  • In the pilot episode of 'Lin Mei Talks’ sees Lin Mei sit down with Dean Forbes to help prove sports, music and the entertainment industry in general are not the only options we have to make it out of the hood or be successful. This brand new series will see Lin shine a light on successful people who come from humble beginnings but found their success outside of the entertainment industry.
    From very humble beginnings, growing up in both Peckham and Lewisham; Dean Forbes was born to a disabled mother and an absent father. Living in hostels with his single mother and two brothers, twice - due to homelessness, Dean has now amassed a net worth said to be approximately £40M+, with a watch collection worth over £2M. The Powerlist 2021 entrepreneur breaks stereotypes of having to obtain wealth via the entertainment industry and starting his own business... Find out how he became a millionaire at 27 from working for other companies.
    As advertised during the episode, Dean Forbes is offering mentorship opportunities for future leaders and will take up an advisory role in one small business and also allow one person to shadow him to gain an insight into what it takes to be successful in his world. To apply for this opportunity, write a couple of paragraphs explaining why and how you think this could benefit you and your business, and submit it to Lin at info@linmeitalks.com

    Not 💩 on working a 9-5 but the moral of this story is that he became a millionaire from ownership, not working a 9-5. He would've only been a "thousandaire" (nothing wrong with that) if he didn't have some share of the businesses he worked at. Also having expertise and skills that are in high demand play a massive part.

    • @tomtomsatnavi
      @tomtomsatnavi 3 роки тому +3

      He still works a 9-5 though. He leveraged his expertise and they gave him shares.

    • @bupss7553
      @bupss7553 3 роки тому +1

      @@tomtomsatnavi 6:30 - 8:40 he explains that he made millions from ownership.
      Granted he isn't a footballer or an entertainer etc but the fact is, he is a multi-millionaire from corporate ownership, by being an owner-operator not "just from being a CEO" or solely from his salary for that role (his "9-5"). The point is ownership.

      @@bupss7553 you’re right. I’d love to see a part 2 where he explains how he approached those conversations about getting shares instead of a pay rise etc - it’s a difficult conversation to have negotiating wages when you’re already on a salary and a lot of people find it intimidating or don’t know their worth within a company. He must have some gems.

    • @bupss7553
      @bupss7553 3 роки тому +6

      @@DJLioness He mentioned that he negotiates with failing businesses before working with them. You get to know your worth with experience and by having proven track record, concrete results and good relationships.
      If you have something to offer that is valuable to someone or their business and they desperately need the skills or knowledge that you have, they will pay for it one way or another (salary, shares).
      Make yourself indispensable, even if you may have to sacrifice time or money in the first instance so that you can gain experience and provide an immense amount of value.
      In the corporate world and generally in life we have to serve before we can lead.

Questions were surface level and unprofessional conduct asking about his watch collections and forcing the 40 mill net worth he clearly wasn’t willing to verify publicly.

I did notice the interviewer should have been more mature though, she didn’t truly understand and take in a lot of the things he was speaking of. Just some positive feedback but I believe he should have been interviewed by a more mature person and someone who is on his level emotionally and intellectually.

      Thank you for your feedback. I have interviewed Dean a few times for various platforms and when it was done for a corporate platform - the younger demographic found it too technical, long and a little too in depth, so with this, I was a little different and it was received better, by the target audience. Again , appreciate your feedback
