As I've just been away from home for nearly three weeks I took the opportunity to make and film a couple of projects while on the road. It was a last minute decision which left me without my camera, microphone or any lighting. I decided to manage and shot the projects on my phone. I'm not quite sure what to make of it but I will be getting back to normal now I'm back home and using my real camera.
Making a brass whistle has been on my list for a while and as I needed a small and fun project while staying at Corin's, I thought this would work well.
As always I'm happy to answer any questions.

100db is the standard description of a symphony orchestra playing forte or a really noisy home power tool.
The warble helps other people locate the source of the sound. A rattling sound is much easier. Pure tones are difficult to place because the echo is the same note as the source. Your mind can tell which sound came first without you having to think about it.

Very neat! I'm the world's worst when it comes to soldering and always say I'm going to practice more.... but never do. Maybe a whistle would be a good project....
I've always used Bluing compound on brass and copper. It works wonderfully and if you don't clean the metal really well, I've found that the randomness gives you a very nice "vintage" look to whatever you're making. Basically, all you're doing is speeding up the natural process that would patinate the copper/brass eventually. I'll paint the solution on real haphazardly, with no worry about cleaning the metal, then go over it with fine steel wool to blend things. Makes brand new pieces look a century old.

@@corinkayaker Hope you like it as much as I do. I can't remember the last time I cleaned copper or brass before bluing it. If you want the deep rich blue like on a rifle barrel, you have to polish the metal to a mirror shine and clean it perfectly with alcohol or spirits. But if you're just looking for that vintage patina.... all the oils and grime on the metal just help make the coat uneven like would happen naturally. Then it's just a matter of rubbing down with steel wool. You can add dabs of bluing here and there, wiping it away with the wool and then adding more, just to tweak it how you like. Next thing you know, you're running around the house looking for more copper and brass bits you can tarnish! 😁

This video came out great, even being removed from your shop and being shot on a phone. I like seeing you do smaller makes that are approachable for more novice makers or folks with smaller toolsets. Big stuff is flash and everyone likes to see it, but I'm thankful for content creator makers like you that make the scope of their projects diverse. Keep it up👌. Also, FUCK YEAH show the knife making class!!

Missed out on the c-clamps when you had those available, but just snagged a kumiko kit! Excited, and I know my daughter will love the stuff I make for her room with it!
