Totally get your comments. It's nothing really new, but I have to say I really love this. Slimane is a massive star in France, they pretty much couldn't pick anyone bigger right now. And as pathetic as it is, I really connect with the lyrics. They portray someone longing after a lost love which is something I've sadly had to go through over the last year and he for me portrays those emotions really well. I really hope he does well. I think it might be my favourite French entry ever :)
You have to know that Slimane is not nobody or an unknow singer as France was used to send to the contest He's really famous even in Belgium we love him ! For me he's one of the best vocalist that the contest can have and I was like "wtf" when they announce his participation bcs like I said France take a big risk to send someone really famous bcs most of french find this contest so... how can I say that... cheesy...
I think France make the song really early for some reasons : 1. Now he can be invited as interval act at junior eurovision in France 2. In 2024 France has to oragnize Olympics Games so maybe they don't have that time to the contest ?

But I don't think it's for those reasons. the French delegation expressed this: "For us, accompanying such an artist to the competition implies thinking about everything we can do with him. We want to prepare Slimane, take him to meet Europe. The singer also hopes to translate his song "into English and other languages because it is important for him that the song is understood." It is clear that releasing this music early aims to make Slimane known throughout Europe, he has already a strong influence in France but also in Belgium and Switzerland.
Unlike La zarra this man is not going to make any mistake on the live show. He can pull it off effortlessly. His control is superb it doesn't matter if the pitch is high or low. His voice is amazing and vulnerable at the same time. He can bring emotions. Perfect!

It took me at least 5 or 6 to actually appreciate it but I don't think that on the evening of Eurovision people will listen to the French song several times. It needs to be talked about straight away. Afterwards he can still arrange aspects if necessary and if the Eurovision community supports it, so much the better.

It s nice to see that France is taking eurovision seriusly and toke a new strategy by sending a huge name. Slimane "i like see" "ane like ameriCAN " won The Voice in 2016 (the first time France send a former The Voice winner) and when he was in a duo he was first of the 2020 album sales rankings in France (fun fact: this duo was with a girl, and he sang her song in the blind participation in the voice back in 2016. Funny to see he chose her song to sing and after they sang together). He also wrote songs for others and 3 of them (the singers not the songs) already had represented France. They talked to him since a long time to maybe represent France (he even sent a song last year but they decided to chose LaZarra) "He has captured the hearts of the French and I believe that we need to feel united in our choices. It is the choice of the obvious and the choice of an artist of generosity, authenticity and who corresponds perfectly to what Eurovision expects,” underlined Alexandra Redde-Amiel, the boss of french delegation.
France returned to the times of Barbara Pravi, who took 2nd place (and even when Patricia Kaas took the top place - she was fabulous in 2009). There was also minimalism, dark, only the artist and a microphone. I'd be surprised if it wasn't in the Top 10, although it doesn't predict success like Barbara's. But I like it very much.

There is a ballad, a dark haired good singer, a metallic shirt (ops!) but the twos are not comparable, likewise comparing this song with La Zarra's one: just because they're both French entries it does make any ranking vote the whole ESC. Compare this with a lot of similar song, and you will understand why so many said it's (sadly) pedestrian. And the 'be objective' is the cherry on the top… bye

But there are different ballads, not everything have to be compared so easily, because Mon Amour (which has a typical French chords progression) is hugely and evidently different from Due Vite.

I understand that the lyrics seem predictable and might be perceived as French bingo for some listeners. But we said that about Loreen’s Tattoo lyrics last year as well, and yet she sold it to the audience like a pro. The same will happen this year for France because Slimane is a divine vocalist and intense performer who can captivate the audience with an ease! This song is still in my Top 5 and we have 29 officially announced entries so far. It’ll be hard for the remaining 8 countries to top that. I expect the biggest competition from Armenia and Georgia who’re hungry for a first win. Australia might also surprise us!

So glad to see you so early guys ! Slimane has been among the most famous french-speaking singers for a few years now. He's known for his talent and he is proving it with this song. Though, as you said, it really looks like things we have already seen before. However I think he can do well in the finale (not like La Zarra).
As a french person, I have really mixed feelings about this one. Slimane is a great singer (won The Voice France btw) and I have no doubt about it in the live performance. But it's so disappointing to have ANOTHER ballad for France, and a basic one. This is exactly why I was so disappointed that Fulenn was so low in 2022, because I just KNEW it was going to comfort the production with not trying something different, stick to old ballads and doing internal selections. I'm not saying it will necessarily do bad, it's too early to say, but I think I'm gonna root for other countries this year

What I will say is that I find it a little frustrating with some of the commentary is that Italy can send male ballad after male ballad for years and generally nobody complains about that (and I should say I love the Italian ballads for the most part) but France send a male ballad and people are moaning about it that they are always sending the same thing which is actually not the case. We were supposed to have a French male ballad in 2020 which didn't happen but previous to that you potentially have to back to 2011 to find a French male ballad. I also don't compare this to Barbara Pravi in 2021 because while both may have slower tempo they are completely different from a stylistic point of view.
Honestly feeling the same. He has a very great discography and an obviously amazing voice. I thought the song is going to be more unique and authentic and I wanted to feel that oof moment. Sadly it didn't happen, the melody is quite basic. Really hope this is growing on me, because he is brilliant.
Top 10 is definitely possible, especially because of the jury! BUT I don’t think the song is catchy enough to win. I don’t know if it’s just me but I forgot about how the song sounded after about 5 minutes 😅 I love ballads and I absolutely loved Voila (my favorite French entry) and Due Vite but also because they were both very catchy and emotional which probably gave them a lot of public votes as well. But who knows? Maybe his performance will touch many people and the other songs are just not better 😂 Right now my prediction would be 8th-14th

They were never a fan of ballads to begin with (especially if it’s a male singing it AND that is not Italian - no hate towards them artists, theyve made Italy’s rep for a reason), so I’m neither shocked nor disappointed with their reactions. Then again, matter of taste I guess. Some are sucker for ballads, some others would prefer to sleep on them, that’s okay. Besides, why the early release? With JESC at Nice around the corner, they're gonna do the promotion of the song at that moment. It will be way better than when the whole Olympic Games fever is gonna take over mid-2024.

France has more success with beat songs than ballads. It's enjoyable but it doesn't stand out for me like Voilà. It will take another month for another country to release their song, probably Albania before Xmas. So all esc fans will be focused on this one only. I also believe it is released for junior Eurovision promotion.

As a french person, I have really mixed feelings about this one. Slimane is a great singer (won The Voice France btw) and I have no doubt about it in the live performance. But it's so disappointing to have ANOTHER ballad for France, and a basic one. This is exactly why I was so disappointed that Fulenn was so low in 2022, because I just KNEW it was going to comfort the production with not trying something different, stick to old ballads and doing internal selections.
I'm not saying it will necessarily do bad, it's too early to say, but I think I'm gonna root for other countries this year

@@janro8677 Well this is what France usually sends. About La Zarra it may not be a ballad, but it's nothing really new for France : classy, dramatic, old school (I liked this song don't get me wrong, I just wasn't surprised).

What I will say is that I find it a little frustrating with some of the commentary is that Italy can send male ballad after male ballad for years and generally nobody complains about that (and I should say I love the Italian ballads for the most part) but France send a male ballad and people are moaning about it that they are always sending the same thing which is actually not the case.
We were supposed to have a French male ballad in 2020 which didn't happen but previous to that you potentially have to back to 2011 to find a French male ballad. I also don't compare this to Barbara Pravi in 2021 because while both may have slower tempo they are completely different from a stylistic point of view.

Honestly feeling the same. He has a very great discography and an obviously amazing voice. I thought the song is going to be more unique and authentic and I wanted to feel that oof moment. Sadly it didn't happen, the melody is quite basic. Really hope this is growing on me, because he is brilliant.

Top 10 is definitely possible, especially because of the jury! BUT I don’t think the song is catchy enough to win. I don’t know if it’s just me but I forgot about how the song sounded after about 5 minutes 😅 I love ballads and I absolutely loved Voila (my favorite French entry) and Due Vite but also because they were both very catchy and emotional which probably gave them a lot of public votes as well. But who knows? Maybe his performance will touch many people and the other songs are just not better 😂 Right now my prediction would be 8th-14th

They were never a fan of ballads to begin with (especially if it’s a male singing it AND that is not Italian - no hate towards them artists, theyve made Italy’s rep for a reason), so I’m neither shocked nor disappointed with their reactions.
Then again, matter of taste I guess. Some are sucker for ballads, some others would prefer to sleep on them, that’s okay. Besides, why the early release? With JESC at Nice around the corner, they're gonna do the promotion of the song at that moment. It will be way better than when the whole Olympic Games fever is gonna take over mid-2024.

France has more success with beat songs than ballads. It's enjoyable but it doesn't stand out for me like Voilà. It will take another month for another country to release their song, probably Albania before Xmas. So all esc fans will be focused on this one only.
