American Beauty is a 1999 American psychological dark comedy-drama film written by Alan Ball and directed by Sam Mendes in his feature directorial debut. Kevin Spacey stars as Lester Burnham, an advertising executive who has a midlife crisis when he becomes infatuated with his teenage daughter's best friend, played by Mena Suvari. Annette Bening stars as Lester's materialistic wife, Carolyn, and Thora Birch plays their insecure daughter, Jane. Wes Bentley, Chris Cooper, and Allison Janney co-star. Academics have described the film as satirizing how beauty and personal satisfaction are perceived by the American middle class; further analysis has focused on the film's explorations of romantic and paternal love, sexuality, materialism and self-liberation.
Bro this is genuinely one of my favourite films ever! Im so glad you gave it a watch!!
its a classic. glad you liked it! i was just a teenager when it came out but I would see it years later maybe 10 years after int he late 2000s. haven't seen it in years. Might have to watch it again.
Glad you liked it, Michael, one of my favourites!
This is truly a film for Adults. Tackles the dichotomy of human nature. Not like these superhero movies that keep adults stuck in a child’s mindset.
When I was a teenager I worked at Hollywood Video and this movie came out and I loved it so much I stole it from work hahaha
🤣🤣🤣
Great movie and nice review Mike. The end always stuck with me when Kevin spacey's character says the last words of the film.
Yeah I was hoping for a different ending for sure.
This movie was a classic.
For a film connoisseur jaded on the mediocrity of current day cinema, I'm very happy to have stumbled upon this channel with your Alien Romulus review. You have the gift of the gab. I'll admit your 'RANT' videos rank amongst my favorite content on UA-cam. They're so funny and work out as good therapy for the cynical and jaded like me 😅
I do like these positive retrospective videos too. I remember watching this movie upon release as a 17 year old. It's probably a very different film to watch in one's 40s though so probably need to revisit this.
Anyway keep up the good work!
They made this movie back in Hollywood before everybody lost their damn minds.
Also, back when people had respect for Kevin Spacey before he was revealed as a trashy human being.
Remember, Kevin Spacey is a brilliant actor but not a good person in real life.
👍
Dude, I can totally relate to that plastic bag 😂
Great film
Question: Which character WOULDN'T be suspected of killing Lester Burnham? EVERYONE has motive. The wife. The daughter. The boyfriend. The daughter's friend. Seems to me the daughter & the boyfriend would be the primary suspects. The boyfriends father......would he confess to protect the boy?
I would say the two male neighbors.
🖖
Good movie kinda crazy w the pedo shit though 😆 especially given spaceys reality...
But he didn't....
