Scales: D mixolydian. D Blues scale or D minor pentatonic also work for a bluesy feel.
D mixolydian has the same notes as G major scale but starting on note D.
The song goes as key of D, for the right feel, in spite of the obvious G major chord progression.

This is the perfect practice track for modes, not only can you play D minor, D mixolydian, D minor blues or a hybrid you can play Gminor, G major. you can go all over the place, depending on the feel you have going inside you.. awesome. thanks for this

It would be nice if you could highlight what chord is being played during the chord progression.
Yes, my newer videos does that 👍
It works like blues. If you consider the chords, the tonality is G major starting on the fifth degree.
But E min penta doesn't work.
B minor penta works on D and C and then E min penta on G (where B minor won't work).
I'm glad I found this backing track to suddenly realize that simple fact. Nothing new I know, but hey there's always a first time for someone.
Oh wait...while I'm writing this I see that the same explanation is actually below the chords on the video, lol. So, indeed I tried D mixolidian and realize (again) that the possible double stop on the G (played like a open D, seven case) can be the start, one octave higher, of the D mixolidian with the index seven case G string.
As a result, I just made a link in my mind between the E minor penta with B minor penta, thanks to D mixo. So now I really understand that the mixo isn't just a scale name but can be a link B minor penta/E minor penta.
I guess I will discover many other useful moves, if you have any please let me know.

Thanks! All of what you say above works and as I describe in the video. The magic happens as you mix these to your taste musically. It will put variation to the solo and improvisation and be a lot of fun. It's a good tip for the improvisation and instrument practising community.
