We had the Doona and absolutely loved it.
The thing is, it isn’t a stroller. It’s a car seat with benefits and should be judged on that basis. We used it for all short trips and places where a big stroller would have been awkward (cafes, restaurants, shops, doctor’s surgery, hospital, etc.). For off-roading we had a proper buggy (mountain buggy urban jungle). The Doona can’t compete with that, but it isn’t supposed to.
The Doona lasted us until our baby was 13 months and he’s just above average weight and height. I don’t understand how babies can outgrow it at 5 months!
We used and abused it, taking it absolutely everywhere, and it was still in great condition when we sold it on. The only trouble we ever had clicking it into the isofix base would be if baby wasn’t actually strapped in tightly enough. That makes the belt parts at the back sag and interfere with the locking mechanism on the isofix. So it’s actually a good job it doesn’t lock in. I wouldn’t be surprised if many of those who complain in the reviews about this problem haven’t realised they’re not strapping their babies in properly.
Anyway, just wanted to add a different perspective. My husband and I still rave about that thing even after we’ve sold it. It was by far and away the best piece of kit we bought for baby.
Thanks for sharing your experience :)
We have one too and love it! Absolutely great for short trips to the store!
Same, it's Jack of all trades and we used it as a car seat, stroller, travel car seat and travel stroller for almost 13 months! Now we had to buy 4 different items to replace it 🤷🏻♂️
I absolutely agree it’s not a stroller. My first born was in it for 15 month, now used by my 9 month old every single day and I could not imagine life without it. I feel so confident going to cafes and narrow aisles between tables at restaurants without feeling “intruding” with a monster stroller. It’s built for the city life!!
You have the best reviews and actually talk about the mechanics and wear of the stroller over time. Thank you!
Thank you! Finally an honest review. I was contemplating getting one but won’t bother. Very much appreciated review ☺️
I love the Doona, we've loved the ability to continue to be spontaneous, even with a baby. The ability to stop the car, pop the baby out and immediately be on the go. Hard to put a price on freedom.
You can do that with any car seat and stroller lol
I think your conclusions are spot-on. I'm part of the small percentage of people who truly benefited from everything that makes the Doona unique. I live in NYC and never needed the base (don't have a car), so I didn't even know there were issues with it. I mainly used it to bring my baby to the train station to go visit my in-laws in the suburbs (where they drive) and in taxis. My tiny 1st percentile baby outgrew it finally at 18 months so we definitely got our money's worth.
The lack of suspension is a big problem, and you definitely need to be careful on any sort of terrain that isn't smooth. A couple of times, I drove the Doona over a particularly bumpy curb, and the wheel wouldn't roll over it, and I almost flipped the Doona with my baby inside. Terrifying.
Similar to you, we definitely were in the group of people who benefited from the Doona. It was particularly great when we had to travel internationally because our carseat and stroller were the same checked piece.
Wow, it's like Strollopedia for stroller 👏👏👏👏
Such a profoundly made video👏, I love how passionate you are about the strollers, which makes up passionate in return)), I was never interested but now with little one on the way and the review videos I got bugaboo donkey 3, and your advice and videos have helped a lot. Thanks 🤗
Thank you 😊
Loved this! Used the Doona on and off the past 4 years through 2 babies but always did wonder about its longevity and actual construction build. Perhaps the doona is more suited for Asian city living than European town living - my girls didn’t outgrow the doona until they were 2YO, and its not like hubby and I are tiny Asians - we’re usually considered tall and large sized amongst our peers. We used the doona in Singapore, Taiwan and Seoul and really had no issues as pavements were reliable and smooth, public transport generally had accessibility options like elevators. But indeed the moment we graduated the girls to 0-10 convertible car seats, their greater comfort was so obvious and immense, that I’m pretty sure the doona was a vanity purchase to help encourage me on the pregnancy journey haha!
In my hours of watching videos about strollers I have learned that parents need to spend more time considering their use case. I think most people dont end up using a stroller very often in the first place. So many people just want the best for no reason and end up spending thousands before they realize they never go on walks, jog, hike, go to the zoo, mall, park, etc (or at least not often enough to justify the price tag). So many people only need a cheap stroller for occasional use. The Doona really seems like a good middle ground/transition for most people. You need a car seat anyway and this can help with the transition before you learn what activities you will be doing with your child, while saving some space at home and likely saving money too. I would highly recommend it to just about anyone!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I agree that knowing how you will use your stroller is key before buying. :)
Good review. A lot of these things a lot of other videos don’t mention. I was on the fence but don’t think this is for me
I have the doona & Joolz aer. This by far were the best investments when you have your baby. I also have the joolz day plus with the maxi cosi option - I barely used it because it is not that easy to travel with. Doona & Joolz aer will go with me as I travel as a single parent to south africa (12 hour flight) I can both take them to the gate and then they check in the doona. The Joolz I can take on board - my baby is 7 months! Doona for the win!!!
For my 3rd kiddo we got the Doona and it has been, hands down, the best baby item we bought. Can't sing its praises enough. It made our lives so much easier. Yeah, we have to buy a new car seat and stroller in a few months but I don't regret buying for the shear fact it made our lives easier.
Very detailed video. I feel more people should see this video before, as well as after buying this carseat. It’s really overused, and also, incorrectly used. I see people using this with newborns on the ferry, and the trip lasts about two hours, and also at the shopping mall, for a prolonged time.
My brother has this carseat, and has told me several times, not to get it. He says that there really aren’t any practical uses for it, because you have to carry it over curbs, and the small bumps everywhere, anyway.
for the same use idea i prefer a nuna pipa and triv stroller. this system accomplishes a lot of the same things while still being able to be used as an actual stroller if desired. but for the ease of getting in and out of the car it’s similarly convenient and lighter to deal with
I feel like some people didn’t installed it properly so it didn’t lock to the base. I had two Doona and bought one for my cousin and all of them locked just fine. However the loose handle bar is true for all three of the doonas. Doona cannot be compare with strollers but instead should be compare with other car seats. No stroller will have a life time for 1+ years but most infant car seats are. For convenience, no other car seat will be able to beat Doona but it is also very expensive so unless you can sell it or you are using it for multiple kids it’s hard to justify the price. But then again if you have multiple kids you might want to get a double stroller/travel system with a car seat. 😅
Nice detailed video. What are your thoughts on the Valco snap duo trend for twins?
Thanks 😊 We don’t have Valco strollers easily available here, unfortunately
After watching your review of the Doona I’m interested to know what you would get as a travel system instead…? We already have an UPPABaby Vista V2 with bassinet and Mesa car seat but are looking for something compact for traveling (getting through airport security, having an easy system in another city, smaller for being in restaurants/cafes, getting a car seat in and out of Ubers/taxis, etc.). Based on our use case, what do you think is better than a Doona? Thank you in advance for your help and we love all your videos and reviews, they are so helpful!!
I thought about buying the Doona, but then used a combination of the Babyzen Yoyo with carseat adapters and the lightweight Maxi Cosi Citi. The Yoyo fits in the footspace under the Carseat, so everything is in one place and ready to go + no lost trunk space. I liked using the combination a lot!
Though I ended up buying a used standard stroller as well, because the suspension of the Yoyo was just not comfortable enough for gravelroads in parks, where we spent alot of time.
I’ve beaten the crap out of my doona with two kids. Off road and even wheeling to the beach. Also bobbling around in airplane cargo.
Nothing has broken. Nothing as loosened. The handle seems sturdy to me and hasn’t malfunctioned.
No one I’ve known had a failure to attach it to the base.
I feel it strolls smoothly
Would like to know your opinion on the leclerc stroller and is it better than the babyzen yoyo 2 ??
Hi, I would be so happy if you answer me 🙈
We are buying strollers and we have few options, I hope you will help me.
Stokke Beat, Cybex Balios S or Talos S Lux, Nuna Triv.. I dont know which one are the best in terms of durability, quality and cosiness.....
P. S. Bugaboo Lynx are option too, if they will be discounted. Because now, they are in our contry very expensive.
What do you think of Peg Perego Agio Z4 as travel system?🤔
I second this comment. I would like to know also.
Is that answer not in this video?

Anyone thinking of getting this should look into the safety ratings of it. Its not a great car seat
Yes! Didn’t even pass safety in Canada.
The Doona actually makes me angry. Like, we know parents are keeping their kids in it far longer than just the two hours considered safe. Also, just looking at it, it doesn’t look like it has the impact protection of Gracos, Nunas, or Chicco-which are generally considered the best car seats.
The Doona didn’t even pass Canadian car seat standards and they aren’t allowed there.
I can’t fathom compromising my child’s safety for my own personal “convenience”.
I predict these will be recalled eventually.
The Doona is for people who are into trendy items that are neither the best or safest options out there .I personally think it’s so ugly and makes people look like hunchbacks when they push it .
