I rarely commented anything on any platforms especially not for any celebrity gossip...but since June/July this year, I started to do it for Xiao Zhan, because he deserves to have everyone who likes him and is against injustice to speak up for him....Like many of you, I only got to know him after "The Untamed" and I only watched this drama at the beginning of June 2020. At that time he had been cyberbullied for quite a few months, so I was able to read/watch from various sources about it. The more I know about it and know about him from his various interviews from before and after 227, the more I empathize XZ and come to like him as a human being instead if just an idol/celebrity. I respect that you are taking a neutral position when you present your two-part clips about XZ and 227, otherwise, you may encounter certain "troubles"...but, I think now that more than half an year has passed and the truths have surfaced, all English speakers who would like to know what happened to XZ need to know that what he experienced in these 6 months was not due to fights amongst fans, it was an organized crime orchestrated to target on him and his fans by sponsored trolls who also gathered anti fans from AO3 and the general public. Regardless which organization hired these trolls, their main purpose is to make XZ disappear from the Entertainment industry and prevent XZ from "blocking" their business so that whoever/whatever they invested in could rise up to the top. The reason why this cyberbullying could last this long, because 1. This is how powerful this organization and trolls are, they have done it to many others, 2. Any normal person would have get defeated after being bullied for such a long time, but opposed to what the trolls/anti fans thought, XZ never gave up. He continued to be positive, continued to do charity works just like how he was before 227. His fans were all influenced by him and started their charity projects as well. During the process, many people (be it in the entertainment industry or people who did not know him before 227) came to realize it was something more than entertainment gossip about a celebrity getting into trouble by his immature fans, it was a cyber crime that has now got the Chinese government's attention. Therefore, he actually attracted more fans, fans who are not young school girls, but mature working women/mothers and even male fans. As trolls/anti fans are unable to defeat XZ after 6 months, they are still trying really hard now, unfortunately. Sorry for such a long comment, but what I am trying to say here is that being neutral is good, but the fact that XZ is being cyberbullied needs to be mentioned. And that this organized crime against him needs to be known (not by you as you are neutral, but by me and other people who care about XZ). I understand that you and some commentators are thinking that how it started does not matter, it's XZ's future as an actor/singer that matters, which I agree partially...I do care about his future career very much as I can't wait to see him in others dramas/variety show and singing programs, but I also care about his reputation...I do not want to see him being associated with this 227 incident as a "troublemaker", someone whose crazy fans caused this incident...NO, he is the VICTIM. XZ already had mature fans. The antis tried to accuse his fans of being immature and teens.... but most of his fans are from 21-40 years old. He even has elderly fans! His rivals, on the other hand, have younger fans which was why they were way more naive and emotional.
The government is so supportive of him. It’s common among celebrities to lay low during any major scandal. It’s also for his own safety and well-being that he lays low because he has received death threats. But his situation is getting better everyday.

No one is able to tell the truth, because there are so many rumors, slanders, libels, attacks online. And then came an incident about a well behaved and loved actor, creating a storm and sweeping public's mind in a total different direction. I cant be too direct, but it can be understood right? It was all done on purpose. Block OOL by creating a scandal during the pandemic especially since OOL is a medical drama. Block Douluo by calling WXY a disqualified idol and then drag in XZ to bring him down further. By orchestrating it so that XZ appeared to be pro-LGBT and his fans as the culprit (which has been proven to be false), the media and platform Weibo actually earned so much money from this whole black PR scheme. His rivals wanted to get him banned and kicked out out of the industry, and they did their best to torture him, his family and fans in every way possible. But they failed- his fans never left him and have only become more united to support him. Let’s see how long the rivals and antis can drag this on. It’s not cheap for them to do this, but we can see the longer the push the cyber violence, the more people support Xiao Zhan.

Honestly after watching untamed i liked xiao zhan and wang yibo's acting and decided to look out for their future projects. At that time i was not really a dedicated fan of xiao zhan but after this ao3 incident i really felt bad for him. He had absolutely no fault in this whole drama but still he was being blamed for it!!!! I thought i really need to support this man who was hard working and talented. The only reason why he told his fans that was because haters accused his fans of manipulating votes which was false. He told them those instructions to protect them and prevent more fake rumours from happening. He’s so popular that he doesn’t actually need any charts or variety shows. I started watching The Untamed about a week ago and just finished episode 50 today. Really enjoyed watching the series, even the sad parts. I haven't watched any Chinese dramas but was originally attracted by Xiao Zhan's photo. As I started watching the drama, I was really impressed with Wang Yibo's performance as well as the strong chemistry between he and Xiao Zhan. I am now a fan of both Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo (and not interested in others). I started looking at outtakes, variety and game shows that they appeared on and will follow their careers.
Carrieann McLeod XZ is doing fine. He’s filming and he already appeared as a guest in an important cdrama for China on cctv. It was a huge honour for XZ to be part of the cast. You have to be given a special invitation to even participate in this work. He is getting better.

However, being one of the few English-speaking analyses that is rather neutral, there are a few misleading statements/opinions you have mentioned and the audience might be misleaded by them. In fact, if I remember correctly, an editor or writer of this government newspaper wrote a March or April article explaining the incident and in a way supporting XZ and this editor was then severely cyberbullied by antis on Weibo leading him to retreat from Weibo for some time. Second, (some might have mentioned this in the comments), the fanfic was posted on Weibo and spread furiously in a time of pandemic; the Weibo user was reported by individuals on Weibo (they did not report LOFTER nor AO3 as notices have been released from these two platforms that XZ is not responsible; there is a notice that I’m not sure confirmed or not that said the Chinese government was already banning these platforms starting January due to the “illegal content”). Third, XZ’s song “Light” is not like other singers’ and idols’ comeback song; his song was released with no promotions, no prior notice, and at 12am when people are sleeping, so I find it a feat that it had high enough sales to earn the Guinness world records. Also, the sales of this song are used for charity, so if it reaches a certain sales, a portion of the sales will be used to provide free lunches, books, etc. for those living in poor rural areas. Fourth, in terms of broadcasting channels, the only two channels that have supported XZ are CCTV and Dongfang (Shanghai). In the end though the Government, these writers, and all did not investigate right. They immediately sought a scape goat and that is sad. To me, even if you live in China with limited freedoms of sort, you need to think clearly. Why would you just blame a celebrity for what they cannot control. Even in America we have crazy fans, well not like fan culture, but they can be crazy..we do not blame the celebrity. I get it though. Thank you for the video, I've never fully understood what it (227) is about, just saw it being mentioned everywhere in connection with Xiao. Now I understand, or at least I think, but as you mentioned in the first part it is difficult to cover the whole story fully hence the so many details. I have to say I am disgusted by all these so called "fans" and I am writing so-called since normal fans who do support an artist would never do such a thing against him and never get involved in such things in the first place. It is already sad it started with a fight between two groups, but the saddest part is that Xiao himself got involved in it without doing anything. I have seen every episode of The Wolf which is what brought me to The Untamed. I have also seen a few episodes of DuoLuo Continent as well as one More series where Xiao Zhan's character stabs the emporers son at the end of the season finale. Until seeing this I had no idea he was involved in a fan scandal like ZhanG ZheHan. I have to say that I'm disgusted with any fan base where the fans can ruin an entertainers career. I just found your channel today and I think your content is very engaged and thoughtful! I also got to know XZ and WYB through untamed, and I wish both well. however, going down the rabbit hole that is the untamed series has left me watching a lot of related content including reading the BL version of the story and coming to know this incident that has affected XZ so deeply. I must say that my preference goes toward the untamed itself as a masterpiece, with superb acting rather than making me a “fan” of either person. That said, they did seem to have such a good brotherly bond during and post untamed (prior to this incident) that I am very curious as to your personal perspective on how this incident affected wyb and xiaozhan’s real or promotional friendship. It shouldn’t matter at this point, but to me, they are two actors with such talent that seemed to form a bond through untamed, yet because of this incident, they will probably never costar or have anything to do with each other in the industry or real life because of the severe backlash from the Chinese govt and due to fan culture negativity. For example I would understand XZ for wanting to stay away from YB because YB was so playful during the untamed filming. Although my second question would be, why do you think YB has not publicly stood up for XZ during this incident instead moving on from it? I rarely commented anything on any platforms especially not for any celebrity gossip...but since June/July this year, I started to do it for Xiao Zhan, because he deserves to have everyone who likes him and is against injustice to speak up for him....Like many of you, I only got to know him after "The Untamed" and I only watched this drama at the beginning of June 2020. At that time he had been cyberbullied for quite a few months, so I was able to read/watch from various sources about it. The more I know about it and know about him from his various interviews from before and after 227, the more I empathize XZ and come to like him as a human being instead if just an idol/celebrity. I respect that you are taking a neutral position when you present your two-part clips about XZ and 227, otherwise, you may encounter certain "troubles"...but, I think now that more than half an year has passed and the truths have surfaced, all English speakers who would like to know what happened to XZ need to know that what he experienced in these 6 months was not due to fights amongst fans, it was an organized crime orchestrated to target on him and his fans by sponsored trolls who also gathered anti fans from AO3 and the general public. Regardless which organization hired these trolls, their main purpose is to make XZ disappear from the Entertainment industry and prevent XZ from "blocking" their business so that whoever/whatever they invested in could rise up to the top. The reason why this cyberbullying could last this long, because 1. This is how powerful this organization and trolls are, they have done it to many others, 2. Any normal person would have get defeated after being bullied for such a long time, but opposed to what the trolls/anti fans thought, XZ never gave up. He continued to be positive, continued to do charity works just like how he was before 227. His fans were all influenced by him and started their charity projects as well. During the process, many people (be it in the entertainment industry or people who did not know him before 227) came to realize it was something more than entertainment gossip about a celebrity getting into trouble by his immature fans, it was a cyber crime that has now got the Chinese government's attention. Therefore, he actually attracted more fans, fans who are not young school girls, but mature working women/mothers and even male fans. I have been following XZ from last august, and also followed him through the incidents. If anyone notice, the AO3 incident happened when Corona virus was at peak and world was against C. And then came an incident about a well behaved and loved actor, creating a storm and sweeping public's mind in a total different direction. I cant be too direct, but it can be understood right? XZ was shinning the brightest at that point..
It was all done on purpose. Block OOL by creating a scandal during the pandemic especially since OOL is a medical drama. Block Douluo by calling WXY a disqualified idol and then drag in XZ to bring him down further. By orchestrating it so that XZ appeared to be pro-LGBT and his fans as the culprit (which has been proven to be false), the media and platform Weibo actually earned so much money from this whole black PR scheme. His rivals wanted to get him banned and kicked out out of the industry, and they did their best to torture him, his family and fans in every way possible. But they failed- his fans never left him and have only become more united to support him. Let’s see how long the rivals and antis can drag this on. I started watching The Untamed about a week ago and just finished episode 50 today. Really enjoyed watching the series, even the sad parts. I haven't watched any Chinese dramas but was originally attracted by Xiao Zhan's photo. As I started watching the drama, I was really impressed with Wang Yibo's performance as well as the strong chemistry between he and Xiao Zhan. I am now a fan of both Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo (and not interested in others). I started looking at outtakes, variety and game shows that they appeared on and will follow their careers.
Wang Yibo's career has really taken off. I think XZ's career is also in recovery mode - fingers crossed. They both deserve success!
Carrieann McLeod XZ is doing fine. He’s filming and he already appeared as a guest in an important cdrama for China on cctv. It was a huge honour for XZ to be part of the cast. You have to be given a special invitation to even participate in this work. He is getting better.
Thank you for this two-part explanation. For American fans of Chinese dramas it is a bit confusing on how the Chinese fandoms work and influence the star/idols' careers. I feel that I have a better understanding and have to say...Wow! I thought American fandoms were unhinged.
Fandoms are double-edged swords; stars/idols need the fans in order to drive a market for their craft but heaven help the poor soul if their fans create a scandal that influences the idol's career. Sounds like Xiao Zhan took the high road and kept his head down to let the furor pass. Good on him.

Hello, first, thank you for providing an English-speaking analysis of this incident to the international audience. However, being one of the few English-speaking analyses that is rather neutral, there are a few misleading statements/opinions you have mentioned and the audience might be misleaded by them. One is the newspaper article that wrote XZ as disqualified artist; this article actually has a disclaimer that the author’s perspective does not reflect the newspaper’s stance so it is certainly not the government’s stance. In fact, if I remember correctly, an editor or writer of this government newspaper wrote a March or April article explaining the incident and in a way supporting XZ and this editor was then severely cyberbullied by antis on Weibo leading him to retreat from Weibo for some time. Second, (some might have mentioned this in the comments), the fanfic was posted on Weibo and spread furiously in a time of pandemic; the Weibo user was reported by individuals on Weibo (they did not report LOFTER nor AO3 as notices have been released from these two platforms that XZ is not responsible; there is a notice that I’m not sure confirmed or not that said the Chinese government was already banning these platforms starting January due to the “illegal content”). Third, XZ’s song “Light” is not like other singers’ and idols’ comeback song; his song was released with no promotions, no prior notice, and at 12am when people are sleeping, so I find it a feat that it had high enough sales to earn the Guinness world records. Also, the sales of this song are used for charity, so if it reaches a certain sales, a portion of the sales will be used to provide free lunches, books, etc. for those living in poor rural areas. I think it’s good that his song sales are also being used for charity and much needed after the hit of the pandemic. Fourth, in terms of broadcasting channels, the only two channels that have supported XZ are CCTV and Dongfang (Shanghai). Ever since the incident occurred, CCTV invited XZ to sing 竹石 once again and has repeatedly supported him on Weibo posts, either by mentioning his dramas or thanking XZ fandom for the massive charity acts during the time of pandemic and time of severe floods. I personally don’t think the government is preventing XZ from appearing on TV; I think it’s the sponsors of variety shows preventing him as money plays a significant role (for example, there is unconfirmed info of XZ being on a Zhejiang reality show in May and then sponsors threatened the producers to delete XZ I think). Adding on to the good news for Aug, his Roseonly live and vlog video of eating Beijing snacks were trending on Twitter worldwide trends (I personally don’t understand the hype of Twitter worldwide trends since I see enough Kpop idols trending on it, but there are Chinese users on Weibo that say being on the worldwide trend is an extraordinary feat for Chinese people).
My long comment here is just to clarify some of the info you have mentioned since it looks like there will not be a Part 3 to this. Thank you again for one of the few neutral English-speaking analysis of this incident. The lawyer who claimed that he’s a disqualified idol is also the legal advisor for one of the members of TFBoys. So just note that a lot of these media and famous people targeting him are indeed supporting his rivals.
He was trending #6 worldwide with Roseonly. It’s really rare that a chinese celebrity can achieve this.
Thank you for making these videos! Getting on the wrong side of the government is probably the worst situation for any Chinese artist. Especially when their case is used as an example for a broader social issue. I really hope XZ bounces back. One thing I'm sure we all agree on is that Nirvana in Fire and The Untamed are two of the most beloved Chinese dramas out there.

In the end though the Government, these writers, and all did not investigate right. They immediately sought a scape goat and that is sad. To me, even if you live in China with limited freedoms of sort, you need to think clearly. Why would you just blame a celebrity for what they cannot control. Even in America we have crazy fans, well not like fan culture, but they can be crazy..we do not blame the celebrity. I get it though. I feel for any entertainment celebrity because of this fan culture. Fans can be good or bad...but to me, they seem to have too much power....

Thank you for the video, I've never fully understood what it (227) is about, just saw it being mentioned everywhere in connection with Xiao. Now I understand, or at least I think, but as you mentioned in the first part it is difficult to cover the whole story fully hence the so many details. I have to say I am disgusted by all these so called "fans" and I am writing so-called since normal fans who do support an artist would never do such a thing against him and never get involved in such things in the first place. It is already sad it started with a fight between two groups, but the saddest part is that Xiao himself got involved in it without doing anything. Why the need to drag him into this? looking up stuff from his past, boycotting his commercial and everything he is related to, just because he was in a fanfiction probably he didn't even know about? there are so many artists all over the world having fanfics written about them, and probably many juicy ones but I don't recall any scandalous stories like this happening to them over one. How dare these "fans" have the decency to dig up stuff about him? nobody has the right to dig in someone's personal life. Do people really think they are entitled to do anything to someone just to justify their actions and get what they want? He barely started his career and has been taken down so early because of some sh@tty fans who can't control themselves. Does he really deserve it? Why? What did he do? He just wants to follow his dreams, be an actor, and clearly he started to be one because of this awsome role of Wei Wuxian. Sadly, as one comment said, a character came to life, his (Wuxian's) story became a real story. He went through deep sh@t for not doing anything. Do these people consider themselves fans? NO, they are not, they are everything but. Yet, they expect him to smile and wave at them wherever he shows up, at airports, hotels, events etc.? They deserve nothing from him, not a single glance. I do feel sorry for those fans who don't get involved in such things and miss him because of all these toxic people. I have seen every episode of The Wolf which is what brought me to The Untamed. I have also seen a few episodes of DuoLuo Continent as well as one More series where Xiao Zhan's character stabs the emporers son at the end of the season finale.
Until seeing this I had no idea he was involved in a fan scandal like ZhanG ZheHan.

I just found your channel today and I think your content is very engaged and thoughtful! I also got to know XZ and WYB through untamed, and I wish both well. however, going down the rabbit hole that is the untamed series has left me watching a lot of related content including reading the BL version of the story and coming to know this incident that has affected XZ so deeply. I must say that my preference goes toward the untamed itself as a masterpiece, with superb acting rather than making me a “fan” of either person. That said, they did seem to have such a good brotherly bond during and post untamed (prior to this incident) that I am very curious as to your personal perspective on how this incident affected wyb and xiaozhan’s real or promotional friendship. It shouldn’t matter at this point, but to me, they are two actors with such talent that seemed to form a bond through untamed, yet because of this incident, they will probably never costar or have anything to do with each other in the industry or real life because of the severe backlash from the Chinese govt and due to fan culture negativity. For example I would understand XZ for wanting to stay away from YB because YB was so playful during the untamed filming. Although my second question would be, why do you think YB has not publicly stood up for XZ during this incident instead moving on from it? It should be noted I hold YB in high regard as well (ive watched that video and liked it as well!) however I think they displayed a good friendship and now it’s as if they’re strangers? Or do you think there’s another angle to the story? I am just asking for another person’s personal opinion I guess- so yes pls reply to me! it seems such a shame that they don’t or “cant” acknowledge each other’s existence anymore, publicly at least. I guess only time will tell and they themselves know T.T.

Xaio Zhan is a great actor. It is ineminantly portrayed in Untamed.. fans are such dumb sometimes to just see how much hardworking and dedication is needed.. how much sacrificing and times are needed to be who they are now.. After Chen Qingling( the untamed), his excellence was seen by more and more people, so his competitors used various slander methods to discredit him in order to grab resources and restrict his development. He is using legal means to defend his rights.
Sherry actually his fan did not report the fanfic. His fans only reported the Weibo user to Weibo. His fans got framed.

Dear editor, I think you got all wrong in this Xiao Zhan case. His case is not as simple as you reported. It was all professionally choreographed by someone inside the Chinese Entrainment industry. And it has nothing to do with the Chinese Government blocking his shows. In fact，the government agencies are helping him on his comeback. It's someone powerful in the Chinese Entrainment industry that is blocking his shows.

Anu .m he didn’t do anything. His only “crime” was being too popular. His rivals were jealous of him. They wanted to destroy and kill him. But his own life history is too clean so they set up his fans and framed them to bring him down. When the media, social media platforms and major conglomerates/agencies are against you, this is what happens.

It's more than that. This is all based on jealousy. His rapid success and rise to superstardom angered celebrities, conglomerates, and essentially the whole industry. He basically gave c-ent a whiplash and they could not accept that someone who was not from their background could be at the top. His rivals wanted everything he had and were determined to ruin and push him out of the industry in every way possible. They were trying to kill him.
