    this song hits extra hard if you've ever had depression or insecurity and anxiety.. I haven't had clinical depression but a habit of mine evolved into a depressed state of melancholy and anxiety and i used to have ptsd but thankfully thats gone. I've always been melancholic and mark has portrayed that better than everyone, especially since I've never really had any friends

      @@radschliski1143 I don't think that's true, though the subject matter is devastating, but the tone is incredibly peaceful.
      In fact, if you internalise the ideas here you can actually find a way to reach what Buddhist call inner peace:
      You must let go of everything that attaches you to this world, everything you hold dear - all the souvenirs you've made
      You must accept the universe is out of your control and always changing - there will come a time gigantic waves will crush the junk that you have saved
      You must accept that you are part of the universe, you came from it and will return one day - lay down, and let the insects do their thing
      I understand this seems like a depressing outlook but, once you understand this is the only outlook that will give you true peace and freedom, it will be enlightening.

    I opened my eyes
    And watched the sunshine
    It had been out all night
    To relax and unwind
    There will come a time gigantic
    Waves will crush the junk that I have saved
    When the moon explodes or floats away
    I'll lose the souvenirs I made
    La la la
    I lay down on the grass
    And let the insects do their thing
    She covered me with wings and
    Held my head and said 'poor thing'
    There will come a time gigantic
    Waves will crush the junk that I have saved
    When the moon explodes or floats away
    I'll lose the souvenirs I made
    La la la

    the world lost a great songwriter

    • @chazk7530
      @chazk7530 3 роки тому +4

      True but it also lost a producer. There are very few artists that make every sound they put out and mark was one of them. There's a reason that he is worshipped by producers like dangermouse and thom Yorke, and that's because he had a deftness in how he created sounds that was inimitable. Honestly sparklehorse is a text book on how to mix a record.

    • @JuneClaret
      @JuneClaret 7 років тому +5

      :'( agreed. nothing really compares. it's strange, with other artists I've liked...I can genuinely say it was just my opinion and particular taste, and it wasn't important for other people to like them. But I feel like if you don't like this, your taste hasn't quite lifted off and landed on the venusian surface of actual heartfeltness. You haven't really suffered...

    • @kellmano1

      @@JuneClaret I'll tell you something very strange. I don't know a single person in real life who likes Sparklehorse other than me. I am quite obsessive about it though in honesty.
      I could say the same about Cormac Macarthy on both counts. Wonder if the two things are linked.

    • @JuneClaret
      @JuneClaret 4 роки тому +3

      @@kellmano1 I know one person who is quite obsessed with him as well. There is still something so deeply personal about Mark's work that makes me experience this sense of, "No one else understands..."
      It really does feel that way :(
      Perhaps we're just in the demographic of people he was singing to. I found out recently that my grandfather's side of the family is from the south...
      You'd think the beauty would speak to everyone but it doesn't for some reason.

      @@kellmano1 I'M GONNA TELL YOU SOMETHING VERY STRANGE:
      I am reading the books of Cormac McCarthy while studying the lyrics of Sparklehorse to write about it for a personal project because I found a connection between both artist.
      Maybe the violence and nostalgia of McCarthy's novels and Mark's lyrics. Maybe the imagery of horses running thru the fields, the reminiscences of places that we've left, that yellow aura of the south of USA that is painted in both works...
      I don't know...
      I'm surprised that you mentioned those artists too
      Sorry for my English. I'm from México.
