I had a really deep bout of depression when I was 20. According to the iPod I had then, I listened to this song 60 times in just about 2 months. It's still hard for me to listen to this song without crying.
@@beemelonhead1 i prob listened to it that many times per week making that daily trip to baltimore in the early 2000s. You know, researching that HBO show the Wire. Lol
this song hits extra hard if you've ever had depression or insecurity and anxiety.. I haven't had clinical depression but a habit of mine evolved into a depressed state of melancholy and anxiety and i used to have ptsd but thankfully thats gone. I've always been melancholic and mark has portrayed that better than everyone, especially since I've never really had any friends
@@radschliski1143 I don't think that's true, though the subject matter is devastating, but the tone is incredibly peaceful. In fact, if you internalise the ideas here you can actually find a way to reach what Buddhist call inner peace: You must let go of everything that attaches you to this world, everything you hold dear - all the souvenirs you've made You must accept the universe is out of your control and always changing - there will come a time gigantic waves will crush the junk that you have saved You must accept that you are part of the universe, you came from it and will return one day - lay down, and let the insects do their thing I understand this seems like a depressing outlook but, once you understand this is the only outlook that will give you true peace and freedom, it will be enlightening.

Just heartbreaking but so beautiful at the same time. The music is so happy but the lyrics really expresses the melancholy and pessimism mark felt inside. RIP a great musician and human being

I saw Mark perform in Manchester during one of his brief jaunts outside of his cabin and the thing I remember most is the way he stored his cigarette in the machine heads of his guitar between tokes.
I wanna die in simulated sunshine with just the right amount of simulated serotonin The most love I've ever known With all of my friends And the universe and all of its happenings I'll play one final time And then slip off forever Into sunshine and love forever I'll be back to be your guide and your friend But I'm never going to play again
True but it also lost a producer. There are very few artists that make every sound they put out and mark was one of them. There's a reason that he is worshipped by producers like dangermouse and thom Yorke, and that's because he had a deftness in how he created sounds that was inimitable. Honestly sparklehorse is a text book on how to mix a record.
:'( agreed. nothing really compares. it's strange, with other artists I've liked...I can genuinely say it was just my opinion and particular taste, and it wasn't important for other people to like them. But I feel like if you don't like this, your taste hasn't quite lifted off and landed on the venusian surface of actual heartfeltness. You haven't really suffered...
@@JuneClaret I'll tell you something very strange. I don't know a single person in real life who likes Sparklehorse other than me. I am quite obsessive about it though in honesty. I could say the same about Cormac Macarthy on both counts. Wonder if the two things are linked.
@@kellmano1 I know one person who is quite obsessed with him as well. There is still something so deeply personal about Mark's work that makes me experience this sense of, "No one else understands..." It really does feel that way :( Perhaps we're just in the demographic of people he was singing to. I found out recently that my grandfather's side of the family is from the south... You'd think the beauty would speak to everyone but it doesn't for some reason.
@@kellmano1 I'M GONNA TELL YOU SOMETHING VERY STRANGE: I am reading the books of Cormac McCarthy while studying the lyrics of Sparklehorse to write about it for a personal project because I found a connection between both artist. Maybe the violence and nostalgia of McCarthy's novels and Mark's lyrics. Maybe the imagery of horses running thru the fields, the reminiscences of places that we've left, that yellow aura of the south of USA that is painted in both works... I don't know... I'm surprised that you mentioned those artists too Sorry for my English. I'm from México.

Still miss you mark. Thank you for all the good works. It is indeed a sad and beautiful world.
He's still making music to the cosmic nature and all beings. Thank you for harmony and love.
The warm colours of the sunshine mixed with the tone of his voice... it feels like a cosy blanket or long hug from a good friend
Thanks...

I’ve just discovered this band as I was listening to the thom yorke -mark cover off wish you were here. Some beautiful music.
Mark is a rare and special musical and artistic talent. Really genius. The more you listen, the more you appreciate. He did it all. Thank you Mark...
Beautiful, can feel what Mark is feeling, depression is a very difficult disease, have it myself and fight constantly with it, RIP great one🥰🙏
I feel this is one of the best songs ever composed. Love the feel, tenderness and how delicate the creative is.
No need for me to commment now. Nailed it.

Held my head and said 'poor thing'
