    I’m new to knife making and always want to try a folder at some point. Great video giving us a view into your process. Thanks!

      Thank you! Give it a go! A folder may seem intimidating at first but the simpler ones are not too hard to make at all. Start with a friction folder to get the hang of things. After that, progressing to a slipjoint won't seem like a too big of a step.

      @ Thanks! My cause for nervousness is the design. Trying to find a good template to follow so I can build off of it for future projects is tough.

    That is a great looking knife! Would love to see more about fitting up the inside components. Like tips for getting the blade, the spring/kicker, and the pivot points all worked out.

      That's probably the most challenging part of the build! I don't really show it that much in the video, although my friend Matt made two great videos about it on his channel.
      Here they are: ua-cam.com/video/QW1d-lBdliI/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/43gUvGPm-TU/v-deo.html
      Here's another great video on the subject: ua-cam.com/video/0OumkD6Uhos/v-deo.html

    Great project! I advise not tempering above 300°C, it is detrimental to steel properties (except for HSS steels)

    awesome knife! can you tell me what was that red adhesive you used to stick the blade down for handsanding? And what was that pink tapered reamer you used to taper the holes for peening? looks like a better way than I do it so Id love to know! thanks from another Theodore

    • @teodorstiernholm
      @teodorstiernholm  Рік тому +1

      Thank you Theodore! Well, the red adhesive you see is just hot glue that I've melted. I use it a lot when I'm not able to use a clamp. The pink reamer you saw me use was just a ceramic dremel burr. You can find them in all different sizes for next to nothing at Amazon or your local hardware store.

    My hobby had been refurbishing old pocketknives i.e., replacing the scales (mostly Derlin) with hardwood that I harvest from my yard. The trees that grow in my yard are Elm, Cherry, Apple, Wild Plum, Manchurian Apricot (the trees died but I harvested the wood) and Black walnut. Only problem is that I seem to have lost interest in refurbishing.

    What does the tin foil do or what’s it used for?

    • @teodorstiernholm
      @teodorstiernholm  Рік тому +2

      It's a stainless steel foil that is wrapped around the blade to create an airtight seal. This is so that the steel won't oxidize at the high temperature that it's heat treated at.

    • @tylerkennedy2797
      @tylerkennedy2797 Рік тому +1

      Oh okay thank you . Can you get it at any store or online?

    • @teodorstiernholm
      @teodorstiernholm  Рік тому +1

      @@tylerkennedy2797 It's not something you get at your local hardware store, although most knife making supplies retailers online offer it. Here's two good alternatives: popsknife.supplies/products/309-stainless-heat-treat-foil?_pos=1&_sid=9bca9864b&_ss=r
