12 Volt Outlet Install

Although our Embassy Dolphin came with double USB outlets on both the Driver and Passenger sides, powered by the battery so as to avoid needing the inverter, we needed a true 12 Volt cigarette lighter style outlet. So, that’s today’s project.

Kristie, thanks for watching! As long as your van is still in Elkhart being prepped for you, it might be worth a call to ask to put a cigarette lighter style outlet in for you. That would save you the trouble of doing it yourself.

Glad you found it helpful! Keep in mind that for things like a SUP that you are inflating during the day, the Ford Transit chassis has 2 cigarette lighter outlets that operate when the engine is running.

Thank you! I was going to use a portable power station/generator for my CPAP or buy a portable battery made for CPAP machines. VA may give me different CPAP machine when I retire from the Army!

It’s not that big a deal to have to run the inverter at night to use the regulator 110v plug, but I’ll be glad to be able to leave it off now, especially in summer because it generates a little heat. Thanks for watching!

Do you know the maximum watts that can be accommodated through the 12 volt cigarette lighter style outlet?

It’s a 10 amp circuit, so 12 volts X 10 amp = 120 Watts. Thanks for watching.
