Really well done. Capturing all the angles and nailing down key points of reference; very useful for seeing how things fit together on that important stretch of coastline.
I live in the area. Pacifica to Big Sur..... every single year there's a landslide or crater or "chunks falling off". I don't know why everyone acts like it's a surprise. It'll happen next winter again. We live on fault lines and erosion is natural.
I was happy to surf the slot 4 yrs ago when I was in Cali for work, and I’m hoping for you guys that a good wave forms in that spot. To me it looked like the cliff is even more unstable than before and a lot more will fall into the water. Would you say this is true, and will anything be done to stabilize it ?
Yes definitely true. There is a larger crack that looks like it could go. It would be double/triple the size of the previous. No stabilization is in the works. Not sure if there ever will be. There is a large rock called “table rock” or “grom rock” whatever you wanna call it that absolutely fell from the cliff decades/centuries ago and is now an inside takeoff/ turn section/ barrel/ air, a pivotal structure to the wave. So I imagine the same will happen with the other rocks. Not in our lifetime though.
I used to surf it back in '80 to about '84, it seemed to barrel more back then compared to when i see it nowadays, both off the first peak area and inside what we would call the slot wave. Back then the whole Sewer Peak and Rockview area were very different also as i remember
Embarked on a surf adventure at Steamers on a day only a mother could love. Instantly, I became the main attraction in a surf comedy, featuring local enthusiasts keen on giving me a "warm" welcome. Think of me as the underdog in a sitcom, dodging not just waves but unsolicited "tips" from a Santa Cruz welcoming committee. Managed to catch a few waves while playing dodgeball with their egos. As I made my graceful exit, I couldn't help but wish them a joyous journey north, where the waters might just cool their spirits. Ah, community spirit at its finest! Total Assholes!
Oh, imagine if the roads could talk about the 70s and 80s! They'd probably spill the tea on Collier and his crew faster than a disco ball spins on a Saturday night. Picture this: the streets buzzing with tales of MELODRAMA so thick, you could cut it with a vinyl record. "There they go again," the crosswalks would whisper, as Collier and the gang strutted by, leaving a trail of glitter and guitar riffs in their wake. Do you "Remember the time they tried to start a band with only kazoos and tambourines?" Oh, what stories we'd hear if those choads could talk! Thanks for the nudge down memory lane, @MrIsomer. It's a hoot to think about the legends and their legacies, through the eyes (or would it be lanes?) ES@@MrIsomer
This wave never looked verygood to begin with. Especially when its small. Seaweed, cold , soft, sharky , localized nightmare. Hope it doesnt make it worse for the local surfers who live there.
Nice video. Thanks for the heads up. I was not aware😅 It might make better sessions now that you can't have five dudes shoulder to shoulder against the wall... 🌊 It's still the same... Mushburger wave, requiring you stay deep in the pocket 😜 until its 10 ft and a straight shot to a bottom turn before a fat shoulder... Definitely overcrowded and kind of overrated😂 the lane
Nice vid, but I must disagree with your opinions about Westcliff. Hardening the coastline is a BAD idea and the USA has plenty of examples of how hardening the coast against the sea ALWAYS causes more problems up or downcoast from the hardening check the science behind this as there is plenty of it. Sea Level rise is real and happening before our eyes.
Yeah, there’s been basically zero sea level rise. Every prediction has been not just hilariously wrong, but how wrong all the predictions were and the coordinated fear mongering and shaming for anyone who didn’t agree, demonstrates both the group think, and that these agendas were never based in science. It’s social engineering. Manipulation. Get enough experts to say it’s ‘science’, other experts have to fall in line. Then all the other drones in society will do the rest of the work aggressively defending ‘the science’, that ‘all the experts agree on’, so what kind of a terrible person are you to disagree with it. You’re trying to destroy the planet if you disagree. Etc etc. anxiety and fear. Then government and businesses can pass laws.
@@kentconti9491 Sea level in the western Pacific Ocean has been increasing at a rate 2-3 times the global average, resulting in almost 0.3 meters of net rise since 1990
The more “rip rap” you put along the eroding cliffs, the faster cliffs unprotected will fall apart. Eventually West Cliff will look like Santa Monica Beach, one big coastal wall of crappy looking big boulders. Someday, kids will be asking how did Natural Bridges get its name. Leave the damn cliffs alone! Sorry, but if you were too stupid to buy property right along the cliffs, too bad! And where necessary, close West Cliff altogether!
Same thing in Pacifica and SF. Pacifica keeps breaking off into the water where the fault line is. In SF the Great Highway used to have a large beach there maybe 5-10 years back. Now the water has come up to the roadway and the road is closed.

Thank you!
Nice! been here in SC since 1964 That point has changed a lot. Great vid. Thanks for your time.
It's called erosion, go with the flow...

Thanks for giving us a view from the outside,🤘🏼
Unique perspective of the Slot. When not surfing, I could sit up top and watch "the boys" surf all day long. BTW, "the boys" are not that bad.
Its changed big time since the seventies,
I couldn’t even imagine. It must have been so different.

I’ve heard that used to barrel alot more back in the day too. Yeah sewers and rockview must of be whole worlds away in the 80’s compared to now.

Ah man love the story telling effort of your comment. People can be brutal. Hope you still got a couple fun ones.
You should've been there in the 70's and 80's. Collier and the boys would've shown you some true melodrama...

cool video 🌊🌊🌊
I live in SoCal but I'm signing the petition 😎
Will you’re a legend 🙌 thank you :)
What happened to the Lighthouse Museum?
Nothing, it’s still there
Cool thanks!
Didn't see it in the video
howd you catch it with only 10 guys
Haha years of trial and error.
6:38 .... used to be my fave spot .... up ... n--th... called Fo-- M---.

Rippin on that asym. When’s best time to surf it with less crowd?
Thank you 🙏 tough to say.. it’s really hit or miss out there. It’s such a main spot.
Raised in Newport. Imagine cliffs being eroded from the ocean. Global warming ahhhhhhhhhhhh 🙃😵💫🥺🤔
Not global warming
How would warming cause more erosion? That's ridiculous!
And it will happen again! Look at the cracks in the Stone. Big whoopie!
Nice video. Thanks for the heads up. I was not aware😅

😂 Don't turn westcliff drive into eastcliff drive...
It was just a normal winter as far as precipitation.
The Ocean doesn’t care if you want to keep it a two lane. It’s coming for your shiz 🌊🌖
The fuck was that fin set up/placement????
Quad fin on the heels twin fin on the toes 🤙
This will sound like an amateur question but is that board strictly for right handers????
No, it goes both ways. It’s designed for the feet. Toes and heels have different range of motion/pressure etc.

Sea level rise ? , erosion is what you see happening
Bamboo.adter is crazy Loco with those numbers, more like less than an inch in 100years

Keep it 2 way!!!
YES!!!
I surfed for 40 years.
Thank God I'm older now and can't do it because there's too many a-holes
I can't see wave getting better.
Makes you wish you were a trout …smacks you so hard only two dudes paddle out.
Sublime 🤙
That’s what you get for letting Greg Urada surf out there.
Wow. No more wall tag.
No more wall tag.
OK I'm stupid - I clicked on the video wondering who's Cliff Fell 8-P
hoist rock fragments out of the ocean with a crane? There are crane operating youtubers who are known to do those jobs for free.
My first thought as well. Problem is the cliff will erode even faster if debris is removed.
@@johna1160 flex seal and steel i beams welded to hold the cliff together works wonders, or so ive been told
For a Cali surfer you rip!
I must have watched a different video 😂
Californians discovering mother nature and making vids about it
Haha straight up 😂 we live in California for a reason… last two winters were insane.
The more “rip rap” you put along the eroding cliffs, the faster cliffs unprotected will fall apart. Epic video bro! That’s the best argument for keeping west cliff 2 way. Couldn’t agree more. Also those were some sick turns. 🪣 🪣 🪣
100% all those Neighborhoods would have so many more cars and mission… if mission wasn’t bad enough. Haha thank you for filming 🙏🙏🙏
