Mystical Whale Lake Skating Tour

Last Skate of 2024. On Dec 29, 2024 Joel Hornborg, Silas Magee Hanavan and I went on a search for good ice and we found one of the only skate-able lakes in the province on Whale lake. We were very hopeful but sceptical of finding good ice but our research paid off. After a kilometre kick sled through the woods then another couple of K over variable rough ice we were finally able to ditch the sleds and don our skates for an amazing 37 K tour in truly magical and mystical conditions. Light drizzle and fog only heightened the surreal experience of weaving through the myriad rock and ice features surrounded by windblown Pine trees. What a way to end the year with great company on one of the most beautiful lakes in the province!
