  • In this video I go over the things I dislike and like about the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401, and whether it is a bike I would recommend to others.

    Better looking than the 390 ADV, old men have issues with those "bug-eye" headlights. A 40hp Himalayan would be dope!

    Well said. Great, light and capable little bike. I agree with quickshifter being iffy, the display buttons hard to work, the gas info being totally off. The tires are very good, and will do close to 9k, and very good on the road and do good on off-road. The suspension can be hard but it can be set up for soft for off road and it changes the bikes completely. There is a known issue amongst owners about the bike shutting off in mid ride, not confirmed by manufacturer, and apparently caused by too rich fueling. Can be fixed with a module and better air filter, which, apparently improve performance. The bike is great fun to ride and with all its corks still an amazing value, especially if you get it one or 2 yr old. Suspension and clearance of 14cm is not much, but I rode mine through low to mid off roading and had no issue nor did I bottom out. On even gravel roads it is blast to run and very composed. The gearing is little different. First gear is litte twichy and short, 6th gear is for cruising. Lack of wind protection makes it bit uncomfortable at above 110kmh speeds and I hear it will go as fast as 160kmh. I took it on highway and it handles great and has plenty of power to cruise and pass cars. SuperMoto mode, or ABS off feature is good and should be used on any off road setting. The sum of it's parts is a great package. It is little on the tall side being close to 33" seat and the riding position is of a naked bike. There are inexpensive engine guards that would add to its off road protection, and bar riser that would make it more of a scrambler. With 335lbs wet and 44hp it is, to me a great value and lot of fun in any situation. I ride liter naked and large ADV bikes and still took this one as it is such well built bike with premium features, rides great, looks great, and price is less than what the competitors like Honda SCL500 or Triumph Scrambler 400 do, to be the two direct competitors, both more money, less power, lesser components and lot heavier. Power to weight ratio on this bike give it best power and performance in class. Mine does not have read mud guard and has just a pipe extender which gives it a nice growling sound proper for scramblers. Overall, even with all the small things the bike has going against, I am extremely happy with it and recommend.

    6.7k on mine and loving it. Great bike for twisty asphalt, but the ground clearance is def a bummer. Limits its aggressiveness in turns. Not really an off road machine imo. Done tons of fire roads no problem, but better suited for asphalt.
    Review spot on with all the points. Tire choices are almost non existent. Too bad Shinko 705’s will NOT fit rear.

    Spot-on!! Had my 2018 for 2 and a half years now and 5000 miles and you’ve described it very well. Great little bike and very hard to find anything with the same versatility and character for the money. You’re right about 701 - intriguing prospect but not nearly so pretty

    I bought a 5 gallon gas can and would fill up almost every other weekend or more often, depending on how much I ride. Then I have the fuel available and I can fill up more often, without caring for how much I can fill now. It made it more bearable.

      How are you carrying the can? Do you strap it at the back or retrofit carrier on the bike?

    I was actually goin´ for the Fantic Caballero 500 when I came across the Husky 401. Was kinda love at first sight. THE bang for the money, and yess, the design has the spirit of classic bikes, but the modern adaption is very appealing! And I think the same about the look of the 701 as you do. The big sister is not much heavier, has almost double the power and is all in all an absolutely unique, outstanding bike!! But, when I look at the little sister, when I´m thinking about my budget, and the way I will use it most, it´s the little one I will go for....🤷‍♂

    I like the 401 and it makes good power for a single 4stroke. I eventually got a the 701 husky Svartpilen. I’m never disappointed! Hopefully the rumors of the the Svartpilen 901 and Vitpilen 901 will be in the cards? But sometimes you know how rumors are.. 😮

    It's crazy how the Vit and Svart are the same bike except for tires, bars, footpeg position and colour I just bought a Vit yesterday and was staring at the Svart the whole time because I think it's hands down the nicer of the two. (I only bought the Vit because it was $6080 all in while the Svart was $6800+ tax) $400 for new tires and $450 for bar conversion I can turn a Vit into a white Svart.

    Would love a compare-contrast between your 390 Adventure and this Blackarrow. Same frame, same engine, etc ... my guess, the story would really revolve around the 145mm versus 200mm ground clearance before skid plates, though less for both after skidplates. The '24 appears to have rectified some of this, listing 180mm from factory. Endless mental debate which to choose: 2nd hand 390 Adventure, last years model (23) Svart with rebate, or the new '24 with unknown delivery dates and potentially many "first batch issues".
    My gut tells me, after watching this video and your "Is it worth modifying the KTM 390 A", that you loved the Svartpilen but saw it's limitations, so you bought the 390 Adventure to cover that. But now with a perhaps less showy middle-ground '24 Svartpilen can handle more. Hmmm.

      I love the look of the Svartpilen, but it is a total luxury having that bike while having the 390ADV. The 390 will do everything that the Svartpilen does and really gives up nothing. The 390 is still an engaging and fun ride on the streets, but is more comfortable and capable than the Svartpilen.
      So only get the Svartpilen if the style is a must have, otherwise get the SW version of the 390. I think you can get those with a big discount right now and you'll have a great bike.

    Anyone have any experience with this vs Honda crf300r?

    • @makmoto0606
      @makmoto0606  Рік тому

      I just got a klx300 and I think they’re night and day. 401 is much nicer on road but obviously 300 is more capable off. So in my opinion it depends where you want to compromise, on or off road.

    • @bjjw
      @bjjw 6 місяців тому

      I have both the Svartpilen and CRF300L. They are different bikes for sure. CRF300 is better off road with more clearance and suspension, although it is dual channel shocks in front and rear is rather soft. CRF is limited on the road where Husky will eat its lunch. The tires on Husky, quicker shifting and higher speed make it more road oriented. I took Husky on same roads as CRF and it goes well, but you got to watch out for deeper dips as it has only 14cm clearance vs around 25cm on CRF. they are different class but cross each other usability on and off road. Tank size and range on both is about 200km dry. If you are more off road, CRF if better, if you ride road and want to get off road moderately, Svart is better. Price wise they are very close. Honda is more reliable of course, but so far I have not had any issue with Husky. Dealer network for Honda is also greater vs Husky.
