The announcer thought it was a "nice gesture" for the team to invite her after she missed the team by one spot in the 400 meter hurdles. However, her performance during her Olympic debut is not charity. She is fierce and gave the team a nice lead. You go, girl!
The announcer was really stating how it was a gesture to even be on the team bit it has nothing to do with how she then performed because it could have been someone else chosen to fill that spot. It's like when Jetta's team beat the 4 by 100 record...Jetta said the third anchor, everybody thought she wasn't the best to put on the team but she ebded up holding her on. She wasn't looking down on her but just stating what happened prior.
Little is a strong runner. Running 400m hurdles gives you a strong finish when you don’t have to jump over hurdles! She deserves to be there with a 49.5 split. They could have coached her better on where to line up. That second leg is the hardest since you are still on a stagger. It’s actually good to take the baton later in the zone to give the faster runner a longer leg, but not too late!
I am literally boohoo crying after watching this race. They were running like they had a testimony inside of them and they refused to go down in defeat. Felt like poetry in motion. I am so proud of them and setting a NEW WORLD RECORD!!!!! Congratulations!!!
I hope Kalyn can get her legs back before the final because we need that intensity but she wobbled when Vernan was hugging her which indicates that she gave it all on that race. Rest up girl! We need you!!!

USA is deep at 400m. Not only was Shamier 4th at trials in 400 hurdles and 9th in 400 flat, Kaylyn, a college freshman at Arkansas, was 4th in the 400 flat. I don't know another country where their times wouldn't have qualified. But USA alternates set relay WR. WPS!
A class move that almost that almost cost them a huge mistake when she was not in the proper zone to receive the baton…. Thankfully they were all pushing hard but that was close!

USA didn't get gold; this was a qualifying heat. They got silver in the final (though the Netherlands did not surpass USA's record time).
