I can't quite put into words how nice it is to see Shrimp enjoy a part of the UK i love.
Oh I love a ferry ride. Thank you for showing this one. We lived near and used a ferry each month for a work trip- it was a wonderful way to “commute”.
Lovely. Therapeutic. America has beautiful sights, too, but separated by great distances. England has it all: mountains, plains, rivers, lakes, towns, villages, woods...all on a pedestrian scale. Thanks much for sharing. (Eva's stamina is quite remarkable!)
The Lake District holds a special place in my heart.
My dad was from Morecambe so we went there a lot as children and my husband comes from Lancaster so when we visit we spend a few days there.
As I now live in Spain it’s great to see these videos
wonderful adventure, thanks for sharing. take care, be well
Eva is having some great adventures! ❤
My dog makes those noises too when french fries are around. 😂
Beautiful area, gorgeous greenery, gnomes! Thanks ❤
10 out of 10, would amble again. And Bowness was a bonus.
What a great trip. I visited lake windermere a long time ago on one of my first holidays abroad over 45 years ago. Loved it
just beautiful
Lovely bit of the country. Love going for walks around there as it's only a little north from where I am
I really really needed this today. I'm living in a large city and parks are nice but I really miss untouched nature
Mosses on decaying concrete are some of the best! Nature's grabbing it back!
Eva looking out at the lake from the boat was great
Saturday morning coffee and a new Shrimp video has become a ritual for me. I look forward to it every weekend after working all week in an office. Very good for my mental health 😀💚
Thanks for sharing your adventure!
Beautiful Ambleside falls, where the peace is deafening.
Have not been to the lakes for 30 years, I remember that walk - brings it all back, thank you.
The transport aircraft at 28m 30sec was an A400 Atlas, the RAF stopped flying C130 Hercules earlier this year. The later 2 fighter aircraft were USAF F15 Eagles.
I was kayaking once on the south end of Windemere and had about 20 or so F15s fly over in very quick succession. While at college and University in the lakes I think I saw just about every plane the RAF flew and a significant amount of US planes. They all do some very impressive low level flying around Windemere and Coniston Water.
@@hamishmills2813 During my time wearing a blue suit I did Windermere a few times at 400ft and 420kts.
Aww That was lovely 😊 My arthritis wouldn’t allow me to roam like you guys do so it was wonderful that I got to have a look about through you.
Love the fern moss.. so pretty!
I agree, people shouldn’t attach those stupid locks to the railing, so dumb. The green and the moist air in this area is so enchanting ❤
That food looked yummy!
Thanks so much for taking us along
Thank you for this….this is one of my favourite places in the world. I was lucky enough to get married here in 2005, but also is the resting place of my late wife 😢.
Keep up the good work Mike, love everything you do.
Thank you for showing the lunch!
I just wanted to take a moment and thank you very much for sharing these little outings with us.
I look up to you very much, and one day...hope to be even a 1/4 as fulfilled as you seem to be. Your drive, and passion for the world around you is inspiring...and it's truly helped me to see, and reassess, what it means to be happy, and whole. I truly hope that, going forward, you will continue to share your interests, hobbies, and journeys with all of us...
So from the bottom of my heart... Thank you, Mike. I'm grateful in a way that words simply cannot express.
Thank you so much for all you do, especially these exploring videos. Now that I have limited mobility, your videos take me to places I can no longer access personally. And, of course, I adore Eva :)
Wow! Loved the stone buildings. I love to imagine the work it took to create those walls, homes and shops. Thank you for that awesome look at time!
This video was lovely. I love the English countryside and villages. Quite different than my area of California. And I think Eva had a fun day as well. Thanks Mike!
Greetings Mr. Shrimp!
I just wanted to thank you for your education! I recently partook in a local Mushroom tour, just to check my knowledge and gain some more. And after two days of pretty intense rain i went out on a hunt! And i came back with a BUNCH of wonderful Shaggy Ink Caps that i just fried in some oil with a bit of flour and they were wonderful!
Thank you very much for spreading around your interests and enthusiasm, so we can overcome our inhibitions and enjoy those too!
I wanted to watch this and fall asleep, but it was much too interesting. Thank you for a beautiful walk. ❤
What a lovely walk in the rain.
Thanks for another great video. I would love when you talk about stopping for a sambo you would show us what you are having. You did it once when you cut back to shrimp cottage and showed the sandwich you had made for the walk. It was great! Anyway thanks for all the content, long may it continue!
The little 'fairy house' was very interesting. Love seeing stuff like that
This entire video is full of gorgeous scenery. This is the sort of thing I'd love to see if I ever visit the UK: old historical places and beautiful nature.
The King has just granted 2 Licenses in Cornwall for gold and silver excavation. Thanks for the Tour, enjoyed it.
That walk really reminded me of the hikes I go on over here in the PNW of the US. So much moss and ferns. The fact that it had just rained heavily also adds to that feeling of familiarity.😂
What an absolutely serene video. I was saving this for a cloudy day to curl up with some tea and it was just an amazing start to my morning. Thank you M + J!
A beautiful place for a walk. The river/water way makes a lovely sound.
Hello Shrimp! If you could arrange it again, I would really love to see another budget food video. I get that you might not be able to do that, but I really enjoy and would like to see more of them (even though I can't replicate it with the prices here in Germany, more budget is needed here).
4:00 it's a gnome's second home. ❤😂 Weekend cottage away from Mrs. Gnome (or Mr. Gnome ) and the gnomettes. Also available to rent. Bring your own towelettes and tiny duvet covers, leave the place as you would hope to find it. ' Waitrose 5 miles away, but if desperate, there's a Tesco 2 miles down the road.' (That last bit is what my brother clocked in a visitor's book😂) Great video as ever. Spirits lifted, and I'm still on the sofa. Thank you so much.
Another thanks from me for these lovely videos; I used to horse ride and walk for miles with my dogs before I got a bad back and knee and couldn't do it anymore; I miss it a lot, but your videos are the next best thing, you are very much appreciated
I had a great holiday here about 5 years ago. Staying in the Stags Head Bowness and walking round the entire lake. Using the ferries to break it up into quadrants.
I've never been to the Lake District, but have a 5 day break booked there for our wedding anniversary early next year, so this has made me look forward to it even more..... thank you so much 😊 Lovely video😊❤.
The walk to the falls was beautiful! And the stonework all around is too.
Spectacular place, lovey place to visit by the looks. Ta
V grateful to you and Jenny for the Ambleside Falls diversion amble. Yes, those padlocks are horribly twee and annoying.
Thank you for these. I live near Ennerdale water and haven't been able to get out recently so seeing these chilled walking videos from one of my favorite UA-camrs has really helped my mental state 😊❤
So interesting! Lots to see. The falls were beautiful. Thank you! ❤❤❤
In Alaska they make fireweed ice cream and it is delish 😊 and when it starts dying, we knew winter was coming 😊
Some of the best nights I've had were in Bowness, Windermere was a regular haunt too when I lived in Cumbris, might I suggest a trip up the Kirstone Pass to the Inn there for a tipple or two on your next visit to Cumbria
What a beautiful place & thanks Atomic shrimp 🦐🤗
Thank you for yet another really interesting video Mike thoroughly enjoyed watching as always.
Brings back memories of my visit to the Lake District, nearly 40 years ago. Evidently, I visited Lake Windermere, Ambleside and Bowness, as well as a few other places.
Unfortunately I have not been able to go back ever since.
28:45 That looked like an A400 'Atlas' rather than a C-130 'Hercules'. Sorry to be pedantic. Love your channel.
I've been to the Lake District many times and never had enough time in Ambleside to visit the waterfalls so thank you for sharing your visit. Maybe next time I'm there might have time to retrace your steps.
The Bridge House in Ambleside has a great history, it was built by the Braithwaite family in the 17th century to store apples from their orchards and access land over the small river. Since then it's been used as a counting house, a tea room, a weaving shop, a cobbler's and at one time, a home to a family of eight! That reminds many of the nursery rhyme of 'the old lady that lived in a shoe'.
The lichen you spotted at 22:14 is common here in Lapland, we have a lot of it and it even grows through our lawns.
We visited the Lakes about 8 years ago, we had 2 weeks and it only rained 1 day, but it was torrential and curtailed our visit to Ambleside unfortunately.
Will there be any mushroom foraging videos coming up? I think it'd be lovely to see you explore your new environment! Foraging videos are my favourite they calm me down haha, loved this as well shrimp!
Beautiful place, thanks!
Thank you for the lovely journey! We really enjoyed this video. ❤
Loved seeing the falls and the lake. Thank you
Thank you for taking us along on your travels to the Lake District. It was interesting to see the original Bowness, I currently live in the New Bowness West (sic), in Alberta and just across the provincial border to the west is Lake Windermere (actually called Lake Windermere, now known to me as Lake Winder Lake and Town). The terrain is not dissimilar to Cumbria just drier.
The fern moss incident reminded me of going to America last year and seeing vultures flying that looked like turkeys on the ground. We ID'd them as...Turkey Vultures.
On my very long walks I know the exact halfway point - "the rain point." BTW they should get that coin log to a local museum and go through them before someone is tempted to "mine" them all for themselves. Much as I don't care for the practice (like the "love locks") it would make an interesting bit of history. And removing the log means people won't be encouraged to start on a new tree.
Anyway, thanks for letting us join you three on another neat walking tour.
I’ve been to the Lakes District when I was 12 and I’m trying to remember if we walked around here! (Am from Australia). Just started the video but it’s a lovely watch so far. Thank you for posting! It’s very relaxing.
Beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing your travels 🤩
thank you for sharing your holiday with us, some of those areas are not accessible to me personally due to disability, so it's nice to get to come along and see what I'm missing
I wish I could visit that fern-moss place. It is too dry where I am for these plants to ever grow, but I really like them.
Thank you for this. As a 60 year old aussie I'll never get to see these locations, Beutiful greenery and fauna to see. Thanks for taking us all along with you for this walk. Cheers...
@@godfreypoon5148 As someone who just passed that milestone, I agree. I plan to keep traveling for many years to come.
I don’t know your situation so am not trying to assume or anything! But at 60 you can absolutely travel! The UK is a lovely place to visit with the older buildings and everything. Airfares are kinda expensive at the moment to over there so it’s good to plan in advance 😊
Lovely!
So beautiful
Ok spooky universe, you win. Today, I was walking our usual dog route and we always like popping the fat pods on Himalayan Balsam as it's just so much fun. And I thought to myself "I wonder if Mr Shrimp will or has ever talked about this plant and it's popping pods...". And then less than 3 minutes into the video you are mentioning the same plant! Great video as always :)
The transporter that flew over at the pub was an A400M, the RAF's current transport aircraft. We got to see all sorts when we were there, including seeing a Hawk flying barely 100 ft above us and many V22 Ospreys which buzzed th area we were staying during the night, they are incredibly loud!
While commonly referred to as Lake Windermere, its true name is actually just Windermere. This common variation is often used to differentiate between the lake and the village of the same name. This makes perfect sense
I'd never wish for someone to get stuck out in a thunderstorm, but the ASMR aspects of your walk in the rain were great! I love thunderstorms, but only from a cozy perch indoors. I greatly enjoy your walking videos.
Eva sits very nicely on the picnic bench waiting for her treat. Is she welcome in cafés when you travel? When we were in Scotland we saw quite a few small and medium sized dogs in the outdoor seating areas of pubs and restaurants. They were well mannered so it was fun getting to meet them and their people.
I loved it when Eva looked into the camera with that "aren't I cute" look on her face. Lovely scenery and I feel like I was with you all, thanks for this .
Brilliant video! Looks like i need to explore this area, as my Wife & I are staying in Windermere for New Year 😁👍
I should go back to Windermere. It sounds like it's been ages but it was only early this summer.
Eva was such a good girl on these adventures!
In case anyone was wondering, the two jets seen around 29:50 were F-15s. There are some stationed at RAF Lakenheath. You’re quite lucky to see them as the RAF don’t actually own any, RAF Lakenheath is operated by the United States Airforce.
Thank you, Mr Shrimp, as always, for the delightful walks, and especially Moss Heaven. You mentioned a rain poncho: are you happy with it and might we get to see it sometime? I trust it is purple.
AMAZING Tour!! but I would Also like to give Ms. Eva her due props (*Claps for Eva) - it seems that she IS a very Good Girl!!
When you commented on the locks my first thought was to wonder if you would ever run across one of those trees with coins hammered into it. Boy was I excited when you actually ran a one in this video
I would amble around Ambleside, bow in Bownes and, ahem, make wind by Windermere 💨 Wandering is reserved for Wandering, Western Australia.
Thanks, that was very interesting. Those falls were wonderful. Quite an idyllic setting, (even given the eternal dampness and constant roaring :-) The sort of memory that would last a lifetime for many children who have visited. By the way, I think the large transport aircraft was likely an Airbus A400M Atlas, (you do it with plants and fungi, I do it with aircraft :-)
Atomic Shrimp, you would have an absolute field day in any of America’s National Parks. Maybe hop the pond and see what we have over here for a couple weeks??
That was really beautiful scenery, the UK is so interesting through your videos, thanks from Piqua, Ohio, USA.
21:38, actually a kind of moss called "fern moss," I suspect. There are different species with similar growth patterns in different parts of the world. I don't know if one of my comments was the one you were referring to, but I love moss and ferns. Growing up in an arid environment, I rarely saw either moss or ferns except in films and conservatories. Edit: I posted this before I got to the part where you identified it yourself, LOL! It's a lovely moss!
30:54 Oh, look! They've got a sail on.....Goacher!
I know why so many people like watching Atomic Shrimps videos like that, it gives us the feeling of spending time with a father, were never had in real life....
Thanks Mike, under the tutelage of your channel, my wife says I have become the sub atomic krill. You have helped me rekindle so many interests from my younger years.
That Bridge House is probably one of the most bizarre thing I've seen so far.
Loved the little fairy hut. How about a video making something similar, that would be a winner 👍
Moss. I am t he moss person .Thank you for sharing the moss. It was effective, I am affected. Thank you, Mr. Shrimp, Mrs. Shrimp, and Eva for sharing your walk. And the moss. The power of small kindness is overwhelming.
Greetings and salutations Shrimp fans.
Love from the Netherlands. Have a great weekend
Thanks for the video Mike .. groetjes thuis!
I'm surprised you haven't seen a log with pennies embedded before. Must be a thing up north, think you're supposed to get a wish, or luck or something. To ease your worries, its usually only done on fallen trees.
I had some recollection of hearing about people doing it, but couldn't recall the context or the lore. It's the first time I've seen one in real life
Thanks so much for all you do. I had booked a trip to the Lakes District and accommodation in Ambleside but also Covid came and this video was a joy to watch.

Eva looked as if she enjoyed the view on the boat❤❤
An accurate weather forecast? Who knew.
Gorgeous! I'm pretty housebound at the mo waiting for an operation after which I hope I'll be able to go out hiking and exploring again! I love these rambling nature walks as it is so wholesome and joyful. I loved the waterfalls, the trees and ferns, the moss heaven, the sounds of the water. Very evocative of some of my favourite walks around the UK. Apparently the coin trees are wishing trees and date back to the 1700s for bringing health and good luck to whoever hammers the coins in!
All the best for your operation 👍. We're very lucky to have the Shrimp family to vicariously quench our rambling thirsts.
No, no, no - it's not "Lake Windermere" ; "mere" means "lake" - the body of water in correctly known only as Windermere. The only large body of water in the Lake District with "Lake" in the name is "Bassenthwaite Lake".
I suspect Shrimp already knew this and I have bitten on a rather obvious piece of bait...
From the Lake District National Park web page: 'Enjoy the stunning mountain views around England's largest lake,'
I think the point was it's obviously a lake, but its name isn't "Lake Windermere" - it's just "Windermere". Well, no difference (i suppose it's like saying "Mount K2" when it's just "K2")
"Mere" means "lake", so the town Windermere should be named Windertown? My guess is that they added "lake" to allow distinction between the lake and the town, sometime before the late 80s, when I hiked near "Lake Windermere" as it was known then.
@@jensgoerke3819 It's natural for towns to be named after nearby geographical features, and what you are saying sounds pretty plausible.
@@haltalt3376 in these sorts of discussions, I think what people very often neglect to consider is: I know that I am speaking to an international audience, including a majority of people who may be completely unfamiliar with the subject of the video. In this context, clarity of meaning is nearly always more important than semantics.
I make a lot of mistakes, but this wasn't one of them. In considering the audience, I thought it necessary to make it clear that Windermere-the-body-of-water is what they might think of as a lake, and that there was also a thing called the town of Windermere.
