I'm trying something different with this video. I wanted to explain why this song means so much to me, and why I think Daft Punk's lore gives them the ability to create articulate concepts such as the ones found on Random Access Memories.
Touch is an emotional journey where we find the robots... well, learning how to feel emotion again. This process comes with pain, and struggle, and a heartshattering conclusion that I go over in the video.
I'm probably going to make a video on RAM in the future so I hope this one is enjoyable.
What do you think of this record? Let's talk about it in the comments!
Thanks so much for watching. Every subscriber/viewer means a lot to me, and I appreciate every like and comment. Let me know what you think about the video or the album and I'd love to have a discussion in the comments! Music is meant to be discussed to assimilate ideas and to grow as people.

I am a Christian and student and I made this channel when I was in high school. I started this channel because I love talking about music (specifically hip hop) and given that the genre seems to be going downhill, I want to be part of the community that preserves the expectation of great music and dissecting what makes a beautiful record. Dealing with a lack of friends to discuss these matters with, I hoped to start my own community that loves music just as I do, as well as to provide a unique perspective as a follower of Christ that also appreciates this community. I appreciate everyone who watches and I am truly happy to see anybody comment their thoughts on a project I talk about.
Put "WHERE DO I BELONG?" as your comment if you read the description!
As always, thank you very much for watching and taking time out of your day to discuss music with me, God bless. Isaiah 55:8-12
This song is perfection imo. Might be my favourite song of all time. Not only is it musicaly great but sonically it sounds flawless, crisp yet warm and real! Great content breaking down music like this.
💯 and the way multiple musical genres snare melded together in such a flawless way, it really is a beautiful piece of art
Touch is a masterpiece made, my favorite in the album, and I’ve been searching everywhere for an analysis of it. I’ve done research and watched interviews and videos with paul williams in it regarding this track and coming to find this video too made me happy. Thanks for talking about this, loved it.
Wow, I am so glad to hear that somebody connected with this like I did... you made my day!
I always heard the choral "home, hold on, if love is the answer your home" (the official version if the CD sleeve is anything to go by) as "hold, hold on, if love is the answer you'll hold." My interpretation of the latter being answer to where do I belong: if your love of someone is true, then you'll hold onto that relationship in times of adversity and in turn belong in said relationship.
I’m in a very rough patch in my life rn and every time I listen to this song it just calms everything down. Going through the song and feeling amazing and then that final verse ends and I feel like I’m right back where I started. The calmness and excitement ceases and then it’s just quiet. You’re interpretation is damn near perfect imo. Great fucking video man!
One more time is their best song, they even get a Grammy during the interstalla movie. It’s mentioned multiple times too.
Great analysis and well-made video! That song really is a journey in and of itself, and can be taken a number of different ways which is what makes it (and much of their catalogue) so enduring.
My guy! Good to see you comment. Thanks for your support as always
I had just stumbled upon your video, I think it's really interesting the take you have on this song, the song is also composed of up to 250 elements within the song which is mind-blowing for an 8 minute masterpiece and thrill ride of a song, I'd be very interested to see a video of RAM whenever you decide to do it and maybe even one on 'Discovery', as their final album since they broke up in 2021, I honestly think it's a great send off from the duo who created this story of these robots and it's the kind of album I've revisited more and more now and I'm glad we got the music for those 28 years.
One of the videos where I was thinking while watching that it has thounsands of views and everybody knows it - great analysis and interpretion, I now appreaciate the song even more!
I had something more but I lost it, now I don't know what to do....
Fantastic video❤️
This is also my favorite song from daft punk
Really nice explanation!! I think you should explore Joji's music especially with the new album coming out. Turns out there's a whole "jojiverse" to explore. Good luck! I'm going through a heartbreak right now and the music is so therapeutic.
Amazing song favorite song on album
Man you have practically all my interests in music, you have such a similar view to mine, Touch is just, the main song. Touch has always been something I think daft punk have thought of, with their 1st outfits, their gloves/hands literally made it impossible to "feel", and as their outfits become more advanced and lightweight, the more they are able to feel in those outfits,, and then it ends,, they play touch. I think the reason they focus so much as for 'humanity' and 'love', is because these are things they have always been preaching for, if someone were to see a human doing that, they will simply relate, but if it is not of their flesh they cannot see the similarities and will instead focus on understanding. I also believe they chose Paul for this track since he in the music world has been considered a "show off" or "tough guy" of sorts, and finally being able to let out this sensitive part of him that was hidden by desire and want was something they wanted to achieve. All these sorts of details combine into something that.. would lead to Touch. Touch is a masterpiece with no frame or canvas, there is always something more.
Excellent analysis, I've always interpreted the song as a last desperate attempt from a fading body holding a pristine mind to feel something illogical, something impure, something more. But the question remains, Where do I belong?
The great Paul Williams. So happy he did this with Daft Punk.
Storytelling in music is my new obsession
Interesting! To me the song must refer to the movie Phantom of paradise: see the similarity between the beginning of Touch and the Faust scene where the same Paul Williams « humanize » the voice with music machines… & the movie’s idea that machines can give us love and fame - at a cost (our soul)
Where is the begining clip with the melting faces from?
