@HOBOTECH i am a subscriber and have a question with this inverter. On the AC output terminals it shows continuity between the neutral and live/hot wire, why is this? Sungoldpower sent me a replacement and the second inverter i received has the same readings. I have not hooked up either inverter to any wires
@@inkpusher3072 That's an engineering question. Mine does the same and works fine.
Thank you for clarification on the temperature sensor and Lithium Batteries.
After reviewing many YT videos, I selected the SunGoldPower 3000W inverter/charger. I purchased it for my Class B Camper Van. The electrical system in my van is powered by a 520aH LiFePO4 battery bank. The main consumers are a microwave, TV, laptop, and an 8000BTU air conditioner. My choice of the SunGoldPower was based on the charging output, and the capacity of the pure sine wave inverter to support my devices while boondocking (camping off grid)-- and the price. It has all the attributes of some of the more expensive units available. When I received the unit, I was very pleased at the quality of construction, and care taken in packaging it. The installation was easy, and the instructions provided were top-notch (Professor Hobo was spot-on!). Even though I have 30+ years of building and using similar systems, good instructions are very useful. Now, they include a 2 year warranty, matching what appears to be the industry standard. The unit is excellent value for money, and the technical support after the sale - Outstanding. I highly recommend the product, the company - Sun Gold Power, and their support team!
Unfortunately after several trips in my camper/van, the inverter stopped. The charger continued to function 100%. I immediately contacted the company and they assigned me a personal representative. Together we got "right-on-it." Their email assistance provided several simple checks to help determine and isolate the problem.
Opening the inverter was easy and the unit appeared to be well laid out and solidly constructed. A real plus in my opinion. The guidance was helpful and clear. The problem proved to be the mainpower supply board. They sent one out from a US-based warehouse, and delivery was within a few days. Again, they provided helpful support for the removal and installation of the board and a set of test procedures, to check all was well before I reinstalled in my rig.
Within a little time, I had the system repaired and reinstalled in my van. Everything is functioning 100%. I highly recommend the 3000Watt inverter/charger and the Sun Gold Power Support Team. Thank you Sun Gold Power! THANK YOU Professor Hobo!
I appreciate your videos ,you have educated me in this field and much appreciated.
Sun Gold looks EXACTLY like the AIMS Corp unity out of Nevada. AIMS user
manual is detailed, and their user support is difficult. Thanks for your nice review. Just compared
the 2 manuals, and they are the same, with Suns having made a few minor
changes. Aims unit for 3k is $1.200.00 and Sun is $750.00. No status LED read out on the AIMS unit.
pretty decent price for the product. I went with the Victron on multi plus 24V 3000 And have been very happy with it. Not the cheapest option but their products integrate very well with each other very easily.
Thanks Doctor, I appreciate the info, humor and professional content!
That brand of inverter is the best. I have a 3000 watts. Surge to 9000 watts. Very quiet.
Thank you for this video of the 3000w SunGoldPower off grid solar inverter charger.
It also has a transformer so if the inverter fails it won't put high power DC into your loads and destroy things or set them on fire.
I have this exact model with a Chins 400ah in our class C. Works great!
I have the 2000W unit being used in a battery back-up configuration for a sump pump and emergency lighting in the basement. One piece of information that would be nice to have in advance is the 12 volt input thread size in order to make up proper fittings for the battery wire ends. It's M8 and does not seem to be listed anywhere in the manual or on line --- I had to contact a supplier for that info. Even UA-cam videos such as yours does not mention this. Otherwise, a great video, thank you.
This is hands down the best review of this inverter I’ve seen. Lots of information. Had to subscribe!!
Good evening professor. Nice gear and review. looks like the upright supports for a large ground base solar system framework.
Good review, you're stepping into Will Prowse territory now.
Looks like the start og of a solar panel rack system. This is what I will be doing when I get several new panels. Need the new panels, not enough sun to get through the winter (we installed led lights that run on AC not DC). I do fine when it is my son and me, hubby comes home and wants to live like we are grid-tied.
nice inverter reminds me of the high amperage Renogy
Just found your channel, great video. I have the 4K watt version with 3 SOK 206 ah lifepo4 batteries, none of which is installed yet as I am doing a complete system rebuild. Thank you for putting out this kind of content, it really helps.
Thanks for all you do sir
This is the way
Thank you for a great review I learned so much from your videos
Dam honotech, you've come a long way. I remeber when you had just 3,000 subs and that wired roadtrek.
I came for the review, but stayed for the 70’s metal 😂
I'm a simple man, I see hobotech and I click.
Thanks still waiting on September Bluetti AC300
Finally you are doing the review on inverter, thanks! BTW, you forget to do noise test on the amplifier.
I didn't forget. I cut it due to time. It's a low frequency inverter.
@@HOBOTECH Thanks. I am thinking about getting it but the standby is 50W when not in Eco mode is kind of high, that is 1200Whr per day,. The price of the unit is great, $655 after $80 off, no tax and free shipping. They also have 2KW one that only uses 24W in standby (eco mode off) at $629.
very cool...been looking for just this type of inverter charger for my off grid system ordered one!
The Great Wall of Solar going in. Thanks
Bingo!
I know nothing about electricity, but you made this inverter understandable to even me.
You, sir, would make a good teacher (and I suspect there may be some teaching in your former life).
No guess about what's being built at Hobotech World Headquarters; I'm wrong often enough in my life.
This looks fantastic. I've been looking for an alternative to the AIMS inverter/chargers which seem pretty hard to find.
From the looks of it it's probably built by the same factory as the AIMS.
@@bullseye9899 Agreed. It really looks like a rebranded AIMS.
It's a Aims inverter , just a different company.
They are all built by Sigineer
I like that we are taking steps to have our own power supply. My question is, why do we focus only on solar cells, a dish seems to be more better.
Seems to me those devices are like those TVs with a video tape player-dvd-blue ray-toaster-and a can opener all in one. When 1 part fails ya just throw the hole thing away. Separate components have way more advantages.
Thank you so much! This video is so appreciated. I will watch on each of my accounts lol
We got our Bluetti today making sure you got credit for it
If you used my links I got credit. Appreciate it.
Bought this. Having used it for a few months, one issue:
-the charger is inefficient above a 50A output, and not great below 50A. As in, a 90A output at 13.5v (1215W) pulls 17-18A at 120v (2100W). That's 58%. Below 50A efficiency comes in around 70%.
It’s like fro knows photo hell
is this unit better than those All-in-one units from MPPsolar or Growatt? the price is about the same
Depends on your needs. The all in ones do have downsides. I personally would never mix a hot solar controller with a hot inverter in the same box.
Sigineer has been using the same basic parts for at least 4 years now
Love your reviews took a bit of ZZ Top filtering but well worth working through
That's gonna be some serious solar racking pretty soon
great review. TOM
Once again great …could I say less. Guess you might put that in the RoadTrek😃. That auto gen start would be awesome 👍🎩
I would if it wasn't so big.
@2:07 Regarding Automatic Generator Start (AGS), have you tried that? I have had difficulty getting the SunGoldPower 3000W inverter AGS to start or stop my 2020 Onan 2500 LP generator using the inverter's AGS dry contacts. For those unfamiliar, dry contacts are a safe and standard interface for many worldwide generators that provide the automatic remote start function when the battery voltage gets low (10/10.5V). Can you kindly demonstrate the AGS on this inverter?
Great review! Thanks HT!
Discount code does not work.
Wait... can u connect solar to it?
Same as Aims inverter charger
So I can use this with a sine wave gas generator and it won't get damaged just to be clear? If so...nice.
It seems if I hookup a bank of Lithium Batteries, and use grid power and standby (Non Inverter Generator) I would be able in a power outage use this system for backup. The inverter would clean up any power from my (Non Inverter Generator) and be able to power through the batteries giving me clean power. Sorry for the rambling....Is this possible??
Yep
Very nice inverter
Can you please do another video showing all the power that can put out
As soon as someone gives me a couple more LFP batteries, sure.
Very entertaining remind me of a character on the hollow deck of STNG. Lol
I just like , then watch..:) whish Odin would be more often on videos...:)
So it looks like you are putting in a ground mount solar system. Is it a 13-15k setup?
Bingo!
@@HOBOTECH Did you have to pull permits to build this array? Are you planning to do a grid tie?
@@captaincurt3180 Nope and nope. Grid tie is useless. I want something that works when the grid is down.
@@HOBOTECH Used panels are cheap, you could have a nice trip in your roadtrek to get 40x250w $50 panels
Hi. Great review of Sun Gold inverter.
I have a question:
Do you still have the inverter around ? Can you help me with a close up photo of the controller board ?
I need to identify part number of a failed 8-pin iC surface mount component (it burnt up) on a similar inverter, so that I can purchase and replace.
Let me know if you can help sir. Regards.
This looks like a rebranded Aims inverter.
thank you for the great review. You said you had to do something special to initiate a bulk charge without discharging the battery. I'm trying to FORCE a bulk charge to ensure I reached 14.6v before the bulk charge goes to float charge in my off grid system so I have enough battery storage to last the night.. Please tell me what you did to get to the high amperage bulk charge to trigger. Thanks,
I bought this unit to run a midea window a/c. The a/c runs for 5 minutes and then the sungold trips. Any advice appreciated!
12,000 btu
Excellent video!
please tell us the distance from the sound source you are taking your sound measurements at . generally near field sound is measured at 1 m. tks
I do all tests at 1m unless it's a mechanical generator then I do it at 7m.
Nice in-depth review. As for the closing image you showed, I would have to guess.... You've poured a few yards of concrete for your uprights leg sections of a "New Ground Mount Solar Array" as they look very similar to what I did a few years back for my ground mount solar array up at my property in Washington. Looks like you had a little help with that skid-steer though, where as in my adventure I did not have that luxury. I ended up digging those four 2.5' x 4' holes by hand, not much fun. I was running into huge rocks every inch, so yes it was literally by hand. Looks good Professor, are those 6" uprights? I was able to do mine with 4" rigid galvanized pipe in a 4 legged configuration using "Iron Ridge's" online tool to help me design my array.
8" and they are down 5 feet due to wind and snow loads here. I'm contracting out the work. "I'm a tech not a construction worker!"
I would have liked to have you check the distortion through your amp.
It's a low frequency inverter. It's clean.
thanks for the info
Mine has a solar controller built in too
is the GFCI outlet Limited to 15 amps ?? I have 24v 3000 model hooked up to
2 /24v 200 AH batteries in parallel 400 AH total, will it only charge when my volts drop below 20 volts ?
Ho Ho hobo ! Happy Thanksgiving !
I like the SunGold inverter. Hard to beat. Ground mount solar? Thanks for sharing
bingo!
@@HOBOTECH dual axis tracking ?

Good review 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏🇺🇸🤗
Looks like an Aims inverter but cheaper in price
Hm cool
Dude looks like Sam Hydes dad.
Thanks for the info!
Would be interested to know the advantages of using 12V vs. 24V/48V (serial/parallel).
Only advantage is lower current draw so you can use smaller cable.
What portable generators have a 2 wire auto start that will work with this unit? Will a generator with high THD work with this inverter? Thanks
My question is:
Can I be on Utility setting in switch 5 and still charge my battery constantly while plugged into shore power ? say I'm running a 12v fridge or 12v A/C unit? I don't want to be on battery setting and drain it in case I pick up and move to an off grid site.
Thank you for the review. I am interested in the efficiency of this inverter. Watching the video for efficiency you use 78.2A *12V but the display on the inverter states 12.6V. If you use 12.6V the efficiency is just under 84%. What is the reason to use 12V instead of 12.6V?
Hi Hoooooobooooooooooooooo Technoooooooooooooooooooo !!! It's me your friend Buck.......I'm your paranormal friend !!!!!
It's been two years now since I've been abducted by aliens.
You need to use the SOS signal if you want them to come back.
So is the same as the old 32 volt Delco which had an auto start feature that the generator started when you turned on a light or when a device turned on it would start up and shut off when no power was needed except it took a lot longer than 3 or 30 seconds to start up but then it was still better than having to get up in the middle of the night light a lantern and go out or in most cases downstairs and start the generator when the wind stopped blowing to get auto feed on your coal furnace running and relight the furnace oh how spoiled we are we want light's that come on when we flip a switch furnace that automatically keeps our house at a set temperature and hot and cold water when we turn on a tap
i know this is off topic but since its your latest video maybe you will see the msg a little sooner? The Jackery 300 is back. Im not sure why i want to get the 300 so bad when i have a 240 and a 500 ?
SOMEBODY’S been hitting the Saurian brandy.
Somebody hasn't been getting enough sleep because he's working too hard.
I'd love to know more about not charging a li-ion battery below freezing. Can you freeze a battery and show us what happens?
I don't have any to throw away but other channels have done it.
Excellent review! I have a question about adding solar to this setup. Would you simply connect the output from a solar controller between the inverter-charger and the battery? Basically, you'd connect the solar controller output directly to the battery (after any fuses or cutoff switch). Is that right? I'm wondering if there would be any issues with the combined power coming from the inverter-charger PLUS the solar controller, while connected to shore-power AND solar. Thanks.
You connect a solar controller to the battery. They can both charge the battery simultaneously.
I hear jazz music somewhere in the background.
Another brilliant video. Thanks! (Just 1 Question: You set the battery toggle for AGM2, but you said you were using a LifeP04 battery. I don't see a setting for Lithium. What am I missing?)
As mentioned in the video my model is from last year before they added the lithium setting. It really doesn't matter with drop in lithium batteries as they have a BMS that handles charge limits. Just set it to 14.6v and forget it.
@@HOBOTECH - I missed that. I'm sorry. Thanks again for another good video, and the additional feedback. :)
Do you how to hook up up the 2 wire to auto start to a portable 12000watt generator
Why doesn't anyone ever test the generator start feature
Can these run electric base board heat?
Hello have a question on the bluettie eb70 considering buying can't figure out the difference between the eb70 and eb70s help please
That's my question too. All I've seen is that the inverter is 800 and not 700 Watts
Ahh thanks see that now too hopefully hobotech will review that one also I think he was not impressed with the 700watt inverter
Better inverter and I believe a better charger.
I've been looking at this inverter. Can you run the inverter and turn on an AM Radio either battery powered or plug in and listen for any RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) static. Being a low frequency inverter I would be interested in how it performed under a load.
👍
Do you recommend a 48v system if i prefer to run bigger loads around 3000-4000 watts.
With a 6000w LF inverter from aims?
Higher voltage is more efficient as it requires less current for equivalent wattages, putting less demand on wires. It's why power lines use high voltage over large distances.
I bought a Bluetti AC200P. Is it better to hook 4-180W solar panels or 2-360w panels to keep it constantly topped off as it's used.. What set of 2-360w; or set of 4-170-180w do you recommend? I just want to cut down on the number of panels need. (due to space). Thanks.
Iv had a LF inverter/charger for a while. Why anyone buys the HF inverters. Mine does 12v to 240v at 3000w and a surge of 9000w. It's also got a 75A charger from the main.
Ah looks like they discontinued the coupon. Too bad!!
They have their own sale going. Use code SALE15
Has the Sungoldpower inverter been installed and working for the last year? I am trying to get a sense of its reliability.
It's in my RV now if that says anything.
where is the link? Wind farm?
Another Great Video.
How does this compare to the Growatt SPF5000?
I'll let you know when I review one.
great !!!
Couple things here. First my Sungold 2K unit burns 5.5 amps at idle on a 24 volt system. This is something like 145 watts just sitting doing nothing. Next the battery charger can't be turned on or off. it only can be engaged when the battery drops below 10 or in my case on my unit 20 volts. This isn't where you want to start charging your lead acid battery bank. Be nice if you could turn it on when you have power. I had mine running on the generator all day about 9 hours and it made it to absorption charge (light flashing) but never kicked over to float. I'm not sure if I'll even use this unit as it is not kind to your battery bank. I'll probably keep it around to start an air compressor or run the big ac unit but I best get my solar hooked up before I burn up this new GC2 Cosco 6 volt batteries. I may try an modify the charger on this to be able to turn it on and off at will and have it shut the unit down at 50% DOD, guessing around 24.8 volts. Plan on building a small generator charger for it using a 24volt alternator. Might play around with doing a pma unit
Also power saving mode is pretty useless and my 24v unit was kicking at about 17 amps when charging. Not 90, not 45 and not even 20. My stupid big box smart charger from 20 years ago can do that. So let's say I have 1200 watts of panels charging 8 6v batteries with my 75ah lifepo4 bank in there as well. Maybe I could use the power saving mode but I'm not trusting this thing for more than an hour or two with me not right there. No running off grid internet and cameras with this unit unless you have a huge solar array charging a massive bank of batteries in that case you might as well have an 8k split phase
Say your batteries run out at 5 am and its switches to charging. Will it stop charging after solar panels kick in around 8 am. Or will it keep charging until batteries are full? Does anybody know?
The current charging limit could be set to a Low value so it would not put a lot in before the solar kicked in. I know, it’s not exactly what you are looking for, but it would be a possible work around.
@@PlanePreacher That would probably work. Thanks
The charger will run until the batteries hit 13.0v. You could very easily put a digital timer on the AC input so it won't charge after a certain time.
@@HOBOTECH Good idea thanks
