I have more faith in the Mario movie than any other video game movie to date, and here's why: 1. The team at Illumination working on the movie is not the main team. They didn't work on Despicable Me or The Grinch, and in fact are forming a new adult branch to diversify their films. In fact, Mario seems to be their first big film, with the short Penglai, which is a gorgeous short from Momo Wang who works at Illumination. Look it up if you're interested. 2. Nintendo has been heavily involved with this. Despite what Miyamoto said in the past, he admitted to disliking the 1991 movie quite a bit, saying it wasn't Mario in the slightest. And no doubt he doesn't want a repeat of that. So, he and others at Nintendo have been overseeing the project and helping the studio with creating ideas. 3. Unlike other video game series, Mario isn't exactly story driven. Sure, characters reappear, but it's the same plot almost every time. With no expansive story like Sonic or Ratchet and Clank, they have enough freedom to get as creative at they want with how they present the world Mario. A few things will remain constant, like the characters, enemies, and power ups, but the story won't be restrained by what's come in the past.
@@AshXXMayftw There was still that classic animated slow-motion shot with the goofy slowed down voice that I really don’t love. Though that was more of a gag in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, which is Sony.
@@calvinjohnson6242 you know who will love it. Kids. And isn't that what is important? Do children need an epic serious grey, gritty, Mario? Or can kids be kids?
@@kotabear6556 Children are smarter than adults give them credit for. Sure, kids will enjoy low-brow children humor, but they also enjoy clever and well-written humor. They don’t need it to be dumbed down to enjoy it, so why not put some actual effort into the jokes? When I was a child, me and my friends’ favorite movies were Indiana Jones, Star Wars, and Lord of the Rings. Family adventure films, meant for everyone and generally considered to be the most classic films of all time. Because they were good films, and we knew it. I loved family animated movies as well! Disney and Pixar was always the best. I liked other studios as well, but you know what I would always say my least favorite parts were? The annoying characters that had stupid, childlike jokes. Like the burps in Shrek or Snotlout and the gang from How to Train Your Dragon. And guess who also watches these kids movies? Parents! So why on Earth would you make a movie they wouldn’t like as well? If adults are watching it and they think it’s garbage, it is garbage, no matter what the kids say. Kids like good movies, so the idea of a movie just for kids is utter laziness and an excuse for bad writers, and I will not accept it. Then, consider this. It’s MARIO. Adults have nostalgia for Mario. Everyone likes Mario. Everyone will come and see this movie, and it had better be good, or they will be torn apart for messing up of one of the world’s most beloved characters. This IP has already been messed up once, and it’ll be a disgrace if it happens a second time. I know you know that it’s not true that the only way a movie can be enjoyable to adults is if it’s dark and gritty. What we’re looking for is a Pixar-like film. Well written and family friendly. Humor that both adults and children can enjoy. Complex characters and story that will make children learn something about the human condition and maybe feel feelings they’ve never felt before. Movies are an art, and even a movie about Mario… *especially* a movie about Mario, deserves to be made with care and artistic vision. Kids will be kids. Then kids will become adults. And they’ll want to rewatch their favorite films, and still love them.

The internet legend of Cocaine bear is that a duffle bag fell from a drug trafficking plane and the bear got into the bag and was later found dead. One comment joked "For 15 minutes that bear was the deadliest apex predator on the planet" and it seems that is what they went with for this movie 🤣
The cocaine bear story comes from the book Bluegrass Conspiracy. Spoiler, the bear eats coke and dies. The bear was stuffed and currently resides at a indoor flea market in Lexington Kentucky
1985, Kentucky, a bear was found dead after eating around $15 million worth of cocain dropped from a plane during a failed drug smuggling opperation. The smuggler was the son of a wealthy horse breeding company. He hit his head on the tail of the plane when he bailed, and didn't open his chute early enough to survive the jump, and was found dead in a driveway, and eventually nine bags of cocain were found along with the planes flight path. A few months later the bear was found with the 10th bag ripped open next to him, the 75ish pounds of coke having been eaten. Like, in reality it died pretty quick. But for a short time there, it was likely the deadliest predetor on the planet.
They're going with the Mario voice from the original TV show from back in the early nineties where he's a plumber from Brooklyn. Mario didn't actually sound like the Mario we know until like 96. I'm here for it.

The Donkey Kong vs Mario fight was not a reference to Smash. It was referencing the original Donkey Kong arcade game. You can also see the girders they were standing on.

I know this week has been busy for you guys but thank you for the trailers because I'm behind on my tv watching and I'm trying to remain unspoiled. I love my internet best friends and been missing you guys.
I really like the Elemental teaser, just because it reminded me of the short teasers that Pixar used to do for their upcoming films; the teaser would usually be a few seconds and serve to introduce the title and lead characters and that was it. They haven't done those in a while but it was kinda nice in a nostalgic way to have this be executed in that fashion. I also really like that Ember and Wade seem to have different art styles.
Elemental reminds me of the 1981 Japanese anime called The Sea Prince and the Fire Child, where the story is a retelling of Romeo and Juliet star crossed love affair.
They personified animals, they personified feelings, now it's elements. Pixar gets an automatic "okay, show me whatchya got" attitude from me, they've earned it.
