As someone who frequently rides Amtrak this would be a nice development.
They make it sound so revolutionary when these trains have already been used in other countries for years. You know what is also gonna be new? The ticket price.
Considering their main competitors are airlines and the automobile, it kinda is
Its revolutionary in the US.
yea i was just thinking, we've had this shit in Europe for many years now. The US really is lagging behind in passenger trains
@@trymetal95 we're lagging behind because its inconvenient af to take trains. A train from San Francisco to Chicago in high speed isn't ideal because of the mountains. And plus people would rather fly in the US.
@@trymetal95 I grew up in Malaysia and when I moved back to NY, I thought I travelled back in time. Mind you, Malaysia is a 3rd world country.
Absolutely remarkable. It’s good to see the American train system moving into the 21st century
Now, if they could only make them go as fast as the bullet trains in Japan and Europe.
The train itself can, it has a top speed of 220 mph, but it will be limited to only 160 mph at most unfortunately
strongforu WE GET IT! EUROPEAN AND ASIAN TRAINS ARE FASTER THAN AMERICAN!
Affordable. The key word is affordable. It doesn't matter if it can go over 160mph if the general public won't benefit off the upgrade.
@@Mahoot The train is and will still share tracks with other train services, so it's not really HST. They'll still need to slow down for a commuter train doing 70mph on 19th century tracks.
Mahoot Expressway 160mph? Where in th US? When?
What I want is the rides to be longer XD I love trains
That’s literally anywhere else in North America outside the NEC
Oh
Be careful what you wish for.
This looks like the standard high speed mainline express trains in Europe.
Muricans are kind of behind the world not only Europe
@@andrerothweiler9191 Muricans invented the globalized world, including modern Europe.
@@3506Dodge I mean with trains and public transport, sure you are right with electronics, web and finances. You can get in Europe to every corner with train and you need no car, same as in China or Japan
No this is a brand new train Alston designed it will be introduced to Europe shortly
Well it's designed by a European company
They need to make it affordable to the general public. Unfortunately, not going to happen -- the trend has been by far the other way.
@@w.wilson5800 Actually a quasi-public company, which means that it combines the disadvantages of a government agency with the disadvantages of a private company. The US should go whole hog and nationalize it fully, like many other technologically advanced countries that actually have good rail passenger service unlike us.
Nevertheless, in the 1980s, they managed to offer affordable Northeast Corridor service that was consistently cheaper than air travel (except when the airlines were having some kind of fare war that undoubtedly cost them more money than they made) and not too much more expensive than bus travel, and they didn't play games with the fares, and you could go down to South Station at any time and buy a ticket good on any non-premium train at any time, and it was always the same price for a given distance, and it just worked. Now they act like an airline, and it's horrible, with them ripping you off more the closer you get to the time you travel, and all seats being reserved, and often more expensive than competing air travel.
And Congress only listens to their corporate masters, which want to get Amtrak out of the way so that everybody has to fly and/or buy a car and the fuel for it.
it is actually affordable $33 thats hella good
@@maricelaperez6203 $33 when and what distance? They play games with the fares so that occasionally you might be able to get an affordable fare somewhere if your timing of making the reservation AND when your trip will be is JUST RIGHT, but that isn't what they usually offer for any reasonably long distance on the Northeast Corridor (like all the way from Boston to New York or all the way from Washington DC to New York). And if you are going on one of the long-distance routes (that they want to get rid of), it's even worse.
Bruh the tickets are cheap as hell tbh, northeast regional trains are literally 35 dollars, and the Acela is 85 dollars. (For the lowest class of service...) It's hella cheap
@FarhaNYC Fu
I feel like riding AMTRAX when I visit America.
Looks spacious, nice big bathrooms, I like it so far!
YES THANK GOD ACTUAL DECENT AMTRAK BATHROOMS
As long as they keep them clean, anyway...
@ThomasG10mtn amtrak only lost 20 million bucks.
Engineer's station looks like something out of Startrek. Looks nice.
All new high speed train islike that.
Wow wow my respect 🙌 for the new train, I love to travel by train 😍
Awesome!
Finally catching up with the world!!
egenesis1 will shave off only 15 mins on the trip. This is not a true HST because it still shares the rails with local and commuter services. A true HST operates on its own tracks.
Catching up by updating expensive 19th century technology?
I hope they keep the old Acela's, in train years they aren't that old, arguably middle aged!
I'm sure they'd be good for some North East regional routes too.
The acela should have been preserved.
They'll likely be sold to another electrified commuter train line. Probably the MTBA
Now i'm hungry for a chili dog with onions.
The price will be doubled, but the speed remains the same.
Exactly what a waste of money
Acela was getting very expensive to maintain. And the new trainsets will be capable of higher speeds when Amtrak improves the right-of-way.
That depends on a couple of things, how much power do you draw, how much capacity do you have and the maintenance costs. So it might actually be cheaper or more expensive, we can't know yet.
That’s true.. in the NEC between Washington and Boston, there are speed restrictions, and lots of curves. The only place acela can get to its top speed is in CT
@@Cubbie410 Actually I believe it's RI not CT. But they will be able to reach top speed in NJ too very soon
Great vedio..
Wow I like this and I like the Video too.
Japan: How fast can you go?
Amtrak: Yes!
And then there is Poland with lighter, faster pendolino sets serving us since 2013. And do you know what’s the best? These trains are tanks: 30 people killed+3 fatal car accidents. I’ve been in one doing one of the crashes, extremely safe.
Now when they run off the rails, at least you will be in comfort. Way to go Amtrak!
What about bedrooms for the Xcountry runs like the Empire Builder?
Never been on Amtrak. I took a train one time at 10 years old with my step sister and clan to New Years Day parade. Never been to one since.
Top! Top! Top!
Wasting money upgrading the trains but not the crippled rail network that can't sustain higher speeds
They been upgrading the tracks for about 3 years the new sets will do165 instead of 150
USA : I'M THE BEST
CR400AF : HOLD MY BEER
What about Regional Trains?
They have a contract for new coaches from Siemens that will replace the metroliners and bi levels.
Gorgeous. Engine is made in?
it's built by alstom in france
But will the trains go more quickly. We need higher speed trains and were not going to get it if they don’t designate tracks specially for the Acela trains. Instead of the trains going on old bridges which forces the trains to slow down . Either replace the tracks or fix the bridges. If you could work it out in the the northeast corridor then you could do it with trains going east to west with multiple lines starting from Maine. Starting from Washington. Starting from New York, Atlanta. Florida etc.all going cross country .With speeds of 200mph a lot more people would want to go especially those who are going to jobs and business people.
Only think now is to replace the genrsis locomotives with the siemons charger and new cars to replace the aging amfleet and horizon coaches.
Sean Brosnan check out the coaches on Florida’s Brightline private rail service. Great coaches build to maximize the passenger experience
I like the genesis units maybe go back to the f7s and spd 40s
It’s like buying a real size Ferrari for a go-kart track
It’s 2021 and still they haven’t really been picking up passengers
This all seems so normal. I'm from the UK and take trains every day as my commute.
It's just a segment on a local Philadelphia channel about an upgrade...
At last...
If they used some more wooden panneling similar to the ICE’s and IC’s in germany this can actually be a good product
That seats will be much better then the ICE ones and that without wasting billions of tax money.

The average speed of the current Acela Express is 111 km/h (69 miles/h). Source: Wikipedia.
Lol the slowest trains in Korea outstrip that
RIP Acela Express
It’s nice except the chairs they look ugly as hell, also the ticket isn’t a cheap one so can we dispense with self serve and actually have someone bring stuff to you or have a staffed cafe car
Nice high speed train running on third world track.
Beautiful love you so much mam .I need railway job please
What happened to the Avelia Liberty? I thought that was going to be the new Acela. I’m not against the new Acela but the coaches don’t even match the locomotives. As a railfan I would like exterior correctness too.
This is the Avelia Liberty.
Love the new trains. Hate the company.
amtrak or alstom?
You must take more advantage of european technology to rise 220mph,especially on the rails
Hope the new wagons will stay on rails
Lancelot Lancelot wheels exist
Hudson Valley Railfan Hope so...wing exista also
they need to fix the fucking rails not the cars.
God I agree.
As beautiful the interior is, it’s probably going to be like 200 dollars for a one way ticket Boston to DC.
The new Amtrak train would be better if it had Bi-level coaches, just like in Europe.
These trains will run on the NEC, ok. Needless to say they will be successful. But what about the Midwest, were Amtrak is operating trains which look like they did 60 years ago? Here is the place to invest. Why not such a train between Chicago and Minneapolis, or Kansas City to St Louis? Or from Dallas to Houston?
They said next generation but it honestly looks like last generation compared to Asian and European trains.
Botanical Sage No, it's next generation for USA. They aren't talking about Europe or Asia.
The fact that this is "revolutionary" for America says just how bad the instrastructure is... It's a normal mainline high speed train for any European
well this is the latest line of trains from alstom so they aint wrong
Well this aint Europe pal
I think thats quite awsome for a private company that cant waste 20 bio. tax money on one single line like in Germany.
How high speed is it?
max of 220mph but will be used at 160
@@lizatoft3057 165 at the most because of its tilt features
@@lizatoft3057 No, Amtrak will upgrade tracks which will let it go faster
Well nice train but with out the hight speed tracks over much of the rout all Amtrak can sell is bigger tolets more food and nice seats the jouney times in europe have been cut by hours by building high speed routs this is were the USA has faled to put in the $$$'s
Welp, at least the Brightline remained the most advanced train in USA. Now the Avelia Liberty will be the most advanced in the USA, and Brightline second.
Now if you can just keep the train on the rails

We aint your damn clones. We dont have to be like you stupid ass people
That horn has to go, but other than that it looks pretty nice
How did they manage to keep the design in the 90s? Unbelievable. What planet do these people live in everyday that makes them think these designs aren’t dated?
idk why they always say "the trains will be a much smoother ride". The ride quality is only as good as the rail and wheels train utilizes. consider the cheapest way for Amtrak to get new wheels would be to remove the worn out wheel assembly from one train, refurbish it for a 10th the price of a new assembly and smack on the next train. Secondly have you ridden on Amtrak rails? they arent the smoothest in the country. the trains feel like they will fall off them when they go over a switch and more then 40mph. hell amtraks rails are so bad the maximum most trains can go over a crossover is like 40mph. so they go from a fast 125mph cruising speed and get a limited clear BOOM 40mph baby. Higspeed rail at its finest. trains in Europe can cross tracks at like 210mph with no problem. Also who are kidding here? those trains were built in China and only the interior decor was installed in US. TWO Years later the train is collecting dust at a disused siding in Wilmington because the passenger ridership plumbeted and the new train is no longer needed lol."75% more capacity" on a train that 95% EMPTY lol. How many people will be on the train from WAS to Boston at maximum? 25? on a train that holds hundreds? the heck if im going to sit that close to someone for hours on end.
The real super high speed trains are underground already.
Light years behind European countries........
I don’t think this reporter can talk any faster lol I could hardly keep up
They need to straighten the steam era curves.
Paul Morissette These days, every milimeter of the earth is owned by someone. For them to straighten tight curves, that involves lots of money for relocating the property, getting new materials, etc.
@@realMrHudson I know that. The work still needs to be done. The sooner the better.
Une entreprise Française les gars !
we don’t need new trains we need infrastructure we need independent high speed rail tracks like the japanese and the chinese. or enjoy your average 70mph ride on the NEC and sharing tracks with freights. sadly that’ll never happen in a million years. if you want to ride high speed trains go somewhere else
What?
Isnt the top speed of the current acela 150mph?
If it runs on the same infrastructure what's the point? There's not a point in the NE corridor where Acela Express can run at 186 mph which is the main competition factor against the car or planes. Heck you can forget it running at 200mph like in europe or 220mph like in china.

This ist truly bullshitt. But I've didn't expect something else from you. Stupid Troll
All brought to you by ALSTOM, a foreign company building railcars for the US. Why a foreign company? Because the premier American builders of passenger rail cars are gone. Because Budd and ACF and St Louis Car and Pullman-Standard and Pressed Steel Car are gone. Ain't "globalization" great?
You'd have a point if the trains were built overseas, but they are entirely built in New York soooo
All 28 of these new trains are being built here in America.
Cats01 Budd was bought by Thyssenkrupp in the 70s and had its chassis operations sold to Martinrea before filing for bankruptcy in 2014. St Louis Car Company went defunct in the mid-70s. Pullman folded in the late 60s because it couldn’t operate like it used to in a world becoming dominated by airlines. ACF still technically exists, and Pressed Steel was a British company that got folded into British Leyland, which itself went bankrupt, was nationalized, and then was restructured - but could not recover.
None of this has to do with globalization.
Yes, globalization is great. It brought us efficiency and cheaper products.
@@synesthesia101 What efficiency??? Do you not know what it means? It's the ability to do things well, successfully, and without waste. There's a lot of waste that comes from globalization. The economy's enemy is efficiency, sustainability, and preservation. It's all about inefficiency, infinite growth, and consumption. For things that come in abundance it sure is kept artificially scarce. Instead of having cheaper products and expensive products, why not free products?
I love the trains because they're built by a very innovative private company. I hate the company using the trains because of their bureaucracy and failure to innovate.
