Doing this in January for my 40th birthday dinner. I figure it's the perfect way to start my midlife crisis (lol). Got the whole dinner planned - Porterhouse steak (medrare, with some nice char), garlic mushrooms, baked potato with sourcream and chives, fresh brocoli (I do like my veggies too). And homemade New York Cheesecake for desert.
If I survive the ensuing food coma, I'll let you all know how it goes...

Sorry for the late update - I went to my doctor a few weeks ago for some blood tests since I've lost a lot of weight over the last year and didn't know why. Blood test didn't show any disease, but it did show me being very anemic. I'm actually getting a transfusion today, and I had an iron infusion on Sunday and another one scheduled for next Sunday. Funny thing is, I didn't feel anything fr this anemia...I actually haven't felt better in my life! Weird...

I learned: thick pan, peanut oil, cover steak w seasoning, tip pan for searing sides, 3 minutes each side, then baste a hundred times. Put on spoon and rest half the cook time. Drizzle goods on top. Cut off bone and slice for serving. All learned today! (Rusty cook here) ❤️🤍💙

I generally cook steak in the same manner that made sense to me but, Sonny you polished the technique to a very understandable level.
I used rosemary and garlic in my salt had no lemon. I basted with Vidalia onion and brazilian oregano. This palm size pungent oregano grows like weeds around my house and is rather meaty so it works rather well.
While the steak was resting I took the basting veggies and set aside. In the same pan I put in the oil butter sauce and sautéed fresh green beans till al dente. Sliced and plated the steak with green beans in X pattern by the meat. This is my stress relief and Sonny you are correct there is nothing better than a perfectly cooked steak. Thanks.

If there is one thing I like better than a man who loves his food, it's a man who loves his cooking! I happen to have 2 porterhouses in the fridge. Need I say more? :)

Made the porterhouse steaks following your recipe and my fiance said 'This is delicious!'. He never says anything is 'delicious'. So thank you. Will do it your way from now on!

Looks wonderful. Some great tips shared here especially with the basting. I would have to say personally this is overcooked. I like mine close to blue.

So for a few days I’ve been craving a nice style do to a xBoxOne Buddy that lives in VA (Mr.Trollm8). Anyway so I set out to BJ’s in my area and I found me a nice set of Three Porterhouse Steaks that we’re just packaged for sale. I wanted to make sure I do it correct cause I honestly never cook a Porterhouse before. So I came on here and typed in “How To cook a Porterhouse Steak” and your 6 steps caught my eye and let me be one to tell you. I’m very happy I did watched your video.
I did exactly what you said to do, the only thing I did differently being I did not have all the ingredients you added to your steak, I used a Whole Onion chop in 4 pieces garlic Paste, and enough butter. Sheesh GoooooD!!!!!!
Thank you for the 6 steps. It would have definitely not had came out as good if it was not for your set by set video. I’m so glad I pick up the package of three. Having it tonight again.

It really is a great method to cook steak grilling is just so dry so many times but cooking in the pan like this and basting is just another level I get a better result than most steak houses

The porterhouse cut, was the ONLY cut my family ever bought when I was growing up. It’s a rather EXPENSIVE cut though… So we didn’t eat it all the time. It was considered more of a treat than anything else. But I sure do LOVE a good steak dinner! And the PORTERHOUSE is the PINNACLE!! One of the best! 😋
