What a small world. I just happened to be watching this :-) Every once in a while people that are not into gaming ask me what do I do for a living, and what games did I make. It's always an awkward situation when I have to explain what a Metroid is. I usually lose them at the "people thought that robot thing was a man..." part. Now, I can keep a link to this video at hand and just hand it over. You told the story of my project better than I could have ever had. It's always humbling to hear AM2R mentioned among the big boys, specially now that we're all eager to play Metroid 5. Thank you so much for this awesome video, and for the kind words! Cheers!
Holy cow! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch my video! I'm awe struck, you're an inspiration, and your words have made my week. Best regards!
Game, many thanks. Much Happy. Seriously, AM2R is just amazing, and the additions to the game feel completely natural. The mech bosses fit perfectly as a way to show the Chozo's technological superiority too. The foreshadowing it makes for SM and M:F even make it feel like it should be a real game. It was definitely better than that 10 second cutscene at the end of M2: Samus Returns, which only foreshadows the X and nothing else that might have been in SM fusion. Also, Ori and the Will of the Wisps was amazing! The levels were fun to explore (and sometimes try to sequence break), and it all felt like it was a proper journey. It's one of the only 2 games to ever make me cry, the first of which was Ori and the Blind Forest
Yoooo!!! Is milton!!!! Dude thank you so much for making this game! It has been absolutely incredible to play it. I personally feel like it is THE definitive way to play metroid 2. When it first came out I legitimately couldn't stop playing it. That's how good it was. I even tried practicing speedrunning it at some point but alas life got in the way and I couldn't keep up. Thank you so much for making such an incredible piece of media. Also milton, tell them it's the orange suit person from smash bros
Milton a.k.a DoctorM64 is such a genius and also a great person. When I asked him about the music production process, he invited me to a Skype session, showed me everything including his modeling process he learned from disney animations and shared the whole creation story which started in an underbooked recording studio. I really hope his career is at a place where he finds true fulfillment.
@@Denizozzzy003 It gets even more funny. I heard he got a job as a level designer somewhere, purchased both ori games, and just later found out it was actually the second ori game he worked on.
Having played Samus Returns myself, I'm rather amused by the fact I recognize some of the landmarks and how both this and Samus Returns both have a boss with a circular part that fires lasers. XD I played both games (though I haven't been able to finish AM2R yet due to personal life-related things), and honestly? I just enjoy seeing how two different teams tackle a remake of the same game. I think both played an important role in the leadup to Dread.
finally someone mentions how well the one button press for the morph ball is one of the best evolutions of the Metroid controls! I found myself using the morph ball all the time for boss, dodging, platforming and all sorts. It made the morph ball feel like an upgrade rather than just the usual just use in certain points and not much outside of that. Great review, really enjoyed it!
I've never 100% any game in my life up until last month when I 100% AM2R. Like I genuinely am never a completionist, but AM2R was the one exception. Such an unforgettable fan letter to this franchise!
I started with Zero Mission in July this year and played AM2R right after that on my phone (using a Playstation 4 controller, of course). It was my second Metroid game and I didn't find it that hard. After that I played Super Metroid 3 weeks ago. Now after having played all of those + Metroid Fusion last week I'm really hyped waiting for Dread.
It’s sad that Nintendo feels forced to lash out at such passion fan projects; but the US Copyright system is partially to blame. Due to the layers of lobbying by Disney to both protect their IP and acquire new IP for free; Nintendo feels their hands are tied. Any fan project that rises to the level of notoriety that AM2R did is doomed to meet the same fate. Basically if a copyright holder can be proven to be aware of the existence of such “unauthorized” projects like a fan game without taking steps to stop it; another company can then make anything they want with the IP and even take control of the property using the claim of abandonment as grounds and the existence of the fan project as all the basis they need to acquire it.
I am watching this and thank you for enjoying the improvements. It actually hit me in the feels when you mentioned the baby Metroid sequence. I made it a priority to match SM as close as possible.
Bro, what a perfect review! AM2R is also my favorite 2D Metroid game :D never imagined I would get to one of these that I could 95% agree with - Best controls in the series - Outstanding energetic soundtrack - Smooth and speed greatly achieved - Physics and techniques that I legit miss when I play other metroids - The visuals and colors feel so natural and polished - Samus' size being perfect in kind of the world she is in (and for reacting times too) - The use of the items was totally genius - New areas to explore that weren't there in the original game - Many ways to play the game thanks to new updates (try out AM2Random, it will do more than you think) - A Fusion mode & mod support? the thing that you need and you didn't know lmao - Enemies are fair and have interesting patterns - Environmental story just like good ol metroid :D - The puzzles and traps would make papyrus cry in joy - Metroid battles are way better but man...they are annoyingly dangerous XD (not a bad thing) huh....yeah after playing it several times....let's say 7? XD The new bosses never get old for me, I really like them to be bullet helly, full of phases and attacks to avoid every time...which is our difference on opinions but humm yeah! thanks for making this video! It was very well made, informative and agreeable :P
The Game Boy Color image is taken from Return of Samus. The Game Boy Color had a custom palette for Return Of Samus built into it's firmware. This is the only game that has a special palette built into the Game Boy Color.
I don’t remember this having that fusion tie in at the end originally, must’ve been an add on later on. I do remember the room outside the GFS Thoth from the fusion intro!
Ive been casually enjoying the GBA Metroid games for a few years now but AM2R was the first to really hook me, to the point where I finally took the time to learn how to shinespark and 100%ed it because even after beating it on easy I wanted more, and now I've managed to 100% fusion mode This game has become my favourite in the series, and honestly one of my all time favourite video games
Fans have created the Multitroid mode (playing with several people) for this game... and one of its configurations is having certain players be Fusion Samus... while the others are SA-Xs
AM2R is the best Metroid game and I’ll proudly die on that hill. Best soundtrack. Best gameplay. Best exploration and atmosphere. Best story. Best Metroid
Great job on the video man. I've still yet to beat AM2R, I'm not a big PC gamer, but I think I got up to where you blow up the reactor and I enjoyed every minute of it up to that point. I'll need to go back and finish it soon.
I'm not much of a PC gamer either (kind of hard when I don't technically have one haha). But trust me, you won't regret revisiting the game. Hope you get more enjoyment out of it!
@@PGReviews_ Do you know about the Fusion difficulty? also, as a nod to SM and Fusion, you can change the style of your suit to match how it was in those games. I think they unlock after beating normal or hard (the suits, that is)
@Dragon G'lant I do know about Fusion difficulty but I plan on mentioning it in the Samus Returns review when I talk about that game's Fusion difficulty. I didn't know about the suits though! AM2R's the game that keeps on giving it seems.
regarding the DMCAs on AM2R. i applaud Nintendo for waiting until the game was finished and widely downloaded before taking it down. they had EVERY opportunity to shut it down during its 10 year dev cycle and didnt. (im aware of the argument that they shouldnt do it in the first place but they legally have to protect their IP. this doesnt excuse their war with game preservation and emulation tho. but im saying im grateful nintendo shut this down well after its completion and havent really doing much with it since)
Did I not comment on this? Shame on me. I definitely remember playing this shortly after it came out. Definitely a terrific experience full of great surprises. The Metroid fights were a bit brutal, but I overcame them. Definitely would recommend it to everyone!
This was my introduction to Metroid 2, and finding out it's sad story was all the more sad by the final kick in the nuts after it's DMCA claim, was Samus Returns. A game, that I have to say, is undoubtedly worse than AM2R (in my opinion). It still is probably one of my favorite Metroid games. Among the S tier giants of Metroid Dread, and Fusion.
Even ignoring the coincidental release of Samus Returns; the US Copyright system is partially to blame here. And that’s such a mess thanks to Disney’s hyper aggressive acquisition of new properties and defense of their existing ones. Long story short; the laws were written with Disney’s lawyers pushing to make fan projects proof of an IP’s abandonment so Disney could acquire them and then take over control of said IP. All they have to do is prove the project (even if it was made non-profit) was large enough that the original IP holder had to know about it. If someone can prove that the original IP owner was aware of such a project, they can effectively claim it was abandoned and take control of the Abandoned IP. It’s actually the legal argument that Disney has used for many of their IP acquisitions over the years.
Great review! I followed this game from about 3 or 4 years before launch and I just so happened to check back in on it like the day before the second DMCA, so I was lucky enough to snag a v1.1 download. Back when it was released, I spent an entire day figuring out how to get wine to work on my MacBook Air so I could play it. Also, I own an M1 Mac now too. Are you using Crossover?
Had a similar experience, I spent almost a whole afternoon trying to get it to work on my old MacBook Air as well. Good times... well, not really, it was a pain haha. No Crossover, just Wine.
I’ve recently heard of this game a few months ago! I’m on mac too & I wish someone could put this on a GBA cart! Metroid 2 DX is a bit better but AM2R looks soo much like zero mission & fusion 🔥 🔥
Dude i understand the struggle of trying to game on an M1 Mac, but im incredibly impressed you got the game running through wine, i had to use porting kit
This is the only Metroid i have yet to play (not AM2R specifically just Metroid 2 in general) and i wish we would get a port off either Samus Returns or why didn't Nintendo decide to publish this game, bc it was fan made? Wish they would learn to embrace fan projects, if AM2R was available on Switch i would buy it in a heartbeat!
You know, this all wouldn't have happened if Metroid Samus Returns was revealed in 2015 (or at the very least, 2016) instead of 2017. At least that way, Federation Force would have been viewed as a harmless spin-off-ception (spin-off of a spin-off series) rather than a spit in the face, and AM2R (if it wasn't cancelled after the official Metroid 2 remake was announced) being taken down might have not stung as much.
I think Nintendo should have reached out and offered to publish their game and pay them for it. It'd be a win-win situation, Nintendo doesn't have to make a new game, and both of them make money. But no, they have to be stupid and shut down a fan project
My first playthrough of the game was also on a Mac but on an Intel based one back when the game released. I also ran it through wine and I don't remember having those issues
@novustalks7525 If you don't like talking about fan games you're free to ignore videos about them. You can't tell others what they're allowed or not allowed to talk about
Look for the "AM2R 1.5.2 for Mac" post on the AM2R subreddit. That will have everything you need, from files to instructions on how to set it up. It's tricky, but with enough patience you can get it running. If you have an Android phone the game was also ported to that.
2:43 HAHAHAHAHAHA HELL YEAH! It was one the biggest insults I've ever seen to fans of something... and they could have easily avoided it by showing they were also working in Samus Returns or something! 3:08 Indeed, this was not a Metroid game... IT WAS AN IMPOSTOR! I mean, come on! I know people have joked about Samus being a Power Ranger but that did not mean we wanted a team of generic idiots in colors for the franchise! 4:45 I remember having such a smile when I saw that for the first time... almost cried when I finished the game. 7:58 Yeah, calling it a fan game does not make justice to what this beautiful birthday present for Samus is... it's a true Metroid game. 10:01 At least these soldiers were competent enough to hold their own until the Metroid transformed into a Omega lol Gotta love how you can play this in a phone, with my Red Knight Retractable Controller it feels as good as any portable console. The music is beautiful, I still feel the soundtrack is too environmental for me to absolutely love it but it works very well. 21:35 Oh yeah, it was nice seeing a escape sequence in a game that originally did not have it even if it is kind of a cutscene. 21:45 it's also the most Alien-like moment I've seen in the franchise. The reference was beautiful. 24:22: Legendary stuff. 25:25 I knew you would say that lol. 25:48 Those two things were like getting your favorite candy after eating an entire cake that was cooked to make you feel like you were in heaven lol.
RIP. Sick intro. liking it. Guys didnt enjoyed Other M? I remembered liking it but nothing more, it was just a 2D metroid not as great as Prime trilogy.
Other M is generally seen as the unwanted child of the Metroid series. Who knows, maybe I'll make a video about it in the future explaining why I and so many others don't like it. I recommend looking into it if you're interested.
@Multi Topic Talk That is on my list of video ideas, no doubt. I'd like to cover them when we get a release date for Prime 4 so I can do a similar "Road To" series like I did with the 2D games. They definitely deserve their own videos. But who knows, I may decide to look at them sooner than I think.
I'm noding my head like I was a fan back in 2016 (such a long time ago ik) but honestly my first metroid game was wants returns for the 3ds aand I'm pretty sure it was in 2020
I was following AM2R for much of its life cycle before its release. Played it on its release day with a Pokken Tournament Wii U USB controller and finished it that weekend and replayed it when version 1.1 was released. I did the same with Metroid Samus Returns on a limited edition Metroid 3DS. Metroid 2 was my first metroid game, I have heavy nostaligia for it. AM2R lifted it, MSR 3DS ruined it. AM2R > Metroid Samus Returns 3DS No question.
I know it's wildly unpopular to say, but...Other M wasn't THAAAAAAAT bad. It's far from perfect and I can understand most of the criticisms, but actual gameplay was fine. I certainly prefer 3rd person to 1st person.
Friends can u guys tell me how to download the game plz

I am a huge Metroid fan. I don't care what Nintneod or others say. But for me, AM2R counts as an official Metroid game. It delivered more than Nintendo ever will.
To me, both this one and the one Nintendo wrongly decided to release on a fucking portable are good experiences and both should be played. I still prefer this one though, simply because there are no gimmicks to the playstyle while anything Nintendo puts on any console that has some sort of motion sensor you need to do some crazy shit just to shoot a missile. xD
I'd totally be down now if Nintendo released it on the Switch eShop for like $30 and added online. Now that we're actually getting other Metroid games.
I still don't understand why Japan doesn't like this franchise... Okay, Other M is a good excuse, but the series was NEVER popular in Japan, and I don't get the distaste. I'm the kind of weirdo that doesn't like the first Prime game, (the game takes longer than I'd like to just beat for a Metroid game, and completion shouldn't be as much of a pain in the ass in my opinion) but I still think the series shouldn't be considered as niche as fucking Hitman. It's not that hard to understand; you are dropped in a new world that's been unexplored, until now, you find upgrades to make yourself more badass and capable of exploring said world, and you are intended to play the game over and over as getting better times will reward players with better endings. The sole concept is fun and, for the most part, the games are greatly designed. Get your heads on straight Japan.
Well I can disagree with one thing it just doesn't sound like anything from the Prime games cuz I played them but I'm not a fan of them and I do hate them kind of in the sense I can still agree that am2rit is amazing music and the best soundtrack in all of the Metroid series I can agree also am2r also adopted from Fusion as well because it also has the background when your first enter on the planet sr388 all the Sprites and stuff is from Fusion especially the background sky and everything I think they did a perfect job in a wonderful job and I think it's one of the most perfect remake ever made. Darn Nintendo for trying to take it down luckily they failed. What's the what's the point of liking a game if you can't express your love for it and that's what am2r is there is one thing I have nitpicked with about am2r's new update which changed the color of the bombs I like the greenish color to it I didn't like the blue and it's just really takes away from the other 2D metroids. That's why I play the older updates for that very reason I like everything to be perfect not just one thing singled out and they don't even give you like a section to change it or nothing. To me it's almost more Canon than to Metroid Fusion then Nintendo's official remake version because that it doesn't create those plot holes in it shows a flourish beautiful world like Fusion it took almost with the complete same suit design as Fusion and Super Metroid .did and even went out of the way to go beyond that and expanded on SR388 and it's day evening and night just makes it like a paradise. not some devastated plant that looks like it just came out of apocalyptic event from Samus return Nintendo's official remake did which created so many plot holes it really kind of ruins the series. They really overdid it and I honestly don't like Nintendo's official version. I don't consider as much Canon as much as I consider it as just an just another remake. while am2r stays true to the cannon even though there's some parts of it that doesn't which I disagree with but they're so small and so few that it's not really that not much to mention. It's so hard to express freedom of expression when they keep slapping you with copyrights it's kind of disgusting but then big tech companies can do it all the time when they want to and they never get slept with such a fine if the United States is going to hold its promises to its people and their views and they need to lessen on the copyright law because it's just used to take advantage and take away our freedom to do anything I mean don't get me wrong I'm not against all the copyright law but I'm also against it for other various reasons when it doesn't call for it. And it really fringes on the freedom of speech or freedom of expression.
I do agree with some of the things you said and about copyright thing but you also gotta think that Japan has their own different rules about copyright which sucks as well.
I think I would have enjoyed the game a lot more if I had gone with normal difficulty. Going with hard felt way too punishing, especially when enemies kind of just hang around inside of you after damaging you. The tester is probably my favorite boss, but the normal metroids definitely got tedious and I think that's also at least in part because of the difficulty.
Yeah, I don't reccomend starting this game on hard. If you're not familiar with them from normal mode the metroids can be pretty frustrating on hard mode.
You said RIP in piece....that is as cringe as saying ATM machine or PIN number. REST IN PEACE IN PEACE AUTOMATIC TELLER MACHINE MACHINE PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION NUMBER NUMBER don’t do this again for the sake of all that is good and right.
I've said it somewhere else that Metroid is like American movies. In that if it doesn't do well in the home country (i.e. Japan with Metroid). Then it's either not that big of a deal or a flop no matter how well it does when it releases in the rest of the world.
Prime 3 paved the way for Other M. Prime 3 was also shit, but people have poor taste. Nintendo gave us more of what made Prime 3 bad because the audience told them that's what they wanted. And people have the audacity to hate on Other M. The audience caused Other M.
Not really, Prime 3 Corruption has its falts but it's still a good game. Other M has more flaws and miss translation errors. I would say somethings that happens in Other M is cannon but I don't consider it being full cannon. One thing that I like about Other M is fighting enemies that it gets the job done but most of the story and other parts sucks IMHO.
My only question is, why was it called Another Metroid 2 remake? There was no other Metroid 2 remake by Nintendo or anyone else at all. Come now and we have Samus Returns. I’m one of the few who had never heard of AM2R. I was a Metroid fan and yeah it sucked throughout all those years but I’ll be honest and say Samus Returns is what really ignited me to be a more active fan of the Metroid series and got me to finish every Metroid game with the exception of the Prime games (thank God for the remaster we have in 2023) and Other M (but like that doesn’t exist). The prime games I never got a chance to play and emulating games is just such a hassle to me but I always wanted to play them. Anyways, I started seeing multiple videoed of games comparing Samus Returns to AM2R. I still haven’t played it and I didn’t have a PC at the time and while I do now I just don’t want to go back to not because it’s bad to me I just I don’t know it seemed like a hassle to get. Samus Returns was supposedly hard but honestly, get good, the game wasn’t hard and I had a lot of fun in it. With the Name “Another Metroid 2 Remake” implies it’s just another one. No fancy title and honestly sometimes less is more but it doesn’t make sense when there was no other Metroid 2 remake. Now that Samus Returns is out, it makes it seem like AM2R came AFTER SR and not before like how I thought until I looked at the history. I also hear the complaint about Samus returns having the chozo locks where you have to get Metroid DNA to continue the game and how that’s stupid but Metroid Prime literally had the exact same thing with the Artifacts you have to find to finish the game with its last boss and that game is considered one of the best ones. Metroid 2 the whole purpose is to hunt metroids and it makes sense the chozo requires a few in order to progress to more and more. The Chozo are smart so if you can handle a few, you can continue and work towards it. In Prime, it’s just a giant lock and it’s scattered throughout the entire Prime map which I hear has a lot of back tracking issues and a lot of walking back and forth because the elevators aren’t that well placed according to people. Idk, I enjoyed SR and one day maybe I’ll try AM2R it’s just the name that was weird to me nothing negative towards the actual game
I think it was called that because, back when it was 1st started, there were a few people trying to remake it, but they all gradually fell off and AM2R ended up being the only 1 with significant development behind it. At that point I think he just kept the name partly due to not having anything better to call it. 😅
I must say AM2R’s controls do have one flaw that well perhaps not major, does get extremely annoying You do not keep your momentum after landing from a spin jump
I am sorry, but the hate for Federation Force is simply uncalled for and the fans are 100% in the wrong for complaining. It's a good co-op game and you do'nt compalin that a spin-off game is not a main-line game. that's what Spin-off are for. No the lack of other metroid games isnot a valid reason to complain, when a good game can be done, you do'nt don't do that game cause there hasn't been a mainline in a while, that's a stupid reason to not make a game. This is a reaction the fans still need to apologise for.
That whole petition to cancel the game back when it was announced? Yeah, that was ridiculous. But ignoring that and other extreme examples, people had every right to feel disappointed. It had been 5 years since that last mainline Metroid game and 8 years since the last one that was universally liked. If Nintendo had just told us they were working on Samus Returns or presented Federation Force as a new IP, the reaction to FF wouldn't have been nearly as bad. But they didn't. They knew fans wanted a real Metroid game, so the announcement came off as ignorant and tone-deaf which I think is what really upset people. And I've never played FF but I believe those who have and say that it's quite a fun co-op experience. I'd like to try it out someday.
It’s not out of place at all. We see this in The Prime games, Super Metroid, and Fusion. And with the original MII having lore that involves teams going to SR388 with the Federation losing contact shortly after, it’s not surprising there are remains of Federation troopers and researchers.
Not really, in the OG manual that you get when you buy the game it say that GF sent in scientist/researchers to check out SR388 but they never came back so GF sent their troops to investigate on what happened but they lost communication on them. So they gave Samus to find out what happened to them and kill all the Metroids. Now since when you play the OG or the remake you don't know what happens to them in game while AM2R shows what happens to them which doesn't become like a plot hole/never gets bought up again in the games.
so metroid dread is just a fan game created by the same developer as AM2R, so why should you be happy if it's an unofficial sequel? Metroid fans waiting for the Metroid fusion sequel and Nintendo hasn't done it after 19 years, who are now making unofficial metroid sequels
While I definitely appreciate the Marvel of what this man accomplished, I do think you laid it on a bit thick. This game feels amateur compared to official games in level and puzzle design. It's definitely not the best looking, either.
I don't really agree on what you said. Dr.m64 took him and few other ppl roughly 10 years to make, fixing things, making it work smoothly, tester to find any mistakes. For pixels his team used some from Metroid Zero Mission and Fusion while also making their own stuff. I think and many others in the community think this one of the best looking 2D Metroids out there.
Your narrative is based on lies, dude. Nintendo did not respond to what you fans are protesting especially that fan remake. Samus Returns remake on 3DS has been in development way before. You all are just not patient. Dread came out at the best time possible. It would be a disaster if it came out sooner & it wouldn’t be ready anyways. Other M is still a great game, and we are still getting Prime 4. Nobody has a reason for complaining about any fresh spins in between like Federation Force. You all have a whole backlog of to-do games. Play other games you love while you wait for the next 2D Metroid.
A fan game shouldn't be disregarded just because it's a fan game, especially if it's as high quality and respectful to the IP as AM2R. I planned on covering it alongside the official games the moment I started this series.
If you don't like talking about fan games you're free to ignore videos about them. You can't tell others what they're allowed or not allowed to talk about
What a small world. I just happened to be watching this :-)

I usually lose them at the "people thought that robot thing was a man..." part.

AM2R is also my favorite 2D Metroid game :D never imagined I would get to one of these that I could 95% agree with
- Best controls in the series
- Outstanding energetic soundtrack
- Smooth and speed greatly achieved
- Physics and techniques that I legit miss when I play other metroids
- The visuals and colors feel so natural and polished
- Samus' size being perfect in kind of the world she is in (and for reacting times too)
- The use of the items was totally genius
- New areas to explore that weren't there in the original game
- Many ways to play the game thanks to new updates (try out AM2Random, it will do more than you think)
- A Fusion mode & mod support? the thing that you need and you didn't know lmao
- Enemies are fair and have interesting patterns
- Environmental story just like good ol metroid :D
- The puzzles and traps would make papyrus cry in joy
- Metroid battles are way better but man...they are annoyingly dangerous XD (not a bad thing)
huh....yeah after playing it several times....let's say 7? XD
The new bosses never get old for me, I really like them to be bullet helly, full of phases and attacks to avoid every time...which is our difference on opinions but humm yeah! thanks for making this video! It was very well made, informative and agreeable :P
20:23 the ancient guardian has 4 attacks actually. Green orange purple and blue attacks just so you know!!
Jump over orange, duck for purple, stay in the middle for green, and stay on the sides for blue!
Fans have been updating it in secret. 🤫
Finished it a week ago, this made me so happy. A love letter and a passionate project.
Ive been casually enjoying the GBA Metroid games for a few years now but AM2R was the first to really hook me, to the point where I finally took the time to learn how to shinespark and 100%ed it because even after beating it on easy I wanted more, and now I've managed to 100% fusion mode
This game has become my favourite in the series, and honestly one of my all time favourite video games
Will of the Wisps is a fantastic game, the quality of world design in it is astounding. Makes sense Dr M was a piece of the team
AM2R is a masterpiece
Awesome! I was waiting for this! Looking forward to Other M and Samus Returns Remake!!
Other M probably won't happen for a while haha. Look out for the Samus Returns video in the next few weeks though!
@10:00 am I the only one who got the joke that those guys are the Federation Force getting slaughtered?
regarding the DMCAs on AM2R. i applaud Nintendo for waiting until the game was finished and widely downloaded before taking it down. they had EVERY opportunity to shut it down during its 10 year dev cycle and didnt. (im aware of the argument that they shouldnt do it in the first place but they legally have to protect their IP. this doesnt excuse their war with game preservation and emulation tho. but im saying im grateful nintendo shut this down well after its completion and havent really doing much with it since)
This video doesn't need comments. You nailed this one on the head. Without favorites or nostalgia this is undoubtedly the best metroid game.
no, keep commenting. *we must feed the algorithm*
Welp I think dread is giving my opinion a run for its money.....
Did I not comment on this? Shame on me.
I definitely remember playing this shortly after it came out. Definitely a terrific experience full of great surprises. The Metroid fights were a bit brutal, but I overcame them.
Definitely would recommend it to everyone!
my favorite song is Ancient Power on am2r
2:39 so true
7:01 NO FUCKING WAY AN IRISHMAN REFERENCE?????
Just watched all your Metroid videos. Good stuff. You should do the Prime games at some point.
I definitely will sometime in the future.
@@MungkaeX this gives me a very oh so visceral anger, it just makes me hate that accursed mouse even more.
Nah the ost in metroid 2 was really good, the main theme is amazing and all the weird beeps and boops create one hell of an atmosphere.
I was summoned by the algorithm. And for once, it told me to watch something I actually liked.
I just beat AM2R.. I'm obsessed and inspired! 💯
Fusion is my favorite and AM2R is my second favorite. Gameplay purly though, its AM2R.
As of now I play AM2R on my modded ps4 a must get.😮😮😮😅
I love your other Metroid reviews, this one is going to be great to watch while I’m enjoying my morning coffee ☕️ ✌️
One more to go before the Dread overtakes us all! :P
Almost there!
@@PGReviews_ I can hardly wait!!! XO
My first playthrough of the game was also on a Mac but on an Intel based one back when the game released. I also ran it through wine and I don't remember having those issues

I really want to play this game but I own a Mac, I'm not computer savvy whatsoever, and I have no idea how to find the file.
10:01 At least these soldiers were competent enough to hold their own until the Metroid transformed into a Omega lol
Gotta love how you can play this in a phone, with my Red Knight Retractable Controller it feels as good as any portable console.

@@PGReviews_ cant wait for it. BTW will you cover Prime trilogy? i haven't found a prime centric video on your channel?
@Multi Topic Talk That is on my list of video ideas, no doubt. I'd like to cover them when we get a release date for Prime 4 so I can do a similar "Road To" series like I did with the 2D games. They definitely deserve their own videos. But who knows, I may decide to look at them sooner than I think.
I'm noding my head like I was a fan back in 2016 (such a long time ago ik) but honestly my first metroid game was wants returns for the 3ds aand I'm pretty sure it was in 2020

By the way, I wanted to ask, what do you think of the Super Metroid MSU-1 I mentioned to you? pretty awesome, right?
Freaking glorious, thanks for bringing it to my attention!
Great video! Lets go!!!
AM2R > Metroid Samus Returns 3DS
No question.
Just like you my favorite is Zero Mission but sometimes I have a very hard time deciding between the two. This game really is that good.
I know it's wildly unpopular to say, but...Other M wasn't THAAAAAAAT bad. It's far from perfect and I can understand most of the criticisms, but actual gameplay was fine. I certainly prefer 3rd person to 1st person.
Errr... I had a mac and I could download the AM2R osx app the day it came out. Were you stoned?
I wish Nintendo would cut a check to dr m64 and put this on the switch

I am a huge Metroid fan. I don't care what Nintneod or others say. But for me, AM2R counts as an official Metroid game.
It delivered more than Nintendo ever will.
How does one play AM2R?
"AM2R download" in Google Search should point you in the right direction :)
To me, both this one and the one Nintendo wrongly decided to release on a fucking portable are good experiences and both should be played. I still prefer this one though, simply because there are no gimmicks to the playstyle while anything Nintendo puts on any console that has some sort of motion sensor you need to do some crazy shit just to shoot a missile. xD

I wish Dread had the Moonwalk...
Remember guys, it is always morally correct to pirate Nintendo games.
Once I got over my butthurt, I actually really liked federation force!
Im playing the Android Version of AM2R at the Moment with my GPD XD Plus. Holy Sh#t. is this Game good.
Holy shit* butt yaes i do agree UwU
How do you have less than 500 subscribers
I think I would have enjoyed the game a lot more if I had gone with normal difficulty. Going with hard felt way too punishing, especially when enemies kind of just hang around inside of you after damaging you. The tester is probably my favorite boss, but the normal metroids definitely got tedious and I think that's also at least in part because of the difficulty.
Yeah, I don't reccomend starting this game on hard. If you're not familiar with them from normal mode the metroids can be pretty frustrating on hard mode.

I've said it somewhere else that Metroid is like American movies. In that if it doesn't do well in the home country (i.e. Japan with Metroid). Then it's either not that big of a deal or a flop no matter how well it does when it releases in the rest of the world.
AM2R is one hell of a remake, but there's just something so unique to the original that no remake could ever achieve.
I think it was called that because, back when it was 1st started, there were a few people trying to remake it,
but they all gradually fell off and AM2R ended up being the only 1 with significant development behind it.
At that point I think he just kept the name partly due to not having anything better to call it. 😅
I must say AM2R’s controls do have one flaw that well perhaps not major, does get extremely annoying
You do not keep your momentum after landing from a spin jump
Great video but the occurrences of humans being slaughtered are just out of place, cringy. Would be cool to have them removed
AM2R is so bloody overrated.
Nah, way better than Samus Returns.
@tetermc of course you hate that game.
so metroid dread is just a fan game created by the same developer as AM2R, so why should you be happy if it's an unofficial sequel? Metroid fans waiting for the Metroid fusion sequel and Nintendo hasn't done it after 19 years, who are now making unofficial metroid sequels
What are you talking about? Mercury Steam is making Dread, alongside Nintendo.
Play other games you love while you wait for the next 2D Metroid.
bro, you sound so monotone. Put some life and energy into your voice.
Hater.
It's a fan game. It shouldn't be given focus In a list about official games
It’s remaking a real game so I think it has merit being talked about, especially considering it’s caliber
@@arieb7589 it's a fan game so it's irrelevant
A fan game shouldn't be disregarded just because it's a fan game, especially if it's as high quality and respectful to the IP as AM2R. I planned on covering it alongside the official games the moment I started this series.
