It was a one time last minute deal. Mike Stefanik was supposed to drive it but couldn't get there for some reason so they called Billy. It was one of the best moves we ever saw to get by Siscone and Reggie. It was right in front of us. Billy was great on dirt or asphalt. One of the best ever. Still holds the fastest lap on a one mile track in the Zemco No. 1 Sprint Car at Syracuse.
I remember this race vividly. I wasn't a huge fan of Billy Pauch at the time - probably because my best friend was kin to Doug Hoffman and a huge fan. But after that great run from the back to the front and the win against the ,best asphalt mod drivers I had no choice but to become a fan of that awesome driver.
Anymore Flemington footage? Or Asphalt New Egypt/Pleasantville ?? There were a few Nazareth modified races posted but there no longer up anymore. With Teddy and JBIII
WOW I grew up watching modifieds and cheering for the 44 team before the tour even existed. I left for the Marines in 92 and I had NO IDEA Billy Pauch ever drove that car. Did he drive it for a whole season after this or was this a 1 time deal for him?
I miss that place 💔
PAUCH IS THE MAN !!!! FROM LAST ROW

No if they brought the dirt back they would have brought the FANS BACK
If Pauch ran more asphalt races at Flemington. He would have brought the crowd back. Flemington speed way might still exist today.
Doubt it. The asphalt caused more accidents, and the open-wheeled modified design is just not suited for a paved track.

Just another page in the book of the Legendary Billy The Kid

Billy just drove that race . I believe he was called from his home and asked to drive that morning.
In an earlier era Pauch would've gotten a chance at an Indy car or NASCAR ride.
You should add "Flemington" to title or description.
Fresh tires and NO2. Lol. Just kidding
Oh I saw that they said there was no pictures or video of it
