@@TT-qc2mu Frank asked him to dispatch the cow with a sledgehammer. A gun is only mentioned when Jake recommends using a gun that covers the cow's brain with metal, but Frank makes a facetious reference to how he and his friends are "struggling in the dirt." In my opinion, this part of the show is the most sinister and shows how Frank is heartless when it comes to killing.

I absolutely loved the series, but one plot hole stands out - They could have popped Oswald on day one, then immediately go back to the future. If JFK lived, they know Oswald was the only gunman. If JFK was killed anyway, just go back in time again to “reset” the mistaken hit job. Simple as pie.

Sarah Gadon killed it as Sadie. I've seen her in other roles (Dracula Untold) and she was very good there. In 11.22.63 she embodied the character King had written. I've read the book twice, listened to the Audio book three times. Best ending of any King story.

Although I was reading King in the 80s while in elementary school, I got to a point where everything he does is too predictable. He always has great ideas, but I find that he just can't get the idea out in such a way that keeps the idea interesting.

  • @AshtonTheMelon

This is the show that, if I can say this quite plainly, revealed to me that some levels of basis are unremovable when it comes to adaptation. I once heard an interview with Dmitry Glukhovsky, the author who wrote the Metro series, who was once asked how he felt about more people experiencing his story through the game adaptations rather than his book. He essentially said that the experience of reading is so intimate that no medium aside from reading could spread that. And people are enjoying his world and story, who cares how it is done.
I watched this series after being enlightened by those words. And yet, my love the book stopped me from truly enjoying it. Hell, the Derry arc being gone completely-while understandable-broke my heart.
I agree with you that this series is fairly good-surprisingly good even. But I think the experience I had reading 11/22/63 dwarfs the entirety of this show.

Totally agree about James Franco’s performance. And I generally like him in most roles (he was fantastic in the Deuce, IMO). But I thought his performance felt amateurish and not believable in so many scenes. It really lacked something throughout the series. Overall, I liked the show and would probably give it a 7 out of 10.
Btw, just wanted to point out again that something’s up with your mic. For the last couple vids there’s been a low bass sound every time you tap on the desk. I never noticed it before so I think it’s something new. Maybe it’s just me. But it’s pretty obvious so I don’t think you can miss it.

Did anyone else ever notice that Sadie's husbands car was the same make, model, year, and color as the one from the movie Christine? A 1958 Plymouth Fury. Basically a Christine cameo. You can see it in Season 1 Episode 5 as Jake is walking up to the house and it's parked outside. Kinda strange that her husband was a nutjob exactly how Arnie was from the movie Christine.

I'm 20 and the only real time I've cried in the past 8-10 years was when my grandfather passed...and when I finished this book. I found myself much more invested in Jake and Sadie's relationship than the plot at some points (lol). The last 20 pages of this book KILLED me. I had a knot in my throat the whole time, and it was the last line in the book that finally broke me. This was an amazing book, and I can't wait to watch the show (but i know it won't be able to live up to what the book did for me).

I'm a long time fan of the channel. I'm also a long time fan of Stephen King. I have not seen the show, but I read the book soon after it came out. I am 70 years old and was 13 when the assassination happened, so I have real world experience about this time in history. Spoiler alert from this point forward. I enjoyed the book very much (The Stand is my all time favorite from Stephen King)......with a big exception the the resolution to the assassination. I have seen Mr King interviewed, and he explained how he came to his conclusion of the events after researching it in depth. Without sounding like a conspiracy nut, I have also done a great deal of research in to the assassination over the years. I am 100% convinced that a conspiracy took place, and that the killing shot was from behind the fence on the grassy knoll. There are far too many things to go in to for a comment here. But, obviously, I was quite disappointed in the resolution of that aspect to the story. Other than that, it was an enjoyable book.

Have yet to read the book but really enjoyed the show. The acting seems to be divisive but I thought the actors did a great job and I really felt for them and the things happening. My only issue is sometimes it felt like it lost focus on what was supposed to be happening and just focused on the B story for too long at times or wouldn't elaborate more on the stuff I wanted to see more of. Regardless I enjoyed the show A BUNCH! Definitely adding the book to my list of things to read.

i mean jake is bothered by the racial divide in some points of the book, there's a whole scene with him looking at the ''black'' side of the restroom and realizing that it's just a ditch and a plank instead of an actual toilette, this same scene is also referenced more than once in the book, he also comments at some point about all of his students being white i believe, and there's a few characters that have very racist comments like Rosette on Mercedes Street, so you can't say that the show "at least acknowledges the existence of racism" because so does the book, but i mean at the same time, the book isn't about racism, so it doesn't need to be at the forefront of his social interactions the whole time

I didn't like how they handled the "time fighting back" aspect in the show. In the book, it's proportional to what is being changed, so when Al was explaining how he couldn't save the little girl from being paralysed even with multiple attempts, it just made Jake stopping JFK's assassination (which seemed easier in the show than in the books) so much more unbelievable.

One question that I had to the book readers as a tv show watcher only, why couldn’t they just kill Lee and go back to the future and see what changed? Why go through all of this just to see if it was him or not? Morally, it wouldn’t matter much to kill him if you could just go back and reset it. This was one of my biggest gripes with the series and I would like to understand if there was a solid reason.

The starting was great, the ending was spectacular, but it was a bit let down towards the middle, especially, after he loses his memory. Should have had least 4 more episodes to show a much detailed version of the book. It felt very hasty leading to the final episode

Watched the show first and pick up the book afterwards. Loved both. Probably one of my favourite endings for a book/tv show ever.

I thought Sadie was the most memorable part of the show. She really seemed like Sadie from the book… definitely helps that she’s gorgeous but still she did an amazing job

Chris Cooper! What's your favorite Chis Cooper movie? I love October Sky; next to American Beauty it may be CC at his most emotionally repressed hard-ass, but there's glimmers of a heart of gold beneath that his son (Jake Gyllenhal) just might be be able to reach _and_ become a sissy-assed rocket scientist.

I just finished watching the show. I actually started watching because of this video so I thought Id come back and leave my thoughts. Ill keep it short.
It is fantastic so long as you dont think too much and just let yourself be carried along by the story. Are there massive gaping plot holes? Sure, its a time travel movie so of course there are. Are there unaddressed issues that they really should have brought up at some point? Yeah, I dont get why we never had a scene with Al in the present at the end of episode 8. Supposedly Jake was only gone for two minutes so where was Al? But none of these questions are in any real way detrimental to my enjoyment of the story. It excelled at bringing me back to a bygone era more so perhaps than any show Ive ever watched and it was a wonderfully tense and engaging look into a fascinating bit of history. 8.5/10

The actress for Sadie was also in season two of Castle Rock, the season she was in was too dark for me but I'd like to hear your thoughts on it.

I always find it hard when they change very important parts in the storylines that don't need changing.
Especially when it doesn't feel necessary for production costs or anything like that. I felt like the story of one of my absolute favourite King (if not THE) was getting butchered.
I stopped after three episodes, two or three years ago. Should I rewatch, knowing I hate shifts in storylines in adaptations?

Sarah Gadon is such a good actress!!! She has solid performances in time period movies like Belle and she was hilarious in Letterkenny.

I read the book, and it definitely wasn’t my favorite King book, but it’s still really good. I think King can write that time period excellently (“It” is my favorite King work because of the kids’ half). I didn’t realize the adaptation was out, I’ll have to watch that!

I recently read the book and absolutely loved it. Went straight into the TV show as soon as I finished it and was honestly so disappointed by the first 2 episodes that I didn't continue. I usually like James Franco but wasn't a big fan of his portrayal of Jake. I have to agree with your criticism here. Second, and what bothered me the most, was how they were shoving the "the past does not want to be changed" all up in my face and then did not stay consistent with it. I get that the show needed more action and wanted to be scarier but I was sooo bothered by this.
But I do value your opinion so I am considering giving it another shot...

I saw the miniseries back near its original release and really liked it. I'd say that it was probably the bit of King media I most liked that I was familiar with at the time (though having read The Dark Tower series, I'd choose that now, I think.)
Franco's performance here really worked for me because I read it as helping to drive home that Jake isn't a hero or some paragon of anything. This isn't a comic book (adaptation) or an epic -- he's just a guy who has an incredible opportunity and tries to do what seems right, even if he's a less-than-exemplary, kind of annoying guy. But I haven't seen Franco in very much, so maybe he's just sticking to a brand that I don't know well enough to be annoyed by.
I'm also very curious if the "Yellow Card Man" (as he's credited) shows up in other King stories either as is or as some more major character whose story is being summarized by his longest appearance in the show/book. I'd be down for an axis of King's multiverse which follows various time travelers and their attempts to change various things or at least exploit the capacity to time travel.

I started watching the series, but it felt rushed. I had the same problem with HBO's Game of Thrones. Streaming services and cable channels both suffer from the tradition of creating shows for the summer and winter breaks of the broadcast networks. These book adaptations can't be done well in so few episodes.

So I saw the show when it first came out and thought it was really good.
I've never really been into books and even now that I have a number of audioboks from a few different authors I really don't have much of a knowledge or even a care for authors and books.
And I generally just can't stand horror. Personally I find it boring and narratively unsatisfying(at least in regards to film and TV never tried and audio book and don't really care to). So naturally despite knowing that Stephen King is a prolific horror author and that he has a number of on screen adaptations I really knew any of the titles his name was attached to.
I while after I saw the show (and basically forgot 90% of it) I came across you talking about how you loved the book so much. So I used an audible credit because at very least if I didn't like it audible has a great return policy. but I found my enjoying it and I wasn't really comparing because I had forgotten so much from the show. Personally I thought the book was just ok I'll probably listen to it again some day once or twice. For me that rates as just alright because I tend to re-watch or re-listen to things I love often. I have seen Star Wars The Clone Wars 8 - 9 times now, the last airbender 4-5 times, Geroge's 6 films a couple hundred times, and so on. Since I opened my audible account in 2017 I've listened to all three of the stormlight archive books 4-5 times now the two kingkiller chronicles 3-4 times skyward 4 times (that is my favourite book ATM), both era's of mistborn 3 times, the Ahsoka novel 3 times, the punch escrow 3 times (not my genre so I found it only ok but Matt Mercer read it so it's automatically better), and Shadow of the Conqueror twice.
There is more but to not go on for a year the point is if I might listen to 11.22.63 again once or twice in my life that honestly means that I find it to be a 3 or 4/10 using Daniel's version of that scale (which I also happen to think is the fairest way to use the scale :P)

Its funny that James Franco comes off that way. To me it seems like he stays James Franco, not the character. I love when i dont see the actor, only the character and with Franco, he does not normally accomplish that.

Loved Chris Cooper in Lone Star a totally underated movie (as in not highly seen). Really enjoyed 11/22/63, as both book and a series. I don't know that is one of my all time favs of King's but it was very good read. I should rewatch the series.
