Amaaazing video. Just wondering what your thoughts are regarding work-life balance. As someone who wants to have kids/a family in the future and actually spend time with them, the hours make me a little anxious. Is there an area of practice that typically isn't super time-intensive? I've heard that litigation hours are brutal :/ This makes me sound so lazy but that's not the case at all, I am genuinely such a hard worker...I just want to have a life outside of work and not have to wait for the weekend to "live". Maybe I'm naive...or delusional lol! Seems like with covid and working from home, there is a little bit of flexibility with how you spend your time though? Anyway, I would appreciate your insights. Thanks for an awesome video.
Hi Tumi Thank you for such a great question. The hours when you start are hectic in whichever area of law you go into and I guess people choose to just sacrifice and give themselves a few years to advance in their career. Usually after a certain level, a lot of people go in house if they want to start a family etc. I do think it’s possible to still stay in practice with a family but I believe you will need a lot of support. I will say that the flexibility that came with Covid showed us all that it is possible to work from home and in some way have a work life balance.

Hi Sakhile. I think this is a personal decision. I’m currently doing my masters part time and I think I wouldn’t have managed if it were full time. So in my view, part time is best because of my demanding job.
Hey babe 🧚🏽♀️I'm currently doing my second year as a law student. Which subjects should I primarily focus on in order to become a commercial lawyer???
Hey Taryl To be honest, I didn’t really do any corporate subjects besides the ones that were prescribed. You literally learn everything on the job. Recruiters, from my experience, do not really consider the subjects you choose as electives. You should always choose subjects that you will enjoy and work from that basis

Hi Tshidi, I have my little sister who is interested in doing law but she’s very much worried that she won’t be able to get a job because she has been told that lawyers find it VERY difficult to get employed. Is it true?
This was beautiful to watch. What kind of instructions do you get for work? Or what are you doing when working as a corporate attorney? Is it drafting opinions?
Hi NK It’s really a vast amount of work which various from drafting merger filings, drafting complaints referrals or responding to those. Opinions are definitely some of the work we do. Competition law also has a litigation aspects about it where decisions can go as far as the Constitutional Court. There’s much more to it than the way I’m explaining it but that’s the gist.
