It's a nice tractor and suppose it goes without saying that this JD shows a little more pride of ownership and/or the importance of reasonable maintenance that'll make them give better, more reliable service. Also probably stored inside with frequent pressure washing. I'm jealous...
Enjoyed your easy going discussion without a bunch of emotion concerning problems with your equipment. I've been doing John Deere equipment for over thirty years. It's been good to me. Good luck with yours.
Now I don't want to sound like a a Doomsdayer. But I would probably strengthen your roof structure. You live near the most dangerous Volcano in the United States and possibly the world. It has been showing increasing activity as of lately. In case of a eruption It will likely be 30 to 60 days before any help would be able to get to your area. Supplies you would need is 60 day supply of water, long term survival food, medicine, Batteries and Breathing respirator with exchangeable filters. Currently the Yellowstone Cauldra is experiencing the longest running earthquakes storm in the 40+ Years of monitoring it. It has also been uplifting the roof of the Cauldra this entire time. This has been occurring now for 8 weeks with over 3000 earthquakes. I decided to let you know so you could be prepared. Volcanic ash is very small. It is smaller than house hold dust, but it is not what most people think of dust because it rock tenths of a micron in size. If it gets into your lungs it will form a cement. It is extremely dangerous to breath. Where you live you will possibly have feet of ash. A foot of it will collapse most roofs.
I had some dairymen using them on feed wagons with 28 30000 hrs. because they clutch so much I thought they'd have tranny and clutch problems but not so. a water pump kit every 7-8000 hrs. the switch for the pto on open station
I worked on several of these tractors and the tractor won't go into gear till the clutch is cycle which shuttles a valve then hydraulicly will engage a gear. That is there safety. The ones I was around were slow spinning the engine like yours sounded.
Hate to hear about issues with the NH. The knob behind the three point is probably draft control the three point . Maintains some lift on the three point as field conditions change. I see s scroll knob up on the three point slider. I think that is the three point speed control. I think there are switches on the side of the three point as well. So you set the down position with the slider and leave it. Then all you do is hit the up or down on the side. So what you get with all of those settings is repeatable smooth operation of the three point (ie it drops to the same position every time, maintains the same lift, and doesn't drop the implement like a rock). Probably a lift limit setting somewhere as well.
Hey do you think after you figure out what something does when you say I have to get the book out you come back and tell us what that was in any of your videos just saying asking thanks good video
Once the new holland is fixed it will last another 8000 where as the john deere is a few years older and not as many hours will have electrical issues.
Guy in WY it has the dual power transmission so there is a high and low shift for every range. The New Holland can just about run a Round baler at idle
I may have missed it .. but where it the fuel tank on that deere? I have the 4wd version and it is under the cab with the lid next to the left hand step.
Hi She's defiantly a better looking tractor than the NH, I Think if you had the factory seat in there the room would be fine. I don't remember having a problem with the one I drove , I'm not short and my boss wasn't either. When we lived in the U.K we were Belarus dealers. The air cooled 400 and 250 types weren't that common over there compared to here in Canada and the U.S. we sold one customer a new 250 to go with the one he had, and a newer style 400 series, and another new 250 for a guy to move trailers round his camp grounds and cut grass. I think there was maybe 5 little guys we sold or looked after round the U.K. For their size the 400 and 250's were a good tractor in the day.
Agri farming Ireland It is, but there are things you can do to make it less risky. I plan to do a video soon on what I've learned after doing this twice.
It might pull the mower, but odds are it will stay on the baler. We have a self propelled swather in addition to the pull behind so we'll primarily cut with the self propelled and bale with the Deere.
Well, watched it on the forum and now here. Have to say you make great videos. You're at 1.7K now so you're getting popular on here. Lots of tractor/farm people.
I like your videos. I am from Wyoming now living in Alaska. You almost make me want to go back to Wyo. I think if the right opportunity came up I might give up what I have in Ak to go home.
i got a jd 7810 some time ago, i really like the old jd style, and it fits perfectly with the terrain here in north italy. your new machine has some small problems but nothing that you cant fix in 20 minutes
man oh man, your place is looking lots like mine. When you're in P(park) it will start with out the clutch. The seat is not the original seat. any questions just ask.
and look you can work on it if you need to without having a "John Deere" tech with lock out codes do service like the new ones require, it's like having to use the cloud to work on your tractor.
I have found the NHs seem to be made cheap. I don't think they hold up well. I think the engines are good but the rest is not so great. A lot of little things go wrong with them.
+feelnrite With this one, I think most of the problem was a lack of maintenance in the past. It has a version of the 5.9 Cummins engine, so it's a solid power plant.
I've got a six month old rat terrier puppy, I took her to the vet and had her spayed. the vet told me to make sure she doesn't jump and keep her calm for the next seven days. Walked out of the vets and when I got to the truck and opened the door she jumped up in the cab as I was reaching down to get her. Its going to be a long seven days.
I'm glad to see that you have the cast off! Do you think your hand will fully recover? I love your little helper, Ivy. She reminds me of my dog Vista when I first found her, at about the same age.
Thanks Mark! I have most of my mobility back, but it's completely numb along the bottom. The doctor said the feeling may recover, but it can take a while.
My guess is the loader would really reduce performance of the tractor while baling due to the additional weight. I'm sure fuel performance would drop as well. Handling is also always different. Dad would never let us keep the loader on the tractor while working in the field. As you know, correct tires as key for the job. JD certainly has tire specs for baling. I wonder how much different the sizes would be. The tires look wide, as if they were specified for angled elevations (mowing) versus prairie.Pulling performance on the baler may improve with correct size tires... And I know- the rubber is expensive... :)
Okay just watched this new video and you explained alot of what I wondered, comparing the 115 to the 6410.The tractor reminds me a lot of the 4420 we used to run. We weren't baling, plowing, seeding and cultivating but the handling and shifting looks similar to the JD we ran in the late 70's. Love the frame on this machine. A tractor with that many hours on it and ready to go to work in a day, just speaks volumes for the quality. It speaks to me that JD has remained committed to a quality product even as they try to cut costs where possible. Really pleased with this video. Hope we get to see the tractor in action baling and reports on how it holds up.
+Michael Chugg you'll see a lot of the Deere, we've been baling with it since the day after we did all the maintenance. Videos are coming, hopefully get one up tonight.
Super! My brother- in -law ranches and my nephew ranches on my grandfather's place in Northern Alberta. Both work out and have little spreads with about 35 head each on leases. My uncle was a cattle dealer. My Dad owned a dealership, then wold for a dealership as well as ran our grain farm. I worked for JD in Regina, Sask for two summers before joining McCain Foods in Edmonton and Calgary. We had mixed machines on the farm from JD to Versatile, IH and NH. Main tractor was always JD. Started with an R, moved up to a 4020 and then to the 4420. Looking forward to some baling pictures with that Deere! To a dry August for baling! :)
I've bought two tractors sight unseen, had a problem with one but you had to run it a few hours before it showed itself, bought two tractors seen had a huge issue with one so it's really a toss up. If it's used your going to have a problem at one point or another that's just the facts
Yes, nice tractor, that's in better condition than the NH for sure. I used to drive a 6510; roughly same HP but six cylinders and bigger tractor. It was 4 wheel drive and the steering lock was terrible. It had a slow starting problem too until we took the ground strap off, removed the paint and that solved it. Just newly subscribed a few days ago and enjoy your videos except for the lack of hills and trees! Haha!
like your new john deere your new holland not so much
One is better than none! :)
Come to a stop before shifting ranges
Glad to see you got this from south Texas. I live a few miles from Alice. I found your channel after Mike from Our Wyoming Life suggested yours.
Thanks for watching Mike!
Great choice of tractor
Lucas Makk thank you!
A little Miss Ivy when she was small. 😊 the beginning of the adventure of the channel. 😁👍
You are a gambler on no see tractors
Agreed. I've bought and sold equipment, lawnmowers, etc since I was in high school but sometimes I occasionally miss one.
John Deere Quality plus Texas integrity leads to a great outcome!
Nice tractor Blake, good to see the cast is off.
Thank you!
Even if it is a Lemon you can make it work - and repair it 6400 keep their value
It's a nice tractor and suppose it goes without saying that this JD shows a little more pride of ownership and/or the importance of reasonable maintenance that'll make them give better, more reliable service. Also probably stored inside with frequent pressure washing. I'm jealous...

how much should I be willing to pay for a 6410 4x4 cab with a 640 loader and 8000 hours? I'm a newcomer in TN.
I worked on several of these tractors and the tractor won't go into gear till the clutch is cycle which shuttles a valve then hydraulicly will engage a gear. That is there safety. The ones I was around were slow spinning the engine like yours sounded.
Wow. Just look at the countryside out there. So different from here in Oxfordshire England.
Buying any vehicle over the internet...drop your pants and lean over a saw horse.
Nice video, you have certainly upgraded your fleet!
Thanks! It's taken a long time to start getting a little nicer equipment, even if it is old.
I bet your dog will be sitting in the jump seat when you get one
Need to turn off the tractor to turn off the diff lock
Hate to hear about issues with the NH. The knob behind the three point is probably draft control the three point . Maintains some lift on the three point as field conditions change. Thanks! I'll try that out.
What year is the 6410. Great video. I can understand why you buy used tractors, I want to buy a new 2025r tractor boy are they expensive
Yeah, new versions of these tractors would probably be closer to $100,000. That's a bit much for us right now.
Enjoying your videos from Michigan. Thanks for posting.
Thank you for watching!
i have a jd 6415 and the only thing that i have a issue with is the water pump blew up at only 2,000 hours
If that's been the only issue, that isn't too bad.
Do you need the cluth with switching from forwards to backwords ?
No
Hey do you think after you figure out what something does when you say I have to get the book out you come back and tell us what that was in any of your videos just saying asking thanks good video
That's a good idea, a lot of times someone answers it in the comments. I will try to follow up in later videos as well though!
That doesn't look like the john deere seat. And theres no clutch switch in this as long as its in park and neutral it will start.
+john smith correct, the seat has been changed for sure and we think the fuel tank has as well.
Thanks for your videos.
I wonder which tractor uses less fuel, JD vs NH.
Jamie Shields probably the Deere. The NH is a few thousand pounds heavier and has a 6 cylinder engine where the JD is a 4 cylinder.
How much did you get this for? I would like to see if I can't pick up a 6400 like my dad used to have, or an older 6000-series similar to that.
Tap the brakes to disengage the differential lock.
I think that's the one thing I didn't try yet.
Thanks for taking us along on this adventure.
Fillow Tree Thank you for following!
A 4 cylinder diesel for haying - should work good
Should be fairly fuel efficient as well.
Nothing runs like a deere with a new holland up its rear "Hon the TSA"
Donal TS100A Once the NH is at 100% I think they'll make an excellent combo.
I think that switch is bad if the horn and the lights don't work
+Justin Branen I got the horn sort of working, and the lights have their own little control panel near the roof.
Nice machine. Good buy. Oh wait a minute, its a John Deere. That's why.
Once the new holland is fixed it will last another 8000 where as the john deere is a few years older and not as many hours will have electrical issues.
The NH doesn't have quite as many electrical features.
Guy in WY it has the dual power transmission so there is a high and low shift for every range. The New Holland can just about run a Round baler at idle
Is your white truck a diesel ot the gas engine
5.8 liter gas with an automatic transmission and 4:10 gears
I may have missed it .. but where it the fuel tank on that deere? I have the 4wd version and it is under the cab with the lid next to the left hand step.
+amacdona32 the tank is under the driver side of the cab, but the filler port was moved to behind the cab on the left for some reason.
Ah huh thanks!
Love the dog, my Australia Sheppard would do the same.
you stole my dog why would you do that like
Ha! I just got her a few weeks ago, glad to have another Shepherd
Hi She's defiantly a better looking tractor than the NH, I Think if you had the factory seat in there the room would be fine. Thanks! The seat being changed would make sense. I like the Belarus, but it's no fun to run for extended periods.
Do you not feel it is a very risky decision not looking at the tractor in person before purchasing
Agri farming Ireland It is, but there are things you can do to make it less risky. I plan to do a video soon on what I've learned after doing this twice.
Yeah that would make for an interesting video keep up the good work
I hope it's a good one for ya! New to the channel, just subscribed. Best of luck with the NH!
Thank you!
Hello from Ohio, Been rebuilding my 2n and had your videos playing in the background as I worked. Keep it up man, I just subbed this morning!
+nardp96 thanks! I’m hoping to start on my 8N soon!
Will you pull your mower too with that tractor? Or is it going to stay on the bailer?
It might pull the mower, but odds are it will stay on the baler. We have a self propelled swather in addition to the pull behind so we'll primarily cut with the self propelled and bale with the Deere.
Guy in WY Okay! Just wondering! I recently found your videos and I am really enjoying them!!!
Hey man you’re one of my new favorite UA-camrs
must be southeast Wyoming. Can you see Laramie Peak from there? That's all nice cow country.
+Mtnman Deluxe yup, just west of Cheyenne.
Well, watched it on the forum and now here. Have to say you make great videos. You're at 1.7K now so you're getting popular on here. Lots of tractor/farm people.
Thanks Levi. I'm amazed at how this has gone.
I like your videos. I am from Wyoming now living in Alaska. You almost make me want to go back to Wyo. I think if the right opportunity came up I might give up what I have in Ak to go home.
I know a lot of people from the west that moved away and want to come back. Can't say I blame them.
i got a jd 7810 some time ago, i really like the old jd style, and it fits perfectly with the terrain here in north italy. your new machine has some small problems but nothing that you cant fix in 20 minutes
+Pesa sounds about right.
man oh man, your place is looking lots like mine. When you're in P(park) it will start with out the clutch. The seat is not the original seat. any questions just ask.
Thanks! I'm sure y'all will hear about any questions I have.
Love your channel, keep up the great videos, you've got a subscriber in Scotland now!!
Wow! Glad you're enjoying the videos!
and look you can work on it if you need to without having a "John Deere" tech with lock out codes do service like the new ones require, it's like having to use the cloud to work on your tractor.
Yup. The electronic three point controls aren't my favorite, but should be reliable.
Yeah the tractor looks nice :D And your channel is really taking off with the subscriber count^^
You're telling me! I've been absolutely stunned. Did a bigger channel mention me or something? Whatever it is, I'm glad y'all are enjoying it.
Got you a good Texas tractor I'm from Texas I live here in Texas hope you good luck with the tractor
+Lonzo Satterfield Thanks!
Please help that dog down from that tractor, it would be very easy for it to get a leg in between the rails of that step.
Never fear, I picked her up. She's growing pretty fast but is still a little small to make a jump like that.
Thank you! I could just see her trying to go down the steps, missing a slat and getting her leg caught between them.
+41willys62 I've got to keep an eye on her, she has no fear. I parked the pickup by the barn and hopped out, she crawled out the window to follow me.
You weren't "luckier" when you got this tractor; that's just John Deere!
+Warren Swan Deere builds a good machine, but I've seen a few that were beaten into pretty sorry shape as well.
I dont think its gonna be hard for you to service it, since the "problems" arent so big or expensive
+VvlDino plays so far so good.
Why do your tractors have a stupidly wide wheel base
For stability
The NH came that way. The Deere is actually about as narrow as it can be set.
Tractors have been known to tip over. solid axels, so roll bars are good safety.
Great video. Hope your hand is getting better. Thanks for posting.
Hand is doing alright, thanks!
These are good machines. The farm I work on has one of these with over 14000 hrs, no issues.
That's good to know!
Get some exhaust black paint and repaint the exhaust. It makes them look a lot better.
+feelnrite not a bad idea. I'll have to look, may even have some around here somewhere.
Nice tractor you will have Tim coming back to play ! LOL
+Kioti CS2410 I think that's an excellent idea!
You lucked out on the deere, if I bought one sight unseen it would come in a basket
+joe tiller the Deere has turned out to be the better purchase than the NH. The NH is close to being in a basket.
How the engine oil look and the transmission oil - back tires still have a little left on them
Both looked about average, but we changed them regardless.
Good luck! I hope all of those pesky nerves reconnect themselves.
are you going to put front loder arm atachers on tha
on that
+Leo Owens probably not, we have other tractors with loaders on them.
Can you please do a walk around of all your equipment? Thank you
That's a good idea. I'll try to do that sometime soon.
Nice video,......From Brasil....Thank you.
Thank you!
Nice tractor. Looks like it'll work for your needs.
Michael M. We hope so!
Looks perfect for its intended job! Nice buy.
+sixosixo thank you!
You will love the electric over hydraulic hitch once you get used to it.
It has the control on the outside fender to lift and lower the hitch for hooking up implements, that's really nice.
Just found your channel, love your videos.
Thanks!
somehow looks better than that new holland!??! :)
+SaoPauloNX I think you're right!
Lmao I live in Alice
So how did your truck do after the rebuild?
+clyde macphee pretty well in my opinion. We averaged about 55 mph which isn't bad for a 5.8 liter gasoline engine at over 6500' elevation.
Hp?
catalin pop Should be 100 at the PTO.
I like it
Thank you!
That's a rough old Deere!
It's not pristine, but could be a lot worse.
The JD is running smaller front and rear wheels than standard?
I honestly don't know, but maybe. I'll try to remember and get the tire sizes off of it to check. It might be because it's a two wheel drive.
BMW M3 S65B40 his does have small rubber, the one I run has 18.4 34's on it, great little tractor!
I like those transmissions!
+Adam Offen so do I!
Okay just watched this new video and you explained alot of what I wondered, comparing the 115 to the 6410.The tractor reminds me a lot of the 4420 we used to run. It's Alice, Texas. Look it up, made Lyndon Johnson President.
That is a awesome tractor! My dad has a 2006 John Deere 5325 with cab and power reverser transmission and it is a really awesome tractor.
Really nice John Deere 😉🙋
André Hilgers thank you.
Anson tx ?
Sowerscattleco I went back and looked, it was in Alice Texas.
I've bought two tractors sight unseen, had a problem with one but you had to run it a few hours before it showed itself, bought two tractors seen had a huge issue with one so it's really a toss up. If it's used your going to have a problem at one point or another that's just the facts
When the diff lock is activated just tap your brakes and it'll turn off. That is a good looking tractor. I think you'll be happy with it
WV Ranch hand thanks! Tapping the brake is one thing I don't think I tried.
A tractor that nice deserves to get the dash replaced also lol !! And the best part is that's it's GREEN!!! And good luck with the puppy!!
+PhatboyHD88 We plan to fix the dash, the plastic cover shouldn't be too expensive.
Haha!
Julia Lees thank you! We skipped most of the hills, seems like we go from flat right into mountains.
