The energy, the tasteful technique, the weirdness, the contrast between the beautiful violin timbres and the dissonant melodies it is playing. Everything about this is so amazing and refreshing. This is what prog is supposed to be.
I haven't been able to get this song out of my head for weeks. Absolutely amazing talent everywhere! Every time I listen I notice something new, so inspiring!
This album is really incredible - definitely a grower! The first listen I thought it was fun but daft, barely-listenable prog nonsense: artistically interesting but not really enjoyable. Months later I went back for another dose, then again a few days later. Some sections of it became an earworm that I started humming while doing other things so I went back to those parts and started to notice other sections were actually quite catchy/groovy/got serious /stank/, then more and more... Now the entire thing is cemented in my mind and it's wonderful! I've been following your channel for years but only started actually listening to your creations in early 2018 and I have been so thoroughly impressed by everything - your solo albums, BLG, Bent Knee, Justice Cow... It's all amazing. Thank you (and everyone involved) for doing what you do.
God I can't get enough of this album. Gonna be buying a physical copy sometime soon. Mr. Levin, you're high up on my list of favorite musicians of all time, never stop making masterpieces like Freak Machine.
At 1:33 and 3:41 the riff reminded me of Good Neighbor from Dillinger Escape Plan! I’m so glad I caught Bent Knee at the Dillinger show on Providence! Much love to you guys! Seriously!
Ben, complete truth. You are better than 90% of the prog bands out there, this is actually very innovative music. I'm glad I discovered you from makewierdmusic (my friend)!
Felipe Morayta Guitar, bass, piano, drums. I reside personally as a classical composer though, which complicates the matter. I've certainly heard a lot of prog over the years, Devy is still one of my favorite though I admit I haven't listened to him at all recently. Though I put on my cd of ZTO about a month ago, love that album. Deconstruction is a very exciting album too, Mighty Masturbator and Deconstruction (the song) are possibly two of his best songs! You arrived in time for Transcendence (his new album) in time! haha
You guys have, on many occasions, had me in absolute awe of your artistry, composing and performance. Desired large emotion response achieved guys, you MUST keep doing it forever.
When people say there is no good modern music, I point them to Ben Levin Group. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Death Grips, Sungazer. Great modern bands. BTW how do you come up with stuff like this? Such a great song. Lot of Zappa vibes, SOAD, Pixies, King Crimson.
Oh hey what a coincidence, Sungazer’s playing in my area on Friday. I don’t know them, but I saw this comment and now I’m thinking I should go check em out Edit: listened to them a little bit, pretty good, it wasn’t til now that I look em up and realize oh wow it’s literally 50% Adam Neely lol. Definitely going to the show now.
It's amazing how many people are in the world and then thinking about how the vast majority of them haven't even seen the most viewed UA-cam videos of all time!
I watched a lot of your tutorial/demo videos over the last couple months, but never actually checked your own music until yesterday. Man, that's some crazy good stuff here. All the players are at the top of their game, and that singer is absolutely fantastic. Well done lads!
So nice to tap back into this after so much time away from the freak machine. So nice to think that this was my introduction to your music, and I've only come to love it more since then
This could be that old Grateful Dead trick, where one mic is out of phase, so you can cancel out sounds coming in from around her - probably the loud drumkit behind her.
I''m fascinated by and addicted to the ''modal interchangy'' riff you play at 3:25. I think I've seen you play something like that on Controlling Visuals and a Light Show with your Guitar. Gonna spend the next week working it out! haha
Wow Marc, that's a really cool observation! I didn't realize how similar those two riffs are, but you're right, they use the same concept. I'm glad you've been digging it!
Ca tue!! Ca tue!!! It's been a while I haven't heard song like this! It remind me some of Steve Vai's in the beginning of his solo career. I just want to tell you : GONGRATS, that's just wonderfull! I think I'll immediately buy your album lol (sorry for my bad english, I'm french)
Is there anywhere I can find lyrics for this thing? I can't seem to work some of the words out... PS: Love the voice crack at 7:35, a sweet little reminder that Courtney is human.
I wanted to say I got surprised that I liked this as much as I did, but after years of listening to stuff like King Diamond and Psychotic Waltz maybe it's natural... The last thing I was expecting to discover here is some quality prog eargasm. Thank you for that! =)
I dunno. It seemed a bit self-indulgent at first but then it definitely took some form and damn if I didn't mostly enjoy it -- which says a lot given how "experimental" it was. Nice job!
Gosh, I know we will be doing international touring in the future, but it's hard to say when and where right now. I am so glad you like the music, Juan!
We played this in front of an audience and wanted to record the vocals both dry and with live FX. I believe we had used up all the DI's at this point so we weren't able to just split the signal haha!
Oh I see, whatever works! hahaha. I've just discovered you and your bands today through Adam Neely and I've been looking through all your music. Really great stuff! I look forward to hearing more!
YES! This is absolutely wonderful! No: To me, it sounds probably better than: Frank Zappa PLUS The Skeleton Crew PLUS Colosseum II PLUS ... (so much more). Sorry for what might sound like a (stupid) comparison. It's not. I try to establish categories only :-) Your music is huge. You deserve worldwide fame. Seriously. Best greetings from the Vienna Woods.
To add yet another annoying comparison: Cardiacs. Some moment felt like them. But overall: Plain brilliant. I don't get why most people don't get it. I don't get most people. 🧸👌🏻💕🎶
It's so weird. I want to look away and not listen, but I can't because it's too fucking interesting. Can't say I'd put it on my ipod, but it's a very nice piece nonetheless.
Been looking for this song for over 2 years!!! Been torturing me with snippets of lyrics.... and here it is in all its glory 🥰
It's great to watch young musicians pushing through the doors of convention. This is how brilliance is born
Peace and love from the UK
i love the contrast between the soft zappa-esque sections and the freak-out sections. sick shredding too!
The energy, the tasteful technique, the weirdness, the contrast between the beautiful violin timbres and the dissonant melodies it is playing. Everything about this is so amazing and refreshing. This is what prog is supposed to be.
Breathtaking! Just bought the album but this live version is even better. The vocals at 8:13 sent shivers down my spine. Keep the project going!!!!
Inventive, unpredictable, Courtney Swain-y..yes, this piece has it all!!!
Can't stop watching. Can't stop listening. Can't stop showing people.
literally so good.
If The Pixies and Frank Zappa would've had a child together, it would be this.
I haven't been able to get this song out of my head for weeks. Absolutely amazing talent everywhere! Every time I listen I notice something new, so inspiring!
I love this !

you described my sentiments very accurately. thank you aswell
She's great singer. Hat's off.
Great vibe, and amazing delivery, with really really outstanding vocals!
Honestly, didn't expect it to be this good
Both my heart and my butt say yes to this
My butt doesn't say much these days. I'm glad you've still got the little guy chatting away.
Those vocals are making me melt.
Incredible performance.
One of the most interesting thing I've heard in the last years.
You say, your profile picture being the album with Dance of Eternity on it
God I can't get enough of this album. Gonna be buying a physical copy sometime soon. Mr. Levin, you're high up on my list of favorite musicians of all time, never stop making masterpieces like Freak Machine.
love me this Stravinsky harmony but rockin out. The dissonance is very satisfying and impactful
I loved the bass sound. How the bass sounds
At 1:33 and 3:41 the riff reminded me of Good Neighbor from Dillinger Escape Plan! I’m so glad I caught Bent Knee at the Dillinger show on Providence! Much love to you guys! Seriously!
Amazing job, Ben! As a frenchie I don't get all the lyrics ;-) but the music speaks to me, and the singer's voice is incredible!
Ben, complete truth. You are better than 90% of the prog bands out there, this is actually very innovative music. I'm glad I discovered you from makewierdmusic (my friend)!
It is good to find a Ziltoid fan around here.
Felipe Morayta I've been a Devy fan for years and of course I love Zilty! Good to see someone who is also a Ziltoid fan!
Cool! I am relatively new to Devin Townsend, I started listening to Decunstruction which is now one of my favorite albums. Do you play an instrument?
Felipe Morayta Guitar, bass, piano, drums.
I reside personally as a classical composer though, which complicates the matter.
I've certainly heard a lot of prog over the years, Devy is still one of my favorite though I admit I haven't listened to him at all recently. I would love to check your music if you have released it, or maybe make a collaboration if you like!
Insanely good and infinitely inspiring.
Such a great video!
Thank you, I'm so glad you dig it!
Umphf! So far my favourist session.
I really enjoyed this.
This is aging beautifully!! Wow, so good!
I detect a lot of influence from the great Mr Zappa. Very cool performance. Waiting for more! :)
Thank you, plenty more coming!
Not sure if genius or insanity. Probably both. It's mesmerizing, I love it.
landofold Thank you. I think it's just a catchy song!
You guys have, on many occasions, had me in absolute awe of your artistry, composing and performance. Desired large emotion response achieved guys, you MUST keep doing it forever.
The riff from papa roach's "cut my life into pieces" song mixed with "pull me under" by dream theater around 6:43 😉
Top class musicians ! Brillant performance!
Thank you very much!
God, please come to Brazil.
Oh yeah. I hear King Crimson in this.
Where is SOAD?
@@sillyname3969 screaming through a dream that erupted like a fever and oh baby I broke down over and over
Maybe checkout bent knee. 50% of that band also plays in here
Oh hey what a coincidence, Sungazer’s playing in my area on Friday. I don’t know them, but I saw this comment and now I’m thinking I should go check em out
Edit: listened to them a little bit, pretty good, it wasn’t til now that I look em up and realize oh wow it’s literally 50% Adam Neely lol. Definitely going to the show now.
This is excellent!
This song reminds me "Frank" with Michael Fassbender, and I definitely love it
So this is the original Bent Knee... Love it!!
How did I miss this? Brillliant!!
It's amazing how many people are in the world and then thinking about how the vast majority of them haven't even seen the most viewed UA-cam videos of all time!
Crazy stuff. I like it. I found this in the comments section of another video. The time changes in this song are unreal.
Incredible!!
Thank you Randy!
I watched a lot of your tutorial/demo videos over the last couple months, but never actually checked your own music until yesterday. Man, that's some crazy good stuff here. All the players are at the top of their game, and that singer is absolutely fantastic. Well done lads!
Holy shit
It's crazy how good you sound live. Same as the studio version.
Ala Frank Zappa and Mr Bungle (Michael Patton) !!!
Diggin' it!!!
Awesome!
And there I thought I was almost over my month long addiction to the new Bent Knee. This is sending me back over the edge..
Wow, I'm so glad that you're into so many of my projects! I appreciate you!
So nice to tap back into this after so much time away from the freak machine. So nice to think that this was my introduction to your music, and I've only come to love it more since then
This is awesome af
some real zappa shit right here. legendary.
Is Courtney singing through 2 57's taped together? Is that for a stereo vocal image, panned opposite each other?
This could be that old Grateful Dead trick, where one mic is out of phase, so you can cancel out sounds coming in from around her - probably the loud drumkit behind her.
this is righteous!
Literally had this on repeat for the last couple of days, you guys have created something intensely energetic and beautiful ahaa.
I'm so glad you've been enjoying this!
this is crazy!!!! amazing stuff ben
Thank you, Max, happy new year!
GOD DAMM GUYSS U ARE GOOD

Holy Shit Dude. First time hearing this and it is fanTAStic. I hardly know what's going on and I absolutely LOVE IT
Fantastic, thank you!

wow I've been scrolling the comments too long lmao
all you need to know though is that Ben Levin's genitals say yes
@@SolaymanFawaz That's some real shit bro, thanks for the guidance.

Bizarre, quirky and generally "out there"... I'll be damned if it didn't grow on me a couple minutes into this. Killer performance!
it truly new.. nice! i liked
fucken sweeeeeeet.so much talent
please put it on spotify again
Adonai Ravi it’s on Spotify! Search for ben Levin
it's the rite of spring people
Sounds like Tober Omi, meets Shellac, meets Zappa (sort of), and a bunch of other stuff, with female vocals, keys and violin.
This is SO FUCKING GOOD OH MY GOD
WOW
Holy Crap Ben Zappa Levin
I wanted to say I got surprised that I liked this as much as I did, but after years of listening to stuff like King Diamond and Psychotic Waltz maybe it's natural...

I am very glad you liked it so much! Thank you for giving it a good listen.
6:33 THIS IS MY LAST RESORT
This is fucking great
... Holy shit. That was intense.
i love how the "1234" at the beginning is so off from the actual tempo
It actually isn't tho
Gives me PoiL vibes, adore it
Love
This should be the new standard
Man this shit is too good! Kinda reminds of Escalator over the Hill in the best way possible.
...wow

Also, is there any possibility of you tabbing this? I'd love to play it.
If Glee had done the mothers of invention...
Haha!

I'm extremely curious. Why the double 57s for the female vocalist?
We played this in front of an audience and wanted to record the vocals both dry and with live FX. I believe we had used up all the DI's at this point so we weren't able to just split the signal haha!

So he have a group besides Bent Knee? Interesting..
And it's pretty much Bent Knee but with a different rhythm section.
Is the violinist simon from the uk inbetweeners?
No but he is the violinist from Bent Knee, the VGO, and he's one of the violinists for The Dear Hunter too! Thanks for watching, Richard.
wow... what key is this song? what is mode you use
probablu a whole bunch. as for modes, sounds like quite a bit of phrygian.
