They are easy to find in nurseries down here in central / south Florida. Unfortunately I think your winter temps might be too cold in Dallas to grow carambola outside year-round...
We call these “Beriran” or Balimbing in the Philippines. One of my favorite snack when I was a kid. They are very sour when green and we use them when green for fish stews.
