Hell, I've ridden proper mountain trails and through rivers where it did ok, but like most things in life there's often something better so making do with what you have and compromising when you need to is required. For me this bike is a good mix for the open road and can handle gravel and trails all in the same ride. Funny you should mention the XL250, great bike and I almost bought one just yesterday, but then reminded myself I also have a DR250 that is just as capable when I want to get a bit more adventurous off-road.
