Perhaps, it usually takes me between 5 and 10 minutes to break down and back a doubles set. I find the most time consuming part is cranking the landing gear on the pups
I sometimes drive doubles hauling macadamia nuts. Crazy difficult just to back straight. Main thing you have to watch is the front dollies. Control the front dolly and you control the direction of the swing of the rear of the first trailer. Then use the rear of the first trailer to push the dolly on the second trailer. Hard concept to grasp, I still have much to learn myself

I thought about designing a towing pintle that slides side to side on the frame of the trailer for situations like this. It would be operated by an air ram or an electric motor on a rack and pinion. It would allow you to have more control on that second trailer without having to make the tractor make massive turns to keep it straight. It would be
It isn’t being lazy. But you have to have some true patience, eye coordination, and damn near perfect reaction and wheel control to do that. I have two out of those four. Patience and the wheel control to not over turn would screw me Everytime with doubles. Great job bruh. Great job. I’ll stick to the long way
Bro you did that shit like nothing, I’ve tried to just back up my lead trailer and dolly to my rear trailer but I can’t i just always have to get out and roll it there myself or just place my dolly there before i even hook up to my lead, good shit bro.
I used to work the yard at YRC that dolly is the most aggravating thing on earth even if you back up straight without turning the wheel it’ll jackknife, it takes a lot of patience backing doubles
You have to tell the dolly where to go. If you wait for it to go where it wants its too late to correct it. Its much easier with a short tractor too i did it with a twin screw day cab. Took forever to learn it.
Do loads like this always go to warehouses that have a large amount of space to able to turn around like this?? I want to get my CDL but I'm still deciding If I want to do OTR, LTL/ Regional or just straight trucks.
I don't drive anymore but I Always wondered if those wiggle wagons could be backed. I once watched one try for two hours on the back side of a hotel that was a dead end till he ended up calling a tow truck to help him out. Nice Job.
In Australia I'm driving a 2020 model Mack Granite with 2 40ft trailers with a bogey dolly, the set up is called an (A Double) and they are very difficult to reverse.
Dude I'm going through single trailer training right now and just that takes alot of getting used to and concentration. I can't imagine doing a double where I'm at right now. I don't think alot of people have any idea how difficult that is.
It would be interesting to do a timed test of this vs the method where the driver unhooks and only backs the single trailer into the dock to see how much time it might save (if someone is proficient doing this). SCENARIO: Your starting condition is with a double trailer coming into the gate at the yard and your ending condition is to be at the same point, facing the opposite direction with just a single trailer hooked to the tractor. TEST#1: You maneuver the double trailer to a particular dock, unhook it, and then take the single trailer that is still hooked to the tractor to the exit point. TEST#2: You maneuver the double trailer to an intermediate point, unhook from the rear trailer, move forward to another intermediate point, and unhook from the front trailer, and then go back to what was the rear trailer, hook up to it, and take it to the dock. You then go back to the previous front trailer and take it to the exit point. I'm surprised that no one has developed some sort of yard vehicle with the 5th wheel in the front and with a 5th wheel that can be hydraulically raised so that the trailer legs do not need to be raised when moving the trailer. Sitting that close to the front of the trailer though would probably give the driver a pretty large blind spot, so he would either need some cameras that stuck well off the sides, double mirrors, or some such thing like that. Ideally, an OTR driver would just pull into the lot, unhook from his trailer(s) and then continue on his way, never having to reverse and someone else being responsible for moving the trailer to the dock or wherever it needed to be.
Jim Stroupe you just have to have patience like me I used to train for like 20-30 minutes after I was off the clock when I was done with my day and that was because I really wanted to learn.

What he did here is a whole nother ball of wax. We always break them down and back em one at a time
Awesome I was told that it couldn’t be done well here you go it was done great job.
By the time you get these backed up I'd already have both at the door and parked doing it the righ way.
Perhaps, it usually takes me between 5 and 10 minutes to break down and back a doubles set. I find the most time consuming part is cranking the landing gear on the pups
The “right way” is efficient and safe. That was clearly efficient, and I didn’t see anything inherently unsafe.
i'm the dude peeping through the porthole watching people back in. some take 10 minutes on a 53 with no other trucks around.
Gonna try this in ATS game. I thought it was impossible. Thanks, man.
Hell yeah I’ll show the people in Las Vegas in truckers MP that I’m boss
That was awesome!!! You are a great driver. Best to you.
That is excellent. Way to go!!!!
Amazing backing there, driver. Year three on the road for me---I have yet to see this done in person at any customer or truckstop.
Nice job! I could do that 30 years ago with manual steer tractor at Roadway Express.
Very well done, I hope with your talent your not wasting it on being a UA-cam star, hopefully your doing your state rodeo and representing OD all the way to the Nationals! Keep up the good work brother, we'll see you out there Gbo saying what's up 👍💪👏👌👊
Ultimate truking and the hardest double 👍
I thought about designing a towing pintle that slides side to side on the frame of the trailer for situations like this. It would be operated by an air ram or an electric motor on a rack and pinion. It would allow you to have more control on that second trailer without having to make the tractor make massive turns to keep it straight. It would be
Lazy? No way! Smart! Well done sir!
Very nice. Struggeling with one axis trailers myself but one day maybe...
Hey you did a GREAT Job..... But that looks very challenging......
Was mildly impressed.. Then i see how he lined up to the dock perfectly. O.O
Nice... I hope to be that good someday
It isn’t being lazy. But you have to have some true patience, eye coordination, and damn near perfect reaction and wheel control to do that. I have two out of those four. Patience and the wheel control to not over turn would screw me Everytime with doubles. Great job bruh. Great job. I’ll stick to the long way
That isn’t lazy that’s just working smarter
No way I could park in that tight gap without hitting something hats off to you sir
I have mad respect for people who can do this!
Great job Driver! i love watching true skills and the love of what you do! not many take the time to hone there talents! cheers brother!
Good job bro ! Gotta luv that power steering ! Keep on trucking in the free world................
No.
No, in fact, the FedEx Ground terminals I've gone to here in AZ are pretty tight, especially when drivers are just dumping pups everywhere
I am working with a straight truck and a trailer. I am having to back the trailer and it is a delicate “feathering” like turn. It is hard to do.
That is perfect brother , Great job !!!
Wtf that was so smooth. I really want to learn this
Holland driver saying saying, excellent backing skills!!!
I don't drive anymore but I Always wondered if those wiggle wagons could be backed. I once watched one try for two hours on the back side of a hotel that was a dead end till he ended up calling a tow truck to help him out. Nice Job.
Tom Wise thanks
He could have unhooked and set up facing the other way and reset them
Most logic thing to do.
Tom Wise why didn't the dumb ass break the set and then back out one at a time ?
In Australia I'm driving a 2020 model Mack Granite with 2 40ft trailers with a bogey dolly, the set up is called an (A Double) and they are very difficult to reverse.
That's a real driver there. 👍
I wanna try it out lmao, I never dont it before but I wanna learn.
I try it out whenever I get the chance, there's over 100 drivers at my company and only 2 drivers I know of that can do it properly
Awesome job…. But that’s what a yard dog is for. Your trailer will right over 👉🏽 when you’re ready. 😂
Dude I'm going through single trailer training right now and just that takes alot of getting used to and concentration. I can't imagine doing a double where I'm at right now. I don't think alot of people have any idea how difficult that is.
It is easy once you get the hang of it, keep practicing, but remember practice the right practice.😀
Agree
But he had a straight line back up also.he just did it to show off was all
@@deannederhoff This just proves you know nothing about driving.
I wish I could back doubles up. I'm still working at it. But sure not to good at it. I would love to be able to do that
Jim Stroupe you just have to have patience like me I used to train for like 20-30 minutes after I was off the clock when I was done with my day and that was because I really wanted to learn.
good job mann youre the best thank you for nice video you did a great job!! keep doing whatchu doing. you inspire me this video makes me feel a future truck driver..thank you again...god bless!!!
is this possible normally, or is there some lock that you can apply to the hinge connecting the two boxes in some way
Watching because of ETS2 is not easy i tell you that. I respect you sir.
