If you were close by I would kiss you. Thank you so much. My grandson was washing the remote, I had to grab it from him and immediately dry it off and open it using your techniques. I used a hair dryer to get the water out fully. Your English is fine and it will get much better, you're a lifesaver thank you. You have a subs from me.
Thank you sister, this helped me fix our remote. Thanks for being so kind to fix the remote for your neighbor friend. Blessings to you & your loved ones.
THANK YOU!!!! I was babysitting my sister and the remote fell off the bed and broke and I had no idea what to do!! I put it back together but forgot the clear piece and couldn't figure out how to open it! You saved me months of grounding!!
Thank you so much I had accidentally threw my Roku remote and it came apart thought I put it all together but that clear piece was the one I was missing I looked at your video and went back to go searching and I found it thank you so much fixing a Roku remote is kind of easy
Thanks a million, I went all over to see if a repair guy could get it done with no luck. God bless you for sharing, keep it up you are a life changer 🙏🏽😊💯🙌🏻
Thank you for taking the time to make this video ! And your English is just fine young lady. My cat thought it would be a good idea to puke on the remote. I cleaned the outside but with in a few hours at stopped working. Like you I wanted to open it without breaking it. Thanks to your video I got it open, cleaned, and back together working fine and no visible damage to the remote. Thanks again !
Thanks for being the first to go boldly where many will need to go in the future to repair their ROKU remote due to moister issues!😉 What not to do...Cleaning the remote with a slightly damp soapy cloth caused a condensation film to build up on the key pad contacts. It stoped working..I wiped the bottom of the key pads and button contacts. It now works!...Needless to say, I’m sticking with an alcohol swab to clean remote from now on!🙈😂
I actually admire you cleaning it, a lot of folk do not realize if they clean their remote after taking the board out, like a keyboard, they last way longer. Same for mouses ect. I was going to just break it and super glue it back but this solved the issue. I just wanted to see the insides.
Thank you, it really helped me to know where those clips are located. I managed to open it very quickly without damaging the cover. Tip: use some flat plastic as a lever.
Great Job. I could not open mine, searched the web no help until I found your video. You should be proud of yourself. I was like you to the point that if it breaks it breaks, then I found your video. I was able to open, clean and fix mine thanks to you posting this video. Oh and yep I used that tough love to get that last part to click closed lol. Again thank you for your video.
Much appreciated! My remote was acting as if a button was stuck even though it wasn't being pressed. Dismantled w/ your clip diagram, wiped them board w/ an alcohol wipe and washed the plastic and buttons. Let fully dry and it works again!
Appreciate your video. Our Roku remote 'right' direction button stopped working. Without it, you can't navigate the screen as you almost always need to go right to get to your selection. Once open, I noticed the conductive graphite was gone from the right button well in the plastic piece. I was able to surgically remove the well from the "sling" (lower left) button with an razor blade (we never used it anyway) and transplant it into right direction button site. Now the remote is back in business.
Muchas gracias, amiga! Muy instructivo. The keys on my Roku remote became unresponsive requiring me to press the keys extremely hard or at odd angles to obtain the contact necessary to make it work. I suspected that the contacts under the silicon keyboard overlay were either obstructed or worn and toherwise making incomplete contact. I also noted most of the videos on Roku disassembly referred to remotes held together with screws, unlike the model you, I and many others have. I wanted to open it carefully without breaking it. Watching your video helped me locate the best leverage points to remove the cover without breaking it, as well giving me confidence that I was on the right track. It was an astute little observation that one should pry the rear cover of the remote up and towards the exterior to allow the edges to pop out. Once opened, what I noticed was that the clear sealant/grease applied at the factory had over time become smeared, uneven and prevented good contact. This clear sealant/grease seems to often be source of problems for many of the Roku remotes- Roku should re-think their sealant. After cleaning with alcohol, paper towel and toothbrush I re-assembled the unit (withou any new sealant) and it now works perfectly. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this fix. It worked awesome! There was some battery corrosion that had built up between the two negative leads on the opposite, not visible side of the circuit board. I used your method to open the case (didn't break or crack), cleaned and anti-fouled between the two contacts, and now I have a working Roku remote again! Getting everything back together kinda sucked, but it was worth it! 😊
Thank you! I have this problem as well. I had an idea it was just clipped together with tags and you have shown me where all of them are! Muchas gracias! I think you can use plastic guitar plectrums (picks) to prise open the case instead of screwdriver. I will try that.
Saludos.
Just a little tip. When you get the flat head screwdriver in the crack gently twist it and the clasps will pop apart. Then slide the screwdriver down and do the same around the entire remote. I just noticed her remote is kind of chewed up from prying at it in multiple spots. Once you get the screwdriver in the first time you won't have to keep prying in different areas. Then it should just snap back shut if everything is lined up. I don't know why she had trouble getting it back together. 😂 Hope this helps! BTW mine had soda spilled on it and wouldn't work at all but once I wiped the board off and got it all clean it worked perfect again.
very helpful video , thanks! I actually have the voice remote model which is a bit different but also no screws and this helped me get started. the voice remote clips together in the opposite fashion, (the rear piece nests inside the front piece) and has extra clips on the two bottom corners. it was very tight but I was able to get it open after starting with those corner clips.
Mine just stopped working and I did what u said and now it's working like I just bought it if I had a million dollars I would give it to u bcuz my remote is what is getting me through this pandemic thank u sooooo muck
sweet! Thank you very much for this. Our old remote button stopped working and I could not find a bloody screw to open the thing up and did not want to break it further. This is just what I needed to know. It also fixed said remote with a complete cleaning.
Thank you so much for this video. I needed to pop up the back just enough to insert the clips back into the top back portion which fell off after dropping on the floor.
thanks for the tip.mine was dropped in beef broth so it was greasy inside.I cleaned the pads and case with hot water and dried with towel..the cca I cleaned with wipes and dried with towel . I reassembled.. installed batteries and it WORKED so thanks alot
lol girl I can not thank you enough for this video! I have been through so many Roku remotes in the last year due to my little ones and sticky wet fingers! I followed your tutorial and after a few minutes of cleaning the components with a Qtip and alcohol it worked!
Thank you! I had problems with hubby pressing the 4 buttons at the bottom (😁), mistakenly changing channels. I opened it up and slide a tony piece of paper underneath. Buttons still there, they just don't work anymore. 🤗
Thank you for the tip. I used a bit too much cleaner, trying to disinfect the remotes in the house. This helped me take it apart and dry off under the buttons. Fixed
I liked your video, and your problem solving approach. Do yourself a favor and don't listen to these stupid comments and suggestions. You obviously are more capable than most of us...
Muchas Gracias! I was looking for a crease and was convinced the case was one piece. Once I got the screwdriver in I kept working the edges until finally it popped. I wouldn't have persisted if you hadn't posted this. Gave the membrane a good cleaning and now it's working again. You don't have a video on fixing lawn mowers do you?
Grasiassss I accidentally washed my roku remote with my bed sheets and it got wet and didn't know how to opened it and I opened it and its working now loll 😂
That oily residue is left by Dielectric grease which is conductive and helps waterproof the contacts. You would use this grease in contacts such as your turn-signal bulbs or back up light bulbs on your cars, also on your spark plugs as well.
Actually, dielectric grease is not conductive and is used to prevent corrosion. If metal connections don't make tight contact with each other, dielectric grease can actually cause problems in some applications. There are conductive greases for some situations and it's always best to research your application if uncertain on which to use. Sorry to go off tangent...
My Grandson almost got thrown out with this new onn roku tv lol... Until I tried this technique. I was like.......well, she does have a lot of good feedback. So I tried it & I got the volume to start working & nothing else did. So I said self, self said huh! Try it apart again and see itf it works without you piecing it back together. So I did,NOTHING!!! Lol... Until I realized that I had the plastic part on the WRONG side. So I flipped it to the right side & guess what? THAT THANG STARTING WORKING AGAIN.LOL.. Thank you for this video 💃💃💃
I have of two of older remotes like the one you repaired that don't work. One won't pair (the lights never flash) and the other won't stop flashing, so it doesn't seem to pair either; although it will work briefly and then stops. The only reason I don't toss them is because they're RF instead of IR (line of sight) and I'd like to use them with my new Roku Express, which only comes with a line of sight remote. Wish I knew how to take that part out of the old remotes and switch the new one to RF..
Great instructions. One thing you didn't address is the orientation of the button pressure pad. I found that it is so difficult to separate the two halves of the shell I lost track of how the thin pad goes in - dimples up or down? I'm feel sure I would have figured it out by now . Then there's always a $14.95 replacement from Amazon...
Thanks for showing me how to open the remote. Unfortunately cleaning it with alcohol didn't fix the problem. My remote pairs with the Roku but none of the buttons work. I haven't been able to find a solution for this. Roku support was useless.
My remote worked fine, I just got tired of accidently pressing one of the quick launch buttons at the bottom. Buttons I never use otherwise. So I took it apart and blocked the contact points for them with a film of glue so they no longer function.
Did the same. Instead of glue I just used a razor to shave the bumps on the inside of the rubber buttons down. Buttons still work - but you would have to push really hard.
If you were close by I would kiss you. Thank you so much. My grandson was washing the remote, I had to grab it from him and immediately dry it off and open it using your techniques. How to replace the battery coil
I’d call them tabs, personally, but I guess they’re all synonyms
Getting this opened so I could clean all the connections with rubbing alcohol and an old (clean) toothbrush revitalized it. Thanks for this video!
Thank you, it really helped me to know where those clips are located. I managed to open it very quickly without damaging the cover. Tip: use some flat plastic as a lever.

AFTER WATCHING ABOUT 3 DIFFERENT VIDEOS THIS ONE WORKED FOR ME.
Thank you for the video. I was able to open my remote, clean the inside with alcohol, and close it very easily. My remote now works very well.
This helped me so much! Thank you so much. I was about to throw it away. But taking it apart was the answer. Works like new again
Thank you! I have this problem as well. I had an idea it was just clipped together with tags and you have shown me where all of them are! Muchas gracias! I think you can use plastic guitar plectrums (picks) to prise open the case instead of screwdriver. I will try that.
