It’s funny, two Jatco CVT’s and well over 100k with no issues. Talking with some amazing mechanics I know, they told me maybe 10% of the people out there actually do required and proper maintenance on their vehicles. Transmission service is one of the more expensive services thus lots of people skip it unfortunately. That is the real issue. That is why I never by used. If you buy used, you have an overwhelming chance that you are getting an improperly maintained vehicle.
My Sentra had transmission failure at 100,000 miles. It’s not even a repairable part hence no reman parts. Plus brand new replacement cost more than the cars value in most cases. They know it’s an issue and don’t care. That’s unacceptable. I will never own another cvt vehicle. I have owned more than ten brand new Nissans since 1988. They used to be very reliable but I won’t buy another with that transmission
@@apolloomd4939 Don't believe these mechanics, just because they fix cars that doesn't make them "mechanical engineers"...CVT transmissions is a faulty engineered product and Nissan refuses to improve them because they are cashing in selling these highly expensive problematic transmissions to their customers for decades...selling parts is a big profit (nice cash cow) for the automakers and they have been enjoying this ride for a long time. That's why!!! Also proof, the massive volume of customers with same CVT complaints does not relate to skipped transmission service on all of the vehicles...right??? Also, most mechanics don't even want to try fix these complex cvt transmissions and only offer to replace them which is an easy way out to resolve the issue quickly but at a high cost to the customer. There's only so long you can fool customers, then you face going out of business.
It will take years to prove that and they dont have years. Better to switch to manuals and non-cvt automatics. I won't buy a Nissan CVT until proven and then only if no other choice....@@TinoMiller
@@TinoMiller I think regardless of whether or not the newer Jatco CVTs are better, the damage that they've done to Nissan in the past as a brand still resonates with the average consumer to this day. If they don't do some serious PR and marketing, it may very well be too late. I really hope Nissan can pull it together 'cause I don't want them to leave the American market like Suzuki, or worse - disappear entirely.
@@cizzlen07 It wasnt the reason but it is a reflection of how the company has been operating over the past 10-15 years, not willing to make the right changes, same for their Infinities.
Not surprised at all! I’ve own two Accords, a Civic, and currently driving a Camry. I have a Murano as a weekend vehicle for carrying my bikes, skis, golf clubs. It’s the most unreliable car I’ve own, had to replaced the CVT, interior build quality, and rust issues.
Nissan needs to ditch all their CVT transmissions supplied by Jatco asap, and replace them with ZF automatic transmissions or Asin transmissions. Why? Jatco CVT's have destroyed Nissan reputation for reliability and durability. I know because I went through two CVT replacements on my Maxima. Nissan makes great engines with excellent durability but Nissan needs to wake up!! I person blame Jatco CVT supplier for destroying Nissan.
@@MassiveGarbage Jatco has (several) traditional automatic transmissions that they could use instead of the CVTs. The 7 speed from the Titan/previous generation Patrol (Armada)/Navarra is a reliable, well-behaved transmission. They also have the Mercedes-developed 9 speed.

@tbr2109 Seriously why tf haven't they just reverted to basic auto? I want to know why their dogshit CVT's are the holy cow they're willing to burn the entire company to the ground over.
Loved my 2009 Z. Amazing for the $. They have never recovered since the financial recession in 2008. Even GTR is still the same. Murano was made so ugly!
The CVT is what killed Nissan, and they had the nerve to put a CVT in an Infiniti. They could've saved Nissan years ago by ditching the CVT. Take the Sentra redesign it, stick a hybrid in it, and ditch the CVT completely. Then stick the hybrid in every other model.
Pfft, Nissan will be fine. They said the same thing about Pontiac, Mercury, Saturn, Oldsmobile, Plymouth, Saab, DeLorean, etc. and they're still around.
Nissan does not deserve this! Hoping that the brand could restore its glory and be cradled by reputable investors and continue for many many years still!
The only thing that could save them is 1. New reliable transmission 2. Hybrid vehicles 3. Better vehicle designs (more aggressive) 4. 10 year warranty 5. Stop the car dealer markups And last but not least “money in marketing”. Advertise that new reliable transmission and 10 year warranty. Win back the customers
I read Nissan reliability is currently above average as per Consumer Reports and JD Power. However their past issues are still haunting them. I have leased multiple Nissans and never had any issues. They offer good value. I hope they can climb out of their mess.
Ask why so many NISSAN customers filed massive class action lawsuits in the last decade? if you never had issues...good for you, I consider that you are extremely lucky!
Nissan bad rep is not only happens among the U.S. customer. They also have a bad rep in Asia (I'm from SE Asia). Their sales plummet around the world, especially in their focused market, which is North America and Asia. Many countries in Southeast Asia, where I came from, don't have a consumer protection law as strong as the United States. Now imagine how much Nissan has to pay if they get sued by a customer in a developing country. Boy, they will be gone into a history book long time ago. I mean, if they can't even make a good sale in Japan, which is their home country. That is something seriously wrong with them.

Never underestimate a Japanese company, no matter what, they always manage to somewhat rise above challenges. Look at Nikon, for example; they also survived its near-death situation.
I personally don’t want Nissan to die since they brought the crazy to Japanese racing since they were dominant. The only issue now is they have dug their grave with companies like Renault who are notorious for terrible quality and Nissan is still suffering from terrible French engineering such as the CVT. If Nissan is to survive they need to match Honda and Toyota’s hybrids and they meed to go back to making their engines reliable and stop making sports cars right now since they don’t have the funds nor do they the competitive price and product since the Z lost to the Supra and other sports cars. The reason the Miata is still selling is the design and how it is priced. It is very reliable something Nissan forgot. If Nissan gets its act together with making more reliable and priced cars people will buy them along with the hybrid power train which Toyota and Honda are making profits. Mazda is killing the market with its designs and sticking to making their cars reliable and adapting to the market which Nissan has, but in the wrong direction. Nissan has one last shot by working with Honda and if they don’t take it they are done and they need to stop thinking of EV vehicles.
Their awful CVTs led to a continued reputation of failure in the minds of buyers, and the subprime lending tactics didn't help either. Hoping they can be bought out by a company that can help them out, maybe Toyota?
Unfortunately nobody is coming to save Nissan and they won’t be the only failure in the next 2-3 years. I expect Stellantis to shed quite a few of their brands including Dodge/Chrysler and maybe they find a buyer for Jeep and Ram. VW group is also going to face some difficult decisions as well. The entire global auto industry is going to go through an incredibly painful transition that will see a much smaller industry with fewer brands come out the other side.
Doesn’t help that Chinese car brands will never come to the US. America’s car market will only stay the same size or shrink, never really grow. When one EV startup arises in America, one legacy car company goes out of business
Bad CVT Transmission since 2003 really did a number on NISSAN!!! Now they need help??? Ask Nissan customers who went through hell with these CVT problems, if they are willing to help?
Nissan did not do themselves any favors by not instilling confidence in their product by avoiding the whole CVT problem fiasco and still to this day has never re-assured the public about fixing or re-assuring the public about their CVTs. So, everyone that has bought a Nissan with a CVT problem has sworn off buying them in the future and word-to-mouth gets around with many others committing to not buy their product. They did it to themselves and are still ignorant to this day. They need someone at the top (CEO) to come out and market how they fixed previous problems and are dedicated to making a strong reliable product that is affordable. It's not hard, but maybe it is for Nissan since people are still questioning those CVTs and it's not worth the bet since nobody at Nissan even mentions it. Good luck Nissan.
And there are many buyers who would like a manual Centra (don't sell in US or a manual in their entry level car which they only put in the most basic option and then don't actually have any in stock....and then say look, no one wants a manual.)
1:30 …good, some companies need to die, or be bought out. They are charging 57k for a 2014 Q50, with a 2024 badge. They could easily be Lexus, but with faster cars and less reliability. Which if you ever read any comments on a Lexus, it’s “just give us the turbo thats in ______ car…this 6 speed is also trash”. So some Lexus owners are willing to give up just a little reliability for a faster, and more fuel efficient IS. Infiniti has such cool cars and concepts, and I think thats the most frustrating part. They can do it, but they have chosen not to. RIP.
My sister bought MY15 Rogue, in 2018, the AC went out with less than 20k miles and in 2019 it needed engine repairs. The paint also started to oxidize, quality is what is hurting Nissan.
They should have been warranting these CVTs for a lot longer, like Hyundai’s 100,000 mi warranty. I have thoroughly enjoyed my Nissan products and love my ‘24 Altima but I was very hesitant to try the brand because of its reputation. I hope they come thru
Hopefully Nissan changes course soon. Just bought a Frontier Pro4x and it's a great truck so far. Very solid build quality, looks GREAT, reliable history, NA V6, and very capable. I chose it over a Ranger, Ridgeline, and Tacoma. I don't understand why they don't lean into their Frontier and Titan more. They make great trucks and anyone I know that has one loves it, whether it's a work truck, commuter, overlander, or mix of all three. Would be so sad to see such a historic company shut their doors.

Really sad to hear Nissan is struggling to this extent. I don't want to see Nissan going away and I really hope that they can restore their glory. I love the Z, the Skyline (G37/Q50/Q60), and the GT-R! And I'm sure they can make good cars if they put their heart into it! Come on, please give what the consumers want: hybrid powertrain, and a reliable, "not-sucking-out-the-fun" transmission. The constant mis-read and miss opportunities on Nissan's marketing is really frustrating to be honest. They need a new market research team as well to fully understand what the market wants. Also, they should not put almost all of their efforts on EVs, putting all eggs into one basket. (Don't EVER pull a Jaguar Nissan!! That's suicide!!)

They should've gotten rid of CVTs years ago. The VC-turbo is waist of resources. They also need hybrids yesterday. They should be building a new Xterra. Maybe they can beg Japanese government to give them a bailout.
Nissan drop the ball and it’s mainly that horrific CVT transmission 🫤 Nissan has good vehicles that transmission is the Achilles heel. I hope 🤞🏾 they can pull through 🙄🙏🏾
The problem with Nissan is they sell nothing exciting. I know zero people who go to a Nissan dealer on purpose. Combine that with their CVT issues - the brand should go away.
I've been trying to buy a Frontier PRO-4X, but they don't want to do any deep cuts on the price, and looking at this, I might just quit looking to get one. Last thing I need is the dealers going out of business, and wind up with no support.
I don't think there will be tariffs on vehicles imported from Japan. The real war is on China and Mexico. There are a lot of cars that are important now from Japan and they do not cause any kind of threat to the United States nor the American worker. Japan is a good neighbor.
Turns out people care about liability. I think people used to buy them because they were cheaper then the competition, ignoring the reliability issues. But Hyundai kia etc took over that market by providing much more fun features and designs. That's my anecdotal point of view, i may be wrong though because I'm not really an expert on these topics.
Nissan basically followed the French which is cheap cars, unreliable, and horrendous engineering. Nissan basically killed itself by ruining their brand with unreliability and killing off some of their best cars. Nissan also didn’t follow suit in hybrids and took the extreme route with full EVs. Car companies that did that got punished like Hyundai, Kia, Tesla, GM, Ford, etc. The big problem with Nissan is they haven’t provided very many design refreshes and power trains to accommodate to buyers. They had competitive crossovers, but they have no hybrids. If they followed Toyota and Honda’s hybrid they would’ve had sales and if they followed Mazda’s design philosophy it would’ve been better for Nissan.
Btw I hope that can survive. I know someone who works at the design studio in Michigan and they told me the next gen Sentra due at the beginning of 2026 is an amazing looking car.
We already knew that Nissan is struggling, but I didn't know it was this bad. I was in Bergenfield New Jersey last year for Thanksgiving, and saw the Nissan/Infiniti dealership I first saw back in 2019 closed down. Maybe that should've been my glaring indicator that Nissan's situation is way worst than I thought. I assumed that they were barely keeping up float since they did release new products that sell like the new Pathfinder, Rogue, and QX60 that drive sales that they desperately needed. I guess that wasn't enough. Maybe this is because of the almost 2 decades of subprime dealership car loans and decline in quality has put both brands in a market position to where Hyundai and Kia were in the 90's. Overall public perception of Nissan and Infiniti has plenty of negative stereotypes that damaged their brand like Big Altima Energy; and how the public views the two brand and its drivers unfavorably as it conjures up stereotypes like subprime loan, low credit score, and reckless driving.
I don't doubt what you are saying. Our local Nissan dealer is offering no deals. All they tell me is that "our pricing on our website is very competitive." I am a cash buyer and it's obvious they don't want my cash.

Guys there’s usually only about $2k in markup on most of these cars, so if a frontier msrps for $48k and they give you $1k off, that’s half of the markup right there if they give you the other $1k off or more they are making no profit or selling it at a lost, how can a company sustain a business by selling to you at cost or at a lost. I think the problem is the price point your looking at if your looking at a new car.
Why so much emphasis on hybrid cars Kirk? Come here to Chile and see your self how much it pollutes to take minerals to build car batteries. Stuff like that needs to be considered as well my friend.

I had a Datsun pickup in 1974 that had a bullet proof little 4 cylinder before they changed and became Nissan, don't know why they don't make that engine anymore.
Just imagine how much Nissan profited from replacing these faulty CVT's on their customers cars??? This is the only explanation, why they would not correct/fix their transmissions for over 20yrs!!!
Kirk, you’re absolutely wrong, the only hybrids really selling are Toyotas. If Nissan made more hybrids and more electric cars, they’d be a deeper shit.
I also don’t get why every YT car person is saying “hybrid, hybrid, hybrid”. Aside from small cars and SUVs from Toyota hybrids are NOT selling in the US. What the NA customer wants is really an ICE vehicle that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. That seems impossible right now with everyone subsidizing their failing EV ventures with ICE price increases.
It unfortunate to hear that Nissan is struggling. As an expat now living in Mexico, and a Nissan owner, Nissan has 4 of the top 10 cars by sales here: Nissan Versa (#1), Nissan NP300 (#2) called the Frontier in other markets, Nissan March (#5) called the Micra in other markets, and Nissan Kicks (#10). Feels like total mismanagement. I believe it was early this year when you showed the CEO saying that the high margin Armada and Murano's would save the year. Both were supposed to be out before 4Q. Then they seemed to drag out the process on both so that only the Armada will see a lot this year and so very late in the year. They needed to stay on schedule. It's indicative of all their problems - too slow to move.
I truly hope they survive! My family has a long history with Datsun/Nissan in the US. 3 generations with my son driving a Versa. All were reliable and inexpensive to own.
All these thirst trap comments are unreal 😂 maaaaan with the way tariffs will be imposed on imported vehicles, I doubt people will feel any more incentivized to buy these cars anymore. I used to work on the JF011E which prominently came in the 4th gen Altimas and a beefed up variant in the 6th/7th gen Maximas. 5th gen Altimas also exhibited issues with overheating especially when it came to higher ambient temperatures. Symptoms of the JF011E CVT was transmission pump whine the hotter and hotter the unit got. The primary source of the problem with these transmissions were solenoids going out alongside the weak heat exchanger Nissan puts on them. I can go on and on about their transmissions. From 5R05 (which was mechanically decent but had valve body issues, solenoid failure, PCB cracks on the TCM) to the JF020E.
Nissan can partner with Toyota to make decent CVT transmissions or get rid of them. I've heard that most Nissan comercial engines are really good... But those transmissions made in china have been a living hell. Jatco Transmissions are still part of Nissan, can't jacto invest with Honda or Toyota to make a decent CVT for the small and midsize commercial vehicles? There are still great Nissan vehicles like the US Frontier using a V6 realiable engine instead of a I4 2 liter engine like Toyota is doing to "reduce emission standards" Nissan offer another Frontier version for Latin America and Europe which is a the NP300 and that vehicle is equally as reliable as the Toyota Hilux and is more secure by ncap standards. Nissan needs to merge with quality and maintain its current pricing with thier models, they need to aquire quality and sell it like quality, they don't need to cheap selling their cars like they did in the 90s, I bet they can sell quality and gain competition once more in order to continue business. Nissan has legendary vehicles that they still make up to date like the GTR for example, I mean its a super car handmade from the best Craftsmens in Nissan... Its a handmade super car starting from the engine and finishing from the interior, its basically a realiable Japanese Ferrari
If I was Nissan I have Launch a Pathfinder Sport or Pathfinder X to compete with the Bronco Sport. They need to reorganize and quit their high end cars/suvs that don't sell due to reputation issues, that were earned. How do they not have a Maverick competitor ? They could use existing SUV platforms and a hybrid setup. Nissan has shown they can make a reliable cheap car, Sentra and Versa recently, not the previous CVT nightmares. They have too many SUV models, narrow them to 3 and do them well. Small reasonable cost trucks and a cheaper midsize truck would save them. Just like Hyundai , how do they not have a hybrid Santa Cruz ?

At over 15 years old I feel like I’m supposed to want to replace it but have zero desire to.
I've noticed that when it comes to Nissan here in CA I do see Sentra more than Altima in the streets. I know that Altema will be discontinued but anyway they have no chance to survive with their CVT and the lack of hybrid power train. So they should focus on getting rid of their conventional CVT and develop something similar to Toyota's eCVT and they should offer some hybrid for Sentra. and if they price it well then they will catch up with the rest. Their cars are nice looking but unfortunately reliability due to CVT and lack of hybrid made it hard for them to survive.

IMO, if they do want to survive, a few things must be done: 1. Divest from evs, full send on hybrids, and bring the epower rogue to NA now instead of dragging their feet till 26’. 2. Either bring the current on-sale Terra to NA, or else just make a suv body for the back half of the current Frontier and call it a day. 3.For the current lineup that lacks any hybrid, get them at least a 48v mild hybrid to deal with the regulations. Should they do catch a break, more changes need to be made: -starting with bringing back the gtr as a hybrid, no need to make it a whole phev though, it’s heavy enough already, and drop the price on the Z -since now the ”xterra” is back, switch the pathfinder to a lengthened FM platform to make it more competitive somewhat, along the way it’ll help qx60 out as well -kill the qx55, dress up the kicks to be a qx30 or something, and update the qx50 to murano level

That's why!!! Also proof, the massive volume of customers with same CVT complaints does not relate to skipped transmission service on all of the vehicles...right???

I went by the Nissan dealership last week and I was shocked by the high pricing
Their bad reputation has finally caught up with them, you can't screw customers with trash transmissions for very long! Karma is real!

Overall public perception of Nissan and Infiniti has plenty of negative stereotypes that damaged their brand like Big Altima Energy; and how the public views the two brand and its drivers unfavorably as it conjures up stereotypes like subprime loan, low credit score, and reckless driving.
this is good. its what it will take for nissan to get rebranded and refocused. Nissan is here to stay regardless of the negative news.

Making the same, being based on the Nissan Rogue but the design should be based on the 1996 to 2004 Nissan Pathfinder, and the rear door handle needs to be in the Pilar like that generation and with some Hybrid Power.
If Nissan got rid of their CVT i'd buy one. Their engines are great, and the interiors are nice, they aesthetically look great in my opinion, they ride nice, but I can't buy a car that has a transmission I know will fail.
Bring back the old transmission back, done ✔️ I saved nissan
I'm literally working at Nissan-Infiniti dealership right now that has been repurchased TWICE in the last three years. I just started here September, and we got bought again October. Our shop is quiet and customers are scared, especially with exchanges for lifetime basic services.
C V T what destroyed the Nissan company 😔
What happens with people who have leases with the if they go under?
I hope they make it. Personally, I like the new Frontier and the upcoming Armada much more than the Toyota counterparts Tacoma and Sequoia.
Personally, I think Nissan & Infinity are about to Disappear into the Sunset [2yrs.] (unless a miracle happens)!!
Toyota gonna buy it
@@andersonrodriguez8258 Toyota hasn't shown any interest in buying Nissan. Honda has and they've actually been looking in to that possibility for some time now since within the industry it's been known for at least 5 years that Nissan was a sinking ship. Honda wants ownership over Nissan's EV technology.
I don’t understand, I have the latest Pathfinder and it’s such a beautiful car. Quiet, smooth and powerful, well built. as good as anything Lexus make. Maybe they just need to sort their marketing out.
That's an absolute joke! You obviously haven't driven The new Lexus! The build quality between the two is night and day Go ahead and keep lying to yourself 🤣
And I would love to buy the Versa
Nissan killed them self with the CVT transmission
They need to reorganize and quit their high end cars/suvs that don't sell due to reputation issues, that were earned. How do they not have a Maverick competitor ? They could use existing SUV platforms and a hybrid setup. Nissan has shown they can make a reliable cheap car, Sentra and Versa recently, not the previous CVT nightmares. They have too many SUV models, narrow them to 3 and do them well. Small reasonable cost trucks and a cheaper midsize truck would save them. Just like Hyundai , how do they not have a hybrid Santa Cruz ?
I was saying the same thing with their SUV lineup ..
I think it should be
-Pathfinder
-Rogue
-Kicks
Maybe the Armada but the Murano was not needed .. Make that an Infiniti product and badge it as a QX50 or something
They all still have Cvts
@@andersonrodriguez8258 Yes but the newer ones Jatco made aren't nearly as bad was my point. Still they should copy Toyota's eCVT...
@@TinoMiller The Patrol (the Armada's real name) is the oldest continually-produced Japanese vehicle nameplate (1951) . The first Land Cruiser came out the same year but didn't actually acquire the name Land Cruiser until 1954. It's also the vehicle with the highest profit margins for the company, and sells better than you might think, so it's probably one of the few things keeping the company's head above water.
Hope they sort things out. I have a Juke that’s 11 years old now and is about to hit 200,000 miles (on its original CVT, no less), and an Infiniti G37 6MT (15yrs, ~114,000).
Matters of work and recreation compel me to replace the Juke with a newer, larger SUV…but I have to admit it’s a bit hard to motivate myself to do. The thing’s been fun, versatile, and reliable.
The G37’s even harder to fault. Ergonomically far more tolerable than its many European competitors at the time, and it’s completely insane how well it’s aged.
I wonder how the “old guard” feels if they are still alive, they ousted Carlos Ghosn in such a way that I hate to say it’s well deserved.
Such a shame my family has been a loyal Nissan buyer, from Tida to Skyline it was an amazing car company….what a shame
He did actually steal money. Some of the best models came out under his leadership though. I will give him that.
@@JohnZornAscended Well I love Japan but their incarceration rate is insane:)
@@AzeriDervish 1000% guilty. Lol
@@JohnZornAscended People forget that Nissan was in serious trouble prior to the Renault "alliance" that led to him becoming its CEO. It wasn't certain that Nissan would make it to 2005 let alone today. The man is a criminal but he also saved the company and things have not gone well since he was ousted.
@ From my observation of the situation, whether he would stop the company from falling or not was based on something the general public could never know. In my opinion this entire merger was rooted in hegemony and some multilateral mumbo…I’m almost positive.
Anyway some of my favorite models like the FX35 and second Gen M45 came out because of his say so. He also green lit the GTR…other than that, it was basically a robbery(My opinion).
By the time he left, Renault a European company owned above 80% of Nissan...
Not sure if that was on purpose and my favorite vehicles are dinosaurs... Shits looking bleak, lol.
They need to bring back the XTerra and make the Pathfinder a body on frame.
Why Nissan contracted JATCO to build their CVT Transmissions especially proven since 2003 that they are horrible quality, and they never thought that customers would retaliate with massive lawsuits which resulted destroying the brand? Cars are not cheap in these days, and automakers are playing with our money. Nissan will learn when it's too late as they became highly stubborn and stupid! This a great recipe on "how to destroy an automaker"...
They own Jatco
IMO, if they do want to survive, a few things must be done:
Should they do catch a break, more changes need to be made:
-starting with bringing back the gtr as a hybrid, no need to make it a whole phev though, it’s heavy enough already, and drop the price on the Z
-since now the ”xterra” is back, switch the pathfinder to a lengthened FM platform to make it more competitive somewhat, along the way it’ll help qx60 out as well
-kill the qx55, dress up the kicks to be a qx30 or something, and update the qx50 to murano level
Looking for a job at Nissan? You’re right on..
Sadly the Leaf was a very good EV for its day, the problem is they fell behind the other EV competitors.
Long time coming, they never knew how to build transmissions (from gears to CVT).
No matter what happens going forward Nissan had its reputation destroyed over its CVT issues.
Followed by engine issues
@@dinsmoor366 that VC-Turbo they’re implementing in their new cars will only make things worse.
They’re going to transfer from having tranny problems to engine problems.
As someone who has been selling Infiniti”s for 4 years. Last month “November” I sold 8 cars not a single new car all used cars mostly off brand Lexus bmw etc hand full maybe 2 or 3 used Infiniti”s. Month before I sold 16 with one new car sold. And that was a 10k off deal on a new QX60
