Thanks for posting this. Great quality film. I must say there was no sense of urgency even after obvious murders start piling up within the town limits. Years ago there was a news report that a black bear bizarrely ventured down from the mountain into our local ghetto and noooobody was on the street that night. 😅 safest streets in years.
Just for trivia's sake, the monster costume was designed by producer Jack Kevan, who was on the creative team for Universal's Creature From the Black Lagoon. The guy wearing the monster suit is actually Pete Dunn, who played Eddie in this flick. So when the monster comes out of the freezer at Kochek's store, he's carrying his own dismembered head! And despite colorized stills showing the monster as green, word is that it was actually a sickly grey/beige/tan color. This is one of the best 50s monster movies out there. That face is HELLISH!
I remember the first time I saw this movie I bought it back in 1992 on VHS tape I've never heard of it but I am was a big fan of horror and Sci-Fi movies from the 1950s so I took a chance on it and I've been in love with it ever since
Saw this on my UA-cam offerings, and had to watch it...considering I grew up in Cambria (north of the town in the film...Cayucos, and about 12 miles south of the real lighthouse). Also, as I was born in 1958, wanted to see what great cinema was all about at that time...🤣. Classic Monster movie....loved it!! 👍👍👍
It had two words that immediately drew me in: *DON SULLIVAN!* "Giant Gila Monster" "The Rebel Set" "Teenage Zombies" Was really saddened when he passed away in 2018. Always loved those movies.
@Brian Salomon lol..more like, "Just put the body next to the other dead bodies over there in the walkway between the Eskimo Pies and the frozen TV dinners!"
Forget the new movies with billion dollar cgi effects. The final scene with the monster and Sturgis at the lighthouse is incredible. It was filmed at the actual lighthouse and the monster and Sturgis and Fred were climbing all over that thing including going up on ladders. That had to be incredibly dangerous, particularly for the guy in the monster suit. Looks like Sturgis and Fred did their own scenes, no stuntman. What guts.
Decent old monster flick. Thanx for posting. This one is considerably classier than many of its AIP contemporaries; "Attack of the Giant Leeches", " I was a Teenage Werewolf " and "Voodoo Woman" and such are enjoyable films in their own right, but they're also schlocky. This film manages to rise above the fifties drive-in kitsch bar.
I remember when the late show and the late, late show weren't talk shows but actually movies! And despite the fact we only had a handful of channels we had a variety of great tv programs! And everything stopped by 1am. I'm happy that we have something to watch after 1am but unhappy about the quality of tv programs. Thank you for showing this classic movie. It's also wonderful I am able to find the movie She Devil. (Not the comedy).
I was sad for the little girl and the dog's death. Remember that little boy with the club foot, he had it going on. He was dressed to the T... He hopped his ass out of that store. Best Actor in the movie.
Brilliant! Made with a budget that wouldn't pay for the coffee drank in one day on the set of today's blockbuster I enjoyed it more. Good acting, nice plot development beautiful drawn characters. Superb B movie.
The town has one old confused cop who has to use the communal jeep cause he doesn't have a police car. And that doctor has to be the worst doctor ever. Take a pill! And the acting was so bad that I couldn't stop watching. Awesome. I highly recommend it.
We loved it for the same reasons. I also enjoyed a tray of coffee cups produced in under six seconds of going to make coffee, the same woman loses her father and moments later acts as if nothing happened? No county or state assistance is asked. On and on. Still, it's fun to watch.

The Willies GP vehicle (General Purpose) is a design from my Great Grand Father, who was on the design board for the US military when they needed an all-wheel, all-purpose vehicle for the military. The book by the title, " Hail to the Jeep" tells the story of the creation of the vehicle. It shows a picture of my grandfather sitting in the first production Jeep, In the front seat, and the president of the company in the driver's seat. Other engineers and designers are standing around the vehicle. You might say, if it was not for the Jeep, my grandfather's "child", the war would have had a different outcome.

2:28 -- "OK, folks, you go on home now, will you? This is not a Roman holiday. Please!" Not a Roman holiday? I had never heard of the expression--only the 1953 movie with Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn. So I looked it up in Wikipedia, which called it "an English expression of Schadenfreude." And my right-mouse-click dictionary tells me that "Schadenfreude is the experience of pleasure, joy, or self-satisfaction that comes from learning of or witnessing the troubles, failures, or humiliation of another." And now it makes perfect sense in this scene.

After a deep conversation, the 3 men brilliantly deduced that the monster went to the butcher's to get food to eat. "Would you think that he either sensed or knew that if he remained there(in the market) he would be fed? Then we have a thinking monster". 😂

Almost every character in the movie drives that one particular motor vehicle. The jeep gets the most use. No additional cars or pick up trucks.
Lo
Holy shit dude you aint kiddin! That bitch had nice titties bur that Willys cj2a definetly the star.
you know your so right about that Jeep. if they didn’t keep loaning it to each other the film would be 4 hours long
Saw this back in 1960, mom was pissed but let us watch. Wonderful getting scared and seeing that thing around every corner...LOL.
"Pissed" ? Was she drunk or angry ?
The trash of yesterday is much better than the
trash of today! ......Or, something like that. 🙄
Daddy's dead, monster's gone, boyfriend's near. Happy ever after.
I think you mean
Happy Endings for Everybody .
That basically what the film was all about.
And that’s the reason why I will always love lighthouses ❤
This movie still provides a frightening atmosphere and the monster is menacing and scary. Better than any CGI crap in the modern world.
It looks like a puppet and it is the clumsiest monster I have seen in a movie, after the "Venusian" in "IT CONQUERED THE WORLD".
@theo9952 no, actually it looks nothing like a puppet and you're full of shit. Go troll ya momma, Stinkums and stop squealing like a little piglet
Absolutely glad I was a kid at this time nothing like great nightmares once in awhile!
@@FernandoGon814 I had scary dreams about this monster as well😄
Always wondered what a "C" picture was. Now I think I've seen one, but not denying retro charm.
The black and white quality is so beautiful . Thanks for sharing
This movie is at the beach and highly entertaining. It’s like late night in CA. Perfect escape!
Loved it, thanks for the upload!! These old sci fi movies are THE best!!
Lucy sure got over losing her dad really fast.
Lucie knew she would be getting a huge inheritance!
Funny and by God it’s true! lol
It must have been that pill the doctor gave her.
She wanted that Jeep. Tired of walking.
Love watching these classic
Movies .
This movie is so bad that it's good! Worth watching.
It had two words that immediately drew me in:
*DON SULLIVAN!*
"Giant Gila Monster"
"The Rebel Set"
"Teenage Zombies"
Was really saddened when he passed away in 2018. Always loved those movies.
Dig those detectives 👂 ears.
You could not have said it better!. The first 2 thirds, it's okay... But as soon as the monster comes out, mistakes and misunderstandings take over
What a fun old horror movie ! Worth watching....classic stuff.
'Where do we put the bodies.'
'Let me make some room in the freezer. You can put them between those other bodies and the Tater Tots.'
😂
@Brian Salomon lol..more like, "Just put the body next to the other dead bodies over there in the walkway between the Eskimo Pies and the frozen TV dinners!"
,,Wayne Berwick , who played little Jimmy , 72 yrs now , did he have a bad leg , or was that an act ?
This film manages to rise above the fifties drive-in kitsch bar.
,,Wayne Berwick , who played little Jimmy , 72 yrs now , did he have a bad leg , or was that an act ?
I remember when the late show and the late, late show weren't talk shows but actually movies! And despite the fact we only had a handful of channels we had a variety of great tv programs! And everything stopped by 1am. I'm happy that we have something to watch after 1am but unhappy about the quality of tv programs. Thank you for showing this classic movie. It's also wonderful I am able to find the movie She Devil. (Not the comedy).
My rule of television: The quality stays the same irrespective of the number of channels.
Such a good upload I love sea settings like this
Decent film.
Great print.
Thank you for uploading it.
Looking forward to seeing it! Awesome job CCC crew!✌👍
Aah! The mysterious hand opening. Good start to any horror movie.
I was sad for the little girl and the dog's death. Remember that little boy with the club foot, he had it going on. He was dressed to the T... He hopped his ass out of that store. Best Actor in the movie.
Poor little Jimmy had to see some thing like that.
Runs all the way over to where the funeral's going on
Wayne Berwick , who played little Jimmy , 72 yrs now , did he have a bad leg , or was that an act ?
In the 50s polio was just as scary as the monster. The image of an iron lunge was terrifying to me.
He was pissed he couldn't get candy.
Brilliant! Made with a budget that wouldn't pay for the coffee drank in one day on the set of today's blockbuster I enjoyed it more. Good acting, nice plot development beautiful drawn characters. Superb B movie.
Monsters sure have come a long way since 1959
From campy rubber suits to crappy CGI =)
Too me backwards at warp speed!
I'm watching this on Halloween. My gift to myself. Thank you for posting.
They wheel the 2 dead bodies into the general store….lol. Love it.😄👍🏾
The shopkeeper is funny to me. Better than a news channel LOL
I want to body surf with Lucy.
@@SuperIliad They should have called in the Army. They should have tried putting out some meat but tainted with poison. The monster eats the meat. The poison enter his blood stream and the monster will now die or experience a serious health problem. If that happens then continue to set out meat with more and more different poisons!!! Eventually, the repeated consumption of different poisons will surely kill him.
a
That Dr is better than mine. He diagnosed a broken collarbone in just a few seconds and didn't charge $150 to do it.
What a fun old horror movie ! Worth watching....classic stuff.
Thank you!
The good old days when you could keep dead bodies in the same freezer with the frozen chicken and beef.
Yeah, cross-contamination my Aunt Fanny!
lester,,, the other, "white meat" ???

@@docmalthus ... You're bored too, huh ???
@@jamesmueller8701 Ha, ha! Not at all, James! I'm cruising along as usual.
Best regards!
Ah! Those jolly old days when you could make a monster movie by having a man wandering around in a rubber suit.
Scared me to death in 63 as a kid. Love to see it . Have this film in my library.
“Here Lucy, take one of these! You’ll feel better in a moment” jeez
LSD
The "miracle" pill. The giant pharmaceutical companies refuse to admit too. Because it would put them ALL out of business!
I know, that era was the dawn of the US on pills: uppers and downers. And it's only gotten more intense sense then.
He's kind'a like Jack Elam in "Cannonball Run" =)
💦👁🌈
The girl was real worried about her daddy after the monster threw him off the lighthouse, wasn't she?
I was disappointed to find that his head was still attached
Hahaha she doesn't care. She's falling in love with Fred. Mua mua mua
Ya.....after she had one of her not so convincing screams, she was all better ! That's when if you listen carefully, you can start to hear the gun toting crowd start chanting...."in the balls...in the balls !!" Then that chick's boyfriend smashes bartender Eddie square in the nuts, sending him over the side and ussunder ! .....AAAARRRRRRRRRRRRR !!
Good one. Rubber monsters are better than computer-generated ones.
This was wonderfully horrible. I loved it.
,,Wayne Berwick , who played little Jimmy , 72 yrs now , did he have a bad leg , or was that an act ?
Haven’t watched it all yet but the preservation quality is wonderful.
Dad injured, brought inside.
Daughter thinks it's the best time to offer everyone coffee.
"She's taking it well."
"She's a fine girl."
"Is it too soon to give her another pill?"

Yeah, and after dad falls off breaking his neck, daughter immediately gets lovey-dovey with dream boat boy.
"Don't shoot. You might hit Sturgess!" Probably not the best advice.
Amazing how engaging this movie is with so little production costs.
Shit, im in the UK and will be sleeping in 5 hours! That said, i've seen this and its totally worth watching. Enjoy, my american friends!
This was an episode in The Simpsons..the monster is actually the real Bart who was switched on accident by Dr. Hibbert.
I live on the coast in the Uk...Guessing this is a normal day for me..!!!
Yellow Jackboots 👍
I just have to ask...Did you get a good night sleep 6mons ago?.
😴😴😴😴😴😴
Honestly, i doubt it 😄
I am one lady loves these old black and white classic movies...now I really enjoy them
I'm looking from argentine!!!!! Thanks!!!! Gracias!!!!
Oh I love movies like this😍😍. Ty for the upload 🥳
Growing up in San Diego we had a show on Saturday afternoons with a Vampira type hostess that showed these kind of Sci Fi/ Horror movies. Everything from Godzilla to THEM! From Creature from the Black Lagoon to First Spaceship on Venus. I miss those movies!! Thank Goodness alot of them are available on You Tube!!
I'm 62 years old we had Boo Theater and it came on Saturday night we couldn't wait for it to come on. Mother made snacks. Or hot chocolate and popcorn
And little chicken salad sandwich pickles. Sliced carrots and celery. Those were the days.
Yeah, they're great movies, but it's been years since you could thank youtube for ANYTHING! Sure, you can find SOME things on youtube, but 99% of the time, you have to PAY to watch something here. Someday, the internet MIGHT get better, but not until AFTER the last living thing in the whole universe DIES!
Elvira... Mistress Of The Dark...
@@franklanders7224 yeah, but I'm not always in the mood for her clever comments on the movie she shows.
Jack Kevan's immortal b-movie monster! Great copy of this film, sharp as a tack.
Looks like HD quality! Awesome!
So few making this and its better than most Hollywood movies now a days.
2:28 -- "OK, folks, you go on home now, will you? This is not a Roman holiday. Please!"
Not a Roman holiday? I had never heard of the expression--only the 1953 movie with Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn.
So I looked it up in Wikipedia, which called it "an English expression of Schadenfreude."
And my right-mouse-click dictionary tells me that "Schadenfreude is the experience of pleasure, joy, or self-satisfaction that comes from learning of or witnessing the troubles, failures, or humiliation of another."
And now it makes perfect sense in this scene.
23:00 He gonna ship a 35 year old woman back to boarding school?
🤣🤣🤣 Now you know she's supposed to be in college 😂😂😂
Loved this film as a kid. Thanks for posting.
@paulnicolosi4792 Glad you found it here!
Oh look Dad fell down the cliff onto the rocks, Yeah well get him to stand up and help him walk home so I can examine him thoroughly!
Dr.-Just as I thought, twelve broken clavicles and he has several limbs missing. Girl - I will make some broth. Dr. - Give him twelve of these morphine tablets, and if he moves, smash him with a mallet!
People were tougher in those days.
Great films from this era! Love the black and white!
You know its gonna be a good flick when the first 30 seconds reveals a claw hand reaching over a rock.
Nice print. Thanks for the upload CCC!
After a deep conversation, the 3 men brilliantly deduced that the monster went to the butcher's to get food to eat. "Would you think that he either sensed or knew that if he remained there(in the market) he would be fed? Then we have a thinking monster". 😂
Hello there,
How are you doing ?
I think he opened a fish stall after filming was over..😂
I love this Channel thanks I grew up watching these classics 🇺🇸👍👍👍👍👍😁
A good old fashioned b-grade creature feature. Loved it! Thanks for finding it guys. I do think they could have done a better job on the monster. Creature From The Black Lagoon comes to mind. That was in the '50s and was a great monster. The oldies are still great! 🇨🇱
The two monsters are quite alike!!!!
@@pabloperez4063 I remember reading somewhere that the suit was made from repurposed parts of the Creature costume, but I don't know. The Gillman looks much better to me.
Those were such cheap special effects and costumes and yet the movie is SO fun to watch. Loved it. thanks :)
