- It's funny to think of a Club Cab as being mind-blowingly spacious by today's standards, but back in '95 it was a big deal for the Dodge Ram.

Some people believe this is the last known video footage of this generation Ram with an uncracked dash.
Come to Canada, none of them are cracked.
@@jonthebuildingmanager2896Come to Texas, they’re all cracked 😂😂
@@darthdarthbinkssThat's why I haven't seen an uncracked one since the mid-90s. Most of them here have holes too large for a dash mat to conceal the damage.
@@jonthebuildingmanager2896Climate change is coming for your Ram dashboards

The perfect truck to do a little tornado chasing with.
Nah this is the truck you chase BIG tornados with
What's the name of movie again?
Twister
@@chelli95 thanks!!
I remember seeing that movie in theaters when I was a kid and thinking how awesome that truck was. I’ve owned nothing but dodges since. I didn’t realize until years later watching the movie again that it was a 2500 v10.
The 2nd Gen Rams still look amazing all these years later. They really changed everything!
This generation of Dodge Ram is force, resistent and furiuos. Beautiful this design of turck
Ah yes, the Twister truck
These were revolutionary when they came out and looked like nothing else.
certainly, i’ve always preferred chevy but dodge really upped the game with this generation. if you look at other trucks when this was released they looked like dinosaurs, vs by the end of this generation they mostly all copied dodge
Yet kept the underpinnings of the 1970s era square trucks.
Drove a V10 3/4 ton for a couple years. It sucked fuel at an unbelievable rate, but it was a solid truck that could pull a trailer in the mountains without backing up traffic too badly, and it was comfortable to drive long distances. It's the only work truck I miss.
That V10 is a monster engine! Ford had to build the 6.8l V10 and GM the Vortec 8100 just to keep up!
As for the first extended cab truck available here in North America, it was manufactured by Dodge and called the Club Cab back in 1973.Nov 13,
This generation RAM was the best looking truck when it came out.
Cool video... I still own a 97 Ram SLT 360 V8 Club Cab 4x4 that I bought brand new. Original drivetrain untouched has ~240K. Replaced the dash (LMC). Updated the grill, front bumper, side-view mirrors from Ram Sport parts bought on eBay. Updated the speakers from Crutchfield. Fun, versatile truck I intend to keep.
One owner myself has been enjoying the 2nd gen 1999 Dodge Ram Basic model Club Cab SLT 1/2Ton short 6ft Tray 5.9L V-8 Auto-Gearbox & Equipped Transfer-case 4x4 kept up with regular maintenance. Year 2024/01/01 Miles 303,289
Overhaul year 2015; 1-OEM Engine was 10W-30 now 10W-40, 1-OEM Auto-Gearbox ATF+4 & 1-OEM Transfer-case. (!)NOT FOR SALE(!)
How neat is that
These Rams were SO revolutionary style-wise, but I have to admit that I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the previous (and far stodgier) models that ran from ‘72 through ‘93……..😊
I have a sentimental spot for them too. I learned how to drive in a '74 Adventurer twin cab. Three speed manual and power nothing. I'm convinced whoever designed the clutch and brakes for it went on to create the Nautilus exercise equipment. My dad figured if I could drive it well I could handle just about anything else.
Revolutionary truck that changed the game. I see a ton of them still on the road, more than Ford or GM from that era. The mint ones are going for high buck, they held their value nicely. Well done Ram.
It’s a great truck for chasing Twister’s! 🌪️
MOPAR was really challenging the status quo of styling in those years. They led the groundwork for a lot of vehicle styling we see today. Most cars and trucks still had sharp angles.
Can’t believe how modern this still looks. Guess that’s why they stuck with the design for 30+ years
Same with BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Volkswagen. You recognize them the minute to see them because of continuity.
Yes this design aged far better than the 97-up Ford and 99-up Silverado. Still TONS of these on the road
Takes me back to Twister and Walker Texas Ranger. Good trucks, still see them and the GM trucks of the time roaming around.
"Is that a cow?"
I havent seen a 90s gm truck on the road in years. All I see is dodges and Fords. Mostly Fords. GM and dodge just dont hold up as well as Ford. Especially in a harsh cold weather climate like Canada. Its rare to even see newer gm trucks here. Nobody likes them.
Oh man I remember the Dodge Ram on Walker Texas Ranger! In Georgia I still see many of all of the full size 1990s American trucks every day. The Ram’s styling has held up well and the full size Chevy and GMC trucks still look good for their age. Same for Ford.
@clintonstubbs2319 I think it was a peak era in design as well as simplicity while being modern enough in some regards. I think if you could get s brand new one of any of the big 3s trucks from the late 90s no one would turn it down.
I seldom see 90s GMs, if i do its either a reallt clapped out half ton, or a decent 3/4. But usally the frames are fucked
I owned a new 94. I’ll tell you. That truck ran through deep snow like crazy. Loved it. The truck was reliable and after I traded it I saw it often around town for many years. Rust was a problem for the owners after me but the truck was just fun to drive.
when trucks were still trucks nothing fancy, no stupid tailgate that opens 4 different ways no big ass touch screen junk. straight to the point
I think this Dodge restyle was the biggest thing to happen to truck design in my lifetime. It changed the way Ford, Chev and Dodge had all been fairly similar and uninspiring looking square box designs going back to the early 70’s.
Yes, but the 1997 F-150 design had been completed 2 years before this episode anyway.
my all time favorite Dodge RAM line. some of the best looking trucks i have ever seen. im a gm truck fan but the dodge ram is my second favorite truck line. i liked it even more when it got that much needed refresh in '98 with the intro of the then all new quad cab config replacing the old club cab, the electric shaver sounding door chime with the more pleasant sounding bong bong bong chime, the old outdated rectangular side mirrors with the modern looking oval shaped blacked out ones, the dash got a nice makeover as well. my uncle is a mopar and ram guy and has been for decades and he had wicked beautiful 1999 ram 1500 4x4 with the monstrous 5.9 magnum v8 coupled with an aftermarket dual exhaust and boy the hair on my head just stood up everytime i rode in that thing. he put almost 300,000 miles on that bad boy. bought it almost like new in 2000. the one feature that stood out was the rainbow gray colored cloth seating.
'95 Ram's had a chime, which was my favorite from Chrysler. Not sure why they went back to the buzzer for '96-7. It's the only complaint I have about my brother-in-law's '97 Ram 2500 w/ 12v.
You had to be there to understand how much these trucks changed the market. Sure, the build quality was typical dodge (outside the engine), but the style and the motor caught ford and gm flat footed.
The look and design are a great study in marketing. When first shown to test groups it was very polarizing. People either loved it or hated it. Chrysler was about to go with a more traditional look when someone dug deeper into the research. The people that loved it were far more likely to buy a truck than the people who didn't. It was decided that the second group were non customers regardless of how it looked and chose to ignore them.
@christopherconard2831 My dad was a long-time Dodge truck fan. When these came out, he was still driving his '77 Macho Power Wagon. He absolutely HATED the new style. A few years later, he bought one.
Should be said, he eventually sold that '98, but still drives the '77 today. I'm just coming up on 12 years in my '99 Dakota R/T.
But the F150 still outsold it… by a lot
@robolsen3506 You have to remember, in 93 Dodge had like 5% of the pickup market, if even that. And a lot of that was Dakota. They went from that to being even with GM in 2 years. They were limited by the size of the factory. Ford were then and are still today the kings of fleet sales. A lot of those OBS F-series (Ford likes to lump them all together) were white-painted company rigs, ambulances, tow trucks, etc. Because companies had long relationships with Ford. Ram has only VERY recently started to crack into that segment.
That's not a diss on Ford at all; they have EARNED their dominance of fleet sales by superior support and flexibility. While a 1996 F-150 would look relentlessly old-fashioned in the driveway, your boss would buy 35 of them. He knew that he could take them into a dedicated fleet service center for a quick turnaround, rather than take a fleet Ram or Chevy into the service department of the dealership and get offered a Neon or Saturn loaner for 3 weeks.
The build quality is perfectly fine, especially where it matters. These trucks can take a beating, my family has been running one for many years & it has well over 200,000 miles on it.
0:52 that guy in the middle definitely thinks Ditka can singlehandedly defeat their next opponent eighty-tree to nuttin. Daa Bearsssssssssssss
The slalom at 2:22 looked as if he was dodging farm equipment that was raining from the sky while helen hunt screams
Looks better than the current 2024 Ram. And I'm not being facetious.
$25,102 for a full-size, extended-cab, 4WD pickup... Good luck finding one today for less than $50K! Truck prices are *insane* now!
I remember when these first came out. They were a *very* big deal -- the styling was like nothing else. *Everyone* wanted one. Then after awhile things calmed down -- particularly after folks realized how terrible the transmissions were, but that took a couple of years. As long as you were prepared to spend $2K on a transmission replacement every 80,000 miles, they were fine. 😂
Very popular truck here in Florida! 🤠🇺🇸
I worked at a Dodge dealer in 95. They ate transmissions like candy! I liked the trucks though! In fact, my old man bought one brand new and it was a great truck for him.
I've got an 01 with over 200,000 miles on the original transmission.
Awesome classic. This and the 3rd gen ram are the best looking trucks ever made
I'm not a big fan of the 3rd-gen. I think this and the 09 were the best looking Rams. But my vote for best-looking pickup ever goes to the 97-04 Dakota. I loved them when I was a kid, and so I bought one. Drove my 99 R/T just yesterday.
My dad has one and it’s at 300k miles and still chugging along on its original engine and transmission. The dash is destroyed tho lol
My high school agriculture teacher had a 1998 Dodge Ram club cab with the two-tone exterior color option. I love the way it rides and it has plenty of room although the front passenger seat don't wanna stop sliding while it was moving.
So my friend's parents have one of these trucks. And he was driving it for a while. Well, he told me 1 day that his truck kept overheating. When I checked it out for him there was no coolant. I asked him how long he had been driving it like this and he said a month😶 That was 5 years ago. they still have the truck Somehow it didn't blow a head gasket or warp the head. I believe it was a 5.2 motor but damn I was impressed
I loved this era of Dodge. My family had a '99 Durango with the big 5.9l engine and 4wd. It was tons of fun until the trans went out lol
50k mile transmissions
3:23 "...shortages at dealers...". Been a long time since I've heard That about ANY vehicle.
when trucks were trucks
In 1993, when I saw the preview of the new big-rig look of the 1994 Dodge Ram at the LA auto show, I knew that it would be a big hit, that I bought Chrysler Corp. stock. Mercedes/Daimler merged (bought them out) in 1997, mainly to acquire Jeep. Turned out to be a good move, still have Daimler stock, and their spinoff, Daimler truck, as a result of the merger. I have a 2005 Dodge Ram quad cab with a 6 speed manual transmission, which you can not get anymore.
That is so cool, although the merger happened in 1998.
From someone who didnt really get to experience this era of vehicles i would do anything to go back in time.
My 1995 3500 v10 has always pulled a 5 wheel and still does to this day. Damn great truck
"Trucks are for work sights". Oh how times have changed. Now a truck is a living room on wheels. And the roughest thing it will probably encounter is a shopping center parking lot.
*sites
I remember this Dodge and the 1997 F-150 being a big deal as a kid. That's considering I grew up in a GM family. But the GM trucks evolved slowly they didn't have big styling jumps from old to new like Dodge and Ford. I was elementary school age but if you rolled up in a new body style F-150 Lariat you were a BFD amongst the kiddos.
Right at $50,000 adjusted for inflation... so the cost for luxury/high trim pickups has essentially doubled. 😮
Tornado proof 😂
A few years ago, I bought a 1999 Ram 1500 Laramie for $500 becauseit had a failed heater core. I drove it 70,000 km and sold it for $2900, but had about $3500 into it counting R&M. The 5.9 didn't need oil added between changes.
Walker Texas Ranger himself might as well have been coined Truck Norris
Those are everywhere where I live everywhere you turn there's a Dodge Ram! They must have did something right!
such good looking trucks man still fit with contemporaries today imo
Love this gen of Dodge Ram's so much
The Walker Texas Ranger truck and "I wanna be a Kenworth" styling.
How interesting that in almost 30 years, the price of a truck has almost tripled, yet the salaries of the people who buy them are probably not much higher than they were then.
😮25k for a new Ram!
Most people remember that Bill Paxton drove this truck, but forget that Chuck Norris did too.
I knew a man who bought a 2000 1500 4x4 with 5.9L new. Last year with the SAS? Anyway, he had it. He said it was rock solud, reliable, and never had a problem. Nice truck.
Reminds me of the movie Twister 🌪️.
the Twister truck 🌪 🐄: : : . .
We got cows
I find it ironic that this Dodge Ram is the same age as Dua Lipa, and on a movie called Twister. Both Dua Lipa, and Twister are Warner Brothers products.
Walker Texas Ranger first versions Ram in tv series. I come from Poland Europe but I remember this new Design at that time it was quite futuristic then. But today looks fantastic !
Well, $25k in 1995 is $50k today with inflation. And that's a pretty basic truck compared to todays
@@bheron01 ...This truck has abs,disc brakes,power windows....
Sure new trucks have more power tire pressure monitors and back up camera but you dont really need those last 3 items,I back up better with my mirrors!
@@mypronouniswtf5559 Well, tpms and backup cameras are required by federal law. So there is that.
Inflation is a scam
$25,000 for new truck? Those were the days 👍👍
One of the best engines dodge ever made. Mine has 355k miles on it and is still rolling. Original engine. Of course it’s not the original transmission, why would you even ask that?
I wonder if they knew how the transmissions would last
The problem wasn't the transmission exactly, just a more fickle maintenance routine. Do a fluid, filter, AND a band tightening at each scheduled interval, and they go forever. Most people didn't do any of that, and were sold transmissions when they came in for transmission issues
Proud owner, and driver of a Flame Red, 1996 Dodge RAM 2500 “Sport” (Original owner) on my videos, in my profile.
Always did like this generation of Ram trucks. I like the way she sits. 👍🏿
The price of this truck will skyrocket after the new twister movie
The funny part is this sized truck is considered mid sized now...
Ehhh, not really. These were substantially bigger than the current crop of midsize trucks like the Tacoma. The Dakota of this era was a bit smaller than the current midsize class (but came with 3 different V8s, because Dodge).
@@JETZcorptodays Colorado is close to the size of this old Ram

People didn't know how good they had it
Man I just know I was born too late to enjoy the brand new cars of the 80s and the 90s (I was born in 98) but atleast now I can own them and be able to fix them with the internet being so readily available. And Bluetooth because jumping from Simple Minds to AC/DC and then to CW McCall is nice.
I never heard they widened the tailgate for 95? To accept campers more easily? Anyone know if that’s true?
Ah, yes, the pickup that sent Detroit scrambling and gave birth to the Ford Super Duty as a separate model.
🎶cause the eyes of the ranger are upon you 🎶
that pricetag in modern money is 50,395 dollars, good god
Vehicles were always expensive!
While it trades a Hellcat V-8 for a Hurricane straight-six, the RHO keeps the TRX's wide body and hardcore off-road hardware.Nov 6, 2023
No, the lacking was the front suspension. Which failed after 30,000 miles. And had to be rebuilt. Not to mention the locking up front wheel brakes. And electrical problems. I had a coworker who bought one of these in 1994, and his truck spent 65% in the shop for repairs.
So many club cab sports with 5.9 v8 4x4 of course up by canada
Haha “manly” transfer case = clunky and old fashioned but works just fine 💀 Interesting to see a full size truck that has such a good simple practical dash vs todays overwrought sci-fi tactical ones idk
I'll take it anyway over the pushbutton electric junk you see today
When will we hopefully see a retro review of the v10 ram 2500?
Or the Cummins
When I was a kid and I saw one of those I thought it was cool and looked like a big rig. Still see a lot of those trucks in Georgia, along with the other trucks like Ford and Chevrolet, from the 1990s.
The first crew-cab truck in the United States was made by International Harvester in 1957 and was later followed by Dodge in 1963, Ford in 1965, and Chevrolet …

That’s about $52K in 2024 dollars. That’s how bloated 1/2 ton truck pricing has become since the mid 90s.

Agreed.
These were definitely a revolutionary design, especially for Dodge. I remember when I first seen one, couldn't believe it was a Dodge because thier previous truck design ran for over 20 years ,(which I happen to like too). I think this design has aged very well.

Walker Texas Ranger
The most beautiful truck.
These trucks took over where i lived ford was still pushing there 70’s truck the chevys/gmc wrre bland.
Very nice looking trucks but the built quality hasn't held up at all. Cracked plastic, leaking exhaust manifolds, etc.
id rather have a BRAND NEW 1995 Dodge Ram with a 5.9 over a BRAND NEW truck from any of the big 3 today, prices are ridiculous.
Prices are high. But don’t be stupid, there’s a reason they cost more. Safety, power comfort, capability ect. Way better products today than ghey used to be

Not sure why they bothered to load up the converter and launch it like that.
30 years later and Ram still looks the same
Came standard with exploding transmission! 😂
$20,000 I'll buy 4 and it still it will be cheaper than 1 modern day truck.
$20,000 in 1995 is approximately $40,200 today.
@@Edsecondstocomply can hardly get a new truck for $40,000 now uhg

Even with inflation, this is an affordable full sized pickup truck that you could afford. Its so cheap it starts in the mid size range that we have today. Wow. The power quality was way down on these, but man was it ever affordable.
$40000-50000....Higher Laramie is questionable for most but unfortunately $40000 is the average cost nowadays
You can actually buy new trucks cheaper than this truck! You have to look around, you are looking at top model luxury trucks...For 40-50k today you get a truck with more options, more power than this one here that cost $50,000 in todays dollars!
You can get a new full size for roughly the same price 😂

That's a pretty truck.
It reminds me Chuck Norris in Walker, Texas Ranger.
