- This is the parade on Moscow's Red Square devoted to the 78th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War. Taking the salute is Russian Defense Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu. Commanding the parade is Supreme Commander of the Russian Ground Forces, General of the Army Oleg Salyukov. Music performed by the Combined Orchestra of the Moscow Garrison, conducted by Major General Timofey Mayakin.

The first time in over 40 years that the march “On Guard for Peace” was not played on the Red Square parade. It was the staple and one of the longest-standing consistent marches in the repertoire.
@@SuperUshistory With the sudden decision to truncate the parade, it's possible "On Guard of Peace" was to be played in the section of the parade that was cut. In early rehearsals tanks and armor columns were included. So the decision to cut the parade down was a sudden change. Most likely after the drone strike over the Kremlin several days ago.

For everyone commenting "why no tanks?" There was a terrorist threat, in the interest of public safety, especially for the lives of the old veterans, the parade was scaled back at the last minute.
Not only that, it seems some last minute decisions were made. Take for example the 2022 parade, it had jets and planes during the rehearsals on May 7th but they scrapped the idea at the last minute two days later. The tank situation seems to be the same, no point in having all that hardware concentrated in a small place, it just creates an incentive for the Ukrainian military to strike it.
@@MaximusandHistory Not to mention the tanks move much more slowly now across Red Square when compared to Soviet times when they moved at fast speed.
@@RedSamurai84yeah I think the older engines of the T-72 and T-90 can’t really handle the weight of all the retrofits and upgrades they’ve received over the years. Honestly I’d like to see more historical vehicles like BT-7s and the T-26

I think this parade is already one of the best in this particular period. Conductor Timofey Konstantinovich Mayakin's style is a bit similar with former chief conductor ,general Nikolai Mikhailov's
I concur. his conducting style has improved since Khalilov's passing
did you know that there was a real nuclear warhead present in this demonstration? if detonated, it would kill everyone in moscow, and the fallout would kill 85% of eastern europe from the one warhead.

With this parade, General Oleg Salyukov has now commanded 10 consecutive military parades on Red Square. This is the most by any modern post-WWII Soviet or Russian General. The previous record was held by General Vladimir Govorov at 9. Minister of Defense Shoigu has also presided over more Red Square military parades at 11 than any Soviet or Russian Minister of Defense. Presumably, only Marshal Voroshilov presided over more parades in the pre-WWII era.

It was too short tbh, it felt very similar to the older 2000's parades, which had no vehicle segment and no airshow! Definitely a set back that hasn't been seen in over a decade!

my personal favorite vday parade is 2018 when they introduce su-57 and kinzhal hypersonic missile
