Joni Mitchell released Blue, concluding her prolific four album run for Reprise Records with an album considered by many to be one of the greatest of all time. Its stirring, confessional songs have been celebrated by music lovers and critics alike for decades while inspiring a wide variety of artists as diverse as Prince and Taylor Swift. Even today, its stature as a masterpiece continues to grow. Just last year, the album was named #3 on Rolling Stone’s list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time.”
To celebrate the album’s 50th anniversary, Rhino is releasing THE REPRISE ALBUMS (1968-1971), the next installment of the Joni Mitchell Archives series, featuring newly remastered versions of Blue (1971) and the three albums that came before it: Song To A Seagull (1968), Clouds (1969), and Ladies Of The Canyon (1970). In the case of Song To A Seagull, the original mix has been recently updated by Mitchell and mixer Matt Lee.
The cover art for THE REPRISE ALBUMS (1968-1971) features a previously unseen self-portrait Mitchell sketched during the time period. The collection also includes an essay by Grammy winning singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile, another artist who’s been influenced greatly by Mitchell.

I love that Joni is preserving her legacy for all time. 💔❤️
She has been a huge influence on me. Basically I was inspired by her as a kid and learned how to write songs by listening to her albums and studying song structure. I think I've probably listened to Court & Spark about 5 million times...
@@danielmconnolly7 love this ❤
Joni is one of the few artists who truly has impacted my life in profound ways with her music. Such a true iconoclast and pioneer.
These words speak louder today than it did over 50 years ago. Why I
I hope Joni is ok and safe! We are still in love with her music
There is nothing to fear. If you allow someone to convince you that you are in danger, your true peril is being manipulated by those with a dark agenda...
@@suzycreemcheeze446 I'm glad you haven't seen anyone die gasping for air after being healthy their whole lives. Many friends have lost their parents, even siblings in less than a year. Agenda? Ok, sure. I see more privilege than anything else, and it's ok, too. I'm not afraid, I'm just wishing Joni a good life.
@@allisoffmusic get her Allison. That was well-written
@@allisoffmusic Hey, by all means be afraid...be very, very afraid...if that makes you feel better. 👍
@@suzycreemcheeze446 Not afraid, just sharing things I've seen/lived. I know it makes you feel better to talk about the evil "agenda" in random youtube comments that had nothing to do with that. Be pissed, by all means.
In my mind this love of my lifetime has always had the ability to literally communicate with the angels. Thank God for Joni Mitchell.
After hearing a bunch of reprises, the original still remains the best version.
It sure does
Joni. Brilliant social commentator, rocking musician. Still relevant. Thank you.
Awesome, the message the same. Love you Joni, thank you for your genius lyrics though our souls to the earth. Nobody will ever replace you.
Listen to that voice
I love this song. I didn't know that it was called Big Yellow Taxi until tonight. I know the words . She is a legend
She is indeed and my all time incomparable artist.
I Love It too. I didn’t know its name, some words, or even Joni Mitchell. I’d heard a man’s version of this song in 2006 and thought his was pretty great, but finally finding this Original Gem is truly like nothing else, and I wish I could have The Seventies come back, to see how things were when She did this Song.
We love you Joni!! 💖✨💖
More relevant today than ever,a wake up call for every generation. Play it loud.
A divine artist who always is true to herself.
Respect.
Her laugh at the end is my favorite moment in pop music
I love this song
as time goes by music from this time comes to mean more and more....
i so love joni
Brilliant lyrics sung effortlessly by a great artist. Completely unique and original. Incomparable!
A beautiful song that touches my heart.
🔮Joni's🔥🌲prophetic.
🇨🇦✌🏻🎶🌲💔✨🌎💫
Her timeless masterpiece lament about commercialism & it's tragic corresponding consequences, amazing as well as sad, that someme in their late 20's could have such foresight that must have weighed heavily on her knowing many at the time, couldn't see the truth she could see until it was too late!
i love joni.
How are you Joni? I love you. I've enjoyed your music since I was 13 years... 💛 🙏
evergreen!!!
I always thought this song was by Counting Crows , but I like this Original way better !!!!
Brilliant.
Just heard 13 year-old Emily Linge (HUGE fan of Joni) do a wonderful UA-cam cover of Joni's 'River'. Hope Joni has time to listen to to it. I've been a fan of Joni since her first recordings in the late 1960's. I loved her voice then, and I love her voice now.
Sadly Joni still telling us as it is all these years later and we haven’t learned a thing!
Love this!
new fan 2022!
Brilliant! 💛
Hello From San Francisco ! 🌊🔥🔥🌊
Much love to ye Joni from Mayo in the Western edge of Europe! You are awesome, thanx for posting.
An amazing song to listen to every morning! ^w^
Wonderful!!!!
How did it take this long to remaster Joni Mitchell! Just glad it finally happend!
She has a very unusual style of guitar playing. Her voice is amazing on this recording. Bone dry vocal. No FX or tricks.
New verse for this century:
"They burnt down the Amazon
For a beef burger in a bun"
Beautiful❤️
When the record company first heard this they couldn't believe their luck.
So cute! (Actually clever orchestration)
The best, i love you !!!! 😍❤
Sounds fucking great. God bless JM.
As they cut down very old pine trees at work today, I had tears in my eyes & I started singing your song & shared it with my younger coworkers that didn't know your song! Thank you Joni!
Carried by jellow taxis, or what? 😅
@@martinbrode7131 😢
we will always love you sir
They should have named it They Paved paradise to put up a parking Lot 😊
선생님 사랑합니다
I've actually learned that on my Guitar
Quelle voix magnifique, I love you ;)
❤️❤️❤️
We trying to get our students take care of farmers Belmont University
Well you can’t listen to her on Spotify anymore lol 😂
Who gave this a thumbs down? Are they mad?
Hey Joni! Hope you’re feeling as good as you can be given the Tarzan diagnosis you have! That is tar sands from Canada! Anyways, I love this song and it always takes on a new meaning. Do you member Marin County not far from Millvalley? Well they built this meditation center they’re called Spirit rock and they have a huge parking lot. The main guy there Jack cornfield told me he was Bob Weir! I told him that we’re going to take over his animistic rock and make it into it park! That’s what I mean by making an old song new again, thanks for that wisdom journey Joni!
In Ireland they are paving over beautiful parts of the countryside with concrete and steel for wind farms. Disgraceful that we haven't moved on at all since this wonderful song.
I’m wondering how this is a remaster? Love the song. This sounds exactly like the original: even down to her laughing at the end. Confused...
Remasters typically take the same studio recordings of each part and combine them with better technology and balance than the original releases.
I love the reverse-image-stabilization look on this... but maybe they stabilized it *too* much? ;-)

What instrument is the one she has in the photo?
@@Westguy66 Thank you.
Man I pissed I want this song but can't find it on Spotify wtf.
She wanted Spotify to remove joe Rogen or her songs and they went with joe

Joe Rogan Rocks, Joni...I left you behind with my childhood...
RFS Israel *
Bob Dylan fucked up this song when he covered it in 1970
I'm ashamed to admit that I had the idea, that this amazing musical composition was created by The Counting Crows...
Sold her soul for a dollar, sad.
a song in which Joni complains they paved paradise to put up a parking lot, a measure which actually would have alleviated traffic congestion on the outskirts of paradise, something which Joni singularly fails to point out, perhaps because it doesn't quite fit in with her blinkered view of the world. Nevertheless, nice song
F Spotify
Okay so this version is terrible, but isn't the version they recently started torturing store employees with over here...
Spotify lost nothing...she has no voice...feels like she's talking nonsense over crappy forgetful music.
Joe Rogan is a disinformation agent working for Israel encouraging people to not get vaccinated so Israel can continue using sars-cov-2 as a biological weapon. Why do you think he hangs around other Zionist shills like Ben Shapiro and Dave Rubin?
And yet no one bar me has even acknowledged your comment.
Go listen to a nursery rhyme, leave the profound for the adults.
👎👎👎
Imagine how much natural beauty has been destroyed on this earth since this song was made
Imagine writing a song that is still relevant 50 years later.
Yeah but have you seen the standards of music now days....everything is accepted and liked enough to get out there now too because of the internet. This is an actual GOOD song, so according to today's standards this is an absolute GOAT masterpiece. Lol
It's more relevant than ever. The industrial revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race.
How about over 400 years?
“For it so falls out that what we have we prize not to the worth whiles we enjoy it, but being lack’d and lost, why then we rack the value, then we find the virtue that possession would not show us whiles it was ours.”
In 50 years from now, it will be even more relevant...
Even more relevant now! Visionary.
I am in love with Joni and her music since 1970 when I listened to "Ladies of the Canyon" for the first time.
It's so hard to believe Joni wrote this brilliant song at the age of 27. You can tell her wisdom and experiences by the lyrics, especially by this one: "don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got til it's gone.", which always gets me.
Joni Mitchell never lied here!
When I was 5 years old I knew the meaning of, you don't miss the water till the well runs dry.
One of the greatest artists to have ever walked on the planet, pure joy.
Genius! Where’s _her_ Nobel Prize?
🎖 🎸👩🦳 🎸 🎖
Yes, I agree!
Ty Joni for bringing so many beautiful songs into my life :)
Joni, thanks so much for posting this today. I always try to listen to this song on Earth Day. Your music made living simultaneously with you such a joy. Peace and love to you.
This is simply timeless, as few songs can be. The simplicity, beauty, and pure feeling Joni brings to her songs has few parallels from that or any modern era. The humility, joy, and playfulness she brings as a young old soul shines through to this day, and she could do more with a few chords and heartfelt lyrics in a matter of a few minutes than many others could hope for. She captures an era and gestalt succinctly, and this stands the test of time alongside many of her tunes.
Thank you Joni, perfect song for Earth Day. I listened to your music since I was a young girl in the early 70’s, I had every album and every song memorized. Thank you.
Yay, Joni !! Thank You, Canada.
The lyrics sum up what Man actually did to the whole planet. Paved Paradise, put up a parking lot...
The Brazilian percussion in this is amazing!
Why they making this harder & harder to find? This original, young Canadian/French girl version of miss Mitchell is the absolute best. Nothing against Counting Crows. CC boss for their own isht. Joni, Joni deserves it all for this one, though, IMHO. 🤷♂️
💙💚💛🧡💜❤️
I remember this song from my childhood loved it then and I still do and appreciate even more 50+ yrs in 🇯🇲 Jamaica still living here in my homeland brings back great memories
This reminds me how brilliant you are on so many levels !
I still visit Matala, Crete whenever I can - just to be where you were in 1970.

still so poignant all these years later, everything is for sale today sadly
Yup
King Richard...parking lot...Lil Blu...
In the top 5 of my musical influences, the acoustic Hendrix in guitarland
Thanx for this cut; we can never hear it too often. Also, your comments about the midwest were right on: living in Flint, my father told every person who arrived that there were side roads much better than their route. He continued that mindset when he retired to Florida ... SO many different roads that no one but him knew.
This is the original and best version 🎼🌳🐞🎵🌲🍁🎶
