1/2 cup of salt per gallon is usually what I go with and then fine tune after it's all mixed

New here. First year in. I had wildly different numbers for salinity. Check recheck then again next day. All different. Later found out The ATC refractometer does not seem to be able to adjust for temp if it’s in a room or pocket or near an AC. Any more than a 5 degrees from the temp when the calibration was completed causes skewed readings. This caused many headaches. Imagine holding the device rechecking a half dozen rimes. Now the salinity keeps dropping as it gets warmed up in my hands. Then go to bed baffled and next day a cold unit gives a high reading. Almost threw it out.
Advice let unit sit on table for a few min. Drop calibration solution. Wait a min. Calibrate. Note room temp. Test the same way. If room is not within 5 deg. Then recalibrate. Now things are rock solid consistent.

I'll have to keep that in mind for future videos!

Sometimes I mix my water higher than 35ppt to get the parameters (ca, mg, dkH) I want then lower the salinity with freshwater.

from time to time I calibrate my devices according to the result that the "Tropic Marin Hydrometer" gives me in a 5gallons bucket (wc)
even the calibration solutions are often wrong. Enough guessing for me :)

If we're using a control that measures salinity and we see it change based on temperature. If someone keeps the temperature between 77-78 degrees, should we have 35 ppt at the top, middle, or bottom of the temp range?
