I'm so excited for Saturday, because...while I'm in the "really don't like"-camp with the Mayuri, the fight is so, unorthodox? Weird? Non-traditional? Whatever is the most fitting description, but the point is that it's so out there and it has sternritters and Dripsugaya too so the battle is really fun to me (so I'm biased too because of those ngl), even though I hate how easily Mayuri gets out of this one. Solid 8/10. If there was some stakes on Mayuri's side and the battle itself will have interesting cuts or additions in anime on top of that, this would easily even be 10 for me.
I think Mayuri vs Giselle is underrated and under appreciated in my book. During my first run of the TYBW manga, I didn’t really think much of Giselle’s character, but now looking back and then seeing her in the anime portion of the events, I’ve come to appreciate her more even though what she did to Bambietta was wrong.

I dont think Mayuris counters are absurd. He has been watching the fights through the screens in his lab for the entire 2nd core. The moment Yahaw left for the Palace (which was the unknown data), Mayuri probably had already devised every single counter for the Quincys and said: Screw it, ima go out and flex on these Quincys for a minute.
In that vein, I think he also is just doing clean up of his allies since he's not a traditional fighter. Quite a few of them are defeated by this point and need saving. So mayuri reprises his role from hueco mundo as a backup deployment.
Plus he's likely prioritizing the biggest threat that he could come up with counters for. He wouldn't have data for Yhwach's inner circle, and the danger of a zombie plague is that it spreads, so figuring out how to stop that ASAP makes sense. Plus, knowing Mayuri, he probably wanted a few samples of GIselle's blood hidden away to see if he could synthesize it...
I still think that´s so funny. like, where did that uniform come from? does giselle just carry around quincy uniforms of various sizes to drip ot her zombies? did there just so happen to be a dead quincy soldier who was really short? why was it only and specifically hitsugaya that got one? did they spend several minutes during an active battle changing his outfit? like, y´know?
I think the reason the Arrancar (specifically Luppi) were put back together in a better sense than Kira was is because Mayuri had over 2 years of spare time to work on them while with Kira it was like a single day
Mayuri is one of those characters that I love to hate. He’s insane, sadistic, underhanded, and gets to carry out all his sick, cruel experiments without any real punishment. Mayuri is the ultimate proof that there are no good or bad sides in Bleach; Only group A and Group B.
Well soul society is a similar example to modern society we live in. People have both good and bad according ones agenda in that moment. Mayuri used his way of helping shinigami. He was never seen as the hero. As most of the people in soul society. Shinigami are called balancers for a reason.
Indeed. If anything shows what the Gotei 13 is really about, it's their continued protection of this guy. Honestly, fun as he is, I still want him to die for what he's done, hopefully in spectacular fashion, and hopefully by Uryuu, Hachigo, or both. Nanago should never have died for him.
And he's the only Shinigami (maybe except the Squad 4 being all about healing) to not use any sort of physical combat in any way in the series. He's a scientist through and through so his approach to combat is all about knowledge and technology to get him through fights. It's just so nuts to say that about Mayuri's "fights" because he doesn't necessary fight with sword, hand-to-hand, or even kido. Gotta give it to Kubo for making his quarrels work untraditionally.
The sun and his zombies battling Giselle's zombies will be entertaining especially given what Mayuri is willing to do to in his fights. The anime version will be wild for sure.
I feel like one of the reason why Mayuri didn't use stronger Arrancar is because it would be harder to control them since it seems like they keep their personality. Barragan definitely would try to kill Mayuri.

I always assumed that Bambi's power was dropping as she "used up" the blood that Giselle gave her. Like a damaged engine that burns oil, expending lots of power burns blood for G's Zombies. By the time that Bambi was begging for more blood, her intelligence and strength were dropping as her more primal instincts were all that she had enough energy to use by the time she was thrown into the building.
You know what would be funny? If, instead of the Auswahlen, Haschwalth sends Uryu to retrieve all the remaining Sternritter who lost a fight (which… I guess would be all of them but Bazz B and Liltotto) and he makes the Shutzstaffel stop in the middle of the palace invasion to hold an execution ceremony for Candice, Meninas, Giselle, Robert, Pepe, and Nanana, just to be a dick. And then he lists all of their schrifts as he kills them except for Robert’s. Just to give us, the audience, the middle finger.
If Mayuri has had a chance to analyze a fight, then he’s come up with a counter for it. I’m not surprised that he had something already for Bambietta’s bombs. He’s the “Batman with prep time” of the Bleach universe. 😂
The 4 arrancar zombies make due to how they died. Luppi, Dordoni, and Cirucci were all killed by non shinigami (Grimmjow and Rudbornn). Charlotte is one of 2 arrancar among Barragan's fraccion that didn't die from their shinigami zanpakuto. Poww was killed by Komamura, Hawk guy by Kira, Findor by Shuhei and Ggio by Soi Fon. The elephant guy Omaeda fought got knocked out when Soi Fon got blasted into him but I assume he became collateral when Barragan started using his respira in the area. Charlotte only had his reiatsu absorbed by Yumichika and was left for dead at the edge of town so he's not directly killed by a zanpakuto and his body was away from the other action. Any other arrancar killed by a shinigami would not have a body to recover as they would have been purified. This includes most of the Hueco Mundo espada, all of Grimmjow's Fraccion and Tesla. Barragan and Wonderweiss got dusted in their respective fights with no body to collect.
I was going to say something similar. Nearly all the arrancars besides these four (again the elephant guy is unknown, Barragan was destroyed by his own respira, and there was the boxer Chad fought) were killed by zanpakuto releases. Charlotte was drained dry and left for dead, although it is not known whether he actually died in the fight. As such, they didn't dissolve like the other arrancars when they were sliced down. The only other exceptions are the living Espada in Harribel, Grimmjow, and the former Espada in Nelliel. In short, these were the only four dead arrancar that weren't beaten by a Zanpakuto and would have a body remaining.

Plus Espada would have a lot more reishi and that's basically like poison to Quincy so I'd imagine if there were Espada zombies the fight would be way to quick
Mayuri was really the unsung hero of this arc if we are going to be honest. I know that Bleach is Ichigo's story, but this arc had a lot of the heavy lifting done by Mayuri as opposed to Ichigo. Mayuri must be tired from carry much of this arc's weight on his shoulders lol.
@@kenzotenma5226 Not only that, but he went behind Yamamoto's back and acted on his own accord in the beginning of the series to stabilize the balance of the worlds as so many hollows were being erased because of the Quincies(which he figured out they were behind it). then he threw it all in Yamamoto's face and lectured him on how all of this was his fault for not finishing Yhwach off properly the first time. He also was figuring out how all of the Quincy operate, Figured out that the Quincy were going to steal Bankia( sadly too late). The dude is the real MVP and champ of this entire arc when you factor in all that he really did for everyone. Bro busted his fucking ass and really saved everyones ass without them knowing it.
Kubo loves Mayuri. He's in the perfect position of being smart enough to talk about anything Kubo wants to express, he's constantly changing his design and giving himself new powers for Kubo to invent and depict, he's willing to do basically anything no matter how questionable, and he's not an official main character so if Kubo doesn't have any ideas for him, he isn't an obligatory inclusion. He's a creator's perfect character, in a sense.
I'm actually glad Mayuri revived those characters instead of characters. Like the scene in which they get shocked it would seem so out of place to have someone like Nnoitra or Barragan be used for comedy relief. Starrk is the only one I saw as realistic because he did have some comedic scenes before, but it's that the nature of his character that would make him a fit from my perspective.
Also I think it makes it easier to streamline the plot. Resurrecting pretty much all major antagonists makes for way too many narrative threads that would eventually need to be closed or simply left open. Reanimating throwaway characters makes it easier to… throw them away again.
Considering the hell chapter the implication of powerful enough souls, instead of going to Purgatory, or reincarnation are instead sent to hell to Contain their otherwise to dense destructive energy. You can only assume Yamamoto did not allow Maiyuri to resurrect beings that were strong enough to qualify for that or their presence in hell disallowed revival.
The ball items Mayuri used seems pretty easy to explain why Mayuri brought them. The Quincy are fundamentally known to shape and fire reishi so stuff to capture and redirect the attacks seem like a simple answer
I always figured Charlotte overwhelming Bambietta so much was due to a variety of factors, including the poisonous nature of hollows to quincies, Bambietta's nerfed state, potential upgrades Mayuri would've likely given them, and the fact that Yumichika only *won* because all of Charlotte's spiritual pressure was absorbed by his zanpakuto, so we don't really know how strong he was in the first place.
Considering he went straight for what would otherwise be a killing blow if it were not for zombie healing, he clearly didn't need to go for bankai (if anything, its size would make dodging harder.)
What I love about this chapter is how good Mayuri is. Mayuri is the type of captain who doesn't fight hand to hand but the technicality on how he approach it. Which makes him dangerous. Can't wait for the next episode in Anime
Considering the anime showed that Mayuri isnt that impressed by Shunsui, its really cool how from the moment Ywach headed to the soul palace, Mayuri took matters into his own hands and really did a lot during the war. One of the best moment's was actually when byakuya questioned mayuri and mayuri said something that actually showed he is willing to do anything and go to any measures all for the sake of soul society. A death during combat and more so while protecting soul society is the death every shinigami yearns for.
Mayuri carry's the majority of the heavy lifting in this arc when you factor in all that he's done either on screen or off since the beginning for nearly everyone in the SS . I'd say this arc is mostly Mayuri's story than Ichigo's lol.
A few things that could explain the "plot holes": Luppi's torso was blown up, but let's remember that the bodies of the arrancar were in Sayel Apollo's lab. Which means that it wasn't Mayuri, but may be the Espada's technology that was able to regenerate his torso. Also, Orihime was in Hueco Mundo when this took place. A little far fetched, but she could've been the one to regenrate Luppi. Second thing, Charlotte shouldn't be even close to Bambi's power. That being said, remember that her zombie form is already nerfed, and she was already reduced to a crisp when she fought the arrancar. She had taken considerable damage from her own bombs. Charlotte's reiatsu can also be a factor. Last thing, about Mayuri being a bit hypocritical. Well, yes, he's being hypocritical. But it's not worth going through all the trouble saving lowly ranked soldiers, I think that's why he didn't think twice about saving them
The way I've always kinda viewed her deviance was due to her letter. Where A was a devoted and holy being, Z was an unhinged deviant, the furthest thing from God. To put it another way, she was the Omega to Yhwach's Alpha.
First arrancars Are super effective against quincies, Secondly the revived Arrancars have clearly been modified and strengthened by Mayuri and finally the nerf from the zombies being zombies and not their original state is also pretty massive. Mayuri has been watching the fights play out on screens and been monitoring them, it's completely logical for him to have prepped already and also to modify the revived Arrancars to be stronger. He really went out there and just flexed on Giselle and completely clean up her zombie mess
I think the first drug Mayuri gave Hitsugaya functions like Izanami from Naruto, which was used for a similar purpose at close to the same time IRL. I doubt Hitsugaya was moving after the first loop, and Mayuri could then activate the second drug at his leisure.
You have to remember that Mayuri has cameras or their equivalent in all of the soul society, and he religiously watches the goings-on. I assume he specifically came out of his laboratory because of this Quincy. And he probably wanted to test out some new invention he had or something like that. And that's why he just happened to have some counters. He is a scientist first. The data collection portion of his job was over. And the testing phase began. Lol
It might be a huge stretch, but given how Mayuri always seems to arrive a bit late to the fight I would assume or dare a guess that he did the same thing as during the Hueco Mundo arc, having bacteria or some other sort of monitoring device on each shinigami from the start so he could prepare his Deus Ex Machina levels of counters when actually going into battle. He just picked wherever he was most needed I guess (or wherever it would be more entertaining and scientifically fruitful given his nature).
I think that these arrancar were selected because they were the only ones not killed directly by zanpakuto blade. It is initially an inconsistency, since arrancars either dissipate into thin air or are not seen again. So it would make sense that these four where the ones "gatharable", instead of any other arrancar, who would have dissipated off screen.
They brought back arrancars that we remember but not a lot of people really cared for which was a smart move in my opinion. Imagine the fan outrage if they brought back fan favorite characters like Stark and Ulquiorra to be used as Mayuri’s puppets.
I think this fight sets the stakes for the pernida fight. Seeing him cake walk Giselle makes it hit harder when he almost gets cake walked by ZA HANDO. power wise maiyuri couldn't bring back to much power. Any true high rank espada would be a bit to much help and take away stakes. Who knows what it took to get the zombies working on his part. Some others might not have been as lucky with the resurrection.
Well, to put good on his name, he likely didn't have any failure in his own zombies (that resulted in death). As the only recoverable Espada were the ones he had living. He's a lot smarter and lot less mistake prone than you give him credit for.
I wonder how faithful they’ll be with Giselle’s scenes in the anime version. That one conversation regarding what she reeks of is gonna catch a lot anime-onlys off guard if they leave it in.

Mayuri was overlooked by yhwach when it comes to the 5 war powers. Or maybe, yhwach just didnt know of his potential. Out of everyone, mayuri is possibly at the top of who did the most for not just the entirety of seireitei, but also for his fellow captains and allies during the war. Even if its hard to tell at face value, nearly all (if not all) of his actions were selfless during this arc. Everything he did was very meticulous and purposeful, saving many other soul reapers from certain doom. Ofcourse, its always been his character to do "good" in a seemingly "evil" way. But he shined (pun intended) heavily in this arc, and we really get to see more of his well-meaned intentions, over his trope of being a psycho scientist.
@kenzotenma5226 I would argue, not a wild card, but THE card. Everyone underestimated him during the war. And you really notice it whenever he's a part of a conversation or when he's not relied on for a plan before everyone else makes mistakes. And yet he still fixes them. Without him, even if they still won the war, nearly every other captain and lutenient would be dead. Urahara took the attention away due to ego and repertoire. But on that same note, repertoire is the only thing that made everyone else overlook mayuri, including yhwach.
Mayuri was pragmatically selfish, let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Besides, I think it was a wasted opportunity for Uryuu to not ask Ywach to either attack R&D in place of Askin or to join Askin as an easy way to "prove" his loyalty to the Wandenreich and avenge Souken in one shot. Heck, he and Nemu could have had one final exchange before the latter's death, and as an Uryuu x Nemu shipper, I really wanted that...
I have so many arguments for every piece of criticism you have for what mayuri does, how he does it, and the things you dont like that he does but ngl too lazy to state it all in a comment. Ill just say that imo its very consistent to Mayuris character, makes a lot of sense and emphasizes his Mad Scientist image even further. His fights are meant to be ridiculous and unbelievable which makes the Pernida fight all that more interesting and entertaining

Mayuri is the Quincy master Knowing his enemies are such, having items that can capture Reshi is no stretch at all. Thier main weapon is bows and arrows afterall. Kisuke and Mayuri are the type of guys who never stop making new toys, which is expanded by their Bankais

The Reishi absorbing devices never felt too out of left field, to me it made sense that he would come up with something like that given how much he experiments on Quincy, to me stuff like the replaced organs against Szayelapporo felt like way more of a stretch The spread with zombie arrancar being revealed is great , mostly because of Mayuri's face covering the bottom of the frame like a rising sun but yeah as you said it would've been better if it was more popular Arrancar Charlotte vs Bambietta isn't too much of a stretch for me but I understand where you're coming from, to me Zombietta is mere shell of the original Bambietta and Charlotte got a buff from Mayuri, also that Hollow power seems to hard counter quincy power. This fight was pretty cool, it reminded me a bit of that puppet fight in early Naruto Shippuden and of Itachi vs Kabuto with Izanami with that drug that Mayuri uses on Hitsugaya.
It reminds me of yu yu hakusho and Kurama with his sinning tree. Izanami can be broken out of when one understands what's going on and accepts their fate. The sinning tree can't be broken out of, but the sinning tree kills the person.
My theory is that Giselle's zombies are not as strong as when they were not zombies. I'm also thinking that the reishi from the zombies is more Giselle's reishi since they are under her control. Not to mention if given a chance, ordinary folks can deal considerable damage to even the most talented, beautiful and fierce opponents.
So when Yammi got killed by Byakuya and Kenpachi, at the end scenes, didn't Mayuri want the body? So theoretically, couldn't he have Yammi sitting on the sidelines? I feel like that would've been a better choice than Lupi.
Combining the prospect of new scenes being added, our want for stronger Espada zombies to fight alongside Mayuri , and hopefully some additions to zombie Hitsugaya. I think a small skirmish between Stark or the 5th Espada vs Hitsugaya would be an incredible showcase. I believe that would help incorporate more scenes of the ice captains potential and save Mayuri for Giselle. Or he can potentially kill stark and allow the rest of the scene to play out.
Let's be real, Yumichika and Ikkaku both know about each other's abilities/zanpaktou. There's no way they don't and essentially act as if they do. Neither of them really have any need to rat out the other, and they are seemingly close friends after all.
One thing I really like about the TYBW, is that it highlights the paralles between Mayuri and Kenpachi. Both are seen by most of their allies as a necessary evil, but both end being some of the most valuable assets for the Soul Reapers during the war. Both of them are mainly motivated by selfish reasons, yet they are very capable and reliable when push comes to shove. Both Mayuri and Kenny reach their highest points in this arc, but it comes at the cost of losing the one closest to them. Both of the Yachiru’s for Kenny and Nemu for Mayuri. Still, both of them are recognized as the heros of the war that they are, best shown by how Ikkaku and Yumi shown genuine gratitude and respect for Mayuri following his battle with Pernida. A battle that proved that, despite being the complete opposite of how Squad 11 views a fighter, Mayuri is a true warrior.
Mayuri is honestly my favorite character in the whole franchise, hands down. Total mad scientist. Just let him cook in his little lab and he’ll be fine in most situations, though it’s also fun to see him deal with unknown factors because you get to see how his mind works in how he just keeps random stuff prepared “just in case”.
I always saw that Yumichika moment as a small character point and nothing else. To me it was something clearly Giselle didn’t want said/known and it triggered her to react. When it’s referenced again she reacts once more.
I assume that he actually has the bodies of the Espada, but that this was a trial run and that he would not risk using the espada bodies without field testing some of the other vasto lorde. Or in this case the weaker fraccion.
Sorry if this is already answered somewhere, but I was always confused by how Bambi was able to use her schrift as a zombie. Surely when she died, her soul should have returned to Juha, along with her special powers? Or does the Zombie just override this somehow when it's activated before someone has fully died? Idk
I fucking love Mayuri and the fact that Tite Kubo likes him is also great. Btw I would love seeing Mayuri using the Espada at this battle It is also valid to remmember that Bambi seems weaker as a Zombie then when she was alive
I agree that maybe Myuri didn't need two fights. But I think the confrontation was necessary to bring back to life characters like the deseaced captains.
Szayel mentioned he could recreate his Fraccion, so it's possible he (and Aizen) were planning to do the same with the fallen Arrancar. Mayuri might've even examined Szayel after the war ended & used bits of him in his revival technique. His modified Bankai might even use bits of the 8th Espada too
You got that wrong, the comparison between Hitsugaya and Rukia. You said it yourself, it was all in Hitsugaya's mind. Reality is a, Hitsugaya is not capable of just 1 shot freezing Mayuri until his adult form. Rukia literally could freeze colder than Hitsugaya in her Shikai. Her bankai simply extends her range significantly and gives her armor.
Giselle's real power is her ability to keep that cap stationary on her head. It's frustrating that no one knocks it off. My headcanon is she wears a wig with a cap attached.

He also did an experiment on Izuru to power him up to a high tier captain level, so Izuru was a true patch job plus a twisted power experiment.

He's a scientist through and through so his approach to combat is all about knowledge and technology to get him through fights. It's just so nuts to say that about Mayuri's "fights" because he doesn't necessary fight with sword, hand-to-hand, or even kido. Gotta give it to Kubo for making his quarrels work untraditionally.

I always assumed that Bambi's power was dropping as she "used up" the blood that Giselle gave her. Like a damaged engine that burns oil, expending lots of power burns blood for G's Zombies. By the time that Bambi was begging for more blood, her intelligence and strength were dropping as her more primal instincts were all that she had enough energy to use by the time she was thrown into the building.
That’s a good explanation and makes the most sense. I also personally wanted Bambi to get revenge and kill Giselle.
You know what would be funny? If, instead of the Auswahlen, Haschwalth sends Uryu to retrieve all the remaining Sternritter who lost a fight (which… I guess would be all of them but Bazz B and Liltotto) and he makes the Shutzstaffel stop in the middle of the palace invasion to hold an execution ceremony for Candice, Meninas, Giselle, Robert, Pepe, and Nanana, just to be a dick. And then he lists all of their schrifts as he kills them except for Robert’s. Just to give us, the audience, the middle finger.
If Mayuri has had a chance to analyze a fight, then he’s come up with a counter for it. I’m not surprised that he had something already for Bambietta’s bombs. He’s the “Batman with prep time” of the Bleach universe. 😂
The fact that Mayuri vs Toshiro was just one big flex from Mayuri showed us just how prepared Mayuri is for every situation. And it was awesome.

The 4 arrancar zombies make due to how they died. Luppi, Dordoni, and Cirucci were all killed by non shinigami (Grimmjow and Rudbornn). Charlotte is one of 2 arrancar among Barragan's fraccion that didn't die from their shinigami zanpakuto. Poww was killed by Komamura, Hawk guy by Kira, Findor by Shuhei and Ggio by Soi Fon. The elephant guy Omaeda fought got knocked out when Soi Fon got blasted into him but I assume he became collateral when Barragan started using his respira in the area. Charlotte only had his reiatsu absorbed by Yumichika and was left for dead at the edge of town so he's not directly killed by a zanpakuto and his body was away from the other action. Any other arrancar killed by a shinigami would not have a body to recover as they would have been purified. This includes most of the Hueco Mundo espada, all of Grimmjow's Fraccion and Tesla. Barragan and Wonderweiss got dusted in their respective fights with no body to collect.
I was going to say something similar. Nearly all the arrancars besides these four (again the elephant guy is unknown, Barragan was destroyed by his own respira, and there was the boxer Chad fought) were killed by zanpakuto releases. Charlotte was drained dry and left for dead, although it is not known whether he actually died in the fight. As such, they didn't dissolve like the other arrancars when they were sliced down. The only other exceptions are the living Espada in Harribel, Grimmjow, and the former Espada in Nelliel. In short, these were the only four dead arrancar that weren't beaten by a Zanpakuto and would have a body remaining.

Plus Espada would have a lot more reishi and that's basically like poison to Quincy so I'd imagine if there were Espada zombies the fight would be way to quick
Mayuri was really the unsung hero of this arc if we are going to be honest. I know that Bleach is Ichigo's story, but this arc had a lot of the heavy lifting done by Mayuri as opposed to Ichigo. Mayuri must be tired from carry much of this arc's weight on his shoulders lol.

@@kenzotenma5226 Not only that, but he went behind Yamamoto's back and acted on his own accord in the beginning of the series to stabilize the balance of the worlds as so many hollows were being erased because of the Quincies(which he figured out they were behind it). then he threw it all in Yamamoto's face and lectured him on how all of this was his fault for not finishing Yhwach off properly the first time.
He also was figuring out how all of the Quincy operate, Figured out that the Quincy were going to steal Bankia( sadly too late). The dude is the real MVP and champ of this entire arc when you factor in all that he really did for everyone. Bro busted his fucking ass and really saved everyones ass without them knowing it.
Kubo loves Mayuri. He's in the perfect position of being smart enough to talk about anything Kubo wants to express, he's constantly changing his design and giving himself new powers for Kubo to invent and depict, he's willing to do basically anything no matter how questionable, and he's not an official main character so if Kubo doesn't have any ideas for him, he isn't an obligatory inclusion. He's a creator's perfect character, in a sense.
Mayuri is one of the characters you ask yourself "He is one of the good guys, right?".
I'm actually glad Mayuri revived those characters instead of characters. Like the scene in which they get shocked it would seem so out of place to have someone like Nnoitra or Barragan be used for comedy relief. Starrk is the only one I saw as realistic because he did have some comedic scenes before, but it's that the nature of his character that would make him a fit from my perspective.
Also I think it makes it easier to streamline the plot. Resurrecting pretty much all major antagonists makes for way too many narrative threads that would eventually need to be closed or simply left open. Reanimating throwaway characters makes it easier to… throw them away again.
Giselle is an… interesting, disturbing character for sure, but you just know there were a LOT of people who were happy she lost

Considering the hell chapter the implication of powerful enough souls, instead of going to Purgatory, or reincarnation are instead sent to hell to Contain their otherwise to dense destructive energy. You can only assume Yamamoto did not allow Maiyuri to resurrect beings that were strong enough to qualify for that or their presence in hell disallowed revival.
I think Yumichika's Kido made an odd amount of sense. What's more 11th division than using kido to throw boulders 💪
The ball items Mayuri used seems pretty easy to explain why Mayuri brought them. The Quincy are fundamentally known to shape and fire reishi so stuff to capture and redirect the attacks seem like a simple answer

I always figured Charlotte overwhelming Bambietta so much was due to a variety of factors, including the poisonous nature of hollows to quincies, Bambietta's nerfed state, potential upgrades Mayuri would've likely given them, and the fact that Yumichika only *won* because all of Charlotte's spiritual pressure was absorbed by his zanpakuto, so we don't really know how strong he was in the first place.
Charlotte was completely crushing Yumichika in their fight even before releasing his sword, so he's easily one of the strongest non-espada arrancar.
Mayuri being prepared for every fight is foreshadowed all the way back when he pulled out that pic of ishidas gramps.
Ikkaku doesn't use his Bankai because it is broken, this was explained during the recrafting of Ichigo's Zanpakuto
But Akon was able to put it back together, just extremely weakened, that was also explained in the same chapter
Considering he went straight for what would otherwise be a killing blow if it were not for zombie healing, he clearly didn't need to go for bankai (if anything, its size would make dodging harder.)

What I love about this chapter is how good Mayuri is. Mayuri is the type of captain who doesn't fight hand to hand but the technicality on how he approach it. Which makes him dangerous. Can't wait for the next episode in Anime
Aside from royal guard, this fight is the one I expect to see the most in this cour. It's not the best, but the most fun IMO and that's enough for me
Considering the anime showed that Mayuri isnt that impressed by Shunsui, its really cool how from the moment Ywach headed to the soul palace, Mayuri took matters into his own hands and really did a lot during the war.
One of the best moment's was actually when byakuya questioned mayuri and mayuri said something that actually showed he is willing to do anything and go to any measures all for the sake of soul society.
A death during combat and more so while protecting soul society is the death every shinigami yearns for.
Mayuri carry's the majority of the heavy lifting in this arc when you factor in all that he's done either on screen or off since the beginning for nearly everyone in the SS . I'd say this arc is mostly Mayuri's story than Ichigo's lol.

A few things that could explain the "plot holes":
Luppi's torso was blown up, but let's remember that the bodies of the arrancar were in Sayel Apollo's lab. Which means that it wasn't Mayuri, but may be the Espada's technology that was able to regenerate his torso. Also, Orihime was in Hueco Mundo when this took place. A little far fetched, but she could've been the one to regenrate Luppi.
Second thing, Charlotte shouldn't be even close to Bambi's power. That being said, remember that her zombie form is already nerfed, and she was already reduced to a crisp when she fought the arrancar. She had taken considerable damage from her own bombs. Charlotte's reiatsu can also be a factor.
Last thing, about Mayuri being a bit hypocritical. Well, yes, he's being hypocritical. But it's not worth going through all the trouble saving lowly ranked soldiers, I think that's why he didn't think twice about saving them

The way I've always kinda viewed her deviance was due to her letter. Where A was a devoted and holy being, Z was an unhinged deviant, the furthest thing from God. To put it another way, she was the Omega to Yhwach's Alpha.
First arrancars Are super effective against quincies, Secondly the revived Arrancars have clearly been modified and strengthened by Mayuri and finally the nerf from the zombies being zombies and not their original state is also pretty massive.
Mayuri has been watching the fights play out on screens and been monitoring them, it's completely logical for him to have prepped already and also to modify the revived Arrancars to be stronger. He really went out there and just flexed on Giselle and completely clean up her zombie mess

I think the first drug Mayuri gave Hitsugaya functions like Izanami from Naruto, which was used for a similar purpose at close to the same time IRL. I doubt Hitsugaya was moving after the first loop, and Mayuri could then activate the second drug at his leisure.
You have to remember that Mayuri has cameras or their equivalent in all of the soul society, and he religiously watches the goings-on. I assume he specifically came out of his laboratory because of this Quincy. And he probably wanted to test out some new invention he had or something like that. And that's why he just happened to have some counters. He is a scientist first. The data collection portion of his job was over. And the testing phase began. Lol

It might be a huge stretch, but given how Mayuri always seems to arrive a bit late to the fight I would assume or dare a guess that he did the same thing as during the Hueco Mundo arc, having bacteria or some other sort of monitoring device on each shinigami from the start so he could prepare his Deus Ex Machina levels of counters when actually going into battle. He just picked wherever he was most needed I guess (or wherever it would be more entertaining and scientifically fruitful given his nature).
I think that these arrancar were selected because they were the only ones not killed directly by zanpakuto blade. It is initially an inconsistency, since arrancars either dissipate into thin air or are not seen again. So it would make sense that these four where the ones "gatharable", instead of any other arrancar, who would have dissipated off screen.
They brought back arrancars that we remember but not a lot of people really cared for which was a smart move in my opinion. Imagine the fan outrage if they brought back fan favorite characters like Stark and Ulquiorra to be used as Mayuri’s puppets.

I think this fight sets the stakes for the pernida fight. Seeing him cake walk Giselle makes it hit harder when he almost gets cake walked by ZA HANDO.
power wise maiyuri couldn't bring back to much power. Any true high rank espada would be a bit to much help and take away stakes. Who knows what it took to get the zombies working on his part. Some others might not have been as lucky with the resurrection.
Well, to put good on his name, he likely didn't have any failure in his own zombies (that resulted in death). As the only recoverable Espada were the ones he had living.
He's a lot smarter and lot less mistake prone than you give him credit for.

Mayuri was overlooked by yhwach when it comes to the 5 war powers.
Or maybe, yhwach just didnt know of his potential.
Out of everyone, mayuri is possibly at the top of who did the most for not just the entirety of seireitei, but also for his fellow captains and allies during the war.
Even if its hard to tell at face value, nearly all (if not all) of his actions were selfless during this arc. Everything he did was very meticulous and purposeful, saving many other soul reapers from certain doom.
Ofcourse, its always been his character to do "good" in a seemingly "evil" way. But he shined (pun intended) heavily in this arc, and we really get to see more of his well-meaned intentions, over his trope of being a psycho scientist.
Wild card is the answer for Mayuri. Urahara took the attention while Mayuri worked under and took action in TYBW

Everyone underestimated him during the war. And you really notice it whenever he's a part of a conversation or when he's not relied on for a plan before everyone else makes mistakes. And yet he still fixes them.
Without him, even if they still won the war, nearly every other captain and lutenient would be dead.
Urahara took the attention away due to ego and repertoire. But on that same note, repertoire is the only thing that made everyone else overlook mayuri, including yhwach.
Mayuri was pragmatically selfish, let's not get ahead of ourselves here.
Besides, I think it was a wasted opportunity for Uryuu to not ask Ywach to either attack R&D in place of Askin or to join Askin as an easy way to "prove" his loyalty to the Wandenreich and avenge Souken in one shot. Heck, he and Nemu could have had one final exchange before the latter's death, and as an Uryuu x Nemu shipper, I really wanted that...
His knowledge about quincies was well foreshadowed in soul society arc. Kubo developed Mayuri really well in TYBW arc

The Reishi absorbing devices never felt too out of left field, to me it made sense that he would come up with something like that given how much he experiments on Quincy, to me stuff like the replaced organs against Szayelapporo felt like way more of a stretch
The spread with zombie arrancar being revealed is great , mostly because of Mayuri's face covering the bottom of the frame like a rising sun but yeah as you said it would've been better if it was more popular Arrancar
Charlotte vs Bambietta isn't too much of a stretch for me but I understand where you're coming from, to me Zombietta is mere shell of the original Bambietta and Charlotte got a buff from Mayuri, also that Hollow power seems to hard counter quincy power.
This fight was pretty cool, it reminded me a bit of that puppet fight in early Naruto Shippuden and of Itachi vs Kabuto with Izanami with that drug that Mayuri uses on Hitsugaya.
It reminds me of yu yu hakusho and Kurama with his sinning tree. Izanami can be broken out of when one understands what's going on and accepts their fate. The sinning tree can't be broken out of, but the sinning tree kills the person.
This fight transformed Giselle from cute side villain to one of my favorite characters in the series 🔥🔥

These arancar were found in the laboratory. The major dead arancar died after Szayelaporro died, so they were not in the lab.
byakuya, hitsugaya, zarakai versus gerard was obviously fan service. that is why hitsugaya was included in the royal palace.

My theory is that Giselle's zombies are not as strong as when they were not zombies. I'm also thinking that the reishi from the zombies is more Giselle's reishi since they are under her control. Not to mention if given a chance, ordinary folks can deal considerable damage to even the most talented, beautiful and fierce opponents.

So when Yammi got killed by Byakuya and Kenpachi, at the end scenes, didn't Mayuri want the body? So theoretically, couldn't he have Yammi sitting on the sidelines? I feel like that would've been a better choice than Lupi.
It's just weird this fight just brings out the dark humor I can't help but kind of smile
Combining the prospect of new scenes being added, our want for stronger Espada zombies to fight alongside Mayuri , and hopefully some additions to zombie Hitsugaya. I think a small skirmish between Stark or the 5th Espada vs Hitsugaya would be an incredible showcase. I believe that would help incorporate more scenes of the ice captains potential and save Mayuri for Giselle. Or he can potentially kill stark and allow the rest of the scene to play out.
Let's be real, Yumichika and Ikkaku both know about each other's abilities/zanpaktou. There's no way they don't and essentially act as if they do. Neither of them really have any need to rat out the other, and they are seemingly close friends after all.
One thing I really like about the TYBW, is that it highlights the paralles between Mayuri and Kenpachi. Both are seen by most of their allies as a necessary evil, but both end being some of the most valuable assets for the Soul Reapers during the war. Both of them are mainly motivated by selfish reasons, yet they are very capable and reliable when push comes to shove. Both Mayuri and Kenny reach their highest points in this arc, but it comes at the cost of losing the one closest to them. Both of the Yachiru’s for Kenny and Nemu for Mayuri. Still, both of them are recognized as the heros of the war that they are, best shown by how Ikkaku and Yumi shown genuine gratitude and respect for Mayuri following his battle with Pernida. A battle that proved that, despite being the complete opposite of how Squad 11 views a fighter, Mayuri is a true warrior.

Mayuri is honestly my favorite character in the whole franchise, hands down. Total mad scientist. Just let him cook in his little lab and he’ll be fine in most situations, though it’s also fun to see him deal with unknown factors because you get to see how his mind works in how he just keeps random stuff prepared “just in case”.
I always saw that Yumichika moment as a small character point and nothing else. To me it was something clearly Giselle didn’t want said/known and it triggered her to react. When it’s referenced again she reacts once more.

Szayel mentioned he could recreate his Fraccion, so it's possible he (and Aizen) were planning to do the same with the fallen Arrancar. Mayuri might've even examined Szayel after the war ended & used bits of him in his revival technique. His modified Bankai might even use bits of the 8th Espada too

You got that wrong, the comparison between Hitsugaya and Rukia. You said it yourself, it was all in Hitsugaya's mind. Reality is a, Hitsugaya is not capable of just 1 shot freezing Mayuri until his adult form. Rukia literally could freeze colder than Hitsugaya in her Shikai. Her bankai simply extends her range significantly and gives her armor.

Mayuri vs. Hitsugaya is a fantastic fight. It's incredible actually getting to see Mayuri having a regular sword fight, albeit with a ridiculous hack.
