Sorry... disregard my previous comment as I jumped the gun, and found that you posted it 3 years ago.... THANK YOU DANTÉ!! Man, you are QUICK in your replies 😁
red iron oxide and the gerstly borate are making that speck that your wondering about... i think... i use a 20 x 5 recipe and also try one recipe at a time of different family. the 20 x 5 recipe shows you what each part of the recipe do when you compare to different families, ex i am messing around with the 20 x5 and a clay and gerstly recipe... i play with the same amount of colorant in each and it turns out that you can start to pick out which things are doing what effects.
Oh the podcast awesome! I've been following you for a number of years now I. YT and I'm happy that you're on podbean so I can listen to you while I work!
Hello Dante - been watching your videos and have to send a big thanks and also had a quick question. You've been really helpful and I'm glad you are willing to share your knowledge. Thank you. After watching your video on making glazes - I decided to give it a try. While my first attempt wasn't a success, I feel I've caught the bug and really want my next recipe to turn out. I posted a question on Glazy but maybe that's not the best place for beginner questions?? Anywho - where's the best place to get answers to obvious (but not to me) questions regarding glaze recipes? I'm happy to support, via Patreon or other, any responsive resource. Thanks again. J
O MY GOD! I LOVED THIS ENAMEL, I WOULD LIKE TO DO IT HERE AT THE ATELIER, I AM BRAZILIAN, I AM USING GOOGLE TRANSLATOR TO WRITE. COULD YOU PUT UA-cam SUBTITLES ON THE VIDEO? ALL YOUR VIDEOS HAS UA-cam SUBTITLES, BUT THIS ONE. THANK YOU FOR SHARING SO MANY WONDERS
You should be able to calculate a percentage by weight of water to add to get your desired specific gravity. Remember that specific gravity is essentially the same thing as density. So for water alone, 1g = 1ml. Meaning you shouldn't need the graduated cylinder. It might vary slightly depending on how dry the chemicals are and the ambient humidity, but it should give a good approximation.
Great video (BBC, haha), anyway, I've been having some issues with pitting and/or running with glazes with SG of 1.48 - 1.57. Do you always keep your SG at 1.4 or just Randy's Red?
it's just Randy's red that I keep at 1.4. that's probably my highest gravity glaze. I find that 1.5 to 1.6 is a little too high for most places and the base for me is about 1.3 or 1.35 for the high majority of my stuff
Danté, first off, thank you for the top notch videos you share! In this video you speak of "LUMOS" glaze that you use on an over lap at the top section of a bowl (time stamp 17:47). May I inquire on the recipe for this glaze, or where I may obtain it?? Love that cascading effect it gives on your application!! Many mahalo's... Nick in Latrobe PA
My glaze turned out muddy brown. I had the recipe mixed at my local pottery store. Sieved twice, fired to cone 5 with a 10 minute hold. Do you have any ideas?
This has inspired me to question, what would happen if you had a white client that you added iron oxide to... Would potentially change the color or... Hmm, give me a couple weeks to try that out
I was trying to get the ingredients for your lumous glaze and I can't find the cornwollstone. Is there a replacement? I found a recommendation for China clay???
What firing schedule do you use for this? I just mixed selsor red from John britt & he talkels about doing a R1 firing but it confuses me so much!! Red are hard!
Red is hard. I've mixed that glaze up before and I will tell you you have to mix it up very well for at least 20 seconds every time you use it and it works better on the inside of vessels to get the silicone carbide to really work. That being said I don't have a special Kiln schedule I just go straight up and down from cone 6
I also did a bunch of test firings on this glaze with different ramps. My recipe is slightly different to yours. Here is the video ua-cam.com/video/6GNEiq9AXs4/v-deo.html Amazing differences. I tried cooling slow and fast but it seems to like fast cooling from a high Cone 6, almost 7 and then a soak at 1750F for an hour. What was your firing schedule. I will try it now on B-mix5 and a red clay body to see the difference. Stay safe in California and thanks for doing the videos
Don't get me wrong dude... but I think Randy's Red should really be called Randy's brownish red...unless the colors on my phone are AFU. Possible, but not likely. 🤯

Thanks for the Minspar to test as a sub for the cona F4 spar. I don't have any old bags around but do have all the old reciepes.
I just opened my gas kiln with some test tiles of randy's red, but my kiln wanted to surprise me with a beautiful randy's green 😃

Should mention that rio, is specifically "spanish red iron".... The yellow is the iron cristalizing with gertsley, (like teadust)
The radar outside I use in this video is just regular red iron oxide, not spanish. I have both versions.
@@EarthNationCeramics yes it is the yellow iron in the rio! this is what i thought immediately
Thanks for this video. I tried it out and it worked pretty much the same as in your video.
Hi there. I’m so excited for this Randy’s red video.

Try it out and let me know if it works and is less complicated
@@EarthNationCeramics I'd love to, but I am an enthusiast with no studio. But a BS in geochemistry tells me it should work.

Hi Dante, is specific gravity measured with a hydrometer?
Nice glaze! Thanks so much for sharing.

Hi Dante, I was wondering if this glaze is food safe? Thank you
So beautiful 🥰🥰 Thank you once again.

What firing schedule did you use for these tests?
What! How did I not know about this video for 6 months!!!! Ya done me wrong UA-cam!
What, you didn’t share the chicken with Lindsey M. Dillon?!
..... No
@@EarthNationCeramics poor Lindsey.
Thank you for sharing God Bless
Have you given the lumos glaze?
I have. I believe it's somewhere in the playlist. If you can't find it please come back and tell me.
Hey Donte, did you like the ending of the Avatar?
The last airbender, yes.
Because sometimes taken away the thing that a person values more than life itself is worse than death.
Thanks for the comment.
Excuse my ignorance, what does RIO 15% mean
Red Iron Oxide
Dont see the red, but is a nice caramel glaze ❤
wait... if you marbled a white and brown clay with thick banding of each...
Try it out 🙂
RR with lumos😋😍
Recipe I mean!
