Funny thing about learning guitar. First we learn to make every note to ring clear. Then we learn how to make them stay silent.. Sometimes silence can say so much.....great lesson
Yes, I thought about that too and it got me thinking... ultimately it's about control. We want to be able to manipulate the volume, texture, attack, tone, and timbre of our instrument, among other things. The ability to do all those things (with enough practice) is what makes the guitar so special.
@@swiftlessons wise words , from a great player, ill take it to heart bro
My favorite new teacher....
Thank you John, that means a lot. I'll keep them coming! -Rob
Great lesson! We love SRV. 🤘🎸🔥
As I’ve progressed as a player, I watch my idols play like this all the time. That was the next challenge for me in my playing. I think this is going to be a game changer for me.
Hello.
I'm Eduardo, I'm 65 years old, I live in Barcelona (Spain) and I'm learning to play the guitar.
I really like your videos, your guitar lessons.
I think you are a great guitarist and a wonderful teacher.
I have subscribed to your classes and I am learning a lot.
I wish you good health, much happiness and a long life with your family.
Thank you very much, you are a very valuable person.
Eduardo.
George Harrison guitar! Nice choice!!👏👏
Awesome great playing guitar. So sound great audio. 👍
Thanks Peter, believe it or not, that's just a simple (and affordable) rode camera mic, but it sounds great!
Rob, your lessons are so amazing! I always learn so much! This muting techniques lesson is excellent! Thanks!
Rob. You're a great teacher. I'm a big fan of Jeff McErlains lessons. You are right up there with him.
Thanks Rob, just watched it, interesting lesson😊Your Guitar sounds amazing!
Great lesson, I needed that! That’s what’s been holding me from playing more electric.
Excellent! Love it. The raking technique is really powerful. I recall a street busker in Florida basically playing only in that style, and it was memorable, but I didn't know why at the time.
Excellent lesson
Not easy...but so appreciated. I still have issues with bends. I just practice. No problem.
Great lesson as always. Thanks Rob 🎶🎶🎶
Thanks for this lesson. I would say that I'm an advanced beginner thanks to a lot of your videos but I struggle with this technique mainly on the up strum
Same here. I'm terrible at muting!
@@danieli.9252 both hands can mute , fingers on your fret hand can mute strings as well as your fretting thumb. The palm of your strumming hand should rest just above the bridge naturally and apply more when needed, your ear will tell you
Awesome content
Thanks for stopping in and sharing some positive feedback. Many more are on the way! -Rob
Extremely good your lessons Rob your the feller who is going to help me be a competent Guitar Player. Regards from Germany. Can‘t Place your accent do you come from a southern State? Regards Pete 😊
You can also find harmonics using a partial mute.
Touch the string with the palm of the hand at a harmonic location while picking that string.
Sounds like a great follow up lesson!
That gretch tho ❤️☮️
1965 Gretsch Country Gentleman, my prized possession!
This is an essential part of making your playing refined and a better player. The other day when I was at my local music store I heard so many guys playing some nice guitar but they had such sloppy technique due to the unwanted noise of them not muting/muting strings incorrectly.. yet they kept on playing and acting like they were the ultimate shit the way they strutted around playing. 🙈
I am glad I learnt on an acoustic first because I learnt quickly to mute properly
Waoooo
Thanks for the speedy comment Sarthak, so glad you're enthusiastic about this lesson! -Rob
Im very confused because I know many times the fingertip is supposed to touch the string above to mute but many times with players I see it not being done ! How do you know when and when not to do so ? Thanks
In this particular case, there’s really no rule to it. You simply find what works best for you, and so long as the technique doesn’t inhibit your playing, go with it. In the long run, this will become second nature, and you won’t even need to think about what you’re using to mute the strings.
I'm learning a lot from your videos thanks for sharing I Subscribe thank you hope you don't mind. Charlie Rogers.
Thanks so much for the sub and I’m so glad my videos are helping you to improve. Enjoy your progress!
Great lesson! How's the kid?
Thanks for the comment and for checking in on Adele. She's wonderful... this week she got her first two teeth, and is making tons of progress in terms of crawling and standing. Watching her grow and develop has been an awesome experience.
@@swiftlessons that's awesome! Quick question on string muting. Should it be a light touch to kill them like a harmonic touch or should more pressure be applied? Like halfway to the fretboard..
damn george harrison's country gentlemen
Love this lesson. But...not everyone can mute with the thumb.
I just subscribe to your channel. #NAME? P R O M O S M!!!
