Addison’s disease is often not diagnosed and is pretty uncommon. Using “like” and “um” is something natural to say when you’re trying to gather your thoughts. You can get better at it by practicing what you’re going to talk about. But then that makes it more scripted/not off the dome. It’s good too keep notes or key topics. In my opinion, rehearsing a whole podcast makes it less genuine. Keep doin y’all. Don’t become bots.
I agree. I understand what noel meant about hesitating during a standup set. but a podcast (or a live stream for that matter) isn't a standup set, and it shouldn't try to be. And I'm not sure why Noel and Cody agree that that even applies here. and I get where the dude Bevan is coming from, sometimes minute shit drives you crazy, happens to me all the time if I'm watching or listening to a thing. But I don't think my personal preferences should set a universal maxim for all online content. Sad to say Bevan, I think this is a you problem.
I think the ‘like’ criticism is diving too deep into a non-issue, people just speak that way in general. I’ve never felt its an issue and its just a pattern of natural conversation. Without general conversation fillers such as Like, Umm, and Ahh, it would feel like a script and not a genuine chat
There are some people that say it so often it's distracting. Noel and Cody aren't to that point, but I have met some people that say filler words so often it detracts from what they're saying.
Hazzard i feel like there are some people who *seem* to use it a lot more than I normally hear it, and it can be distracting. But it quickly passes. It’s kinda wild and interesting how we judge/value different dialects and speaking habits, “like” is a huge one
I think there's an unnecessary stigma around the word, and that some people assume you're less intelligent for using it but that's just not true at all.
I’ve honestly never even noticed the ‘like’ thing before, and I usually notice things like that especially in podcasts. Really the only thing that bothers me is when people say things like “ya know” every sentence but you guys shouldn’t overthink it, things are much better when you’re relaxed and in your element. Don’t worry about it, stop being so hard on yourselves
@@sem5996_ are you suggesting that this is often how you hear people use these words? if you would like to refute my point, please do so with something that is not an outlier. im willing to debate this point with you, but I cant if you fail to provide points that are worth spending my time on.

Yes 👏 i majored in linguistics and there’s tons of studies on how the way that saying “like” (a space taken by other words in the past) is a normal way of processing information, others studies show that (similarly to other patterns of speech), its use is just derived from societal changes in language norms (language evolves constantly)... I admire them trying to take criticism and do think the compilation is funny, but speaking with familiarity and processing language normally is nothing to be ashamed of! The same linguistic points have been made about the function of “um” ... anyway no hate to bevan, just worth considering. Most evidence shows that these patterns of speech are normal and have no bearing on anyone’s intelligence or capacity to have fruitful (in these cases, amusing) conversation 💁♀️

Everyone’s already saying it, but I don’t mind the “like” or “um” at all lol. When you guys started to watch that video I genuinely got kinda sad because I get what he’s saying in the video, but I think it’s a big part of what I love about the podcast. People say “like” and “um” ALL THE TIME in casual conversation. I love listening to the podcast because it’s funny and feels casual, there’s no script and nothing seems forced. If using the word “like” makes things more normal and comfortable for you guys, I don’t think any of us care in the slightest that you say it.
Hey Guys, Thanks for the shout out. I'm glad you took it well. I also have a video with all the 1,789 likes in all their glory, but I can't link it becuase UA-cam will flag my comment as spam
I actually studied the use of "like" in an english language class. It has a purpose in speech in a way that is totally different from "um." The reason people feel that it gets over used is actually because there are multiple ways to use it/forms of speech it applies to, so it can be used repeatedly and be grammatically correct. The big reason people find it annoying is that it's a pattern of speech that became popular among young women first, and carries that connotation with it, despite being used in casual conversation by most people today. So don't feel stressed about it! Most people don't notice it until it's pointed out, anyway.

No over-explanations.
I work for a veterinary clinic. Recently the doctor I work for has a dog that had very similar symptoms to what Noel was describing with Ollie. She thought it could have been pancreatitis at first, with fluids and treatment he seemed to get better. But then he would fall out again over the next few days. He is stable now but long story short she thinks he had a reaction to a bee sting. She found a dead bee near her back door, and when he was well again she witnessed him chasing bees in the yard. I think that this could be what Ollie experienced. I can't diagnose for certain but after Noel said they keep finding bees in their house, and even found a dead one inside. Just thought to mention it.

I never thought about the whole vertical content VS horizontal content thing before now and I am now consumed by this idea. Storytelling isn't meant for vertical formats and I am now very aware of that thank you
Great first part of the video! I work as an English teacher, and often try to encourage my students to get rid off “lingual crutches” such as “Like”, “kind of”, and saying really or very too often. These are lazy words we use when we can’t muster to think of colourful, more accurate descriptors. Read books everyone, and enrich your language! ✨

Shoutout to you guys for taking it like this, and word up to Bevan its hard to critique things you enjoy but this will only make the pod better, good on you guys for wanting to get better always above ego
OMG finally someone pointed it out. Whenever I'm listening to a podcast i LIKE to count how many times you say they word repeatedly, and I moticed that too, i was thinking of making a cut of "LIKE" putting like on the title and like on the description, like 150 times
I love the idea of the Like, Charity jar! Could make it a charity of the month thing too where each month you pick a different charity or even just giving to a certain local organisation like an animal shelter or a school or something
idk if anyone else feels this way but tmg have this way of making their ads so genuine and interesting that it makes me want to listen to them lol. they always manage add this personal touch to it with their comments and jokes. like i swear i always skip ads on other podcasts but tmg podcasts? nah i wanna listen to have they have to say.
:( hope Ollie gets better real soon. Vets and unknown health issues are so not fun and I just had to deal with that recently so I hope it’s sorted out quickly for you. Much love to you guys.
These two inspires me so much that i couldn't help it but to make a podcast me and my friend, plus we are in quarantine so fuck it why not, i love you guys so much.
Y’all are definitely giving this guy to much credit. If it’s something y’all genuinely wanna improve then go for it, but I honestly never noticed it. It also seems pretty arrogant of this guy to want to conform how y’all speak just to appease him, this isnt 1840, we can use like in our sentences now and it’s, like fine. This guy definitely seems like they type of dude who always corrects his friends grammar. Also, since like is naturally part if your vernacular, I’m sure it helps your brain flow between bits and ideas without constantly trying to not use a specific word. Just some thoughts. Love the pods
it’s one of my biggest pet peeves when someone criticizes/picks on the way someone speaks/pronounces words/etc. everyone learns different ways to pronounce things and geographically language is different. nobody can help the way they communicate, that’s just the way they learned to talk. idk maybe it’s just me but i don’t like correcting someone when they say/pronounce something off cause i get the gist, you know??
We used to do these exercises in my communications 100 class and we would talk about anything in front of the class for a couple minutes and every time we said like or um the students would knock and that shit was one the worst things to go through I
My US History teacher in high school brought up the like issue to all of her classes in order to try and kill the heavy use of it. I was her last class before she retired, and surprisingly, it worked because she would call us out no matter what assignment or speech we did. Can't remember the last time I said like for anything other than its actual definition because my teacher made me annoyed of that habit lol
The funny thing about this is that when you guys were talking about Quibi my UA-cam had an ad break and the ad ended up being Quibi, had me dying laughing
So I teach Public Speaking and what I do to teach students to get rid of filler words (like ‘like’) is that we have them speak for a while and the other students in their group write down the filler words the speaker uses. Then they give their speech again and every time one of their filler words comes up the whole class has to scream it back at top volume. It works surprisingly well and is also pretty fun to do and watch.
Hi there!! I love you guys so much, and when you mentioned bees towards the end of the podcast I had to say something. My boyfriend and his family have a small bee company where they will come in and extract the bees from where they are (as long as it doesn’t cause too much damage to the house), and then they’ll use the bees for their honey, candle making, beeswax business. It’s really cool actually, and I’ve helped with a few removals myself. If you want to get the bees out I would find a local bee company like my boyfriends that will put good use to the bees, rather than just killing them. I would do this fast because the bees, at the moment, are in “darth”, which means they’re not looking to make honey. At the moment, they are more worried about getting pollen for their own food source, as well as making more worker bees. If you wait until May or so to get rid of the bees it’ll be more difficult. If y’all want I can give you my boyfriend’s company contact information if you want to know more. We’re in Texas, so getting out there would be a struggle due to the whole COVID-19 situation. Love y’all and stay safe!
"Like" actually holds a meaning in conversation, I think you have to be trying to look out for it to notice it, and then after noticing it, what makes it annoying is the mindset that it's something wrong.
I had to take a Public Speaking class for college once, one of the assignments was to describe a random topic we were given without saying “like” or “um”. It’s genuinely really hard when you’re actively trying not to say it while speaking organically
Oh my lord I love Rachel Brosnahan 😂 she plays a comedian in the show Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. It's a great show set in the 50's and it starts off with her husband trying to become a comedian and she's the supportive housewife. It's an awesome show
Two minute songs are not long enough my dude. If it's a good song I want it to bless my ears for three minutes, even if that's because of intros, bridges, instrument solos, or outros, I want it
I know someone else on her said it, but as a UX/UI designer, you guys need to make a seperate podcast having to do with web/mobile app development. I fucking loved the rational and everything you guys talked about with formating and UX aspects. Really good shit.
this is a long shot but i have a chihuahua too and she gets ear infections every year. they have big ears so it happens. if i touch her head sometimes she squeals like that too and tries to hide her head bc her ears are itchy and/or painful. something to consider discussing with a vet. hope lil king gets well soon!!

14:16 Just your friendly neighborhood hypebeast checking in to let you know that you’re probably thinking of either a Medicom Be@rbrick or a KAWS Companion
i didnt want to be the one to say it lmao
Yeah
Shoutout to you guys for taking it like this, and word up to Bevan its hard to critique things you enjoy but this will only make the pod better, good on you guys for wanting to get better always above ego
pauses replacing like is good too. Also builds the suspense for what is next to come.
Cody: Today's FREE episode 😉
Noel: Aaah 😏
Nazhussain07 thats hot
IM CRYINGG AT THE THOUGHT OF A CONDESCENDING CHARITY LMFAOOO
OMG finally someone pointed it out. Whenever I'm listening to a podcast i LIKE to count how many times you say they word repeatedly, and I moticed that too, i was thinking of making a cut of "LIKE" putting like on the title and like on the description, like 150 times
I just now noticed it I’m normally feeling relaxed while listening to the podcast and now this dude just made me think about everything happening
I love the idea of the Like, Charity jar! Could make it a charity of the month thing too where each month you pick a different charity or even just giving to a certain local organisation like an animal shelter or a school or something
noel: maybe we could feed some poor kids cody: that sounds cool and all, but those collectible bears tho...
tmg podcast is pretty good?? You guys get me though my work shift and my co-workers think im nuts for laughing so hard all night
idk if anyone else feels this way but tmg have this way of making their ads so genuine and interesting that it makes me want to listen to them lol. they always manage add this personal touch to it with their comments and jokes. like i swear i always skip ads on other podcasts but tmg podcasts? nah i wanna listen to have they have to say.
:( hope Ollie gets better real soon. Vets and unknown health issues are so not fun and I just had to deal with that recently so I hope it’s sorted out quickly for you. Much love to you guys.
7:43 Cody is tickle me Elmo in a skin suit
These two inspires me so much that i couldn't help it but to make a podcast me and my friend, plus we are in quarantine so fuck it why not, i love you guys so much.
As someone from the San Fernando Valley (where the whole "like" thing started) I FULLY endorse you guys saying "like". Gives me hometown pride
ua-cam.com/video/jH3GEfZ2TuI/v-deo.html ur welcome
"What's up mood" Imma use that now. It's too late.
Can y’all put a moan warning in the description so i know if i should wear headphones or not?
at this point, i just assume there's gonna be moaning in every video lol
wait when is it
i just put in headphones or make sure I’m basically alone every time I listen. That’s the compromise of liking this podcast lol

My favourite part of every episode is when Cody kills Noel with his fantastic segues into the ads, it gets him every single time. Comedy gold
This is how someone should look at criticism by them being able to laugh at themselves makes me love these guys even more. Keep it up you two!
it’s one of my biggest pet peeves when someone criticizes/picks on the way someone speaks/pronounces words/etc. everyone learns different ways to pronounce things and geographically language is different. nobody can help the way they communicate, that’s just the way they learned to talk. idk maybe it’s just me but i don’t like correcting someone when they say/pronounce something off cause i get the gist, you know??
I’ve never noticed honestly, I’ve only noticed the funny facial expressions cody makes every once in a while😂
You guys being natural is what makes the videos what they are.
We used to do these exercises in my communications 100 class and we would talk about anything in front of the class for a couple minutes and every time we said like or um the students would knock and that shit was one the worst things to go through I
dude i usually hate podcasts but you guys are like one of the only not boring ones
I never noticed the overload of the word like, but because of this episode I can’t stop thinking about it.
I can't wait for 'its like charity' that's really cool!
The funny thing about this is that when you guys were talking about Quibi my UA-cam had an ad break and the ad ended up being Quibi, had me dying laughing
Another episode where i think “this would be a cool one to watch half way through”... and now i’m here
So I teach Public Speaking and what I do to teach students to get rid of filler words (like ‘like’) is that we have them speak for a while and the other students in their group write down the filler words the speaker uses.
Best part of my Saturday ily. Hope Ollie gets better 🤧💕
I rather you guys be comfortable saying "like"/"um" & even downright stuttering than yall be little talking robots. Love yall
"Like" actually holds a meaning in conversation, I think you have to be trying to look out for it to notice it, and then after noticing it, what makes it annoying is the mindset that it's something wrong.
Hearing Cody and Noel day my name 100 times in 3 minutes was a very surreal experience.
I’m English and I thought Bevan was English until he said “like” 😂😂😂
He might be Kiwi. It’s basically between the two
same fool

@@lacari0805 what? no it isn't kiwi is basically aussie without any vowels. . . last i checked poms say their "e"s
Robert Shaw No idea what a “pom” is and kiwis definitely say vowels, they’re more of a dulled down Aussie and slightly English RP
all i can focus on during these podcasts now is noel's hair 😔
Or lack of hair
Ryan Kelly i miss it lmao
his what now?
That ad read transition was frictionless

this is a long shot but i have a chihuahua too and she gets ear infections every year. they have big ears so it happens. if i touch her head sometimes she squeals like that too and tries to hide her head bc her ears are itchy and/or painful. something to consider discussing with a vet. hope lil king gets well soon!!
