@@saam6768 you change the setting in the MIDI centre....mine is pretty much set to sequence hold but when performing you need the flexibility to get free...
Richard, I know you said you didn't care about the lack of CV options on the DM-2W... but if it had CV inputs you could've done audio rate delay by patching the Microbrute's sequencer to it! You could also create a chorus effect by using the Microbrute's LFO out. You could also probably put your guitar into a clock divider/multiplier and use the pulse that is produced to clock the delay thus making the delay time relative to the pitch you play on your guitar. There are so many possibilities! Just food for thought :).
Rich Beech I understand-- I was only giving you a hard time (sorry :P). Anyways, you two managed to get some really great sounds w/o any of those CV I/O's, and great sound is all that we're really after in the end :). FWIW, I think you and Nick could do a great guitar/synth collaboration video.
Jorge, while I don't own one, the Moogerfooger MF-104M looks like the most interesting delay pedal to me. It's analog though, so it's not going to be super long and clean.
I love the slow decay into over complication then noise, reminds me of my own synth work, it's fun to build something nice and lovely and drive it off a cliff into something completely different.
Thers so many samples in this video. You can make a clean complex song to the sample sounds in this video combined with other natrual iinstruments added in rhythm.
I enjoyed the jam. Part of the appeal of the Mini and MicroBrute is letting it run and getting lost in the pattern. It was interesting to find that listening to someone else, has the same appeal for me.
I also use a Holy Stain with my microbrute. Definitely works best on the "clean" setting. The volume jumps all over the place on that pedal when switching settings.
I don't know, there's something extremely funny about you two focused on a little space and alternately grabbing one knob or another. I don't mean in negetively of course. Quite a catchy sequence
im sure a good many people bought the microbrute without much thought as to what it could do with a computer. mines been sitting about a foot away from my laptop for months now and not once did i wonder if there even was a software editor lol good to know i guess, i'll probably be sticking with the paper clip
my real favorite is sustained notes from another sequencer. machinedrum pairs real nice with the brute - transpose a sequence all over the place and play with the gate time with motion locks.
Isn't there a software switch for keeping the sequencer running without pressing a key? Cute guitarist solution the pick between the keys. :) Still very nice sounds.
Wouw awsome guys! I sent you an email yesterday asking exactly that and the next day a video comes up! Great job! Now could be really nice and interesting to continue like that and make it systematic : Everytime you try a pedal if you can plug a little synth in it would be awsome! Thanks guys!
the pick jammed on the key, its there to sustain the note? or just as a pick holder? and, the build of the microBRUTE's easily endures that tension? great jam!!
ben1210 It's even much easier if you use the "MicroBrute Connection" Software: If you connect your Microbrute via usb, you can change the option "Play" (under "Sequencer Control") from "Note on" to "Hold". Then the microbrute will keep playing the sequence based on the note you have played last! And of cause you can transpose live by pressing another key. (Too bad you can't change that option on the fly without a usb connerction to a laptop.) There are also some other interesting controlls hidden in the software!
Thanks for this chaps! 1/3 of the time my guitar pedals are used on guitars... 1/3 on synths and 1/3 on drum machines! God that white Micro is pretty. Dont know if its pretty enough to justify buying a 2nd Micro but its close :-)
what if they suddenly both reach for the same knob and their hands touch? Will they look into each others eyes? I dont feel comfortable with this 2 men-1 synth approach.
Nice track. How did you wire it all together? Nobody who does these kinds of vids shows which plug goes where.I just got a 'brute and I have no idea how to connect it to other gear (total newb). Thanks!
I think Edd should start doing demos of the same pedals that Rich demos but on synths... No one is demoing pedals on synths and i think you guys should start doing that and i think Edd would be perfect for the Job ... Cheers rKs
DoodleKaboodle Yes i guess moving with modern times digital technology is more conveinent in ways . Im not dissing laptops and vsts tech as personally i think they are very inspirational. I eventually got rid of my cumbersome slow akai sampler as soft samplers are far better for workflow when it comes to writing and sequencing music. However when it comes to jamming i love the hands on challenge of hardware. Hope that made sense .
So basically a $299 monosynth with $600 worth of effects to make it not sound like nintendo. In either case still the same crappy arpeggio and not even a fucking note hold function? Man, hipsters are easy! Arturia you lucky fuckers!
Fantastic! Two guys, one synth + effects....mesmerizing. Eight guys, one Buchla...unlistenable, plinky-plonk shite. I guess musicianship has its rewards eh?
Wow. That guitar pick as a key hold is a game changer!
+setvice toothpicks work too :-)
or changing the preferences in the arturia "connection kit" software can do this , too.
Its a novel idea, but does the microbrute not have a "hold" position on its gate switch like the minibrute?
@@saam6768 you change the setting in the MIDI centre....mine is pretty much set to sequence hold but when performing you need the flexibility to get free...
Keith Emerson was doing in with knives in the keys of his Hammond organ way back in the 1960's
They should have coffee shops in Amsterdam with guitar fx on the table.
+Andy M THAT is actually a really good idea!!
+Timecop1983 bumping into you everywhere lately
Sorry! I just LOVE UA-cam! So many great videos of synths and other things! :)
Timecop1983 i feel you man.
such a shame they didn't kiss in the end =(
ONLY thing I was thinking lol.. Mike Tyson voice: "Now, Kith!" Badass synth and sounds though.
If you turn the sound off, it looks like 2 hipster twisting knobs as part of an art project.
Laugh I nearly cried...

Joel Benoit or prepping the synth for a photo-shoot.

I own a MicroBrute... interesting post.

what delay/reverb pedal would you recommend for synths, Steven?
Jorge, while I don't own one, the Moogerfooger MF-104M looks like the most interesting delay pedal to me. It's analog though, so it's not going to be super long and clean.
I often come back to this little video. I like the two person approach and sparsity to the sound build up.
Get Gaz and his toys in there! I'd love if this became a regular feature
Rich Beech Yes Please! Fun jam... and having Gaz in the mix would only make it better!
Turm Ulus Good call- I'm looking forward to it!
Great video. I'm always glad to hear some guitar pedals used with a synth.
I love the slow decay into over complication then noise, reminds me of my own synth work, it's fun to build something nice and lovely and drive it off a cliff into something completely different.
Thanks for this and the trick with the guitar pick. I like that!
Gotta love the Microbrute ;)
This was great guys!
This really is very nice. Great exploration of ONE sequence. As far as pedal go, you could experiment with loopers... In fact, I think I will!
So cool... Keep doing what you do and always remember, keep living the dream.
That sounded awesome. The multi-overtone pedal fits really nicely in a synth setup.
I'd like to see this done with a TC flashback x4 delay pedal. awesome video. Great work.

I found it slightly amusing that the boys hadn't gone into the Microbrute's software editor and turned on the sequence latch function.
Richard Beech to be fair I only noticed about half way through the video!
im sure a good many people bought the microbrute without much thought as to what it could do with a computer. mines been sitting about a foot away from my laptop for months now and not once did i wonder if there even was a software editor lol good to know i guess, i'll probably be sticking with the paper clip
But they're not connected to the computer... I use a 3.5mm cable wedged between keys for latch myself!
ghostly606 I use a wobble wedge from a restaurant, and also have never used the usb connection!

there's a certain fun & error element with outboard that's not quite there in the box. Doesn't necessarily mean you need those pedals ...
did not expect that transition at 3:53 gawd damn amazing !!!
Nice, would love more jam vids like this with just a few nice pieces of gear.
Hopefully you guys are recording outside of the work context! Your ability to cooperate is impressive :]
...this is really patient & polished√
Wouw awsome guys! I sent you an email yesterday asking exactly that and the next day a video comes up! Great job!

I have a Polara pedal and a Micro and Minibrute nice bit of kit.
2 guys 1 synth 4 FX... Awesome!
Also: glad to see someone else does the guitar pick sustain hack.
Good stuff, gents. I like how focussed you are.
I've been thinking about writing a delay-based, sequencer-based, song for my band. This is nice and inspiring. Simple but beautiful.
Proof.. that "gear" ...... IS WHAT YOU... make it. Very Nice!
Nice video ;) Nice synth . It's like they found an alien litle thing and start to analize it :))
That was was very relaxing. Most of It would be great for meditation. I remember something call New Age Music decades ago.
Cool track! Great sounds and playing.... :-)
I loved this jam, was wondering what did the outs of the polara go into?
So simple. So cool.
Reminds me of the Hotline Miami Soundtrack
+Poison Joe I think it could be renamed the Hotline Miami Synth!
the pick jammed on the key, its there to sustain the note? or just as a pick holder? and, the build of the microBRUTE's easily endures that tension? great jam!!
+petecarvalho it is to sustain the note
Love this!
Lovely sounds your getting there. You guys should call yourselves The Bearded Brutes! :)
Haha I do that trick with the guitar pick all the time too!
Stealing the plectrum trick, thanks chaps!
ben1210 It's even much easier if you use the "MicroBrute Connection" Software:

Simon Burkhardt Cheers Simon, handy to know.
use with pedals that have expression/CV inputs!

Oh lord - scratch that then! Lol - my standard black is almost grey with dust and crud... and it lives in a drawer, covered! Lol!
Richard Beech I guess my white MicroBrute will get a custom paint job eventually.
what if they suddenly both reach for the same knob and their hands touch? Will they look into each others eyes? I dont feel comfortable with this 2 men-1 synth approach.
So I could run a microbrute through my line 6 amp that has built-in effects? That would be fun.
like those effects nice to create music
Nice track. How did you wire it all together? Nobody who does these kinds of vids shows which plug goes where.I just got a 'brute and I have no idea how to connect it to other gear (total newb).
Thanks!
+dionisiogdrb Got it, thanks very much!
+threejean2011 no problem ;)
Inspiring.
Ah, synth journeys. They're wonderful, aren't they?
fantastic!
I think Edd should start doing demos of the same pedals that Rich demos but on synths... No one is demoing pedals on synths and i think you guys should start doing that and i think Edd would be perfect for the Job ... Cheers
rKs
hi can you vocoder style play a guitar through this?
Legit!
it got just too busy towards the end but mostly sounded brilliant most of the time.
Yes!
lovely!
love it!
Nice sequence, but I bet those pedals cost more than Microbrute
Awesome!!!
kind of went from 0 to 100 really quick haha
Very futuristic, literally knob twitching
Not familiar with the Boss multi overtone, but it sounds really lush, especially with a monophonic, single oscillator synth like the MicroBrute.
microbrute has a step seq?
Yep. It can capture and store 8 sequences. Variable rate playback.
It's pretty bad ass & SUPER easy to use√
Sad and envious Darren Lock (below in comments), obviously, only has his own knob to play with....
NICE!!!
Wouldn't exactly call it a "Jam"..But enjoyable nonetheless...especially the last minute and a half.
Good to see 0 laptops insight, this is how music jams should be done in my opinion anyway.
DoodleKaboodle Yes i guess moving with modern times digital technology is more conveinent in ways . Im not dissing laptops and vsts tech as personally i think they are very inspirational. Beginning sounds a bit Like aphex twin's On
missing beats
Awesome no softsynths here just hardware :)
fak that sounds good!
Couldnt get a loop pedal...?
Looks like a synth version of chess. Echo takes VCA.
folks-you nerds)))
just one dude next time please
bromance
Sounded cool but not much of a jam, sequence played over and over while adding effects.
Dude please just latch the arpeggio and free up your hand. MEH
Rich Beech What do you feel the advantage of using the Pick is?
Rich Beech for me the plectrum has a more analogue feel, which as a purist I value. Nothing like touching real knobs, Eh?
Rich Beech
You most think they are of the same lowly status as Drummers, huh? :P
( ...wicked nice upload√ )
hipsters n synthesizers
This kind of videos remind me why I study music: So I don't look like an ape fooling around with a repetitive motif. Musical standard is LOW.
So basically a $299 monosynth with $600 worth of effects to make it not sound like nintendo. In either case still the same crappy arpeggio and not even a fucking note hold function?

Love the hold function guys ^^
