Awesome video, I love my 5000A and luckily mine has the new 6013s already.. One thing I wish my 5000A had was pre-outs.. Pretty sure the 5000X has em the A does not.. Other then that they are very similar.. Little diff button/knob layouts and the dial on the 5000a and under is not multi-color which is a nice look on the X.. Great video and a nice warm sounding powerful old reciever.. Those late 60s / early 70s def have a look to them.
I have a 5000a. I havent opened it up yet. How can I tell if it has the good or bad board in it? I know that the bad board is #1040, does it have numbers that I can easily see? If not where are they? Thanks!
The boards are stamped. There are lots of threads on AudioKarma that address the boards with good pix - you can probably find some images of the location there.

Thanks! I still prefer the 4000 for bang for the buck, but the 5000x is by far the best looking of the bunch.
@@millervintagehifi3034 I haven't had the pleasure of hearing a 4000 but I would never pass up any from this generation..
You have 70s JBL speakers get the 5000a , for the klipsch get the 5000x for best warmth’s and low bass
I don’t know that I’ve come across a bad receiver/speaker pairing for any of the #000 series.

There might have been some of the bad boards on the very early X's, it was mainly on the A models.
Thanks!
