That’s great advice to the young watch enthusiast. Never go into debt for a hobby...work & save & you will appreciate it more when you own it free & clear!
Chris great post ! never go into debt for a hobby and thats not just for watches thats for everything. It to me along time to realize it when I was younger but living outside of your means never brings happiness and is not the way to live.

17:37, that right there, nail on the head. I got into watches much later in life, so I purchase the ones I would wear the rest of my days (25 years left, maybe?), so I do factor in passing on my collection to an eventual grandson to a small degree.
Watches were so important in my family. When you were old enough, and showing signs of maturity, you got a watch, and you were on a path of growing and learning responsibility. I have had a watch ever since i got my first one, which was a Timex Marlin, wish i had it now, its long gone sadly.
I am very new to The world of watch collection. I found about 10 watches cleaning my house during the Lockdown, replacing batteries, straps on a wide variety of watches from a Tag Huer my in-laws gifted me, too a few Fossil my late wife gave me, a Luis Piccard my daughter gave me and 3 Timex watches my parents gave me as a kid that were stocking stuffers. A iron man, Expedition and a plain version and all of them still work. I recently purchased a few Diesel since I have big wrists at almost 8" and then after watching your channel bought two Orient Bambino and a couple of Timex, a Weekender and a Mod 44. I then bought a few Vostok since the first Komandirski was just so cool to wear. I am done buying for now but looking to get my first Grail by Christmas. As a private pilot since 98 I have seen Breitling advertising in my AOPA magazines and love the history. I visited my local dealer who gave me the new brochure which is really a book. I read through it and absolutely adore the Navitimer and its history. Learning to fly by using a similar device to plan my flights and having it on my wrist is a huge appeal since now we plan on computers now. Would you buy brand new or used Navitimer? I enjoyed the buying of cheaper watches, but now it's time to step up and get a real watch. Thank you in advance
For a beginner looking to get into mechanical watches, I’d look at Seiko, Hamilton, and Victorinox. My first mechanical watch was a Victorinox Ambassador.
It took me four months of learning about different kinds of watches (along with one Tissot Ballade which I returned) until I pulled the trigger on a Christopher Ward diver. I couldn't stand divers at first but after educating myself it's the complete package. I've only got one other watch, one I wore for four years daily that nowadays serves as a watch to wear when things get a tad rough.
congrats!! which christopher ward did you end up getting and how do you like it? i’ve been looking into the trident recently as i’m really into their design and am just interested in as many other peoples opinions i can find
@@benjones7731 The C60 Trident in 38mm all black. As stated, for my needs it's the complete package. The thing absolutely loves light with all the little brushed-polished details on hands, indices and case, light reflects off of it in a way that pictures and videos don't do justice to it. I find myself just looking at the thing and adoring it multiple times a day. Some people have a problem with the brand name at 9 but it definitely doesn't bother me. The lume is very good with the bezel also lumed. And the accuracy is top notch, although I do track it daily and can maintain it near +/-0s a day by positioning it differently when off-wrist. I could write even a longer description but the watch is definitely worth the money and even more in my opinion. If that's the one you are looking for, go for it.
I like your idea on being careful and thoughtful with each watch purchase. Definitely don't wanna jump the gun and blow tons of cash, only to realize that you hate the watch
Means a lot Antonio! Whatever you decide on it won’t really matter. The sentimental nature of the piece will be worth it regardless. Congrats by the way and thanks for watching!
I work in a jewellery store that sells some more entry level to medium level watches (Tissot, Seiko and Rado) in New Zealand. We’ve opened up our country and our sales have been steady, even some days getting to pre COVID levels. Hopefully this trend continues with other countries
I agree, I think learning the most you can before making a purchase is definitely the way to go. Also there are always alternative watches at any price point, so if someone has the means then pulling the trigger on something you like is the way to go. Used vs new depends on the reference. I bought my first watch a Breitling Navitimer new, with a discount. But the reference, the dial and strap/buckle combination is not the used market (I found this out later). So I was surprised and quite happy to learn this, it’s a common piece but a unique reference. If the price is right and you know what you’re getting then go for it.
I went from one to fifteen watches in about 3 months.. And then back down to four when i realised i never wore 90% of them. It sure is a journey (and an obsession..) The one i enjoy the most is my old Omega Seamaster Pre-bond. Hugs my smaller wrist sooo well. If you come across one in good condition, get it.
When I finished elementary school (6th grade in Mexico), I wanted a watch (my first ever). My father offered me a Speedmaster, but it was 1980 and I wanted a Citizen LCD (they were about $200 at the time, probably a little less than the price of a Speedy, I don´t know). So he was disappointed, and gave me an Armitron LCD (which played Yesterday and Hey Jude...). Becoming a watch fan, and looking back in time, this is one of the three times that I regret not paying attention to dad. As you suggested, you can do some stupid things when you are a kid... so your advice to the young person's question suits me.
Eye Heart Sushi l’d like to think I would. However, there was a robbery in my house and the Armitron was stolen with some other things from my bedroom. The thieves only got got there... So who knows... 🤣
The importance of re-sale value is not flipping the watch, is about knowing you can recover a higher amount the original price if you have an emergency.
Good advice as usual, Teddy. Can you do a video on the pros and cons of different buying options for luxury brands? Online, vs. authorized distributor vs. gray market dealers? Thanks!
Hey Kurt I just did a video on this exact topic on my channel. Please take a look, its titled " is Jomashop a scam " click my name and you should see it
I made the mistake of wanting a collection when I started. In the course of 1 year I had purchased 75 watches. I Received a '72 Rolex Sub for my 30th birthday in 1992 but my purchases go from a Hamilton Ventura Automatic at the top to a few Casio's at the low end. Bulk of the middle group is Seiko and Citizen. If I were to do it over again I would follow your advice and save up for a small group of finer watches.I will say that I change to a different watch each day so they do not just sit in the watch boxes side by side under glass. Thanks for your sound advice.
My one bit of advice is this: go quartz. They are more accurate, tend to be cheaper to buy, tend to be more reliable, tend to be cheaper to service. I am not rabid about this - I have an automatic (SARX055).

Do you think AD's will be negotiating more on newer watches once everything opens up? I've been debating the new white dial Omega Seamaster 300M and would be willing to go new over used if the price is right.
I would wait a few months more, because when ADs open, they may be getting a feel of the situation just like you are. Wait until the ADs are *really* hurting. I’m sorry that it sounds harsh but the money is in the buy.
With so many close to perfect cloned movements, dials etc. out there in the market, I am very skeptical about buying vintage (frankenwatches), or second hand. Our bare eyes just cant spot the fakes anymore. More often than not, a good deal in the grey market is too good to be true for a newbie. You will also not have the experience of buying a first hand watch. What are your thoughts Teddy?
Since 1994 I seen my first Rolex Air King blue dial in Honolulu. Always wanted one. At that time it was around $2400 new. Still trying to get one. Got a Tissot Gentleman that is close. Now the price is around $5k used. Will see.
I would start with inexpensive vintage watches from the 1980s. . I would recommend a Raketa handwinder with an domed acrylic chrystal with a Raketa 2609ha movement. There are lots of interesting dials and plenty of spares and whole movements available. Any watch mender can adjust or repair. Prices start at $40. That's what I did, and I still wear that watch with brown or green clothes to go with the brown and cream dial My daily beater is a $350 black dial Sea-gull Ocean Star diver which ticks all the boxes for me, as it suits my smart casual look which is mostly black. I love a big diver on an all solid bracelet. 44mm on my seven and a quarter inch wrist is perfect. The Raketa is 36mm which is also fine. I have a vintage 33mm Omega gold watch, with a 266 handwound movement, on a gold bracelet that I inherited. I never wear as gold does NOT suit me at all as it looks silly small on me
All things being equal, do automatic watches have better resale values? For example, will a $2000 automatic watch have a better resale value than a $2000 quartz watch?
Teddy i have not yet seen anyone discuss how to care for ones watch collection, and what kind of storage one should have for their collection. I'm a woodworker and would love to know what features a collector should look for in storage devices. Thanks in advance.
I went to my local Target, Macys, and Walmart today looking for a cheap Casio or Timex. Maybe both. But unfortunately all 3 stores have completely stopped selling watches in store and have moved to online ordering only.
Im 22. I just got my grail watch a ROO on a steel bracelet. Traded my 116610LN and 14k Omega Seamaster Deville.I'm a big guy (6'4 225lbs) but have skinny wrists. It wears well at 42mm. The sub was the best watch ive owned but i have no regrets with the offshore. My rest of the collection are mostly cartiers a radiomir panerai and a franck muller vanguard diamonds. Ive had many watches in the past years i even had a 5711-1A at one point but i tend to trade them and move on fast. The one watch ill never sell was my 21st birthday gift its a 1860s civil war era AWC key wind sterling pocket watch
Interesting. Working at a brick and mortar, we have seen a steady hold, if not increase in sales. Maybe we are some of the lucky ones! Love the content.

Hey Teddy, I agree with your choice of Hamilton, they offer a wide variety of designs to fit almost every lifestyle within their price points. GREAT videos, keep them coming...!
Now i have one thing which i really want to do would love to go on shopping with you for one. Really will enjoy it. I think that watch shopping will definitely be a blast for me.
Thanks for answering my question, Teddy! Appreciate it! Honestly thought you would go with Mido, but Hamilton is a great choice. Keep up the great work!
Love your videos Teddy. Right now my collection consist of an AP Royal Oak stainless steel with the black dial, an AP Royal Oak Tantalum Rose Gold, a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust and a Montblanc Heritage Day Date. The issue is I don’t wear all the watches, as a matter of fact I usually always wear the last one I get. My question to you is, is it worth having a collection? Or would I be better off keeping one formal and one more sporty and then getting rid of them and buying a new one whenever I get tired of them? Right now I’m running out of excuses with my wife haha.
Thanks for the Q/A vid! I've owned random quartz watches growing up but bought my first "real" watch earlier this year - a Mido Baroncelli Heritage. Second is a gold Casio A178 on a black perlon strap for running haha. A lot different but they're the start to my collection and, for now, I'm just appreciating learning to change straps and size bracelets on my own. All these videos help change my perspective on what I'd actually like so I'm thankful for that. I used to think a Rolex would be the ultimate watch but I'd certainly appreciate a Grand Seiko a great deal more.
What up Teddy good video! I was wondering you're take on bulova watches and their position in the watch industry. I believe they have been stepping up with new models and even taking a nostalgic approach to their vintage designs with the Joseph bulova line. Are they undervalued or right where they need to be? Thanks for the content. Jah guide

Teddy please review the Omega DeVille Tresor 432.53.40.21.02.001 It's one of the most beautiful, timeless and elegant dress watches I have ever seen. Comes with an awesome movement too.
Teddy, have you ever tried on the Tudor Black Bay 58? Given its size proportions and vintage vibes, it seems like a home run for your taste, but curious if you have seen it in person?
Hi, Teddy. Excellent video, man. Good tips all around, especially the one about not falling in love with the idea of having a “collection.” Good choice of the VC Overseas as a “one watch for perpetuity.” I wouldn’t mind having an Overseas keeping me company for the rest of my natural life 😉
Love your Q&A session Teddy ! All the interesting questions and good insights from yourself . On Cartier, the view is intriguing . What do you think about cartier Santos Dumont ? I am thinking of getting it , but couldn’t decide due to the quartz / price tiers . Cartiers has good rationale ie Quartz movement make the case thinner which is important for a dress watch ; however not convinced by their claim that their ‘in-house Quartz’ justifying the pricing ..... should I look into second hand Santos Dumont just like tanks ? On Swiss entry level , agree 100% on tissot . Regarding the question ‘tips for kids into watches ‘ - I think generally , based on own experience , loving watches is like living in a lonely world . When I wear eg my GS snowflakes , Seiko presage , tissot gentlemen or my junghans , no one notice and give compliment . Hence you have to be able to stand the ground ie you own those watches - as long as you love it but not wearing it for other people . For general kids , they need group recognition (well, the ages of Facebook, Twitter , Instagram) if not they fall into this trap hole of buying more and more watches which are not worth the price eg ahem ... mvmt, DW, fashion watches Gucci , instead of seiko , Hamilton , tissot
Yeah I was upset when I went to Florida on vacation, and the OMEGA boutique was closed. I saved up all that money to get a first time new-watch purchase experience, and to try on a few different models. Guess I'll be ordering my first new watch, or waiting a couple months. Oh well.
Kenneth Mc blessing in disguise. It would've been good if you could have tried on the watches, but for Omega there are much better prices online (preowned or grey market) compared to boutique prices.
magicwheel1 actually this Covid crisis has shown us which brands are over valued and hyped . Market Dropping prices just evidence how unreal is the Rolex allucination. Omega watches stood at their price point
Hi, I got a question (quite long). I wanna own a mid-size Seamaster Professional (torn between aluminum and ceramic both cal. 2500). I want to know, in the next 20 years or more, will Omega still be able to service and restore Seamaster cal. 2500? I'm that weird guy who likes the watch to be as new as it can be. So, I would restore it all at some point. Just want to know if the Omega has the capability to do it. And perhaps, if someone knows the price? Or let's put it this way, if someone brings Seamaster from 70s 80s to Omega today, and say he wants it like when it left factory, will that happen?
I was interested in the jump hour, an interesting piece for the collection. Also easy to read!😊 . Looked for a few years and ended up with an Omega only made for a few years in the 90’s. Enjoy the hunt!
thanks for the video. Good point on collecting vs cherishing a watch. Not a watch question but where do you get your jackets? I see them a lot on your vids. not this one obviously.

Was tempted to go with the blue face Tissot Gentleman you did a video on a few months ago for the color check box but glad i went for the squale as the ceramic bezel is gorgeous

Since 1994 I seen my first Rolex Air King blue dial in Honolulu. Always wanted one. At that time it was around $2400 new. Still trying to get one. Got a Tissot Gentleman that is close. Now the price is around $5k used. Will see.
I got the Tissot gentleman powermatic 80! It hits all my marks and it's affordable 👌
Awesome watch! Enjoy!
That’s one of my dream pieces
I got the blue dial! Such a beautiful piece
have only heard good things about that watch tommy. Congrats, I want to try to get my hands on one myself for my channel
I have worn an Explorer II for 25 years. So nice. Paid $1000 for it in 95. It was used but new in the box. Guy just never wore it.
I only have like 4 watches in my collection. Tissot Seastar, Casio Mr. G, Apple Watch 5 and Rolex Yachtmaster rose gold
My Seiko-Epson watch has a built in inkjet printer...
That's what I did, and I still wear that watch with brown or green clothes to go with the brown and cream dial
My daily beater is a $350 black dial Sea-gull Ocean Star diver which ticks all the boxes for me, as it suits my smart casual look which is mostly black.
I never wear as gold does NOT suit me at all as it looks silly small on me
You should do a vid with Courtney on finding a strap to complement the watch!
big fan teddy! keep motivating
Thanks buddy! 🙌🏻
Interesting. What brands are you selling? Asking out of curiosity.
@@TeddyBaldassarre a lot of GS, IWC, Omega, and Norqain. But every brand is selling.

Thoughts on Tissot PR 100?
OMG you said “ let your freak flag fly “. So funny and off the cuff humor! Keep up the great videos. Thanks for a funny chuckle.
Wow. That was a lot of great content in 20 minutes. I like these Q&A Vids.I noticed that you and Courtney both got that Beautiful Grand Seiko in your vids today. 👍👍Awesome.SEIKO IS KING !!!
Thank you for helping me decide on my Rado CC 37mm 1962
Happy to help! Fun choice. I hope you enjoy!
great choice and very underrated diver in general!
Great piece. Just keep in mind the dial looks smaller than expected in person (for me at least)
Hey Teddy, I agree with your choice of Hamilton, they offer a wide variety of designs to fit almost every lifestyle within their price points. GREAT videos, keep them coming...!
cant go wrong with hamilton
Thank you for the amazing vid, Teddy! Very informative.
Thanks for watching! Had some nice questions submitted this week.
Hey teddy I have Omega constellation What watch go for next I go for Tissot gentleman t or sekio passage
Now i have one thing which i really want to do would love to go on shopping with you for one. Really will enjoy it. I think that watch shopping will definitely be a blast for me.
Grand Seiko SBGH269 and Rolex datejust are on my list truly beautiful every day watches and will be buying soon
Everyone’s first watch should be a Gronefeld or Greubal Forsey. 😂😍
A very interesting presentation, the variety with the nature of the questions posed kept my interest. Phil.
You can find different brands using the MT caliber, perhaps they have the solution to your problem
I wish you would do a review on the NFW watch brand from the US. They’re great
Thanks for the Q/A vid!
The wrist shots in this video were so crispy 😭
What up Teddy good video! I was wondering you're take on bulova watches and their position in the watch industry. I believe they have been stepping up with new models and even taking a nostalgic approach to their vintage designs with the Joseph bulova line. Are they undervalued or right where they need to be? Thanks for the content. Jah guide
I have a great hamilton tank from my grandfather, great memories. Good show and dialogue today Teddy!
I’ve been offers a omega seamaster at 40% discount to the retail price. Should I pull the trigger on this or wait a couple of months
What is the best way to trade vintage and newer luxury watches?
Hi Teddy, this is pretty random, do you prefer a Cartier Tank Louis or an IWC Mark XVIII Le Petit Prince?
Interesting answer for the american-made watches, thanks!
Would you still go for the american-made these days in terms of pure build quality?
Very well done with sound judgement...
Go team VC Teddy! tbh they are so often overlooked
What's substitute for the (A. Lange & Söhne Tourbograph Perpetual Pour Le Merite SIHH 2017)
I don't believe I'll get to the point to pay 6 figures for a watch.
As always great video Teddy
What are the entry level Italian, British and German watches?
Sales down but don’t see any discounts so not surprised. Got to give a little in this economy.
Teddy please review the Omega DeVille Tresor 432.53.40.21.02.001
It's one of the most beautiful, timeless and elegant dress watches I have ever seen. Comes with an awesome movement too.
Is Cartier santos also 97% down?? Or a grand reverso. ???
PLEASE EVERYONE LIKE👍
Teddy, please, make a video with a selection of watches with an integrated bracelet.
My local Omega dealer would only take 20% off. That was surprising given the economy.
Is Jomashop a good website to buy watches?
You inspire me to collect. Thank you very much.
I am honored buddy! Thanks for watching!
Wait...Teddy was saying to not fall in love with the idea of a collection. Mission failed, Teddy! LOLJK or maybe not.
Teddy, have you ever tried on the Tudor Black Bay 58? Given its size proportions and vintage vibes, it seems like a home run for your taste, but curious if you have seen it in person?
Yes I have. Love the fit, just not a big fan of the colorway. Wears very similar to my explorer ii which is my sweet spot for a sports watch.
Started with three seikos. Jdm sarb series. And bought another three Rolex. Just thinking of ending the collection with a Cartier dress watch
Do a pt 2 answering more questions from your post!
What's your impression of Minase?
Can you make a video on how you properly sized your Rolex?
Hi, Teddy. Excellent video, man. Good tips all around, especially the one about not falling in love with the idea of having a “collection.”
Good choice of the VC Overseas as a “one watch for perpetuity.” I wouldn’t mind having an Overseas keeping me company for the rest of my natural life 😉
Thanks my friend! The VC overseas is the grail. I am a while away from responsibly getting it but who knows what the future will hold.
Waiting will pay off.
B S Correct. Boutiques don’t discount much, if at all.
Eye Heart Sushi I got $1,000 off on my Omega Seamaster at an AD last week.
Luke MTECH AD, not a boutique.
Hi Teddy,
I would love to hear your opinion on the yema Superman heritage !!
Thanks
I’m just here hovering over like a vulture waiting for them Rolex prices to drop😈
try Omega, better value IMO :-)
Won't happen if the factory is closed long.
magicwheel1 actually this Covid crisis has shown us which brands are over valued and hyped . Market Dropping prices just evidence how unreal is the Rolex allucination. Omega watches stood at their price point
Crown and Caliber is slashing prices on pre-owned Subs.
They will drop by how much though? 200 maybe 300 dollars, in my AD they have actually gone up in retail price at end of last year.
Or let's put it this way, if someone brings Seamaster from 70s 80s to Omega today, and say he wants it like when it left factory, will that happen?
excellent videos- thanks! what are your thoughts on single-handed watches, such as defakto and meistersinger?
I was interested in the jump hour, an interesting piece for the collection. Also easy to read!😊 . Looked for a few years and ended up with an Omega only made for a few years in the 90’s. Enjoy the hunt!
I think they are interesting and are good fun. I am not sure if I would personally buy one though.
Very good points addressed.
thanks for the video. Good point on collecting vs cherishing a watch.
Not a watch question but where do you get your jackets? I see them a lot on your vids. not this one obviously.
Most of them are from Taylor Stitch. I assume those are the ones you are taking about.
As a relatively new watch lover ive felt obligated to center my collection around colors. Ive got my SARB035 for white, black khaki king, and Squale 30 atmos GMT Ceramica. Was tempted to go with the blue face Tissot Gentleman you did a video on a few months ago for the color check box but glad i went for the squale as the ceramic bezel is gorgeous
hey teddy, one watch i never see reviewed or talked about is the new 2020 hydroconquest from longines. As i am thinking about buying one i would love to have your opinion on it. Thanks for the excelent work!
Hey Teddy, love your videos. What’s your opinion on Luminox? I know they have mixed reviews but they mostly apply to the carbon watches. I have the Luminox Navy Seal Steel 3252 and absolutely love it. II feel most people don’t realize the value and durability of the steel Lumis
I like Luminox. Cool watches that serve a purpose. I see them as if victorinox and a g shock had a child haha. Many are not for me but they have some clean models and I have always liked the all blackout looks and they are typically crazy light.
Teddy Baldassarre Yeah i love them, the tritium lume is absolutely fantastic too. I cant stop looking at it at night lol. I also have a vintage Registered Edition Hamilton Ardmore and that’s one of my all time favorite watches. Your videos have really influenced me and I’m working on a collection. Slowly but surely
Cartier is definitely a fashion brand
