leo gets captured by draxum who found donnies shock collar he made for leo in one of the first episodes. draxum repurposed it to shock leo whenever he makes a sound. draxum makes a deal with big mama to make leo fight in the battle of nexus to strengthen him up. during that time the brothers are freaking out trying to find him. mikey sees on a tv that leos fighting in the arena and they rush to help him. however it takes them a few tries to because leo keeps running away from them not wanting to hurt them by shocking them (the collar also shocks leo if his brothers come near). they eventually capture him and take him back home and leo nearly dies. they patch him up and now theyre in the process of trying to figure out what to do now, since leo's mental and physical state is completely obliterated
Leo lost a bet and went to get pizza for his bros. On his way back, Draxum corners him. Leo tries to fight him off but he's only one turtle. He calls Raph, but Raph had his ringer off. Leo tries opening a portal with his sword and almost gets through, but he's dragged back by a vine. Draxum capture Leo and takes him back to his lab. When he's there, Draxum immediately goes about "reprogramming" Leo to become the perfect turtle warrior, using the shock collar Donnie invented as incentive. If Leo fails or disobeys, he gets shocked. Draxum sets it to go off in accordance to any rules he wants, and he can also just order it to go off, but the main ones are- no talking, no running away, and no interacting with any of the other turtles. Draxum can't remember what Leo's name is, but he does remember that Lou Jitsu named one of the turtles Green, so he assigns that name to Leo. Leo hates it. To help Leo progress faster in his "training", Draxum gives him over to Big Mama for two weeks in the Battle Nexus, promising she'll get the best fighter she's had since Lou Jitsu, but he must fight three times a day everyday, and must be returned when the two weeks is up. Big Mama agrees, excited to have more revenue for her Nexus. A new rule is added to Leo's collar- he must finish all of his fights. This is where Leo starts to really break. For days upon days, Leo fights, killing every single yokai that comes into the ring with him because he simply wants to survive. He begins to lose himself. He stops hoping for his brothers to come for him, because why would they come rescue such a failure? They were probably happy he was gone. After one particular fight, Leo comes back to his cell and goes to drink his water, only to look into his reflection and panic because he still has Yokai blood on his face. He scrubs and scrubs at it, but it doesn't come off. But of course it doesn't. It's his stripes. He's forgotten what he looks like. As the first week closes, Big Mama realises how valuable Leo is to her Battle Nexus. If she has to get rid of him, then her revenue will drop significantly. She tries to persuade him to forget about Draxum and join the Nexus as a permanent champion. She can offer him and his family protection from Draxum, better lodging and food, (which is desperately needed because he's been half-starved since the first day), and will even arrange for Leo to visit with his family on a regular basis. And he wouldn't have to worry about that dreadful shock collar anymore. Leo wants to agree, but he's terrified of Big Mama changing the conditions and leaving him worse off (at least he knows what Draxum is planning), or what Draxum would do to him if he found out about the deal and Big Mama couldn't protect him. So he declines. Leo continues to lose himself the longer he's at the Battle Nexus. One day he wakes up and realises he can't remember his own voice, he hasn't spoken in so long. But his brothers do finally come for him. They break into the Battle Nexus, after having finally discovered that Leo is the new reigning champion, and try to rescue him. But the last thing Leo wants to do is hurt his brothers. He can't speak to them to explain what happened, and he can't go with them, because that would be running away, and he can't let them take him, because he can't interact with any of the turtles unless to fight. But, Draxum didn't say anything about April or Splinter. So Leo tries to get April or Splinter to take him home, but they're busy fighting the Yokai that Leo was meant to be fighting. Donnie is tasked with getting Leo back to the Lair, but Leo fights him, nearly cutting his head off in the process. Donnie grabs Leo's arm, trying to get his brother to talk to him and explain why he's running away, but he creates a current when Leo's collar goes off and Donnie takes part of the shock. It knocks Donnie down, but Leo is barely fazed. Draxum appears and calls Leo through a portal, and Donnie recognises the collar as the tech he built. Draxum starts a Yokai uprising, but that doesn't matter. Leo is no longer Leo. Now fully back under the control of Draxum, and being so close to freedom only to have it ripped away, he's fully become Green. Green remembers nothing of his family or morals, only of Draxum's orders and what to do to survive. Huginn and Munnin finally realise that maybe creating a child soldier through mental torment and abuse might not be something that good guys do, and maybe Draxum is in the wrong here, so Huginn goes to seek out the turtles and help them get Leo back. He explains that only a non-turtle can save him, that he's required to fight them (and now Green has kill-on-sight orders) and that he can't talk. But knowing all this makes creating a plan possible. The Hamato Clan sneaks into Draxum's manor through an unprotected pipe that Huginn and Munnin use to come and go undetected, and April goes in by herself, trying to get Leo out. But when Green sees her, he immediately beings to try and cut her down. Draxum gave orders for him to kill any intruders. A small piece of him screams for him not to hurt April, but a bigger piece scream for survival. Just before Green can stab April through the heart, Draxum interrupts the battle, and he instead stabs her through the shoulder when he's given the "okay" to not kill her yet. The rest of the clan comes running in, ready to fight, and Green is strong enough to take them all on at once. Knowing the need a strategy, Mikey calls for a timeout and approaches Draxum, asking what he did to Leo. He tries to make himself sound interested rather than repulsed. He then asks if it would be possible for him to be strong like Leo, because he was sick of being treated like a baby. Draxum asks if he was trading his autonomy for the life of his friends and family, and Mikey said no, he just realized that Draxum was right, they were all weak, but Draxum could make them stronger. Draxum makes Green yield, and when he gets close enough to appraise Mikey, Mikey launches an attack, taking on the source rather than Leo. The fighting starts anew, but with Draxum unable to give direct orders, once Green is disarmed and restrained by Raph, he is left with nothing to do but struggle. Splinter opens a portal with Leo's sword back to the Lair and hurries all his children through, including a bleeding April. Back at the Lair, Splinter tends to April's shoulder while the boys go to the lab to get the shock-collar off. It's been tampered with, so none of Donnie's override codes are working. Leo is repeatedly getting shocked now, each time more powerful, and Raph with him as he holds onto his brother, refusing to let him go through the pain alone. Eventually, the shocks knock Leo unconscious. Donnie runs through the code of the collar, trying to find a string to pull on to override the system, but he's too late. By the time he has the collar off and open, Leo's no longer breathing and his pulse is still. It would take too long to get the AED defibrillators from the medbay, so he uses the shock collar to jolt Leo's heart back to life. The very thing that killed him, saved him. When Green wakes up in the Lair, he doesn't know what to make of it. He knows he belongs here, but he doesn't. This life was for a Leo long dead. Green automatically jolts and responds to anything that could be phrased as an order, regardless of the fact that the collar is no longer there. He doesn't say a word to his family. When Mikey tries to get him to communicate by asking what his name is and having him write it doesn't, he writes down "Green" rather than Leo or Leonardo. This breaks Mikey, who's been essentially holding his family together this whole time. He got his brother back, but did he really? Realizing communication is going to be an issue for the foreseeable future, Donnie gets to work on teaching everyone TSL (turtle sign language) so that Leo can still communicate without speaking. However, he doesn't really. There's no emotion or expression in his sign, which is very important. He is essentially just being a mirror and getting by. Donnie has been distant since rescuing Leo, worried his brother might blame him for the whole thing (it was his tech, after all) and this doesn't go unnoticed by Raph and Mikey. They leave Donnie and Leo in the Lair alone while they go pick up some pizza from Hueso's, even though neither of them really feel like it. They last time they had pizza, Leo didn't come home. They go in, and instantly the restaurant falls silent. Hueso kicks them out, and follows shortly after. He informs them that they need to stay hidden from any Yokai for a while, because Draxum and his Yokai uprising are all on the lookout for Leo, and Draxum really wants his turtle warrior back. When the boys were first looking for Leo, they made up missing posters with very detailed instructions on how to get to their Lair. These are probably going to bite them in the shells. Hueso collected as many of the posters as he could from up top and had an associate do the same in the hidden city, but he couldn't promise all of them were gone. It suddenly makes sense why, even long after they've found Leo, Donnie's alert system keeps going off. Donnie had been waving it off as false readings or leads, but now Raph and Mikey think that he knew about the Yokai uprising this whole time and that Draxum was looking for Leo, but he kept quiet, monitoring the whole thing through his screens by himself. Anyways, that's about where we are now. I recommend reading it for yourself though. It's an emotional rollercoaster that can only truly be appreciated through experience
