Many people in many forums, including myself, have complained about how difficult it is to depress the two tabs and to remove the head. Clearly, the design has changed at some point. Compared to yours, EGO added MONSTER pressure to the internal spring and possibly also stiffened and thickened the tab material on the ST1500. This also seems to have rendered the "bump to advance" feature to be essentially non-existent. Lots of us, including me who has rather large and I think pretty strong hands, resort to jamming screwdrivers into the tab slots and then using a THIRD screwdriver (while trying to keep the others in place and not slice ourselves) to pry loose a very tight head. So ... I'm in awe of your SUPERHERO hands, or at least, of the version of the product you have that allows you to just pop that sucker off like the pop tab on a can of Schlitz. Many of us are miserable with the ST1500.
I agree. I had to do the same thing And there was no way you can load the spool full. You either use short lengths of sting or you could fight with it all day. And it is way too heavy.
I came here trying to find out how to remove the trimmer head to unjam and reload the string. Mine is new **jammed the first time I used it** and I cannot for the life of me depress those tabs! Thanks for the info; I don’t feel so weak anymore. I’m taking it back to the place I bought it and let them get the head off for me. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
Yes removing the “top” by pushing in the tabs is difficult. Then getting the line trough easily to the other hole is downright frustrating. Had to lubricate the inside with “Superzilla” a “green” lubricant and finally the line popped through the second feed hole. I love the trimmer but when it runs out of line I take a seat for a while to re-load new line.
Me, 70 year old female, had to resort to the screwdriver…still was a challenge. I fed the line through the hole - the easiest part! - it came out on the other side right away. I evened it out so that the string was equal. Now I am trying to get the line to be drawn into the head! You seem to have to be “super strong”. I’ll keep turning it and hopefully it will eventually be drawn in. I bought this because I thought it would be easier to use and I liked the idea of a battery instead of an extension cord!
Oh, thank goodness I read this, I was beginning to think it was just me! As a female and not very big, I am finding it really frustrating to try and change the cord. It does not seem to feed the new cord through either as I use the strimmer just gets shorter and then non existent.
Agreed on the tabs being difficult. I doused the whole head in wd40 and wiped it down then jammed the screwdriver in and it popped off fairly easily. I’ve found that using wd40 or a silicone lubricant prior to disassembly of most anything really helps.
Mine wouldn’t come out either so I took 2 steps: (1) snipped off the end of each end because it was thinner on the tips due to weed whacking (I was re-installing the same line). (2) Made sure that the 2 ends were fairly straight and rigid. Then it worked perfectly for me!
@@maxedwellseven6724 As I replied to another user: Here is a little workaround that I use to feed out more string: how I do it: 1) Disconnect battery, for extra safety 2) Turn the trimmer around so you are looking straight at the so-called bump head from underneath 3) Depress the ring that encircles the center "bump" hub and rotate one "click." Pull the line from either side (at the same time) to feed it out. You get about an inch of line per "click," so repeat and pull out enough so that the line reaches the cutter built into the guard. You're done! I know, it's stupid we have to do this, and someone someday may hurt themselves doing it, but ... we all know the bump-feed mechansism on this trimmer is a non-starter.
I REALLY appreciate you showing me how to thread the line back through. Then, I tried turning it clockwise and it wouldn’t budge! I didn’t realize I had the “power load” model and stumbled across the button by mistake. I had the battery back in so I don’t know if it was required. Anyway, pushing the button and the thing wound itself - kind of like some vacuum cleaners pulling the power cords back inside.
Had the most success loading with your method Brian ….but mine doesn’t twist like yours ….mine broke & the line is not long enough….can you rewind the line back off & then reline it …thx
If you are trying to feed the string through, you must have the green "load lines" aligned with the holes where you are feeding the string in! Also, when winding the string in, you need the black bottom plate up a little not flush with the base, or won't work. Would have been nice to have that mentioned in the video....
The model we have have no green parts on the head whatsoever to align with. No markings. Had to move it with a fair amount of strength to the point of exhaustion (and I am pretty strong) until it worked. Then I used it for a bit, then it got stuck and I had to pry the head open yet again to get it long enough once more.
Nothing negative about the post-er, they posted their experience, so kudos to them. That said, you better have NBA fingers to move the trimmer tabs 2nd, trying to wind the string is a total PAIN. If you don't hold the base (closest to the armature winder), you won't be able to wind the string in. 3rd, the trimmer cuts a good 1 1/2 in above the grass, which means you'll be cutting grass often. Totally regret this purchase.
I try what is shown at the 1:40 Mark and the line gets all twisted around my hand. After all, you do have 2 separate lines that are free as you are twisting the top, so I don't see how you wouldn't get fouled up by the 2 lines as you are twisting the top.
I'm going to buy a different brand trimmer since i can't get the line into the reel inside the trimmer. It gets twisted around the silver head and my hand, but does not feed in.
hi Brian I really wish I had found your video before I messed up watching a video of an older eco model, apparently bc it is now a wreck, that I'm hoping u will be kind and willing to guide me to undo and repair, possibly so my model #ST1520S currently looks like a toxic and industrial rodent nest, bc I attempted to load in the "breather" slots at the very top of the head, and w each manual turn during this process, I managed to successfully bind the string within that area of the head of course, I idnt attempt to start the trimmer, so I'm hoping for a reprieve, and to save forty + dollars on the entire head replacement do you think we can get the string out, even if it must be done in pieces? thanks for your wisdom and expertise, and have a WONDERFUL NEW YEAR🎉 p. s. - My Mom and my fifteen year old grandson are the owners and operators of the trimmer, and she also has the saw, the blower, and one or two other pieces of eco power equipment, so regardless of this outcome, I am now a loyal subscriber! thanks again - Michelle update : turns out I cannot send u a pic here mea culpa hope u can try to visualize my dilemma, and offer a poss solution anyhow thanks again
Same thing happened to me last week. My notches were not totally in on the sides before I tried to push the string through. Make sure both notches are fully in.

That is a very accurate description & i’d have to agree. Those tabs are def not finger tip friendly.

Its true i just did it today. You gonna have to some a screwdriver for the tab.

Im 54 and I'm having the same problem. Im pushing down and turning. Its really hard
I have damaged hands & I resorted to bad words & using ink pen to open. Thanks for your video.
Much love, your video saved me!
Thank you for keeping me from going to the hardware store to ask a man how to do this! The directions are written like a college term paper.
Perfect! After fiddling for a year, I executed this 100% on the first attempt.
DUDE! Thanks for the refresher. I couldn't for the life of me remember how to refill the line on the older model
Thanks...just what I needed...I'm new to the Ego family...👏🏾

Can you do a video on how to bump and feed extra line properly, I’m having issues extending new line from my feed…thanks
You were sooo helpful! Borrowing my dad’s trimmer and this was exactly the step by step I needed!

❤❤❤❤TURN IT MANUALY COUNTER-CLOCKWISE to wind the string in, not "to the right."
Same here, until today. Now the line comes out when I bump it. How about that? lol
When you put the string in it automatically will wind up when you press the button. You don't have to manually wind it
Ever have trouble with the string, not extending when you bump it like me? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Yes, all the time!!!
String won't come out the other side how do I fix that?

Thanks for the info!! Mine won’t spin-will not wind up string.
I can get it through, it won’t “click n wind!”
Thanks for your reply and time.
Appreciate your simple explanations. Thank you 😊
This was just what I needed to know. Thank you so much. Also I love the brief efficient format. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Awesome happy you liked it!
Thank you so much! Always struggle with the trimmer! 😂
Well played and thanks for the video!
Gee,
I was only doing it wrong for 2 years lol
Thank you
Thank you. It’s been a while since I had to replace my string and I could not remember how
I actually need to watch that video tomorrow so I remember how to do it
Great tutorial - thanks. What string length will it accommodate?
Thank you , I just read the whole instruction booklet cover to cover and no we’re does it tell me how to re string the line
Worked perfectly as described !! Thank you !!
Trouble shooting if it doesn’t tighten?
Mine won't turn to the right
I was pushing the cap down so it did not work with me. It took me 15 minutes to know I should pull (not push) the cap to make it work. Thanks
Great video. Thanks for posting it
Thank you for the great tutorial!
Thanks. You saved the day.
Thank you 👍

How long a piece should i put in?
10' is a good length that should last a while.

Thanks dood helped a lot
Thanks so much for this video.
I noticed he only put a short piece of line on it. I want to see a full load and see how long it goes while running before screwing up.

You are the best thank you
This worked great except mine has a button by the head and when i push it, it winds the string for me
How much string do you cut before making it even?
Thank you so much
I'm going to buy a different brand trimmer since i can't get the line into the reel inside the trimmer. It gets twisted around the silver head and my hand, but does not feed in.
Mine wont turn to the right to tighten
I'm having the same issue with mines
See my earlier comment. You might have the “Power load” model which is really great and simple to use!
Legend - thanks
Line doesn't thread through. What do?
Im saying
Thank you so much!!!
Strimmer cord is only showing on one side only after 5 mins of strimming ?
My line doesn’t go through the thing on the inside is in the way how is his doing that ??
I can’t get the head to turn to get the string in
Any idea why I can't turn the top piece either clock or counter clockwise? Had the whole thing apart and cleaned it too.
See my earlier comment. I’m betting you have the “Power load” model. There is a button near the head that you push in and it will rewind itself!
@@maxedwellseven6724 It's not power load, and just bought a new head, works great, thanks for the reply tho.
The newest ones just hold the preload button and boom it’s done

update : turns out I cannot send u a pic here
mea culpa
hope u can try to visualize my dilemma, and offer a poss solution anyhow
thanks again
My battery is charged but it just slowed down then stopped. Sounds as though the motor has stopped working. No power getting thru.
Thank you
Thanks!
My Go weed eater won't feed when I tap/bang it.
Does this work for the ego st1201?
you rock, tytytytytytyty!
I love the mower and blower but this weed wacker is the biggest piece of shit!
Mine is a giant pain in the ass, can never get it
Mine doesn’t allow me to remove it
Use a screwdriver to push the tabs in.
Just cannot get the string to come out the other hole. Beyond frustrating. Terrible design.
Thank you so much
Thank you!

String won't come out the other side how do I fix that?
Same problem, any luck getting it to feed through?
I pushed down on it (compressing the spring) while pushing the string through and it went.
Thank you... 😊👀 💯
