The Meross three way switches are pretty easy to install and reliable. I installed several last year and they work great. They also just need one switch at the furthest of the two three way switches.
I just installed a Meross 3 way switch today with Homekit support. So far, so good. Price was right and instillation was easy. However, the switch (plastic) feels cheap to me. I don't have much experience with wifi switches like this for comparison, so they may all feel cheap.

I had a cluster of Neutral wires I did not want to unravel, so in one location I opted for the Lutron Caseta Dimmer that you mentioned that does not require a Neutral, and it came with a Pico Remote I used in the other location, and I just eliminated that switch altogether. Looking forward to watching you HomeKit Series.
Nice! I use the Aqara relay to do this. Brazil's power grid uses two voltages variants. 127V 60hz and 220v 60hz. Also, our wall box is the same as in the USA. 4x2. So as I live in the 220v 60hz part with a 4x2 box. Is quite difficult to find 4x2 220v. In the past, I found some smart plugs sold by Wemo in the US which specs were only for 110v but works everywhere. 5 years and it didn't catch fire yet. The only catch with Aqara relays is the noise.
Hi, Shane, thanks for your informative videos! I'm curious why you'd choose this switch instead of a Lutron Caseta? It's cheaper, but is it better? And it is wifi only, right? I see that as a detractor...
Do they have any temperature range issues? We have three way switches in our garage in Michigan, it’s not heated per se (dryer vents into garage so so w heat is added by that when it’s running) but otherwise it gets cold in there. I just want to be able to the control the main switch actions with my second switch via homkit wifi app. Obviously I will have power only to the 2nd switch but no switch wire to the light. will this work?

Help. I’ve been installing Meross single and 3 way switches. So far 100% success rate with the single pole. About 50% success rate with 3 way. The problem is with wiring. One gang box had pretty straight forward looking sets of wires and I was able to follow the diagram in the instructions fairly easily. Both switches worked fine and the lights functioned as intended. My stairwell switches were an entirely different story. Again, I followed the diagram, but no luck. I’m thinking there were wires I should have or not have used that I missed? Maybe different circuit running through the gang box? Neutral wire issues? Is there a fool proof way to troubleshoot or specific issues I should be looking out for when it comes to wiring?
I don't think this switch is sold anymore. All 4 retailers on your affiliate link do not have this product. Do you have a new recommendation for a 3-way switch?
I like your channel. Just got Home Pod Minis. It looks like you are showing that the Wemo 3 way switch does motion? Is that true? I have not found that wording on their website.
I've had a reasonable level of success with Wemo switches, both the 3-way and the dimmer versions. I've noticed that they often fall off the WiFi and I've had issues with the switches needing a full reset to get them back in action. But as always, great video!
Thanks for sharing Howard! I was worried about that reliability also. So far mine haven't had any issues. Hoping they continue to maintain that reliability over time. I'll definitely notice immediately if they do since I have mine in one or two automations that'll get used multiple times a day.
@@ShaneCreates One thing that I did in my router was to create reservations for each of my Wemo switches (I have 6 of them), and that certainly has helped, although I will notice that a switch gets into "blink" mode from time to time.

Great video Shane! Quick video request: can you do a mid 2021 current best technology overview for new homebuyers ie best lights, security system / camera, switches, etc.? Some great stuff that is 1 yr old, but is it still current?
Hey Shane, would you consider doing a video on using the "Bond Bridge" + Hoobs/Homebridge to add non-smart devices to Homekit? The Bond Bridge is basically a gizmo that lets you record and playback wireless remote signals to your whole house - so you can use it to control things like "dumb" ceiling fans or anything else that uses an RF remote. It doesn't directly have homekit support but there is a hoobs/homebridge module for it.
Great details, seeing what you’ve done might make me do the same when we move next month. Had just figured I’d either leave things the same or go with a hub solution. Thread, that’s great to see. Just got a Hue one, I’d be curious how much more the WeMo one would be with Thread.
Thanks for the video Shane, unfortunately I did not have the same luck as you when I tried to install this light switch at my house. It did not work properly for some reason. I ended up with a Meross 3-way light switch. I have the Wemo light switch in other rooms, but the 3-way did not work for me.
Sorry to hear that Antonio. Setup was seamless for me (once I realized which switch on that 4 way circuit I needed to change). But I'm glad you got something that works for you. Thanks for watching!
I don't know of any zigbee HomeKit switches that support 3 way installations. Lutron Casetta would be the closest thing (not zigbee - they use their own proprietary ClearConnect wireless protocol). Aqara switches connect via zigbee to their hub, but last I checked they are not 3 way compatible.
I have several Caseta switches on my Wink hub, but the whole Lurton line of products sort of confuses me. I was thinking of buying their hub, and moving off of Wink, but still not sure. I also use Alexa and Homebridge to connect everything. Have you done a review on that Lutron switch you mentioned? Btw - your reviews are awesome. More people need to see you stuff.
Not sure if I missed this in the video, but if you turn on the switch in HomeKit, it shows as ON. What if you turn off the light with one of the other “normal” switches. Does HomeKit update to show the light is actually off? Even though you didn’t use the Wemo switch to turn it off?
Smart switches and smart bulbs generally don't play well together. I always choose one or the other (smart switches when there is a switch and smart bulbs when there is no wall switch). However, if you do have Hue bulbs and a wall switch, I'd take a look at the Lutron Aurora. It works with Hue bulbs and allows you to still use the wall switch.
Thanks as always for the very informative video Shane. I have used the similar Meross switch as well with great success. Have a definite use case to convert one of ours to a smart fan using the Wemo stage so look forward to your review. Will wait for Theead though before dropping $50 😊
Good video, but I haven’t had good luck with Wemo. I got burned on their smart plugs. Wemo app wouldn’t recognize the plugs, couldn’t update firmware, login problems, etc. Wemo sent some replacement plugs, but dealing with their tech support was a pain. Hoping for some Eve 3 way switches eventually.
Thanks for sharing Nick. And sorry to hear about your frustrations. I haven't used any of the Wemo plugs. Setup for me, as mentioned, worked very easily for both of the switches I installed. Hopefully they've made some improvements in either the hardware or software since you used them. I believe the current Eve switches connect via bluetooth. I love Eve products, but I wouldn't want a bluetooth light switch. Maybe they'll release some thread enabled switches in the future... that would be cool.
You can do this same thing with Lutron Caseta switches, only having to replace one switch in a 3 way setup. Checkout their Advanced Installation Guide online. I’ve done this with a Caseta Smart switch paired with a toggle switch as part of a 3 way setup. You do have to slightly modify the other switch in the setup, but it can be done. Not sure about a 4 way setup though.
Interesting, I didn't realize that. I'm guessing this only works with certain Caseta switches, just the ON/OFF switches or the Pro dimmers? Looks like it's not too hard to do even though you do have to modify the other switch. I bet the 4 way could get confusing if it's even possible. Thanks for sharing!

Speaking of flawless, it’s been 5 months and not a single issue, not one! When people ask me about smart switches I tell them to stay away from the WiFi ones.
Sorry to hear about your frustrations, but I'm glad you got everything working well now. As I mentioned in the video, that's one reason why I wouldn't want to cover my whole house with wifi switches... if you ever have to remove and re-add them to homekit for some reason... that would be nightmare. Definitely benefits to having a bridge in some cases. And you definitely can't go wrong with Lutron Caseta. Thanks for sharing!
Same experience with me. I installed 20+ Wemos a year ago. They kept falling off wi-fi or needed resetting, tripped GFCI circuit breakers at random times. Gave up after 6 months of hassle, replaced them all with Lutron Caseta. Not one problem ever since. They just work. Anybody need a bunch of like-new Wemos, cheap?
The only one that I'm aware of would be the Lutron Casetta and Pico Remote dimmers. It requires replacing multiple switches on the circuit but has that dimming capability.
I used Lutron Caseta Pro 1000W Dimmer White (PD-10NXD-WH) switch for a 3-way application I had in my house on a ceiling fan. I used a Lutron Claro 3-way paddle switch for the other side of the three-way light switch. I used the Lutron Caseta Fan Switch (PD-FSQN-WH) for the fan part. The fan was on a single switch and didn't need a 3-way solution, just the light.
The Wemo switch looks very attractive for a four-way light switch that I have, but for two things. It being a WiFi solution and not Thread capable AND all of my other switches are Lutron Caseta switches. I just don't understand why Lutron can't come up with a solution like this. I know you can use one Lutron Caseta switch with two Pico remote; but I refuse to use the Pico remotes. I want a WIRED solution. If the LAN goes down or I have issues with the Lutron hub, then the Pico remotes will not work. I want to be able to manually control the switches from the wall if necessary regardless of the status of the hub or LAN status. I'm just weird that way. I want Lutron to come out with a solution like Wemo has done for a 4-way switch. The way they do the wiring on their 3-way switch makes it very difficult to have multiple wired manual switches with a four-way in the middle. I have been told that there is a way to get around this but Lutron does not support it, but I have yet to find a wiring diagram showing how this can be accomplished. Ugh!!!! Anyway, thanks for another great review. If Wemo comes out with a Thread version of this switch, I will jump on it.
The only way to open curtains that I've tried is with the Switchbot curtain. But it doesn't natively support HomeKit at this time. I integrated it into homekit via homebridge.
Gotta love products like this that that make it easier. I can't wait for the thread version.

What about a HomeKit 3 way switch with a dimming feature?
The only one that I'm aware of would be the Lutron Casetta and Pico Remote dimmers. It requires replacing multiple switches on the circuit but has that dimming capability.
Meross offers one, but I have never tested it: www.meross.com/mTerminal/Detail/42/Smart%20Wi-Fi%203-Way%20Dimmable%20Switch%20Kit
Hey Frederick, thanks for watching!
Well. Thanks for making me spend more money...
😂 😂 the addiction is real.
😂
Please adjust the trim screws so they are all the same, from an electrician
Wont go wemo. Trying to get out of their environment. So inconsistent and issues left and right. Wishing you luck with them.
Shane where’s the background music. Bring it back. The BG silence makes this video feel so long lol
haha thanks for the feedback Mark! Tried something a little different. I think I'll be bringing it back soon!
I believe went sells a hub
Thanks for staying real. Don’t go super over produced and have an end result that’s just a total turn off. #listentoyourwife #homekitOG
Thanks Bradley!! 🙏
Except wemo barely works
The only way to open curtains that I've tried is with the Switchbot curtain. But it doesn't natively support HomeKit at this time. I integrated it into homekit via homebridge.
$7 on temu
This is nothing for me. Only my lights are integrated in HomeKit, not my sensors and switches. I don’t see the point… 😏
You killing me, three way switches never work when you turn off one of the other switches and you didn’t show that here
