We put 1 spoon tomato plant at the top end of the in ground garden for the children to enjoy! The Bonny Best tomato is pretty popular here in E TN it seems. We grew a great variety of tomatoes last year and for slicers like; Thornburn's Terra-Cotta (fantastic for sandwiches!), Cherokee Purple, Carbon and Black Beauty. We liked for sauce tomatoes: Orange Strawberry, Giant Paste, Amish Paste, Roma and Jersey Devil. We had 152 tomato pants last year. I had collected so many seeds - like you mentioned, marketing. I decided to plant 4 of each type and see what we liked and must have year after year. This year is fresh eating only. 82 qts + 6 grocery bags still in the freezer. And also did the same with pickling cucumbers. 26 32oz jars of pickles; so, cucumbers for fermenting only this year. 2024 concentration growing green beans, lima beans, Red Ripper Peas for chili; carrots and butternut squash. Fresh eating growing cabbages of all kinds.
That’s awesome you did way better than I did putting food in the freezer! I’m hoping this year to grow more Roma type canning tomatoes to can and make sauces and salsas for over winter months. Cherokee purple is my favorite tomato. Thanks for the comment 👍
