I have an Eagle Badge Rogers Holiday Constellation outfit in Mardi Gras. What was cool is when I brought home and detailed it, noticed a third rering interior center. Come to find out it’s an Astoria Cocktail outfit all by itself. I have gotten a Rogers cocktail pedal since.
I had a Rogers 'Astoria' two-piece cocktail set in blue onyx finish, dating from mid-1960's. Beavertail lugs and Cleveland, Ohio interior tags. Consisted of a Powertone 5 x 14" snare drum with the special 'cocktail' mount and arm, 16 x 16" floor tom/'bass' drum, cocktail bass drum pedal, and cymbal holder which mounted to the floor tom/bass. It was 'new old stock' found at a local music store..the owner bought it direct from Rogers at the Cleveland sales office then it sat in his store for years. I bought it some years ago it sat in my studio then I traded it for a new four piece jazz sized drum set (plus some in-store credit vouchers); as the 'cocktail' configuration just wasn't practical as a 'player' kit for me. Interesting piece of drum history though.
I once made a DIY cocktail kit of sorts from a bit of my regular kit - snare, hi hats, and I put my kick pedal under my floor tom. Had to really be light footed with the kick, because a hard strike would make the floor tom jump around.
+stevemaxwelldrums *YAMAHA® Corporation built a major innovation in compact drumkits with the birch/mahogany-built Club Jordan.* The CD15CJ vertical drum, ø15"x24", doubled as kick and floor (also packing an internal fan snappy for the top head), and mounted the SD08CJ rack tom (ø8" x 5") and TT10CJ snare (ø10" x 5") on rod brackets.
That purple diamond pearl finish is beautiful. Bring that finish back Steve.Wow.!!!
Thank you for taking the time to teach us about these classic drum kits! I love how they put a pick pedal under the huge tom.
