Christie Wan There are many reasons why the left hand can get tired or tense in such a busy etude as this one! It often starts with tension between the thumb and first finger. I hope I understand your question... most people I find play this etude (and many etudes) with a weak sound. It's important to play with a full sound so that you get practice stopping the strings when they are really vibrating! Therefore, I like to use plenty of bow for this. I advise you to change the bow as often as you need, according to the tempo. So when you are practicing it slowly, you may want to change every 8 notes or so.
Quick question: It looks like you are holding down a b flat (on the A string) or f natural (on the E string). Are you? I’ve not seen Kreutzer 9 written that way, but I can see great benefit to doing that. Could you perhaps comment on what you are doing in terms of holding down your first finger and why? Yes, you can use whatever fingerings you want for this. It's a very versatile etude! For my own work, I favor using lots of 4th finger so that I can strengthen it.

Hi I'm thinking of learning this on electric guitar,I take it,that it's a slur study,I.e you only bow the 'f' and the left hand fingers hammer on and off for the rest of the phrase Till the low Bb and start of next phrase?
Hi Ross, I don't love "tricks" either, and I certainly don't like relying on them. So this is really for those extreme moments when, for whatever reason, things just want to get shaky. If you're shaking or unstable on a regular basis, at regular dynamics, then yes, something is off. But think of this as something to get you out of a jam when you have to play extremely quietly and you've had an extra cup of coffee! I'm known for having a steady hand, and sometimes when people ask me how I do it, I let them know that in fact there are many times when things want to start jumping... but then this gets me out of it and back on track! Suffice it to say that every player shakes once in a while. I sit three feet away from the best, and I've seen it all!
That's a subject I don't know much about! I would certainly start by listening to as much of the kind of music as you want to play, and simply to start going for those sounds. If you can find a teacher where you are, that's even better.

May I ask what kind of violin you play? The make, the year, where you purchased it?

I think I have different fingeringa in my book, I guess you put down 2 as the first finger, in my edition it's always the 1.

calaw I use an Audio Technica lapel microphone so that it can pick up my playing and talking. I believe it's an AT831. Very clean sound!
