i too have traveled the same course with trial and error. I too have eliminated the oil part and also can't get more that one really clean print. I am on my 5th day of doing this and I am determined. One thing I can reccommend is keep your hands off the plate. the oil from your hands will put ink on the plate. ( greasy) . the most frustrating part is seeing all the your tube videos and how easy they make it look. Going to try again tonite. Good luck to you!

So glad you shared these experiments! Such an interesting process. I think you were really getting somewhere with the bigger expanses of ink like in the house print. Such lovely textures!
So glad you enjoyed it!! I think so too - the tiny details were a lot more problematic 😂 and the houses ended up pretty cool, especially with how the lines in the aluminum foil interacted with the print! I’ll revisit this technique eventually :)

Love your perseverance! I like trying new techniques, and I could really relate -- I tried and tried, but never could manage transferring a photo using a gel plate. I learned a lot about gel plate printing in the process, though.
Thank you!! It’s a toughy, but I hope to revisit this technique and eventually “master” it (or at least manage to get consistent prints out of it 😂). Hopefully you can revisit gel plate printing in the future and maybe be surprised!!
Thanks for 'debunking' the video, I had planned to try it, so I am glad I did my research and found this video. Did you try water-based ink with the sharpie? Also, would vinegar instead of cola work better? Lot's to try, thnaks again for takign the time :)
